Brian loved his fried shrimp po-boy and I was able to have fried onion rings plus fried clams, shrimp and catfish as the batter was gluten free. Servers were friendly and helpful at the Magazine Street location.
STILL the best seafood platter in New Orleans!
Quality, quanity and price are all very reasonable.
You gotta love anything cooked in butter, especially their BBQ Shrimp! Butter and spices and HUGE shrimp. Definitely my favorite but everything is amazing here.
We were quickly seated and received our food in a timely manner. The stuffed mushrooms and crab au gratin were delicious. Also enjoyed the gold brick sundae although it is probably enough to share amongst 4 or more. Very kid friendly and accepting of casual dress.
The food was absolutely amazing!! The waitress was very nice although we did feel very rushed. We almost felt like the maitre D was giving us looks for taking so long even though we were trying to chow everything down as fast as possible. Lots of local families coming in for a bite which is a good sign of good food.
Had a great lunch there. Po'boy and Jambalaya. Excellent food. Good service. All at the table enjoyed their meal. Will definitely go back. Got right in at lunch. Had 30 minute wait had we stayed for that the evening before. Probably would have been worth the wait.
So good. My husband and I shared the chargrilled oysters, gumbo, stuffed shrimp, and soft shell crab. The food was amazing. We came based on the recommendation of a friend; now we're sharing it with everyone else. Very good!
This is a really solid stop. I really enjoyed my experience here. I will say, there is better food for the price at other places though. The line was a bit long to get in. But as they say, "if there is a line, that's a good sign". I would dine here again.
Busy, so busy. Queues were estimated at 2 hours on a Saturday night. Luckily the bar was on a first come first served basis and I managed to grab a seat within 5mins. Had the BBQ shrimp which they're famous for and while it is a great dish, it is not better than the hot n juicy crawfish of Vegas. Still the spiced potatoes, bread and sauce made for a very satisfying meal. Also had the fried soft shell crab which was OK. Service was great.
February 2016 - OMG they are really good! I had the BBQ shrimp. They were LARGE and flavorful. The price shocked me a little but I knew it would be slightly high because of the seafood aspect of the restaurant. Our server was AMAZING too. Especially during Mardi gras season I think that's so appreciated!
The interior resembles a fifties diner.
We arrived about 6 which was perfect as the line formed soon after.
The boiled potatoes were good as the free snack. I thought my BBQ shrimp pasta just good nothing special.
The portions were large but don't expect anything cheap as my pasta plus one drink was $38
We tried Deanie's on the recommendation of the desk clerk at our hotel which was just across the road. The staff were friendly and our waitress (Chelsea) was so nice. We had a fried oyster dinner, which was piled high with oysters and very tasty , and a stuffed shrimp with crabmeat, which was delicious and again huge in portion. A very good Blue moon beer washed it all down perfectly.
Great seasoning and flavors on some good gulf seafood. But be careful not to get too full eating the potatoes served before the meal. You'll have plenty to indulge in especially if you order a full or half of a platter. There are many seafood restaurants in NOLA to choose from but Deanie's is always a good satisfying option.
Sometimes you visit a restaurant and select a dish you want, versus the one that the restaurant is screaming at you to order. And you almost always lose! My experience at Deannie’s began at 9 p.m. on a Friday evening, and there was quite a wait even at this late hour. When I was finally seated, I was greeted with a bowl of what appeared to be small red potatoes, instead of bread. When I inquired about the weird bread, I was informed they actually were small red potatoes, and meant to be eaten by hand, with a bit of butter and salt, to taste.
Soooo good. Casual dining experience with delicious, upscale food. Our waiter was wonderful!! But, they all seemed to be. They serve boiled potatoes at every table while you're waiting on your food. I had the shrimp po-boy and the hubs had stuffed flounder. Both were delicious! The portions were huge and almost everyone in there seemed to get to-go boxes - the food's to good to just leave it!!
