What does one do, when they are vegan, live in Oregon, are attending a wedding in Cedar Lake, MI and responsible for planning and organizing the wedding rehearsal dinner? Call Max & Emily’s!
Since the wedding affair was low key and informal, I decided to do sub sandwiches, salad, chips and dessert for 50 people for the rehearsal dinner. After calling a few franchise sandwich shops in Mt. Pleasant and discovering they have no vegan options and will make no accommodations for vegan foods, I decided to find a locally owned sandwich/deli shop.
My google search landed on Max & Emily’s website. A quick phone call to them discovered they have no vegan options either. However, the difference between them and a franchise business is they were ready to solve my problems. Once I provided them with links to producers of vegan meats and cheeses, they were totally open to providing the catering for my group of 50 people.
They did an OUTSTANDING job! Everything they provided was vegan....the breads, the wraps, the condiments, the salad dressings and the delicious cookies. It received glowing compliments from all my vegan guests as well as non-vegan guests.
I am truly indebted to them for their personal customer service as well as the delicious food that made my event so successful. However, I’m especially grateful to Elmo for his willingness, attention and desire to accommodate my wishes. They are the example of what every business owner and proprietor should strive for, which is listening and fulfilling the needs of your customers!
Thanks so much Max & Emily’s! You and your establishment totally rock!
I love this place. Food is exceptional, service is always a 10/10, and the home town atmosphere is perfect. Always recommend when people ask me where to eat in town!
The food is so wonderful and whenever I get take out they offer me water while I wait. The baked goods are also to die for! A cookie (or 2) is always a must when stopping by.
The only thing better than the customer service at Max & Emily's is their food! Every meal and every visit is perfect! Thank you for continuing the amazing downtown Mt. Pleasant tradition!

Great variety of hand crafted sandwiches that have a great flavor profile and come still with my beloved pickle!!(and a bag of chips). Can't wait to make my way through their very extensive list of sandwiches!! Their baked goods looked divine, will try those next time!
Great food and very friendly staff! The quality ingredients are well worth the price.
Great food, but don't go the there hungry, and unsure of what you feel like eating :) The menu is huge and may take 15-20 minutes to decide what to have. Well worth the stop!
I've come here for the coffee for a long time and always thought it was good. Today, I decided to try the food. I got something along the lines of the black bean fiesta wrap, after a really good recommendation from the girl I talked to behind the counter. It was so good!! The service was very quick, and the lady who recommended the sandwich went out of her way to ask me how I liked it. Anyone who hasn't eaten here definitely should. Very friendly service, and very delicious food and drinks.
By far the best lunch spot in Mt. Pleasant! Everything is good here and there are plenty of options for everyone!

Great food! Very courteous employees. They are always busy and the food is always delicious!!!
They truly care about their guests like they are friends and family. This is the place to go if you are looking to find that one place you always go to, because they will remember you, and always share their love! Incredible food and even better staff!
Excellent food! Many choices but worth the detour off highway. Wish parking was better but being downtown - just expect a walk. But worth it.
Loved loved LOVED the food, sandwiches are great as well as the soup and cheesecake. Staff is all wonderful and friendly, will be going back soon.
Best Sandwiches In Town. This is the perfect place to eat downtown Mt. Pleasant, especially in the summer. The atmosphere is great and they have a cool concert series. I had the Reuben today, but I also really like the Salsa Ranch Chicken Wrap. However, everything on the menu is good.
One of the best places in town. Over 100 sandwich choices gives everyone a little flavor to choose from!
Max & Emily's - Great Place to Treat Your College Student!. Max and Emily's is a great place to treat your student while visiting or when you're at home! You can just call them up and phone-in a gift card for your child and have them pick it up at the Cafe. It makes for a good picker-upper! The staff has always been so friendly in person and also very friendly and respectful on the phone. The food is healthy and delicious and there's always room for one of their scrumptious desserts! Thanks for helping Mom's treat their child away from home! God bless you all!
Great selection of sandwiches. The menu is not for anyone with ADD -- it offers a mind-boggling array of sandwich options. But they're good; good baked goods as well. It can get a little hectic inside during the lunch hour on weekdays.
Visiting from out of town, we came to Max & Emily’s for lunch on Saturday. The place has a small town vibe. It was fairly busy, but we were able to dine in. It’s a sandwich and soup shop - with a LOT to pick from. You order at the register and then they call your name when the order is ready. (Similar to a Panera feel that way.) I got a #99 grilled cheese - the cream cheese really set it apart. I dipped it in a cup of the roasted red pepper and Gouda soup. Superb! We also got a #63 fiery turkinator. It was classically good - along with the chicken and dumpling soup - everything you’d expect from a good soup and sandwich combo. It was a little pricey but we left full and glad with the choice in a small town we’re unfamiliar with. Grabbed a chocolate chip cookie on my way out. $1.25, huge, good - do it.
Taking simple sandwiches and elevating them with beautifully crafted breads, sauces, and meats. They care about the quality of the food they are putting out. Service can be a little slow when they are busy but well worth the wait because they take the time to ensure you are happy with your order and help you with any questions. Staff has always been friendly. The atmosphere is super relaxed and it’s a great place to enjoy with a friend for some chit chat.
Sat in back area. A bit loud in front, which is fitting for a College town. We enjoyed our sandwiches, my fav is The Tim.
Good sandwiches, great variety. They have gluten free bread!!
Sandwiches are made fresh everyday! Great food and atmosphere! 10/10 would recommend again!
Favorite spot to stop for a sandwich 🥪 they do an amazing job I also love the salads 🥗 so big and fresh this is definitely a must stop in mt pleasant.
I can't recommend their "#1 The Reuben". I eat Reubens every time I want to try out a new menu and here it was listed as the #1 original Max & Emily's sandwich so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was not impressed.
I might try another one some time as I just moved here for a year but it certainly won't be #1.
I actually came here because I saw "bakery" without looking at the photos... My mistake obvs as all they have to offer are sugar cookies and croissants. Both looked the same color to me!
I was really hoping for a nice treat, sadly disappointed.
Great vibe with friendly service. Food selection choice are many, so if you can't find a sandwich here, your not hungry. Was served fast and fresh. I was very happy with my selection as was my daughter. Now the down side: a little on the higher end for a sandwich. We order 2 sandwich (turkey&grilled cheese) which came with pickle spear and bag chips and added 2 fountain drinks -$28.00.
Awesome food. Love this place. Fresh ingredients, made right while you wait.
Magnificent food, absolutely fabulous service, minimal wait time and make sure to try the chocolate croissants.
