Hands down the best meal I've had in New Orleans. Had the Eggplant Napoleon...and I loved it. My wife had chicken tenders and she loved those. She said they were way better than the overcooked chicken sandwich she got at the wannabe fancy seafood place further down Magazine St. (I'll leave it nameless). The service was the best I've experienced...pretty much anywhere. I couldn't get a mint julip, but I ordered another mixed drink that wasn't on the menu, and you delivered...spot on. Thank you for an excellent dining experience for my family. You rock.
The all you can eat fried catfish is amazing! The local beers are great! Our server with the British accent was super helpful and gave us lots of recommendations for things to do while in town. By far the best meal we have had since being in town. The onion rings were also pretty amazing.
Great food! Fun restaurant! Had a great meal !
Would highly recommend
arriving in New Orleans it was our first stop. Very friendly staff and food and price were equally good. Best first impression.
Best red beans ever. The catfish & shrimp were delicious also. Super friendly staff. Will most defiantly be back.
Great out of the way place in the garden district. Only had drinks but they were great. Bartender was very friendly. The menu looks really good.
One of my favorite places to go in New Orleans. Away from the crowds of the quarter with great food and great prices.

We were visiting from St.Louis and we walked all up and down Magazine Street and for some reason ended up in here and it was a great choice. We had the crab claws.... The Magazine Street pasta..... And the fried shrimp... But the most amazing thing was their homemade dressings we had the Creole honey mustard I suggest this it was excellent! The service was excellent as well! Very reasonable for the excellent tastiness!
Excellent food. Quick service. Fresh fish and fried crab claws. Best red beans and rice in town! Yum!!
Red beans and rice were delicious. My wife had chicken fried steak, mac and cheese and fires and loved it. Fast, friendly service.
Nice little place on Magazine Street with good sandwiches and traditional New Orleans fare. I had the half po boy and my friend had the crawfish boil. Service was really friendly. Check out Joey K’s when in the Garden District.

just a great spot to stop by any day of the week. prefer lunch vs dinner. friendly service and feel good food makes this spot terrific. big salads and great rings. red beans on mondays and a very local and regulars crowd. a must for tourists looking to rest their feet after magazine shopping. menu is large and mostly very good and the beer is cold. cant complain roll on garth,
Once I hit the hotel, I began my trek toward the lowering garden district which is characterized by small shops and some of the hottest restaurants in NOLA. Among these eateries lie 4 triple Ds. My first stop was Joey K's, an American restaurant with a cajun/creole flare and daily specials ranging from oven roasted turkey to ham hocks with lima beans. I was surprised how busy it was given the time of day. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a friendly waitress who promptly served me a frozen goblet of Abita. Afterwards, I chatted with the waiter and, given I had just landed, decided to go authentic with the eggplant napoleon appetizer ( I was drawn to the crawfish cream sauce) and rice and beans with smoked sausage. He chuckled a bit and suggested I stick with a side of the rice and beans since the appetizer was "big". It was a good call. The eggplant was huge and ridiculously delicious. It was served piping hot and the sauce was the star. The rice and beans were bona fide belly friendly and I was quite happy I didn't opt for the full portion.
In the end, Joey K's has a fun vibe, good service and great food whether you are looking for comfort food or authentic southern cooking.
Recently renovated. Awesome white beans with pork chop and cornbread .Lively atmosphere and always busy.. Charming local Magazine Street eatery! Check it out guys! You won't be disappointed .
Large shrimp on the fried platter and the fried green tomatoes with grilled shrimp are TOP of the menu. A bit pricey for lunch, but I got over it when the food came. If you're checking out shops down Magazine street, Joey K's makes sense! Busy as a one armed paper hanger, still reasonably good service. This place has local charm ALL over it. Well worth the trip out of the Quarter!
