This was my first time at Josephine’s and I’m glad I made it before they closed their doors! The service was impeccable, the food was superb, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the restaurant itself was quite spacious. I was so sad to learn that Josephine was closing their doors this month after a decade in business, so I’m glad I made it in for the first time! I ordered their happy hour double cheeseburger with a glass of wine and shared the duck fat hash browns and cornbread. Delectable! For such a nice restaurant and prime location, the price tag was more than reasonable and absolutely matched the service received. If you have a chance to visit this 12 South staple before they close their doors for good, please go!

A great experience. Host and server, and other staff as well, were all very nice. Cornbread was quite rich and not as sweet as I'd expected it to be - which turned out to be a nice surprise, the complex flavor had us speculating! Was it brown butter in the recipe? We devoured it 😂 I had duck breast with truffle vinaigrette and my date had the ricotta gnocchi. Every bite was heaven! And while we were already full, we got the peach cobbler anyway. No regrets, it was delicious. Can't wait to go back here.

Oh-kay! I'll explain more detail below .... But we had.... Cornbread 🌟🌟🌟 Heirloom tomatoes🌟🌟🌟 Crabcakes.🌟🌟🌟🌟 Peach cobbler 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Let me go into more detail. 1. Cornbread is a buckwheat base Cornbread. It's good (not amazing). It's dense and oily. I'd say vegetable oil but I am hoping olive oil. Our Cornbread was a bit overcooked so it was more dry. I was super disappointed in the butter that was served. We are butter snobs. So we were so disappointed that it was just regular ol butter. I was hoping for some farm to table butter, honey butter, truffle butter, chive and fig butter... something! So that's why 3 stars. 2. The Heirloom tomatoes were also good buy not amazing. It needed more salt for sure and some freah cracked pepper wouldn't hurt. And it was totally crying out for some acid. This dish desperately needed a drizzle of balsamic dressing. In fact it's asking for it. Just my 2 cents. 3. Crab cakes. Were served over parsnip puree, grilled asparagus and a blood orange brown butter hollandaise sauce. I can tell you I've had a blood orange browned butter sauce before that was not good at all. This was the star of the show. I'm still feeling like lemon made its way in there instead of blood orange, but what do I know. The brown butter hollandaise was the best tasting thing we had. I do wish the crab cakes were cooked way crisper. Like the pan wasn't hot enough and needed more oil. The asparagus was also cooked well. Still crisp which is nice. You forget there is parsnip puree cause the hollandaise is so good. 4. Peach cobbler Don't be confused. You will expect a cobbler but technically it's a pie. The topping is a pie crust not a crumble like you'd expect. The vanilla mascarpone ice cream was really good. The Peach filling was also amazing. However. The crust was not cooked all the way so that was a bummer. For sure everyone was nice. Our server was great.

One of my favorites. I have been lucky enough to enjoy this place for years. Not every visit, but most of the times I have been there, I get one of the specials that features beef heart or beef tongue or some other yummy bits from the cow turned into a fantastic dish. Excellent food. Great service. This restaurant and Urban Grub are my two favorites in 12 South and have been my favorites there for years.

Went here to celebrate my wife and her recent accomplishments. The food was amazing. Just delicious, and you can tell it was prepared with care. Crab Cakes, Strap steak, and a great appetizer with scrappel wrapped in lettuce. Our server Shannon made us feel right at home. I want to go again!!

I love this restaurant! I've been probably 7 or 8 times, and they never miss! Josephine has some of the best food in Nashville. They have a small menu that changes every season. Every menu item is always excellent, and the service is great. The only reason for the 4 stars on atmosphere is that they completely black out the windows facing 12th Ave. This makes it feel weirdly formal in a way I don't believe they intend. Without the weird blacked out windows, the atmosphere is 5/5. Would recommend to absolutely anyone.