Let me start out by saying that I am from the gulf coast. For 37 years I have dined on all of the various seafoods, so you could say that I have a taste for fine ocean fare. Deanie's was a recommendation from a New Orleans resident of 50 years, so I was expecting good things. A starter of new potatoes came to the table as we waited for our orders. These little tasty taters' were from the boiling pot of the crawfish and shrimp, however the seasoning was not overwhelming as you might expect, but quite delightful. The entree that I chose was the crab dressing stuffed flounder filets. I have had this dish many times from fine establishments all along the gulf coast and was expecting the average dish. I was absolutely astonished at the quality of this dish and highly recommend it if flounder and crab is something you desire. Other members of our party had the catfish and shrimp combo, and the crawfish étouffée. Both were pleased. I will definitely eat here again in the future and recommend it to others.
We had only a short wait, the hostess was busy but cordial and attentive. Our server was friendly and informative. One member on our party can be a little picky, she left happy. I truly enjoyed the generous serving of Étouffée, I'll happily dream about it tonight.
Service was excellent. We ordered a few rounds of oysters and drinks before an Eric church concert at the smoothie king center. The complimentary boiled potatoes are a must and were greatly appreciated. Location is superb.
Good basic local seafood place. Went here at the recommendation of the hotel clerk after arriving into town. Took longer than it should have to get a seat, but the food was good and there was a ton of it. Charbroiled oysters are tasty, and we had the clam and crawfish quartets, respectively. Planning on going back and getting the boiled platters before we go home again. Go before 6:30 if you can -- the line got a lot longer as the night wore on.
My first date with my current boyfriend was here. I'm from MS and I thought, "what the heck? Did this man really take ME to a seafood restaurant as our first date?" But little did I know... This wasn't just an ordinary deep-fry-anything-and-it-will-taste-good kind of place.. It was a well seasoned, perfectly fried, kiss from the Angel above! Everything was fresh and big portions! When he only ordered the "half platter" and told me we'll "share" I thought, "strike two!" No... It's big enough. And plus some to take home.
Awesome!!!. Love the food and service. Thanks Lakeia! She was fab! Half platter was big enough for six. Stuffed crab...OMG!!!!
Bring your appetite and patience. We ate there recently and the wait was one h.our. Once seated the services was great, food fresh, hot and tasty, and an enormous amount of food that we could not even finish. The half seafood platter was an astonishing amount of food for two people.
Get the fried shrimp. I'm not a fan of touristy places like Deanie's Seafood, but their fried shrimp are outstanding. The BBQ shrimp are also good but they over-cook them. The boiled shrimp are above average. Love the boiled potatoes they bring out.
It's way over-rated in my opinion.
Crabmeat Au Gratin and Bucktown Pizza outstanding.
Fast and friendly service. Arrived an hour after getting off cruise an enjoyed a taste of New Orleans finest. I would highly recommend this location.
New favorite. This was our favorite place to eat on our recent trip to NOLA. We ordered the crawfish quartet and loved it all. I also enjoyed the shrimp remoulade -- the sauce was delicious and was served on the side rather than smothering the delicious shrimp. The restaurant was very busy, but service was good. Will definitely eat here again, as well as tell all our friends about it.
Great Experience. We stopped in for lunch and were lucky to find no wait! The fried artichoke hearts are outstanding! The marinara sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste but the flavor of the artichokes covers the sweetness perfectly. The shrimp po boy was good, the shrimp was overflowing and quite yummy! Honestly, I'd rather have bread than the old bay seasoned potatoes but they are handy if you want to throw them in the gumbo. I did taste my mom's seafood gumbo and while she enjoyed it I didn't care for the flavor. I will absolutely be back to Deanie's, it was the best appetizer of our trip!
The wait is always long but the food is definitely worth it!
Best seafood place in Nola. I prefer the lake location. Good catfish.