I was told by a friend that this was a good restaurant. However, the experience that I had him on Thursday night was simply amazing. I ordered meatloaf & mashed potatoes. It was heavenly BUT The meatloaf came with
mac & cheese & green beans, and I entered the pearly gates with each taste of my mac & cheese. The green beans were little spicy. The final bit of heaven that night was my Apple cobbler Al la mode. Truly I recommend this restaurant with my highest commendations. It is now my favorite restaurant when I'm in the mood for home cooking.
Delicious food!. Our family ate here during a visit to New Orleans. The food was delicious and the staff were all very friendly. We would definitely eat here again.
A long walk.... We stopped and asked some locals walking where the best place to go eat was. They recommended Joey K's. So we walked about 1.5 miles to get there. The place is on the corner of 7th and Magazine. It's a cozy little place. The service could've been a little better. They were busy, had 3-4 waitresses and while they were very nice, it just took longer than usual to get refills or place an order and what not. However!! We got the Eggplant Napoleon as an app. It was awesome! Entrees were the Magazine pasta which was also very good! And the stuffed bell pepper; not as impressed. Finished with the blackberry cobbler that was decent enough, however my momma's is better. But we cleaned the dish so not so shabby. Would still return to eat here. Great place!
Best catfish I have ever eaten and the prices are incredibly reasonable. $13 dollars for all you can eat catfish that tastes this good should be a crime!
Pretty good food, not as fabulous as we expected.. Went on GUY FIERE'S recommendation...Our service was good, they were sweet to cook my brown rice pasta for the famous Magazine Pasta dish which was good, but very rich and quite greasy. My husband ate the fried green tomatoes and they were amazing! The best I have ever tasted! My kid split the Chicken Fried steak which came with green beans and homemade mac and cheese and they LOVED it! All in all a good experience but with all restaurants to choose from in NOLA, doubt we will return.
Excellent comfort food. This is a great comfort food restaurant. It's nothing fancy, it just specializes in doing simple home cooking extremely well. The Red beans and rice, poboys, fried pork chops, fried eggplant, etc. are all home made and incredible. The red beans and rice is the best in town. The beans are creamy and fatty, and the sausage is very flavorful.
The oyster poboy was piled high, and delicious.
The Eggplant Napoleon...you have to try it, believe me. This place is a favorite.
In short: good, not great. I've been a few times and have tried their red beans and their jambalaya, among other things. Both were perfectly passable, but nothing to write home about. I would guess that they cut the same corners as do most average restaurants, and, while there's no shame in that, it doesn't make for an exceptional experience. The service has always been warm and friendly, if not necessary quick. In a pinch, this is a good place to get the regional favorites, but not the best you could find, even in the immediate area.
Lunch review. Went to eat here since i heard they had great chicken fried steak. I guess it was good but hard to tell because they put green beans right next to the steak and the juice from the beans diluted and make the steak so very soggy. If you go make sure you tell them to put veggies on a different plate. Canned or powder brown gravy too. Waitress and service was great. Parking was tough at lunch time.
First time diner here. Ordered the red beans and rice app with the trout Tchoupitoulas as my entree. I enjoyed both immensely. Also sampled the corn and crab bisque and the shrimp magazine. If you aren't a fan of artichokes or wine, the shrimp magazine is not for you. Not an overly long wait, arrived around 1pm on a Saturday. Food came out hot and quickly. Servers are very friendly and attentive. Bus boy quick with removal of dirty items. Would recommend and plan to return when visiting.
Homestyle Food the way Mama (wished) done it!. I ate a stuffed bell pepper there years ago that I still talk about.
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes will bring a reminiscent tear to your eye.
Few places in New Orleans do it like this for so little.
Love it!. I've been there at least 5 time. Food is always great and fresh. Service is usually pretty good. The prices are great. Fun and funky atmosphere. My favorite app is the fried artichoke hearts and entree the crawfish napoleon and on Tuesday the braised lamb shank special is OMG good!
One of the better "under the radar" joints in town. Go on a Thursday night and get the chicken fried steak w/ Mac & cheese. You can thank me later.
We had dinner at Joey K's last night. It was delicious! My parents, who are notoriously hard to please, both found something they enjoyed. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. We will difinitely be back.