Just visiting from out of state but I am so disappointed that they will be closing due to forces outside of their control. The pork chop and duck breast entrees were easily the best cooked, tastiest versions of those dishes we've ever had. And that comes from my partner who usually doesn't enjoy pork/duck. The ambiance and service are top notch, and you can tell this place is a Nashville staple right away. Hoping to catch them in a future endeavor

Was wavering between 4-5. Overall enjoyed the experience and the vibe. Parking is free in the garage behind the happy park paid lot in a separate space behind the boutique stores. I tried the special cocktail since I made it in time for the happy hour: a pear old fashioned. I think I would’ve preferred a sour plum or tart peach to the old fashioned but it was interesting enough as a drink, albeit on the syrupy sweet side. We started with the cornbread, crab dip, and duck fat hash browns. All 3 appetizers were very heavy and rich. Cornbread was made beautifully, a texture that I haven’t particularly tasted elsewhere. There was a caramelization that I enjoyed. The crab dip was delicious with rolls that tasted like kings Hawaiian if I’m to be honest. The duck fat hash browns was paired with a sauce that reminded me of tartar sauce, with the truffle a bit hard to fathom. The beet salad came with crispy kale and goat cheese seasoned with sage and pistachios. It was alright, I suppose. I enjoyed the roasted Brussels sprouts. We then had the mains: pork shank, stone bass, hanger steak, beef cheeks. I really liked the interesting textures that came along with the meats, especially the beef cheeks with corn nuts and crispy kale bits. If one thing I could pick is that the meats were under seasoned. They weren’t as marinated or flavorful, and I would’ve enjoyed a bit more garlic salt into the hanger steak for example, and it would’ve elevated something already cooked wonderfully. The stone bass could’ve used something a bit more acidic than the gremolata added on top, and was a bit bland. I’m not sure the beans were the best accompaniment for the pork shank, as I think something a bit more bright or interesting like a curry sauce would’ve given it some pizzazz. For the dessert I had the pumpkin cream cheese ice cream sundae. I loved the spread that came as I could customize the super sweet caramel sauce along with the crunchy bits and pieces. I loved this ice cream immensely. Overall I really enjoyed the meal and I am excited to see what the chef will bring in his next menus.

The cornbread is the best! I go almost exclusively for the corn bread but the scallops, bolognese, and crab cakes are great as well!

My wife and I had dinner here the other night and it was fantastic! The atmosphere is great, the service was perfect and the food was delicious. Our drinks consisted of Old Fashions and wines. The old fashions weren’t my favorite but the wine was great. We started with the Nashville hot scrapple lettuce wraps which were fantastic. Perfect little crunch and bite of heat. We then shared the Brussel sprouts, hanger steak entree, and the pork shank. We ended the night with the apple pie for two which was a bargain for the portion. WE CLEANED OUR PLATES. It was delicious.

This place was excellent. It was much quieter than I anticipated. The ambiance matches the cuisine. The salmon was perfect. The duck was phenomenal. The ravioli was succulent & elegant. (The best dish in my opinion) The most enticing part about this restaurant is that it was off the beaten path from downtown. If you're looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of the nightlife, this is a great stop. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Consistently excellent. Whenever I visit Nashville it always includes a meal at Josephine. Well-crafted cocktails, superior wine list, seasonal menu offered with creativity and attention to detail. Dinner is my favorite, but Brunch is a hit too. See you soon, Josephine!

Amazing experience , great vibe and delicious food. We went there for our anniversary and I had requested for a bottle of wine to the table which was honored. Made my wife really happy . We got the Brussels sprouts , cheese platter and the apple clobber with salted caramel ice cream. All of it was super delicious! Brussels sprouts is a must if you are going to this restaurant and the apple clobber dessert comes with a delicious unique salted caramel icecream. There is free parking for the restaurant customers as well Obviously this restaurant is expensive but it is not a surprise as its clearly mentioned everywhere. On your way out , you end up with a complimentary homemade cookie as well. Overall me and my wife were so happy with everything

Wonderful time on a Saturday evening for husband and I. Not pretentious or super fancy atmosphere, you can dress very nice if you wanted to, but also just dress in business casual/cocktail attire if desired, or probably dress up jeans if you really wanted to and still not feel out of place. Duck fat hashbrowns with truffle dip appetizer were to die for as were the brussels sprouts side… Don’t let the peanut vinaigrette throw you off, it works so well! Pork belly entrée was rich, flavorful, and deliciously meaty, and lobster risotto was very bright and lemony. Will definitely be back!

The food here is unreal. They say they make everything in house and you can taste it. We had the burger and the blt, both outstanding. Sounds weird to say, but the veggies on the burger were so fresh you could taste them. Don't recall thinking that on any other burger ive eaten recently. Just a great spot.

This is a great place for a nicer dinner in Nashville. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere is great for a intimate or low key dinner. It runs on the pricy side for some dishes but everything we got, we thoroughly enjoyed.
