This is a local gem. It is family owned and has been in business for many years. The staff is friendly and welcoming and does a great job managing their tables and the waiting list. Every entree comes with slaw or a green salad, a cup of their fish stew, and a side ( baked potato, rice, vegetable, French fries or sweetest potato fries). You also get an amazing bread basket with hush puppies, bread slices and cinnamon rolls. We ordered their two signatures dishes; Baked Flounder and Lobster Pie. The flounder was baked to perfection with a light crust. It was a good size piece of fish. The lobster pie USA rich buttery cheesy baked dish. It had chunks of tender lobster and crab and a nice topping of crunchy bread crust. The flavor reminded us of she crab soup. We also had a beer and wine. Our entire bill was under 60$. Great place for a couple, family or group of friends.
Visited with the family this week. Quite a little joint. We arrived at 6:20 or so and the wait was an hour. The experience was really neat and Dave our waiter was attentive. Sweet rolls and hush puppies were a nice touch and everyone thought the hush puppies were the best.Salad was nothing special but we weren't expecting a lot either. Fish stew was interesting as well as the She Crab Soup we had.Food was cooked properly and as good as any fried product that I have had. Flounder, Scallops, Oysters and Shrimp were good. Daughter, not a seafood fan had a steak and it was cooked properly and flavorful she said. Compared to the calabash options that are plentiful in the area I'd quickly choose this over those anytime. Cost for the table was close to what one would expect with most entrees in the $20.00 range.Would go back and suggest those so inclined give this at least one shot.
Great food! There are special surprises along the way that you would not expect that they give you as a complementary treat. I won't spoil it. It was greater than expected! Prices are reasonable too. Portions are good for the price. Great fast service too.
Always fantastic! Excellent seafood-large portions. The basket of cinnamon rolls, bread, and hush puppies make it just perfect. We've been coming here for decades while on vacation, and this year twice in same week! Takes reservations!!!
Food and service were excellent but dining room was hot at 5:30 and manager didn't care.

Nice romantic getaway. My wife and I, in MB to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, went to CH in part due to what Yelp has indicated (as well as many people I have talked to). This was a MUST on our list of places to go. The atmosphere to start, soft lit, very romantic, relaxing, charming, but not in-your-face sort, you know?! Just right.
The hushpuppies served to you in a basket with two slices of bread and two cinnamon rolls, all of which made on-site (super cool, extra points there!), the hushpuppies were tremendous. Goes great with the butter served too. Yum!
Next up, our entrees.... My wife got the Lobster Pie and the clam chowder. A+ Marks to both. Nicely portioned, well seasoned, and the chowder was very very good! Quite honestly, I trued the fish stew, and the chowder was way better. My opinion of course, but the fish stew did not "blow my skirt up" and tasted kinda like diluted chili, with some tasty morsels of fish thrown in. Seasoning of the stew.... a little more of it may have made this a home run versus a line drive down the middle. But seasoning, to me, is subjective and should never affect the overall rating unless NOTHING was seasoned, which was not the case here.
I decided to try and keep it a little healthy and opt for the seafood combination platter...broiled as opposed to deep fried. Yes folks, they have healthy options to their fine cuisine... just ask.
The Oysters, these I got fried, came out well. The breaded was far superior than the "usual" fare you find as some by-the-highway seafood joint that would deep fry the napkins if they thought they could make a buck. But not here.... CH had some of the best breaded Oysters I have ever seen! They tasted as good as they looked.
Also on the platter was grilled scallops. They were ok.... again a seasoning factor.... but that was my deal and not to be held against the chef.
Final item on the platter was the fish... Cod I think. Pretty darn tasty, cooked to perfection and the presentation was simple and classy.
Lastly, the folks at CH surprised us with a slice of key lime pie for dessert. So creamy and smooth, we swore we were eat velvet cloaked in silk. YOU GOTTA TRY THE KEY LIME PIE!
So in summary, the place has very good, food well proportioned, presented simple and classy, the atmosphere was soft lit and romantic, The prices, very good too.... the final bill came up less than I had anticipated, and the waiter, SCOTT, was awesome, kept our drinks filled and checked up on us regularly as well as surprised us with the pie.
Thank you CH, it was a nice end to the day spending it in your restaurant. We will make it a point to come back.