Awesome. The nepoleone eggplant was great. Actually everything was
Great Food. My wife and I both loved this place. We had the eggplant napoleon, shrimp magazine, and red beans and rice entree. Everything was amazing. Will definitely come back again when back in NOLA.
Good as described on TV.. I went to this place because I saw it on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. I found parking pretty quickly and was taken care of right away. When I went they had margaritas for 2.50 and they were really delicious. I ordered 1/2 a shrimp po-boy and had jambalaya with it. The shrimp in my sandwich was absolutely delicious and the jambalaya was good too. The waitstaff was nice and I was in and out in less than an hour overall it was a nice little place.
Will work with vegan needs.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant, good home cooking and the best onion rings in town!
Unique pasta. I ordered the Shrimp Magazine, which is large butterfly shrimp lightly floured and pan fried, then sautéed in olive oil, garlic, artichoke hearts, ham and green onions, served over angel hair pasta with a citrus like sauce. The ham added a different flavor to the shrimp that actually complimented it quite well.

Not exceptional, just good. Five of us went for lunch today; three of us had Red Beans & Rice, which wasn't as good as Momma used to make but pretty darn good none the less. Also the hamburger steak special and the eggplant parmesan. Everything was tasty & the service was quick and cheerful. The place was clean & the atmosphere was only slightly harmed by the same damn "art" signs on the wall as we saw last night at dinner on the other side of town. Prices were reasonable, no better.
Simple Neighborhood Nawlins Fare. That covers it!!!
Great Local Food. After a Garden District tour our guide recommended Joey K's. We got right in and the food was great!! The red beans and rice were amazing!!!! There were 5 of us and everyone was very happy with their food.....and that's an amazing feat!!!!
Service excellent-walked in, sat down, ordered and got our food. We went with friends 6/18/2011about 2pm and couldn't have been happier! We consumed, white sangria (yummo!), beer, red beans/rice, corn/shrimp chowder, oyster po-boys, fried shrimp po-boys and we enjoyed it all including the tasty salad dressing (on a rather pedestrian salad). The prices were right for what we ordered and we would all highly recommend it to others! (finish up with dessert at Sucre down a couple of doors)
Oh Yeah!. Service mediocre but the food was fabulous! Another Great One :)
Best neighborhood restaurant in NOLA. And that's saying a lot, cause we have a lot of good local joints.
Everything I've ever had at Joey K's has been great. Their red beans are awesome. They make good po'boys and have good specials. Cheap beers too.
Great Neighborhood Restaurant. I've eaten here many times over the years and have consistently found the food very good. It's not a place for fine dining ~ it's a place to go because you're hungry, don't want to cook, want something that is tasty at a reasonable price in decent surroundings. That said, I had the best fried chicken here last night that I have ever had anywhere in the city. It was delicious ~ plain and simple!
Daily specials are delicious!
Eat where the locals go!. Great service! This place has had it's ups and downs over the years, but it still is one of my favorites! Getting a seat can be tough, but when locals as well as tourists are waiting, that says something!
Nice place. Good shrimp po' boy and yummy cornbread. Very good margarita. Not particularly special looking but nice, good service.
I had the eggplant Parmesan and it was incredible! My mother very much enjoyed her pan fried trout topped with shrimp and crabmeat. Our entrees with two salads came to only about $30. We didn't have dessert but they looked good and were very reasonably priced at $5.
Just good food. This is a good New Orleans neighborhood restaurant that native New Orleanians remember. Good food, friendly service, and very reasonable prices. Daily specials, the best onion rings I have ever had, and cold beer in a frosted mug. Nothing fancy but clean and good.
Chicken cordon bleu special on Wednesday was delicious and very reasonably priced! Margarita was excellent!

I have to say that after swing this restaurant on the food network I was slightly dissapointed. The food on the plate while good ran together making it hard to eat. I did not get their signature dish but that was not what I wanted - too rich for a lunch. Overall good and I would revisit if I was on that block again.
