You Need To Know? If you like BBQ, if you like smoked meats, then you absolutely MUST try Butcher Bob's! We arrived around 6:00 on a friday & we were able to seat ourselves. We ordered the Brunswick Stew, Burnt ends, a brisket cheesesteak, & 1/2 rack of ribs. The burnt ends also known as BBQ Candy was mouth watering & melted in your mouth. The rack of ribs were juicy & great with just the rub, but when you add one of the 7 sauces it takes it to an entirely new level. The Stew was a winter warmer. It's hearty & filling & can serve as a meal. I would also like to add that the service from Amanda was as sweet as the BBQ sauce. She was so kind & helpful, her hospitality added to the southern BBQ vibe. Mt Top people need to become regulars! Now You Know! -TBH
If you like BBQ you have to try this place!
We had a large group and were able to try many items. Everything was seasoned nicely and smoked just right. The burnt ends were superb! Ribs, brisket, ribs, and pulled pork were all delicious! The Mac &cheese was creamy and flavorful. The brisket chili was tasty.
Service was great!
Give it a try!
We’ll be back!
Really nice local BBQ house, great food, had the brisket (half eaten when pictured!), would recommend and go back.
From meeting the owner to Samantha our waitress, what a fabulous place! The barbecue we had the combination plater, And Bob himself brought out some burnt tips. Amazing they are to die for. Wow! What experience the chicken had smoked flavor through and through the ribs, Fabulous smoked on site. Everything was fresh and hot service was fabulous. The beers were ice cold and frosted mugs. No complaints here for the price. Really worth every nickel for surviving through the covid pandemic. His little place is a classic and if you're looking for the realest barbecue that you can find in Pennsylvania come to this place, definitely worth it! And we drove all the way from Wisconsin to enjoy this!
I have tasted BBQ from all over the USA and nothing beats the food put out by this establishment. Brisket perfectly flavored and tender, as were the burnt ends. Brisket baked beans were to die for, as was the meatloaf sandwich. Took a half chicken home for dinner--again, perfect. On top of that, was greeted and served by the friendliest and most attentive waitress. Five stars across the board. 75 miles from where I live, and I expect to become a regular.
Came in around 7:20 & the doors were still opened. They close at 8 & had no issues catering to my friend and I. Did not feel rushed. Very friendly & took our order immediately. Food was out extremely fast & tasted fantastic.
Pennsylvania, not a state that i would normally associate with barbeque at all. Let alone, REAL TEXAS STYLE BBQ! Whaaat?! I think I'm still in a bit of shock.
What an excellent meal. Homemade mac and cheese, pork bbq beans, sweet glazed beef ribs (dry rub available) and BIG Texas Twinkies 😋 (that'd be cream cheese filled, bacon wrapped, jalapeno popping goodness to the un-initiated out there). Had a local brewed raspberry beer from
Susquehanna brewery. Never had it's like before and it was very refreshing.
The barbeque is cooked fresh on the grill early each morning. There's a patio area on an upper deck for seating if the mood takes you, or seating inside as well. Very comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful view. Eat in or carry out. I stayed and enjoyed the heck out of my meal. Took some to go, and couldn't resist buying my own shirt with the ButcherBob slogan. 👍😂
A couple slots alongside the main road to pull up out front in a 53' Truck.
So cool. Glad i stopped. There's hope for Pennsylvania yet. 😜 Good luck to Bob and crew in spreading that dog gone good BBQ!
I'm a local and I eat here a lot. Best BBQ around! This place rocks. Bob and his staff are super friendly, and the price-quality-portion ratios are where I'd expect for a main meat meal. Try the pulled pork dinner with some of their home made BBQ sauce, or grab a brisket cheese steak and be filled for the rest of your work day! BBQ baked beans often have a handsome chunk of meat in em and the mac and cheese is always hot and gooey, just the way it should be. Not into chancing the meat sweats with a sampler platter? Try a delicious double smash burger! I literally haven't had anything I didnt enjoy.
The dining room is pretty small and cozy, but the service is fast. They also do a really tasty breakfast, eggs your way or grab an omelette or a short-stack.
I hope this business sticks around and grows!
Never had proper barbecue before, and with an early Friday off work, decided to stop in. From the stars I rate, it's a good assumption that it was worth it for me.