Excellent food. Tried to dine here on Saturday night and the wait was too long. We came back Sunday for lunch and were blown away! The broiled oysters were perfectly prepared. My partner had the crab stuffed shrimp and I had the fish of the day (redfish). Both dishes were delicious. The House Pinot Grigio was a perfect wine to compliment this meal and the service at the bar (where we ate) was beyond exceptional. This will be a definite repeat!
Took some out-of-town guests here for dinner. Waited for a table for 1 hour 45 minutes. When it was our turn to be seated, the manager pitched a fit that we had a few party members in the restroom and wanted to skip us because our party wasn't complete...
Needless to say, the seafood is excellent. You can't go wrong with the place! Ordered the half-order of fried seafood, more than plenty for 2 people.
We will be going back, I just hope the manager was having a bad day...
So good!!!. Loved the boiled shrimp and potatoes! The steak wasn't so great but the seafood was wonderful! Try the gumbo. Probably the best boiled shrimp I have ever eaten!
We had a 30min wait, which they give you a beeper to let you know when the table is ready.the service was excellent.i had the crab quartet which wasn't great-the cheese dish was not to my liking, but the bread pudding was lovely
Good fried seafood. Prices reasonable, plenty of food. If you are with your spouse share an entree.

Amazing food! The boiled potatos are awesome. The Shrimp platter is HUGE and delicious! The atmosphere is nice and cozy, even though it's a big restaurant. The wait was only 5 minutes on New Years Day!
Ate here today based on the referral from a friend. The food was excellent and I like the atmosphere. I read some reviews here that said it was overpriced. It's seafood and it's New Orleans. I thought it was reasonably priced. If their management team reads these reviews, they need to know that their service is definitely the weakness. I've only been here once, but our server today took our order, forgot to bring back the drinks and didn't show back up until after the appetizers and the main entrees were served. We still asked him to bring the drinks (tea) we ordered. No managers ever checked on us. Our waiter seemed preoccupied with another table. Not surprisingly, we were still charged for the tea even though it wasn't served until we were almost finished. I don't like complaining in a restaurant because I don't want anyone thinking I'm complaining to get something free. However, this is one bit of feedback that I hope the management at Deanie's reads.
This is my second time there before I can write a review. First time was a wait because it was in the summer. But it was a breeze after we sat.
This time around was more of a breeze. There was still a line if people but we did not have to wait long at all. All I have to say is go on an empty stomach or order light if you're not that hungry. Three people at the table ordered half seafood platters and that was more than enough. They ended up boxing it to give to homeless people outside. Food was delicious.
Don't get the bad reviews. BBQ shrimp is amazing and they have a great lunch special. Service was good, waiter was very friendly. Great atmosphere and my husband had the crawfish cooked three ways, which he enjoyed!
Not Too Bad. For decent seafood, it's a pretty good restaurant. Don't go on gameday (especially after, because you'll get the Bobby Hebert crowd and will be there for hours). Bloody Mary's are big & yummy, but food can be a bit pricey. The crawfish and crab balls are both delicious, and the seafood gumbo was surprisingly good for a blonde roux!
Great portion in the seafood combo .

Great food and wonderful service! I had stuffed flounder and it was very good. My daughter had chicken tenders. They were excellent!!! Well done!
Ordered the combo platter and got catfish, oysters and shrimp. One platter was enough for two of us. Great price too
First, but not the last time. Having traveled to New Orleans 1-2 a year for the past 30 plus years, we have tasted the food in almost every restaurant in the French Quarter, except Deanie's. The hotel Concierge suggested that we try them for an early dinner to avoid the long wait. She told us Deanie's was more like a local spot and not some big chain. Just what we were looking for.
While waiting, we sat the bar near where the kitchen brings out the bar food and got to "preview" many of the dishes. Once seated, we ordered the fried crab claws appetizer and they were very good. There's not much there, but they sure are good. While my wife ordered the Ettoufee, I selected the fried shrimp. There was ample food for the price, both dishes were very good and we were pleased with them.
The whole experience was positive and we will return on our next trip. As we left, around 7:00, we saw many customers standing and sitting inside and outside with their pagers. Glad we went a little early!