Cheese fries were just okay. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes were good. Yams were amazing. Friendly staff. Seemed like a lot of regulars.
In New Orleans for college baseball.... Word of mouth from a friend brought us to this quaint place! Very good choice! Eggplant Napoleon was beyond good! My husband and I, both, loved it!!! The Trout and shrimp was good, too. Not quite topping my list as the Eggplant did! So glad we didn't miss this stop!
Thursday's turkey and stuffing was amazing! Yams were the best part- with flavors of vanilla and nutmeg. Definitely plan to return!
Overall good. This is an overall good restaurant! The only reason I heard of it because it was on the Travel Channel, but it is definitely worth a try. The Seafood platter and shrimp magazine are excellent.
Good neighborhood spot. I've been here several times. My old office was on the same block. One of the coolest spots on Magazine. It offers no-frill, good quality basic foods. I loved the blueberry cobbler. My favorite is the chicken-fried steak ($9 and comes with a huge portion of stubby, plump steak fries, and the best cut green beans with bacon I've ever had). My wife has had the Shrimp Magazine -- huge portion of grilled shrimp, artichoke hearts, bacon etc. over angel hair pasta ($14). But it looked and sounded better than it tasted.
One of the city's best collections of Simon pop art for sale. The other wall hangings are cool too.
Mediocre describes the food well. Good service and atmosphere.
Excellent corn & crab bisque (soup du jour) and soft shell crab! My wife enjoyed the grilled salmon salad so much, she dreamed about it that night! No... really!
Home Cooked Cuisine!. I ate there Saturday evening and had the Trout Tchoupitoulas topped with crabmeat and shrimp. It was PRETTY GOOD!
Hidden Treasure. I randomly stopped by here while tired and walking around finding the Ben Button house a few blocks away. To my luck, I stopped in on a Saturday when they had the roast beef debris. All roast beef sandwiches ever and in the future have/will aspire to be this good- juicy, tender, well seasoned. My mouth was in heaven. I will say, though, the jambalaya was a little dry. Finish off with the bread pudding, though, and you're good to go back to shopping and walking off the calories with a huge smile on your face.
So, I stopped into several restaurants searching through the menus looking for the perfect comfort foods and final found Joey K's Restaurant and Bar. It's small restaurant on the corner of Magazine and Seventh. It's one of those New Orleans traditional "hole in the walls" but that's one many beautiful things about this city. I ordered stewed chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes, it was one of the specials that day. It was not fine dining but that's exactly want I wanted. It was delicious. That perfect mix between of southern soul food and Louisiana seasoning, I grow up with. This is a great local find for a affordable price.
I’d say this one is more 4.5 stars because of the service (or lack of). The food is great and is good value for the portions you get. It could just be the seating location we were given by the staircase, but our server took a very long time to come get our order and we had to ask someone to find him to get our check. It was a very souring experience when we really enjoyed the food. If we come back to the area we might give it another try.

I was blessed to be told by a Local about this place. I was wandering around and this nice man gave me some places to go eat and this was top on his list!! I just wish I would have met him sooner it was my last full day. What a charming place and the food was OUTSTANDING!! I wish i was sitting in the front room I love all of the signs. we were taken into the 2nd dining area and it was just another place to eat. Definitely sit in the front room if you get the opportunity ;)
On our visit to Magazine St. we passed by Joey K’s and decided to split an appetizer (the seafood and sausage gumbo) which was delicious. We sat at the bar and I had their Pimm’s Cup which was great too. The servers were friendly and attentive and overall the place had a casual laid back atmosphere. We’re glad we passed by and would definitely stop in again the next time we’re in the area.
Really enjoyed our first meal in NOLA and this is where we ate. Great reputation and it didn't disappoint. The place was very busy on a Tuesday lunch with a mix of "us tourists", lol, and many locals.
Service was excellent. Friendly, confident, fast and great menu knowledge. Comes from great training, so kudos to management and/or ownership.
