This is just a small sandwich shop, but a fantastic product. I shared a table with people I didn't know which made it more fun. The muffaletta seen below was the best I've ever had. There's a lot of Sandwich options here. I tasted the gumbo which was very good.

It’s been there a long time and shows its age but still a damn good poboy. The oyster was amazing. Everyone was friendly and I will always go here for lunch when in New Orleans.

If you’re looking for a classic po boy, this is a great spot. Nothing fancy, just great food. The cashier will welcome you with a “baby” and “sweetheart”. The local game will be on the TV. The bread will be flakey and crisp on your overstuffed po boy. And the soda from the fountain will be refreshing. Perfect for a tasty, quick lunch. Enjoy!

For a good New Orleans Po-Boy in the French Quarter it is hard to beat Johnny’s Po-Boy. They offer great sandwiches but also very good breakfast and local plate lunches. The lines can get pretty long, but they move fairly quickly. I find for a reasonable meal in an old local favorite, give Johnny’s a try. I have never had a bad meal here.

An absolute JEM of a find! This is a small restaurant in the French Quarter, with cheerful staff, efficiently serving, fresh hot food! The portions are ENORMOUS, seriously, take a look around when you come in, as light eaters may want to share, until you taste how fantastic these Po-Boys are.
We had the alligator sausage and catfish Po-Boys all dressed with lettuce, tomato and dressing. The sausage was flavourful, tender and was not too fatty. The catfish was piping hot, battered with a light and crispy batter that did not take away from the tenderness or flavour of the fish. The bread had an ideally crunchy crust and chewy interior that held the whole sandwich together perfectly.
This is a must go to place, take cash and prepare to enjoy!

A true gem of the French quarter. They are cash only, but have an atm on sight. Their biscuits are the best on the planet and is not close.

Exactly what you’d expect and more. The oyster and crab po boys are perfection. They were so perfect I forgot to take a photo, was too busy eating them.

while visiting New Orleans, we were told that this place is home to "authentic" po-boy sandwiches. you know, like if you visit Philly, you just have to try ____ for an authentic Philly sandwich.
I would have to agree with the locals here.
the wife and I shared a crawfish and alligator po-boys, m.i.l. had a chicken po-boy. sides were fries and seafood gumbo.
the alligator was the best in our opinion, and the soup had a 1/2 small crab in it.
it was a fun place and very crowded! if you want to sit and eat, send a partner to grab an open table if one becomes available, while the other stays in line to order.

My last meal in New Orleans before leaving town. Again another first time dining and I decided another Po Boy was in order. Not far from my hotel and also a recommendation from the welcome center was Johnny's. They did not disappoint. I believe this was a Fried Green Tomato, Fried Shrimp Po Boy dressed and had remoulade sauce on it. It was off the charts. The place is small and quaint. Staff was awesome. And again the Po Boy was off the charts. I highly recommend.

As an Italian I have to say these Po-Boys are up there with my favourite foods. Aside from the food quality, which I have to repeat is amazing, my girlfriend and I were a bit short of cash that day. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at ease. This place is literally one of the reasons why I’ll definitely come back to New Orleans one day!

Our concierge from French Market Inn and tour guide from the cemetery tour both recommended this place- they were not mistaken when they said this was the best Po Boy place in New Orleans! We had the Roast Beef with extra gravy one day and the breakfast sandwich the following- both were delicious! Staff is kind and polite, love the atmosphere both in the afternoon and early morning!

Such good food! No wait, we got our food about 4 minutes after we ordered, good music and just such good vibes overall. I enjoyed eating here with my husband. Good seating, but there’s more space in the back if you need more seating. Overall such good po boys. We got the shrimp po boy and the gumbo with some cheese fries. It was all so tasty.

Alligator sausage poboy and seafood gumbo. Excellent and reasonably priced. Place is poppin so try to slide during non-peak hours

Awesome Roast Beef po boy!! I've been searching for a good roast beef in the quarter and this one really hit the spot. Hubby loved the oyster po boy. Gumbo and red beans and rice were good too.