One of the Best!. We come hear every year and are never disappointed! They start with the basket of bread. It contains some of the best hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls ever! You have to try these!
I orded the 8 oz steak and it was excellent! It was marinated and it tasted great! I do have to say, it was a little dry, but the flavor profile was there! I can't wait to go back and get it again. The $2 coupon on the website made it that much better too!
Our server was Andrew and he was great. Very friendly and nice. He even offered to throw in drinks for our two kids. Talk about above and beyond. I only ordered water for my drink and he made sure it was never empty. Really good. Thank you Andrew!
One of the best parts of the house though was view! We always sit next to the window and watching the turtles and other wildlife is great! We didn't see any aligators, but it was all good still. Being from Florida, I am not dying to see those.
Chesapeake House for sure gets 2 thumbs up! Can't wait to go back. The only negative is that I really wanted a t-shirt but thought they were a little over priced for a t-shirt. But hey, if some one else will pay that much, more power to them!
edit: We liked it so much we went back again this week. This time we had John for our waiter. Where do they find these guys? He was great too! Made sure we always had what we needed and went above and beyond. I wish we were staying another day so we could go back again.
I do have to say this time I got the steak again and had it done Medium rare because medium had pretty much no pink the first time. Once again, it was more medium well then medium rare. Their cook need to learn the timing of doing steak. But it was still amazing!

Got the seafood platter (the one where you can select 3) got it broiled Cajun style. Very good; more sea scallops than I've ever been served. Slaw was real good and so was the she crab soup. Decor was a little old school but didn't really bother me especially since the food was good and affordable.

Got the combo platter with flounder, shrimp and stuffed crab - absolutely delectable. Thickest and most delicious piece of flounder we've ever had! The fresh bread basket they bring beforehand with sweet cinnamon rolls and hush puppies is enough to fill you up, so beware of that! :) Beautiful scenery beside a pond. Can't wait to come again.

One of my alltime favs in myrtle beach... From the free fish stew, to the three choices of bread (hush puppies, homebaked bread and gooey cinnimen rolls) always fresh, although I avoid all seafood on monday (watermen dont work sunday) but they have added an early bird menu, before 6... Also getting the kids searching out the windows for wikdlife and gators in the lake is fun...
What a nice place to go for some good food. The lobster was a little rough, but it was still very good. Also, the ribeye was fantastic. The fish soup and hushpuppies are a nice touch. It is a little pricey for some of the nicer items on the menu, however i would say it is worth it. I recommend getting a reservation to avaoid a long wait, however you will still have a small wait. That is how good this place is. Around 830 it died down and you probably wouldnt have a very hard time getting a table.
Classic seafood restaurant. Hush puppies & rolls were delicious & the entrees (lobster pie & seafood platter) were very good. Much better than grazing at one of the local buffets.

Super impressed! AMAZING crab (though a bit pricey) cool environment and really friendly waitstaff. The restaurant looks right over a swamp that has gators in it! Also, there are plenty of appetizers before the meal (like hushpuppies). Loved it.
Incredible. The best food I've had in months. I got shrimp, scallops, and flounder: All three were nothing short of excellent. The cinnamon roll at the beginning was great. I'm not a stew guy, but my friend loved the stew and ate mine, too. The food quantity was large and definitely justified the price. The service was also excellent; I usually leave a 15-20% tip, but left a 35% tip this time. Awesome! Not only is the food at this place excellent, but the staff was so helpful and accomodating with my mother, who is in a wheelchair. If you are in Myrtle beach, forego the neon-swordfish and giant crab restaurants for this place. You will NOT be sorry!
All-in-all, this is a great place to get dinner. Some entrees are a little above 20.00, but totally worth it ! I highly suggest eating here.
Get there early before all the lake view seats are gone! We got there just before 5 pm, and all the lake view tables were full. My wife had the baked fish with crab stuffing, and I had the seafood platter. Both come with salad, a tiny cup of soup and choice of potato, rice, or veggie. You also get sweet hush puppies and cinnamon rolls. They were just OK. The food was excellent and plentiful. We took home enough for another meal. If you get there before 6PM, they offer "specials" and senior meals. You won't leave hungry whatever you choose. The "she crab" soup was also very good. Our server was very attentive.