Wonderful food, great staff! We'll be back again for sure. Crawfish were awesome and fried oysters were the best!
It is so amazing I go the crawfish and crab gumbo just amazing...KMart what is wrong with you ordering pizza at a New Orleans cafe!!!!!
Simply amazing. Recommend the big seafood platter if you're dining with 6 people who love fried fresh seafood!
A+ for this food find. Crawfish were great. Service was excellent. Plan to make this a tradition.
We went for the BBQ shrimp, had it as an appetizer and it was excellent but what we really loved was the Crabmeat Au Gratin! I wouldn't get it as you only entree because it is very rich, do as my wife and I did and share it along with another entree, you won't be dissapointed.
Fabulous Seafood. Worth the wait. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent.
Delicious!. The food is great and the portions are huge. Be sure to order the 'Crawfish Balls'. Very attentive staff.
All I can say is it made my stomach smile! Excellent!!

Quick review. Big group. Lots of food. Let's get to it! Boiled Potatoes - complimentary with every meal, spicy, excellent, come back for these alone! Seafood Combo Platter - good. Steak - good. BBQ Shrimp - delicious, messy, head and all, came 2 separate times for them. Shrimp Pasta - ok. Trade ID for pager and expect 30 min to 1 hr wait.
Started with the charbroiled oysters, not to be confused with chargrilled oysters. They were good, but not on the same level as the chargrilled. I had the New Orlean's style BBQ shrimp entree. They were overcooked and extremely hard to peel, but had a good flavor. Overall, I thought Deanie's food and service were good, and I would probably make a return visit.
Mmmm....shrimp. The New Orleans style barbecue shrimp is divine. The term "bbq" is kind of a misnomer, as this is nothing like the type/taste of food typically conjured by the phrase. This is something completely different and completely delicious. Plus, the french bread that they serve with it is outta this world. Been here several times and each time the service and food are always right on the money.
What a Great Restaurant. We went to Deanies This weekend. Loved every Fried Shrimp delivered to me. Oh my God these people can cook Seafood. When I am in Metairie I go to Bucktown most days but when I am in the quarter I have to Visit the Iberville location. This place is legit and authentic. Locals and Visitors eat at Deanies. Keep up the great work!
Casual place with diner decor.. This is a casual place just a block or so off Burbon in the French Quarter. The fried seafood is extremely good. The crabmeat au gratin is also very good. The serving sizes are huge. Definitely worth the time and money to eat here.
Huge portions, decent price. Gets crowded quick. We would most definitely go back.
BETTER Than BUCKTOWN. Recently went to stay overnite at N.O.F.Q., and planned to eat at Deanie's. Found our hotel was right across the street. The restaurant was classy, service impeccible, free hot boiled new potatoes & butter. The raw oysters were the BEST I have ever eaten & I have lived and eaten in the N.O. area for my life. The charbroiled oysters were just as good as those at Dragos. Had the spinach salad with fried oysters, bacon bits and red onion..with honey mustard dressing. WONDERFUL! Would go back in a heartbeat!
Met Expectations. One great thing about Deanie's (at least when we went in the afternoon) is that it did not have a line like Acme.
Our hotel staff at Le Pavillon recommended Deanie's for lunch and we were glad we tried it.
Instead of bread the waiter brought warm boiled new potatoes before our order arrived, but unfortunately he neglected to tell us they were spicy. My wife tried them first and since she is hypersensitive to hot seasonings, she did not like them. I thought they were great.
For our meal, I had a shrimp po boy and my wife had the stuffed shrimp. I also had a cup of gumbo and it was the wonderful brown broth that I have only had in New Orleans. We both liked our meals.
Prices were reasonable and service was good, but my wife thought the waiter we had was a bit arrogant.
If we ever managed to make our way to all the other places we still want to try in the French Quarter, we would return to Deanie's.
Excellent food... Loved the building... Great service...
