This was a good time. Was in town for just a couple days and got reservations only because some unlucky diner couldn't make it and canceled . The place was packed. For good reason. Hostess seated us at what I would consider the best table in the house. In the corner by the windows with a great view of St Charles right outside. Didn't order apps but our server brought my guest and I each a single meatball and sauce dusted with just the right amount of parmesan . It was straight 🔥. I had ordered a ceasar and it arrived soon after. The dressing was tasty which carried the salad just a click or 2 over "ok" The beef showed up right on time. We had the ribeye and a filet. With the house Mac n cheese and garlic mashed potatoes . The sides were good not great but we weren't at Mr John's Side and salad house. We were at his steak place.. And they did the damn thing. Steaks were cooked perfectly and were not one bite short of OUTSTANDING . Seasoned so that it perfectly complimented the flavor of the beef. Great steaks. Definitley recommend especially if you are staying on one of the floors above the restaurant because it was time to lay down afterwards. Thanks for a great meal.

Among the best food and service experiences ever. The food was delicious and served on hot dishes, which meant it remained hot throughout the meal. We stopped eating to save room for dessert. An excellent crème brulee with fresh fruit was the perfect finale.
Oh, and a great wine list as well.

Loved the atmosphere, service, and most of the food. The server was fantastic. The crab cake was amazing. The wine was delicious. The filet and lobster were delicious. The mac and cheese was not worth it. I ordered the filet medium rare, but it came out close to rare; however, that’s not much of a complaint for me because I appreciate the rarer side. My wife ordered the pompano, and it was not good. The vegetables on it were very good, but the fish itself had a bad taste. My wife only ate a bit of it. I tried a couple of bites, but it was so fishy tasting (in the bad way); even the parts without the bloodline were fishy. That said, the pompano was the only complaint of the night. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. We will definitely be back for more steak and crab cakes and wine!

Charlie Brown was amazing! The gulf fish of the day was so delicious. The margarita was also amazing. 10/10 recommend. I took myself out on a date and was a little nervous walking back to my car, Charlie made sure I got in my car safely. Outstanding service!

Hidden gem of New Orleans. Best steak (all prime beef) no foo foo stuff just good food. Great service in an intimate atmosphere. Not cheap though. Great bartender!

When I say the customer service here is simply IMPECCABLE !!!!! Will was great. The food w was great! My favorite was the bacon wrapped shrimp!! Moscoto..Moscato... yummy. Ribeye & filet mignon cut like warm butter & tasted glorious!! FYI I hope the little meatball we sample will be on the menu. Definitely will be back!!!

After all my trips to New Orleans, I can't believe this is my first time at Mr John's. Everything was excellent. The service was great. The food was delicious. And the atmosphere was old world New Orleans.

Fantastic steakhouse located right off St. Charles. I went with my fiancé for my birthday and we were treated very nicely from the moment we walked in. Our servers Jimmie and server assistant Amie were outstanding. The food was on a whole other level!! The steak was prepared perfectly and was so tender. The apps were a very good portion and so flavorful. A little on the pricier side but so worth it. We will definitely be back again :)

The crab cake appetizer was bigger than I expected. I suggest the WHO DAT shrimp, as well.
Outstanding filet topped with jumbo lump crabmeat and sides of cream spinach and Mr. John’s famous Freddy Mac and Cheese. Their cheesecake topped with raspberries is awesome, if you have room. Mr. John’s Steakhouse has a great red and white wine selection by the glass and bottle.

Exceptional service! They serve you all at the same time and your water glass is never empty! The French onion soup is the best I've ever had and the steak is excellent! They start you with a meatball that was so good I could have asked for seconds. If you need to use the restroom you have to go through the kitchen which is a very cool tour but awkward coming back. Lots of dessert options, I only had the Creme Brulee which was top of my list! Perfect romantic atmosphere.

Celebrated my wife's 50th birthday and we could not have been more pleased with Mr. John's. The food, service, ambience, and atmosphere was amazing. What a jewel in the Crescent City. Worth the trip, no doubt.

I have eaten at my share of fine dining establishments in New Orleans and Mr. John's ranks right at the top of the list. Make sure you make a reservation in advance as they are extremely busy. They restaurant treats you and your party like you are their only customers. You have multiple servers, host and waiters that continue to tend to your every needs throughout your dining experience. The food was amazing, the appetizers which were prepared perfectly and came out within minutes of us ordering them. Our entrées Surf and Turf and the Catch of the Day were two of the best entrées we have ever had. When you visit New Orleans make sure you have this place on top of your dining list.