Ordered a smoked sausage and sampler platter to obtain maximum variety, along with brisket baked beans and smoked mac and cheese on the side. Getting the sides out of the way, I'm not the biggest fan of generic baked beans so wanted to see if my opinion changed, not really. That's on me though, not a fan. The smoked mac and cheese, first bite, generic, slightly overcooked. Second bite, hang on, something there. Let's try a third. It's like it takes a bit of time for the flavor to come through, and once it does, it's addicting. And while I say it seemed overcooked, using my head I wonder how one would possibly smoke mac and cheese and it WON'T lose a bit of texture. Tradeoff for the flavor, and absolutely worth it.
The sampler came with brisket, pulled pork, a quartered chicken, and ribs. And toss in that smoked sausage. Getting the negative out of the way first, wish it were a smoked chicken thigh instead of a breast. It's REALLY dry, but if you eat in-house, they provide plenty of different sauces (Carolina Gold was a favorite of mine. I expected carolina reaper because I'm a sadist at heart, but was pleasantly surprised at how sweet and flavorful it was when I realized it probably referred to the state), and that helps things along.
For the positives, standout, brisket. At first I felt it was a bit dry, but then that fat just melted in the mouth and made it slide down, absolute delight. The beef ribs were a bit tough, but absolutely delicious. Pulled pork, like the chicken, a bit dry, but the PERFECT way to use the variety of sauces. The smoked sausage is a bit tough and chewy, but pretty alright, though I doubt I'd get it again. Also, I was expecting a full sausage link, but they slice it up before serving here. A personal thing, I just enjoy eating a full link of sausage, otherwise why even bother.
So personal nitpicks aside, I can't possibly rate this any lower than a full five from the flavor alone, let alone the friendly staff. If I get the chance to come here again, definitely going for the full brisket dinner with mac and cheese, and trying a different side to go with it.
A hidden GEM in NEPA. Definitely the best BBQ I've had in 20 years. The true definition of a mom and pop shop. Pulled Pork, Po Boys, "Cant Beat my meatloaf", smoked chickens, racks of ribs, stuffed cherry peppers, housemade sauces and more. Smoked to perfection, seasoned with love, and served with passion.
I not even sure where to start with this review!
The food was definitely excellent, I tried a few item, the sampler, the fried chicken, the Pastroni, fries was perfect, the smoked Mac and Cheese was incredible, the coleslaw perfect.
The service was 10 out of 10. Friendly staff. Had a chance to meet Bob, trainee Jamie, Sierra the best trainer ever and Bryan the Jamaican with no accent lol
Definitely will come back for more an a this will be one of my favorite spot to go.
Now I need to try their breakfast !
Great selection of BBQ items. Burnt Ends really tender. Meatloaf sandwich done just right. Nice, helpful staff and some fun beer choices.
Food was VERY good!!! Fries are nice and crispy and the pulled chicken had so much flavor! Would definitely recommend!!
The food here was fantastic. Absolutely delicious from appetizers to entree. We started off with the burnt ends and bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers while sipping some Susquehanna Brewing Co. beers. I had the Can't beat my Meatloaf sandwich with the smoked fries and smoked mac 'n cheese. The Meatloaf was spectacular with three different smoked meats and perfectly seasoned. The smoked fries with their seasoning could hold up on their own or with ketchup or ranch, and the smoked Mac was great as well. Service was quick and friendly and all of our food cane out hot. Also sampled their house made beef jerky and immediately bought a bag when paying the bill. This is a must visit for bbq lovers and I say that after frequenting some of the best in VA where we're from. The owner said their food is made with a lot of love and it's clear to taste!
Passing through PA and did a quick google search for “best bbq near me” - found Butcher Bobs and it did not disappoint! Service was excellent, our server enthusiastically answered all of our questions and seemed genuinely happy to share her personal favorites.
While all of the food was delicious (smoked chicken bites, burnt ends, mac and cheese, cornbread, and the variety of homemade sauces) we thought the baked beans were over the top good. I have always loved baked beans and make a point of sampling them wherever we go, and I can say that these are at the top of my list. We got the chance to speak with the owner who shared that his secret ingredient is a whole lotta love, which couldn’t have been more true!
The only disappointment is that we live in Mass and can’t come back to Butcher Bobs every weekend to sample the rest of their extensive menu!!! Would highly recommend to anyone else who is passing through the area and finding themselves googling “best bbq near me”.
The food was great! I got the sampler and my favorite was the ribs. The rub was great, the ribs were juicy and not too fatty, very tender. I also loved the different BBQ sauce flavors. The smoked Mac and cheese was very good. It's a casual atmosphere, but a worth it stop from our trek down 81 post engagement photoshoot!
The food I ate today was very scrumptious. my waiter was very polite to me and my family. Also the bathroom was very clean!!