It was wonderful. The wait was a little long, but we anticipated that. It is in New Orleans after all. The atmosphere was great. It has the look of a diner but the ambiance of a five star classy restaurant, if that makes sense. The barbeque shrimp pasta and the fried shrimp were amazing. If you like raw oysters, I'm sure you'd like them, though I don't care for oysters at all. And the potatoes? Amazing. If you're in the mood for a drink, the Jose margarita is outstanding. All in all, this was a lovely place that provided excellent service and wonderful food. We'll definitely be going back.
Deanie's offers the best seafood that I've ever had, and I've had A LOT of seafood. You know how there's a generic fried food taste that makes a lot of fried foods taste essentially the same? Well, I don't know what they do differently at Deanie's, but the fried foods do not just taste like typical fried foods. There's something very special there. Also, the boiled potatoes served prior to each meal is an extremely pleasant deviation from the buttered bread standard at a lot of restaurants, especially when they're dipped in the delectable juices that come with an order of Deanie's signature BBQ shrimp. Mmmmmm... Don't even get me started on the BBQ shrimp.
It's All Good at Deanie's. Our table sampled a number of items from the menu and all of them came up winners. I'm not a huge oyster fan, but even I had to admit that the charbroiled oysters were wonderful. And, the bar drinks were not mere shadows of themselves---they were robust and flavorful and well crafted.
Our waiter seemed to be having an off day or perhaps was new, so we're hesitant to give Deanie's low marks in this category having only been there once.
Casual atmosphere and great food! We wanted to eat at a quality seafood restaurant, but didn't pack the attire to go to a 4 star place. Deanie's was a perfect choice! Great food, attentive service.
Great Family Place. We ate here on a recent weekend in New orleans. I loved the potatoes they bring to the table before the meal they were spicy and perfect. I had the pasta and shrimp and my daughter had salad and shrimp creole both were good. The rest of our party, which was three more people ,shared the seafood platter and still had some left over to take to the hotel. A very good deal for the amount of food you get. We all shared the bread pudding for dessert because we were full but we had to try. It was great as well. I was sent to this place by a local and I will definately go back.
BBQ Shrimp. Delish, but bring some wet wipes (so messy!).
Not as good as Bucktown, but good. The big three of fried seafood in the Quarter are Deanie's, ACME, and Felix's. Deanie's is by far the best of the three. The fried seafood dishes are reasonably priced and usually consistently good. There is no C-store attached to it, but don't hold that it against them. Like the one in Bucktown, it has good new potatoes and butter for free. But there is no seafood market next door.
If I were an internet loser from Tampa who trolls New Orleans food forums and dedicates hours on end to a website that I got banned from, I might compare it to Sam's, but I won't.
Seriously, if you want moderately priced decent seafood in the Quarter, Deanie's is where you go.
Two crawfish tails and new potatoes up!
Really good food for respectable price. Please have the stuffed shimp.
BBQ shrimp was just "ok." it was better at Tony Moran's. Nice family atmosphere.
Good down home place. It may look like a cold cafeteria to some, but I am not there for the decor. I love the fact that they give you boiled potatoes instead of bread, and since it is boiled in the same pot as the crawfish, or whatever seafood they use, it tastes wonderful. We are a family of foodies, and when we go to a restaurant, it had better be worth eating, and this place is THE place for affordable seafood. We all learned how to eat crawfish properly here after we butchered our first tray...everyone was laughing at us, so the waitress showed us how to do it. We had such fun!
Great Seafood. Great seafood restaurant for a family on vacation. Portion are gigantic. THeir 1/2 seafood platter can feed 3 people maybe 4 depending on how hungry you are but it is certainly more enough for one person. It is a very popular place so be there early it you dont like waiting in line for a while. Price is also very reasonable
Seafood. You just can't go wrong with this place. they have something to please everyone.. the quantities of food are enough to share. great staff also.
French Quarter secret. Best place for a great meal in the Quarter. Friendly wait staff. Plenty of good food for a respectable price.