Managed to get rid of the kids long enough to treat me and the missus to a fine meal. Didn't have a reservation, but they were more than happy to seat us at the bar, which was fine because we were WAY under dressed. The bartender was very friendly, and makes a pretty fantastic old fashioned.
We ordered the WHO DAT shrimp, petite filets, French onion soup, turtle soup, sautéed mushrooms and au gratin potatoes.
Bottom line - I've had better food, but I can't remember when. The shrimp were amazing, the filet was so tender it didn't need a knife, the French onion soup was rich and cheesy, the mushrooms were some of the best I've ever had, and I'd take the au gratin potatoes here over grandma's.
The worst part of my experience here was having to waddle back up to the hotel room afterwards for a nice lie down.
10/10 food, staff and ambiance.

Typical fine dinning experience. Classy white cloth tables. Sophisticated decor. Outstanding service and high ends foods. Priced accordingly.

Terrible terrible service, rude manager. DO NOT GO TO MR JOHN'S. Went there for a birthday. Had reservations for a window table for 2 months. The restaurant confirmed these reservations in advance. We get to the restaurant and were not seated by the window, and two window tables were open and available. We informed the manager about this. The manager would not accommodate us. In fact, the manager was a real jerk. He was rude to us and suggested that we go to the burger restaurant down the street. Needless to say, we left. I would never go to Mr. John's and I recommend that anyone who considers going to Mr. John's go elsewhere. There are too many good restaurants in the city with good service to go to this awful awful place.

Food was good as most have said. The resturant was loud... We sat at a table for 2 and it was difficult to have a conversation. Greatest disappointment was the waiter after I turned down dessert. I know it did not compare to what they were offering, but I said that I was going to get beignets and after dinner drinks on Bourbon since I was in town visiting. His response was "gross" so just left me feeling less than positive about my total experience

Sets the Standard for Steakhouse. Robert Bruce and his team deliver perfectly cooked cuts of prime beef to packed tables. Appetizers, salads, sides are all standouts and merit there own accolades. Waiters are on point, motivated and keep it fun. This is the place to go for that special evening.
Localyokel1976
An absolutely great steak destination. I can't say enough about Mr. John's. Some of the finest steaks in the city. A great wedge salad. The mushrooms side is unbeatable. Top notch service. Just an awesome place for a fillet. I can't wait to get back there.
Chip
Outstanding. Went tonight for my daughters 20th birthday. When i made the reservation I requested a table by the window and let them know that it was a birthday dinner. When we arrived we were seated promptly by the window and i was very impressed that the hostess and the waiters made it a point to wish her happy birthday. Waiters were very friendly and attentive without getting in the way. The steaks were outstanding and so were the sides. Theres nothing i would have changed and cant wait to go back.

March 18. If you are atMr. John's you are a short stroll or trolley ride to Emeril's Delmomico. I'd head there. The prices at Mr. Johns steeper than Emeril's for a group of pretentious staff. The staff at Emeril's warm and helpful. The Steak at Mr Johns was fine, the salad had brown lettuce and the drink menu was blaaaa compared. No contest. Emeril wins again!
JJ
Great meal. I've been only once but definitely plan to go back. My group of 4 had first class meals all around. My steak was cooked perfectly. One of the better steaks I've had in the city. And contrary to some comments in other reviews, we found the staff and service to be excellent. Very attentive, very engaging, fun and yet still professional. And the owner seemed to make a point to speak with most tables - that always adds a special touch. I really like this place.

Filthy and dirty kitchen. Ask them to move any large equipment and look at the scum under them, and see for yourself. Never eat here.

Always good. Best steak Restaurant in the city. Ask for Tommy, always takes good care of me.

Pretty good steak; great location. A bit too much butter on my steak, but a good fillet. I loved our table by the window on the Avenue. Great atmosphere!

RACIST. The most unpleasant experience we have had in our lives. We were rudely interrupted by one of the bartenders who was not our server but refused to let us move 10 inches down to allow a female guest who was standing to join us at the bar and who adamantly told our party, which included a local ER Doctor, Dentist and Film Producer, "You will not move down, you will sit where I tell you to sit!" Berating us as if we were children and with no complaints of crowding or requests to interfere from the the customers around us. We then asked to speak with the Manager who's demeanor and approach was just as disappointing and extremely unwarranted. His defensiveness from the beginning and lack of respect for us as paying customers was shocking. He never indicated any concern for the situation nor did he offer an apology for his bartenders actions and referred to us as "you people." We are educated professionals who have dined and entertained all over this city at the finest restaurants. I could NEVER imagine this happening at Ruth's Chris, Morton's, Dickie Brennan's or Crescent City Steakhouse which we patronize often. Horribly disappointed and will NEVER recommend ANYONE to dine here!