Delicious food. We eat from the senior menu and its more than enough food. The seafood was very fresh. Chesapeake House has always been our list since I was a little girl. We take the cinnamon rolls back for breakfast.
Our first choice wasn’t opened so we decided to give this place a try. Upon arrival it was super busy and we were told 60-90 minute wait. However we only had to wait about 40 minutes. It was worth the wait. We started with the cinnamon rolls and hush puppies. I’m not a hush puppy fan and these were awesome. We had the gator bites (they literally taste like chicken nuggets) and she crab soup. The soup was great reminded me of clam chowder. I had the catch of the day “wreck fish” it was good. It’s a thicker meatier fish. The best texture example I could give is like lobster. Shannon was our server and she was attentive even been as busy as she was. Her head was on a swivel and constantly checking on all her tables.
The food was great. I am happy to come here instead of open buffets. The kids menu is pretty big too. We loved the fish and the shrimp platters. There is an early bird special if you arrive before 6 pm.
Dined here with family for dinner. My Uncle and Aunt enjoy this place and introduced it to us. They start out by bringing the table a huge basket of cinnamon rolls and hush puppies. They are not kidding by stating the hush puppies are the best.. I could not stop eating them.. mmmm mmm good!! The fish stew is very flavorful and is quite delicious. I had the Fantail shrimp, and chose to have them grilled, they were very good. There tarter sauce is so good too. My meal was portioned well with coleslaw and a baked potato. Kiddo enjoyed the fried shrimp and the multiple cinnamon rolls.. hubby had the Chesapeake baked fish, he really enjoyed his meal. Our server was beyond friendly and attentive. The place is large, with a older vibe of at home dining. Our food arrived quick and hot.
We were on the lookout for a gator siting, although none appeared while we were there. Did get to see a bunch of turtles hanging out though.
I had shrimp and grits and my child ate chicken parmesan. Both were good. Service was fast and all the seasoned wait staff were polite, efficient and accurate. Clean but did feel dated. If retro is your thing you're good to go.
We came here 2 yrs ago with our daughter and her husband. They recommended it. We thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. Hushpuppies are serviced with cinnamon rolls before dinner. Also their fish stew is also served with the meal. We had steak and lobster and crab cakes this time and it was absolutely delicious. Our server was on top of her game big time. Couldn't ask for better service.

My family and I actually liked our first visit here so much during the week we stayed in Myrtle, that we had to return a second time. We went to many restaurants on our trip this past week, and quite a few were let downs, but in the mix were a few fantastic places as well! Both times we had an amazing server (2 separate but awesome servers); quick with drinks, very accommodating and super friendly! This place brings out cinnamon rolls stacked on top of some hush puppies as kind of the "house bread". We were all amazed by that, and both of those things were tasty, too. Between myself and 6 other people going twice, we ordered a large variety of items off of the menu, and everything was fantastic and fresh. Seafood, steaks, salads, sides, etc. They bring a sample of their fish stew as well with your side salads. While none of us cared a ton for it, it was an interesting thing to bring with the salad and we all gave it a try the second time, too. To someone into super fishy things or seafood in general, maybe you'd like it.
Half of the seating is near a giant window wrapping the building that let's you look out on a giant pond sort of area that is filled with turtles, and even an alligator who we were lucky enough to see just within a few few from us.
Really nice atmosphere, great staff and great food. Both of our trips here were fantastic, so I definitely recommend!

Great food and service. We have tried several different dishes over the years and everything is great. The cinnamon rolls and hush puppies are a true treat! The gator in the water out back is a fun addition.
We heard about the early bird menu here and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we asked for a window view so we can watch the wildlife. It added to the atmosphere of a seaside seafood restaurant experience.

You can buy the hush puppy mix at the front cash to take home and make. The famous fish stew was small and tasty for an extra $1. We ordered the seafood platter and it was excellent. Very good! Wonderful setting and ambiance. We were lucky to get a table right on the water without any reservation made ahead of time. They obviously know what they are doing, having been in business for over 50 years. The seafood stew is good but lacked any sizeable pieces of fish. It was entirely small shreds of fish. Vegetable sides were overcooked (lima beans and asparagus) But the seafood is the main event here and it is fresh and perfectly prepared. Scallops were succulent and juicy, and the seafood combination was superb, including some huge roasted oysters!
they bring out fresh wam cinnamon rolls and hush puppies when you first sit down…that was the highlight of the entire dinner, so yummy. the food was good but could be better. the red soup (forgot what it was called) that came with everyone’s meal gave us all really bad heartburn, although it tasted pretty good. i enjoyed the deviled crab.