Looking for good seafood? Here it is.. Looking for a casual, seafood restaurant, our hotel concierge recommended Deanie's to us. I'm glad she did. If you want to try a place that's not in the "Top 10" list of famous New Orleans restaurants, this is a wonderful option. First impressions as you walk in are like a diner. Open area, bright lighting, simple decor. You can view the kitchen area from most of the seating area. There is a nice curved bar where you can seat and have dinner as well. One of the unique things here is that instead of bread or rolls before dinner, you are given a small bowl of boiled red potatoes. While the initial impression is a combination of "wow and what?!" they're boiled with some flavorful spices that give these taters quite a kick. Very good! I had the mahi-mahi which was prepared wonderfully. I also had some hand-cut onion rings which were very delicious. Our waiter was extremely helpful in making our dinner selections.
Wonderful Seafood. Great place to get New Orleans seafood. Hit this restaurant on the right night and you may get to see Bobby Hebert in the Point After Show. It's a great place for casual diners or people looking to hangout at the bar.
Good service, selection. We were looking for a mainly-seafood restaurant on our last night in New Orleans. Deanie's delivered -- good service, a large menu and delicious food -- crawfish every way you can imagine, oysters, good local beer -- I tried the seafood mini pizza and it was great. Excellent service -- this is not your intimate little bistro type of place -- it's big, lots of servers and workers, pretty noisy, but it delivers.
Fantastic! Finally a place that has excellent food, reasonable prices, great service, and wonderful history and ambiance! The soft shell crab was delish along w the catfish, crawfish po-boy, and the gumbo. Delish!!!
The food quality was very good but if you're not into seafood, don't bother coming as their menu does not have many non-seafood items. The gumbo was excellent with plenty of crab and shrimp and their giant seafood platter for $48 is a good deal considering it will easily feed four people. Be prepared to wait 60-90 minutes for a table if you don't have reservations. The service is horrible, however so be prepared for that as well.
Best Coconut Custard Bread Pudding. 4 Koños. When you sit they bring you instead of bread red skin potatoes that are sweat and hot. I had the Gumbo & it wasn't as thick as I like but very tasty. For my main course I had the fried shrimp which was delicious. Cooked to perfection not rubbery and dry. For dessert shared the Coconut Custard Bread Pudding. OMG died and gone to heave! Staff is courteous and very attentive specifically Damian. Bathrooms are very clean!
Fantastic local's fav. Excellent, fun service & the food was wonderful from the complimentary crawfish-boiled baby potato appetizer to the excellent seafood extravaganza
Was an OK dining experience. Large portions for sure. Fries were disappointing. Service was OK. Not upscale.
Good Seafood!. The seafood was real cajun seafood. Be ready to eat some HOT stuff! The portions were huge. A couple can share the half platter! Worth the money!
One of the reviewers called it upscale. Wrong. Comfortable, easy, good boiled seafood, friendly staff. Had fun watching the Saints post-game radio show.
Dec. 27, 2009.. Yes, it is open and very busy.. Had a catfish po-boy. Wonderful. Will try it again. 60's diner decor..
4/5 Star - Greatly Stumbled Upon. We tried to look for food @ about 11 am, and a bunch of restaurants have not opened yet. Passing by we saw that they were open so we said heck why not. The Grilled Oysters were amazing, and the Po boy was huge. The only thing that we missed was the crawfish, and when we went, we were told that they haven't completely matured yet, since the storm. Such a bummer.
Hoppin place lots of tables, great blackened redfish and crab au gratin, disappointed they were out of blues and crawfish. Their Voodoos are pretty tasty.
NOT CLOSED!. I ate there today!!!!!!
581-1316. Seafood. lunch is 11am-3pm M-F lunch entrees $10-16; dinner $15-25 entrees. The original one in Bucktown was founded in the 1850s. Modern bland atmosphere, not an exciting corner. Crab au gratin, crab balls, and stuffed crab all great. The spicy potatoes on the table were tremendous. 8/09.