We ate here on Dec 15. It was great. The food was delicious, one of the best steaks I've had. The service here is phenomenal. The atmosphere is an old school steakhouse, tile floors, etc, but that's what makes it charming. We really loved it!
Sara
I would recommend Mr.John's to anyone expecting excellent food with excellent service. The servers went above and beyond. The owner came to say Hi while we dined. The steak and lobster were cooked to perfection. The meatballs melted in mouth. Private dining is the way to go. Cozy atmosphere. Would love to return ASAP.
Sara
Absolutely horrible service!!! Aaron and owner sitting at bar were rude and made the birthday girl so upset we had to leave. Will not reccomend to anyone.
Laura
Rudest people ever - went to celebrate my birthday. My father who has heart issues, ended up going home sick. This caused us to be 10 min late for a 9pm reservation. I was greeted with "you're late." Our waiter was worse. He was pissed we had 9 people instead of 10, he said we could not wait for our friend parking. I was so upset my friends went to speak to the manager who was even worse and talked down to us b/c we brought our own wine (with a $25 corkage fee). Who has a corkage fee if you don't want guests to bring wine? They never apologized. I will NEVER go back and will tell everyone how awful and rude Mr. John's is. They missed out on a huge bill. We eat out all the time and I have never been treated so poorly.

Amazeballs. Best steak in NOLA!

Steaks Good/Service Not. The only thing good I can say is that the steaks were fantastic. They advertise valet but waited 10 minutes for someone to come out so I ended up parking on the street myself. Waiter (giddy?) told us that we needed to hurry and order b/c it was going to get crowded and the kitchen might get backed up. He forgot to bring a beverage refill but did apologize. Then he asked me 3 times if I wanted a 2nd glass of wine while I still had wine left in my glass. I felt like I was at a Bourbon St Bar. I ordered a filet and a salad to be brought together as that was my chosen side dish and he asked if he could bring it out with the other salads. I said no and he said the table might get crowded with the extra plate, which it wasn't. At the end of the meal one of us asked for a doggie bag for her steak and asked to add the leftover side of mushrooms and the waiter asked if we really wanted them since there wasn't much left. The tomato and buffalo mozzarella was not good since the cheese was dense and hard like kraft swiss cheese, maybe that is why it was sliced 1/4 " thin. Other side items were OK, garlic mashed, mac and cheese, nothing to rave about. And yes it is extremely loud and extremely difficult to hear. No handicap ramp on the curbs nor handicap facilities in the bathrooms. Not a great experience. Too bad since the steak was awesome.

Favorite steakhouse in the city. Have been multiple times and have had attentive service and great steaks

Delivers. You can count on this restaurant to deliver a great steak time and time again. The baked oysters, shrimp remoulade, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes are favorites.
Alicia Clark Mooney
AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL! We had one meal that was cold and then came back reheated but not edible. The waiter removed the meal from the bill, however, the owner knew of the issue and never came over to our table to apologize. Instead he was very confrontational. I would never recommend this place to anyone nor will I ever go back!

Quality, fun. I have been here more than once, the staff and food are great. Wine list is quality.
I am allergic to strawberries, had one on my dessert-no biggie. What used to be my favorite fruit, I can no longer eat, so I placed it away from me, corner area of table. A waitperson, not ours, noticed from I don't know where, and was over in a flash to ensure all was well. Great service, and my daughter loves steak. You are her #1, we'll be back.

Out on the town. Had dinner there tonight with friends. The food was excellent and a good value for the money. Great portion size and the wait staff were very attentive. I will say it was a little loud so if you are looking for a quiet dinner this may not be the place but I will definitely go back again. Don't forget to make reservations!

Atmosphere great. Service great. Shrimp bacon appetizers superb. Duck appetizer not good. Salads were lame. Steaks were great so was surf and turf! 9 out of ten stars on the steaks.

I heard great reviews about the steaks. Frankly it was an average steak. The butter is overwhelming. Service was great.

I likes..... Every once in a while I need a good steak and Mr Johns hits the spot. I have been here twice already and I want to go back but I have to give other places a chance. The first time I went there my lady and I got a porterhouse for two. Umm Yumm. It actually made me say yumm... Delicious. Straight to the point! The service was great! The guy was there every time my glass was short. Good work Mr. Johns. So far the best steak I have had in da NO....

Most amazing steak in the city... Wonderful service, and wonderful atmosphere... Often see celebs eating there... If you are a meat eater... Get over there as soon as you can. Worth every penny!

Wont Ever Go Back. We arrived 20 minutes late by taxi. We called and said we would be late because the taxi didn't pick us up on time. Arrived 6:50. Ordered a bottle of wine and wanted to relax and take our time. At 7:30 our waiter said we needed to place our entire order...appetizer, salad and entree because they had to "turn the table" at 8:30. Called manager to table and said he was the owner/manager and defended the argument they had to "turn the table" at 8:30 and we had to order. We ordered, ate and left. Will never go back; First time we had experienced this in all of the years we have eaten at fine dining restuarants across the country. Cant believe this happened in all places...New Orleans.