Downtown New Orleans? Of course you gotta try a Po'Boy! I mean after all, it's one of New Orleans most famous dishes. After a handful of locals recommended me Johnny's I decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival this place was packedddddd, I was hungry, and literally dying from the walk since the weather in New Orleans is not what I'm use to. But anyways, we ordered 2 Po'boys. Alligator Sausage/Fried Shrimp. These sandwiches are something I'm regular with as in Seattle I love to order them, but Seattle isn't the originator is it. The service was great and we received our food pretty fast even though there was so many customers. Seating is almost non existent based on the amount of traffic this place gets, but be patient and you will score a table! Once we sat down and took a bite of the Po'boy I was immediately happy. The flavor was good, the bread was fresh, the food was hot. My wife and I both thought the Alligator had better flavor than the shrimp. This may be biased as we don't have Alligator often in Seattle so it was a rarity.
Don't kill me for saying this but I do think here in Seattle we have better Po'boys. It was just missing something....more sauce maybe? A chilotle mayo possibly? I'm not sure.
Overall, Johnny's was pretty cool for a tourist experience. I would suggest everyone to stop by for some good food and service. - Colter W

I have a place in my heart for divey little spots that let you get a taste of the city you're visiting. Johnny's is exactly that. Nothing pretentious, no frills, and not open late. Pop in, grab a bite, and go enjoy the rest of the city. Perfect for folks looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of the fancier sit-down restaurants. And great for knocking the dust off of your hangover.

Fantastic food, cash only, pretty crowded but worth it

Got catfish and alligator sausage poboys and hush puppies. Huge portions and delicious- next time I’d get half sandwich. The breading on the fish was crisp. Hush puppies were a bit greasier than I like but the flavor was great. Bloody Mary’s were a little bland but I just added some crystal- good garnish.

Hey man sometimes the best food comes out of a rundown hole in the wall joint from sweaty, greasy cooks with questionable moral fortitude serving up hot deliciousness..I needed an authentic New Orleans Po Boy and these guys did not disappoint. I got exactly what I wanted and it was delicious..just don't expect a fine dining experience here no sir just good food served up on a paper plate the way god intended..I read a few of the bad reviews below and I have one question...Who goes to New Orleans with a shrimp allergy? LoL
Doris Donohue Carlson
Ordered 1 Oyster poboy & 1 softshell crab pot boy. The bread on both sandwiches was a little hard. Mayo on only one side of the bread ( lazy) and tomato could have been seasoned. They charge you .50 cent to get the lettuce, tomato & Mayo dressing. (Tacky) Oyster poboy had shrimp in it. Good thing I'm not allergic to shrimp. General opinion: very fresh sandwich but, over rated.

Stopped in for breakfast and ate there every morning after, during our stay. After spending $26 per person for a mediocre, all you can eat breakfast buffet in a 5 Star hotel, Johnny's Po-boys $5 breakfast special was an amazing delight. Food was ample and great. Service was friendly and helpful.
Angela Hill Lee
The best fried chicken. The mac and cheese and the best gumbo.

My fav place to eat when I am in New Orleans... Absolute best place to eat!

inexpensive and tasty breakfast! Came back for lunch for FF Po boy! We were still pretty full from breakfast so split the po boy and it was plenty as they are huge.. Everything made to order! they also deliver!
Julie Specht Hunter
There is no better place in NOLA for a Po-boy! I go there every time I'm in New Orleans. The sandwiches are huge and I've tried several kinds. A half of a sandwich is filling for me.
Joseph Soltys
Had the shrimp po boy and gumbo and was totally in love with food and the service! A must go to in Nola
Monica Thomas
We had the Johnny' s special dressed oowee it was a huge sandwich!! my daughter and I shared it. Cash only bit we did our homework and knew that...sandwich was messy with the gravy but good. Limited seating, we ended up sharing a table with other people.
Kym Mokry Derouchey
This is my go to poboy spot when staying in the quarter. The breakfast is the bomb too. A local spot that no tourist should miss. My favorites the roast beef and the shrimp poboys.

Love this place. We stop every time we are in town. Last 2 times though the roast beef poboy was very salty... Delicious but too salty