Good meal and good service. We shared the Crawfish Au Gratin (needed more bread, for extra charge) w/ a BBQ Shrimp app. The shrimp were messy (which we were warned), but excellent.
Not bad..... Friend had the Crawfish Etouffee and I thought that was pretty good actually. My husband had the Stuffed Crab and it was okay. I had the Barbecue Shrimp and it was just not what I thought it would be. Very large portions and if you like fried seafood I saw the platters and they were huge! I would go back and try again.
It was a good thing we came when we did, too! The place got to really rollicking within minutes of our seating, with a big line out the door and groups of over 20 celebrants scattered about the large dining room. The wait staff was beginning to be Really Challenged. Apparently a standing situation on Friday nights at Deanie’s, and with good reason (as we found out).
I have got say this was one of my favorite places while in NO. We were able to snag a table after a short wait. The service was prompt and consistent throughout our visit. This was downright delicious! I truly enjoyed and would make it a point to come back on my next visit!
I liked the ambiance of Deanie's. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with hefty appetites, but still managed to over order. We started with the BBQ shrimp, char-grilled oysters, and onion rings and that honestly would've been a satisfying meal. We also did a half seafood platter, which was way more than the two of us could finish at once. The complimentary seafood boil potatoes were a nice beginning. The barbecue shrimp was my favorite dish, and I ended up using the sauce to dip everything else in. I also really liked the fried crawfish balls. Service was excellent. I would go back.
We went here for our last official meal on our New Orleans trip. We were referred by a local that stated, we would "like the food and definitely not leave hungry." And I have to say they were correct!
I was very nervous about eating a restaurant with seafood in the name given that I have a shellfish allergy. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The server assured me the catfish was cooked in a location away from the shellfish. I ordered a fried catfish poboy, and my bf had the fried catfish platter. When the food arrived, it had a nice (large) portion size, and it tasted great. I would definitely recommend it if you are in the French quarter area.
Pros:
*Large portion sizes
*Reasonable price
*Well seasoned food
Cons:
* 30+ minutes wait to be seated
Loved dining here and it was clearly a NOLA favorite, there was a 20-30 min wait for a table on a weeknight so many people opted for full-service bar seating. Servers are generous and fast and food was really great! Particularly loved their soup trio that let me try a few different options! Their dish was fresh and savory, would definitely recommend.
The food was really good! The soups/stews were so flavorful! The fried green tomatoes were tasty too!
Our server was friendly!
I totally recommend this place.
You get a good amount of food fir the price but they are very light on seasoning the fried dishes. We had the half seafood platter with oysters, shrimp, soft shell crab, fries, catfish and crab cakes. It was good with sauces but needed a little bit of seasoning salt. It was a little bland. It was good. The drinks ( Long Island iced tea) were good. The charbroiled oysters...amazing!!!!!! Our waitress knew the menu and prices without looking. She didn't write down our order and got everything right. She was awesome!!! Good place. I'd go back
We liked Deanie’s Seafood Restaurant a lot. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was colorful and lively and the restaurant is well laid out. Our rating would have been an easy five except for the receptionist. She was not at all friendly, never smiled and never made eye contact. This is a shame as otherwise everything was quite good.
Stopped by this place based off a friend's suggestion while in New Orleans and it did not disappoint. It was very crowded and lines were long but food was worth it. Although our waitress was extremely busy she was very engaging. Very large portions and gratuity of 18% or 20% is included in your tab. I don't remember exactly this is a late review I was here a few months ago and I tipped above the already included gratuity. Check this place out if your in New Orleans.
WE visited Deanie's on May the 14th in 2015 and I forgot to leave a review....This was the best meal we've had on this Nawlins visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the crawfish quartet, when our personable waiter told us the soup of the day was crawfish bisque...we joyously changed our order to a quintet. Fried mudbugs, crawfish au gratin, crawfish croquettes and fried crawfish tails. We'll be visiting Deanie's the next time we vacation in Nawlins and there will be a next time 'cause we like to eat great food and this city may be one of the best places on this planet for foodies...we haven't had any average or mediocre meals in this town.