The best. Best steak house in the city
Winford
Hidden gem in NOLA!. This is my new favorite steak house! Had dinner here last night and feasted on the NY strip which you could cut with a butter knife. Before all that, I enjoyed flash fried green tomatoes with lump crab meat on top! My second appetizer was SHE crab bisque! If you love eating the roe out of blue crabs, then you will love this bisque. It was like eating a fat blue crab in liquid form. My side dish with the steak was shoe string Crystal hot sauce fried onion rings. After all that, I didn't have room for dessert! Service was excellent, if not the best I have seen in any restaurant. There were 8 people in my party and I counted at least 3 servers waiting on us. This place was full for a Friday night, so I would recommend a reservation before showing up. The dining area is small to medium size, it looks bigger from the outside. Parking is valet and validated by the steak house or you can park on the street if you can find a spot.

Best in NOLA. In my very humble opinion, this is the best steakhouse in the city. I've been there quite a few times and here's a few highlights: 1) You can't go wrong starting off with the crab cake (all crab meat, very few bread crumbs). 2) I can't pull myself away from their ribeye - it's so flavorful and tender my mouth is watering writing this review. 3) for dessert, their tiramisu truly melts in your mouth; it's so light and fluffy it feels like you're eating a cloud. Go to Mr. John's and watch streetcars pass as you enjoy a great meal with family and friends.

Best steak in the city IMO. Porthouse is house of this world! Filet also great! Pasta is great too! Def. Worth the money. Call ahead...it's not a big place, reservations needed. Great service, great cooks! Steaks melt in your mouth! Crazy Johnnie has nothing on Mr. John!
TheBramhams
Complete garbage, we walked into an empty restaurant to be told they were completely booked for the evening, not to mention it took forever for the rude waiter to come tell us that lie. Go to Copland cheesecake bistro down the street rather than this pit.
Urbanspoon Gimp
Not good at all. Steaks are better and about 80% cheaper at Crazie Johnny's. Really inauthentic, almost chain like feel to Mr. John's. Worst part of St. Charles IMO.
Sunshine
Great!. I loved this place. Service was great, food was delicious and so was the wine. A little pricey but it was worth it.

An Excellent Dining Experience for my girlfriends's Birthday. Just had a wonderful dining experience at Mr. John's. Took my girlfriend for her birthday. The food and service were excellent! We started with a crabcake and BBQ shrimp - both were good and hot. Next came our steak - the New York Strip for myself and the Surf and Turf (Petite filet and lobster) for my girlfriend. Both were excellent! Had the mushrooms and potato au gratin as sides which were scrumpious. We shared the Tiramisu for dessert which was very light and went along wonderfully with our meal. Would highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for an excellent dining experience. It's on St. Charles Avenue- so it is pefect for locals or tourists. You will feel welcomed and taken care of.

Great Experience. I've eaten here three times, now. My problem with most restaurants is that they nail one or two courses, but fall short on some of the courses. Mr. John's nailed all the courses tonight, great from start to finish. The Caesar salad was good, the steak was great, and the Taramisu was also great. I figured out why I like the steak so much. The steak has a great crust which is actually crunchy even though I ordered medium rare, and it came medium rare. It was very hot at the start and hot when I ended. From now on, when I want steak in NOLA, it's either Mr. John's or La Boca.

Great steaks, great people watching. This is very "Galitoir"-ish. Except maybe less elitist, parking is easier, and the food is better. And less tourists.

Everybody there is a regular. Many are local politico's gossiping. It is FAR louder than a similar place in another city would be. Today I ate two tables from James Carville. Alot of people in suits, and lots in jeans. Mixed in with framed shots of locals and friends hang small photos of Pres. Bush Sr and of Pres. Clinton when they ate there.

The decor is elegant enough for fine dining, but not very expensive or creative. Nothing historic either. But bright and comfortable. the maitre d' did not know me, but he chatted away with me about the Saints for a good five minutes while I waited for a table.

Which brings me to a slight negative -- everything was SLOW for lunch. But that's because nobody besides me was in a hurry. People are there to TALK and LAUGH as much as to eat.

This is not to say that the food is not good. Some of the very finest steaks in the city -- from about $30-60. I had a lunch sirloin sandwich was was truly the best steak sandwich of my life, and well worth $14. The fries that came with it were actually enormous potato wedges -- probably two potatoes worth. The Kosher pickle was authentic and heavy.

Also amazing was the veal tortellini with asiago cream sauce and a touch of red peppers.

The Table garlic bread was different and pretty good. The fried green tomato appetizer was very good and huge for $12, but won't wow you if you are from NOLA. It had lump crab meat on top and was on a bed of baby greens. But the best part was the white romelade sauce, which was truly perfect.

Valet parking. It's on a elegant stretch of St Charles (what part of St Chas. isn't?), but just above the street is a rough ghetto, so park on St Chas at night. 1/10