Fried Green Tomatoes were perfect. The Jambalaya was a tad dry but loaded with meat and was EXTREMELY tasty. My wife's salad with Blackened Shrimp was fabulous and PACKED with local Shrimp.
Very reasonably priced and, again, fabulous young lady server.
We WILL return the next rime we are in NOLA.
4.5 stars.
Recommended by our tour bus driver. Jambalaya and red beans were good (and good for gluten sensitive).
Sit outside for people-watching if you are able.
Like everything about this place, food we ordered were tasty (Creole jambalaya, Po boy (fried shrimp)), gumbo, fried catfish). Our server was really friendly. Recommended!!
The wait was short. The host was awesome. Once seated, our server was quick to get our drinks and food. I had the meatloaf, and all I can say is,"My mama has a run for her money." Love it
Red beans and rice, Crab and corn bisque and fried green tomatoes were so incredible. So taaty! Our waitress Lindsay was awesome and answered all our questions
All in all a great experience!
The food, service and atmosphere are great! The eggplant napoleon was phenomenal. Gotta have some bread pudding for desert. Will definitely be back!!
Food was good.
Lamb shank was tasty but too salty for my taste, didn't enjoy the canned green beans.
Fried green tomatoes was really delicious, but the portion was petite ( 4 slices of tomatos).
Pasta was not drain properly, full of water at the bottom. Not enough sauce to cover all the pasta. Just like the toasts, not enough butter to cover the toasts.
Delicious etouffe and soft shell crab!! The interior is very beautiful and colorful. Love it! A nice place to get all the basic NOLA staple food.
This small place in the big easy is dropping some fantastic family favorites and we had a chance to experience it for ourselves. The red beans and rice with andouille sausage is a dish I would come back here for, because I have never had better red beans and rice with the perfect flavor of the South until now. The lady enjoyed chicken fried steak, which was actually two pounded-out pork chops
battered and fried with mashed potatoes and gravy. A hometown heavenly hot spot
for sure
First time eating here and let me just say it was delicious. The portions are nice size, menu was very comforting and the cost was great. The menu offered daily specials, this was New Orleans comfort food at best. You must try the Eggplant appetizer, we were blown away! Staff and atmosphere were nice as well. Whether you are strolling on Magazine street or just looking on the internet for some place to eat, I suggest checking out Joey Ks.
DELICIOUS. We are from Washington State so I didn’t know what half the menu was but I go the special (Roast Beef Po Boy with red beans/rice and veggies) it was absolutely delicious. The best way I’ve ever eat roast beef in my life and I will not be able to replicate that. If we ever come back into this town it will be specifically for this restaurant. Our waitress was also super lovely and made me feel so comfortable about having a seafood allergy in a seafood capital.
Really enjoyed this spur of the moment.
We wanted to try and Po Boy but aren't fish eaters particularly. So we managed to get a chicken and a turkey Po boy. Delicious, the Fry's were good too.
What a cool local place! Away from all of the touristy areas but still friendly to those that roam. Andu waited on us and was excellent! Based on his recommendations, we had the Eggplant Napoleon for an app and I had the beef brisket. OMG!! The food was AMAZING!! Highly recommended!!
Their Red Beans and Rice are fantastic as was their Eggplant Napoleon (Deep Fried Eggplant, Crab Sauce and Shrimp....great service.
I got there at 11AM because I’m on a business trip and needed a place to hang out and do some work before my meeting. Ended up not being able to get any work done because I couldn’t stop eating!
The corn and crawfish fritters were out of this world and the hamburger stuck was perfectly cooked. Sides were green beans and mashed potatoes, which I cleaned off the plate.
Service was exceptional and attentive.
The staff was friendly and the food was great. It gets very loud and the restrooms are only single stalls for both men and women's restrooms, so lines form quickly.
The jambalaya was incredible. The fried green tomatoes were yummy, especially with the shrimp and sauce. The gumbo was good. The trout tchoupatuilas was tasty, as well. The kids' popcorn shrimp was good in taste and quantity. All entree sizes were very generous. The blackberry cobbler is the best I've had at a restaurant.
