There are a lot of breakfast places nearby so it took me a while to finally make it a touch West on 45 to get over to Garden Berry; I should not have waited so long. It did not disappoint. The food is really good, your traditional American breakfast spot. It is very fairly priced, especially considering some of the competition. One of the coolest things about the place is that normally with pre-fix breakfast items you get your choice of toast or bagel, maybe pancakes. Here, you can have anything you want (no up-charge). Pancakes, waffles, French toast, crepes, toast, whatever you want! I don’t think I have ever seen that at another breakfast place before.
It took me a long time to get here the first time but it won’t take me long to come back.
It’s a totally different vibe than the other axes in Vernon Hills. Check it out!
Been going since 2019, and yes in the midst of Covid! Had heard great things and it hasn’t disappointed. This is a diner, not a fancy restaurant. Other reviews said it was dingy. What do expect from a popular, busy, hole in the wall kind of place? It’s not dirty at all, just well-used and loved by locals and the staff and owners. I get the impression the staff like working there. They can be themselves- dress as they want and engage in banter with customers or each other - i love it. If you are looking for fancy, look elsewhere yes. But prices are reasonable, food is delicious, and atmosphere is super casual yet fun and inviting. Speaking of the owners, they converted this small building and made it homey and lovely in their own way adjusting to Covid like champs with outdoor seating and takeout, which continues. There is an obvious Hispanic flare which I like. Hot / spicy foods are available. But all the standard diner foods too - eggs, sausages, omelette, skillet, lunch sandwiches, pancakes, French toast. When I go I usually get the standard (for me) scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, fruit cup, etc. When I have guests visiting from out of town this is my go-to place for a breakfast or lunch at least once while they are in town. (this place is closed for dinner FYI). I avoid times when I know the local church gets out because post-Mass crowds congregate here on Sunday mornings. Service has always been excellent. If you want a special order, like diet-restricted foods, no problem. Like any restaurant they might have the occasional blip in attending to you but if you ask you are promptly attended to. Locally owned, locally employed, a solid diner with quality food and service. Recommend!
Nice spot and currently has outdoor seating. A little deceiving when you drive down the street but happy we gave this a try. Friendly and prompt service. The food was great. Chilaquiles with steak and South the border omelette. The coffee is smooth, which I like. The churro waffle really has that churro flavor, very delicious and comes with ice cream. Looking forward to other items.
Ordered two meals as carry-out today: the veggie wrap, add chicken with chipotle mayo and a steak skillet with a garden berry crepe! The food was ready for pick-up in ten minutes, it tasted super flavorful and the portions are large! I highly recommend ordering from here and/or dining in!
I’ve had a lot of omelette and potato combos in my life, and this one is definitely in my top 3 I’ve ever had. Service is super quick (I came during a weekday) and everyone is so nice! I live about 1.5 hours away and just stopped here on a whim during work travel, but I fully see myself driving the 1.5 hours from home just to come eat here. It does look a little outdated, but food fully makes up for it. SOOOOO good!!!
Great place. Will be my go to breakfast joint for the forseeable future. They could do a little better in the cleanliness department (had to ask for a new glass of water and the takeout containers had dust in them) but the food and service was great. I got the churro waffles and that is a deep fried masterpiece of a waffle. The skillets are OK (egg harbor does them better) and the omletes are decent but huge. For the price, I think the food and portions are a decent deal. All in all it is a great place and blows the other breaskfast joints in Mundelein out of the water.
Had brunch here and it was terrific. I had the waffles with peaches and my mom had the strawberry crepes. We also had a side order of corned beef hash. It was all delicious and really reasonable. Great service and everything came out warm and timely. Worth a visit for sure.
The food was amazing, legit one of the best and very comparable to top breakfast places. Definitely coming back, it wasn’t as busy you just need to go at a good time, the place has a old aesthetic but felt cozy and the food is what really matters. The cinnamon roll French toast was bombbbb and the eggs Benedict and skillets were definitely worth it. It’s around 10-15 dollars a person. Service was good and no issues!
Went to the cafe with my girlfriends to enjoy breakfast at 8 am. It was super busy and full. Service was slightly slow due to the number of people in the cafe. Ordered veggie omelette with fruits and pancakes. Fruits were really cold as if taken out from the refrigerator and omelette was also okay not that good.
Great diner with fantastic food, and hard working staff. If your order is taking a while please be patient, it’s well worth the wait.
My favorite thing to do on my day off is to visit new restaurants and see how good some of them are in the area. On this September 11 the restaurant was Garden Berry Cafe. Needless to say it was one of the best restaurants i have discovered to this day.
The gyro skillet was bursting with flavor, the avocado burger was juicy and the salad was a generous amount of food and flavor packing a punch. The fries that came with it had an amazing crispiness that few restaurants can compete with. My complements to the Chef
The service was great. Our waitress, Yvonne stopped by frequently and checked if we needed anything else and at times refilled our drinks before we even asked.
Even Hector, the manager stopped by and asked how everything was. It's rare these days where even the manager just stops by without a patron complaining about the quality of food. Not to mention he gave a fantastic recommendation of dessert for someone with a sweet tooth... The churro waffle with ice cream... It was the perfect crispy waffle with an ice cream scoop... Just perfectly made.
Overall Garden Berry Cafe blew my expectations out of the water with their amazing cooking, generous portions, and phenomenal service and staff. These guys dont skimp out on the ingredients either. I'm looking forward to stopping by again sometime very soon. Please keep up with this quality of food and service.
Delicious food, we had incredible hulk and Popeyes Benedict breakfast 😋 delicious.
Coffee was nicely strong. Affordable.
Our waitress was very nice as well. Will be back again
I love the Garden Berry Cafe, and was upset when one closed, and was so happy to find there’s one right here as well! The omelets were incredible, with lots of buttery flavor. The pancakes were little clouds bursting with flavor. 9/10, Go Garden Berry Cafe!
PS: my photo was the cover of the other Garden Berry Cafe for over a year until it closed!
You definitely need to stop here for breakfast! A great selection and great food. If you leave this place and you're still hungry, it's your fault!