The staff were awesome, great location and atmosphere. We loved that they greeted us at our table with a bowl of boiled potatoes! Never saw that before. We ordered a pile of different dishes. Mostly deep fried. Most of the food was ok but a little bland flavor. We were hoping for some good ole Cajun cooking. It filled is up for sure but it didn't have the kick we were looking for. Lots of gluten free options which was a huge plus. Tip included on bill with a group of 5. Crawfish balls, potatoes, bacon wrapped shrimp and BBQ shrimp were good.
Great location and the food was all delicious. The complimentary red potatoes are amazing when you cut them up and mix in the butter packets. We got the charbroiled oysters, half seafood platter, side of crab au gratin. I had been here 6yrs ago and it was so good that I made it a point to come back.
Service could definitely use improvement. We sat for 23 minutes without anyone coming by. I was planning to order a second glass of wine but by the time the waiter came back we were long done eating already.
Good Southern food. Even the deep fried food was not greasy. Several mixed platters available. The complementary boiled spicy potatoes in jackets are very good. Very clean bathrooms as well (at least I observed the men's).
The portions are definitely worth your money but I was expecting more flavor from my main course which was BBQ Shrimp pasta. The shrimp was just boiled & added to the pasta but no flavor was on them.
The garlic bread was amazing, table potatoes that were complimentary was also awesome! My husband ate fried catfish dinner & they were very tasty...I'm sure it was the batter.
Our waitress Kelli was a sweetheart & patient with our party of 15 which included a kids table
I can't say enough about this place. You need to visit. The atmosphere, service, and food were all extremely excellent!! I was not disappointed at all. The soups had a little kick to it, and the poy boy was fresh and flavorful.
What an amazing meal! We ordered the giant seafood platter and split it between four and had plenty of food. Everybody loved trying all the different types of seafood. Our server T also made the experience great! She provided fantastic service and definitely matched my enthusiasm.
So we ended our Saturday here after a golf tournament. There was a 45 min wait for a party of 6 when we got there around 5:30pm. It was packed but everybody was friendly about the wait because they wanted the food! We were able to have drinks and appetizers at the bar and then make our way to our table when our name was called. At the bar we ordered margaritas and the “Voodoo Juice” as the waitress called it.
They made sure to sit us next to our colleagues and boss who had arrived before us which was thoughtful.
We ordered the infamous charbroil oysters, shrimp/seafood dip and seafood platter (half) shared between two people.
Mostly every thing was clean and food came out in decent time. The only reason why I gave this establishment 4 stars is because they had closed off a whole eating section due to a rowdy bunch of people mad about the timing of service the night before that began to riot. The manager closed off the section and this created a longer wait time than necessary for all the people coming in the next day.
It was pride weekend and several other conventions in town, like ours. I believe they could have opened it back due to it being a Saturday and larger crowd.
I would definitely go back!
Stepping into Deanie's is like stepping into a seafood lover's paradise. We began our culinary journey with crayfish by the pound, a delightful exploration of flavors, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Oysters on the Half Shell were a taste of the ocean, fresh and subtly briny. The Chicken Andouille Gumbo, steeped in tradition and flavor, was a comforting bowl of smoky, hearty goodness. Next, the Fried Oyster Dinner showcased perfectly crusted oysters with a delightful burst of flavor. The Fried Shrimp Dinner was an array of golden, crisp morsels, while the Barbeque Shrimp offered a smoky, succulent taste adventure. The Chicken Breast Po-Boy was a classic done right, the chicken perfectly tender and juicy. Deanie's isn't just a restaurant; it's a cornerstone of New Orleans cuisine. Unforgettable and highly recommended!
Very good gumbos and etoufee. Peel and eat shrimp were huge. Cocktail sauce had some serious stank on it and was spicy. Daniel, out server was awesome, patient and knowledgeable. 5 stars for her.
