My favorite Beignet in the city, great atmosphere, amazing beignets and I love the coffee! A great place to take your wife and kids and a favorite spot of mine!
So I come to New Orleans for two reasons seafood and beignets. I plan on hitting as many beignet shops as possible and this was the first one I come upon. They were a lot bigger than I expected but that didn't stop me from devouring them. They are messy with a mountain of powdered sugar on top. But oh so delicious. So I'm 1 for 1 on tasty beignets.
When I was walking back to my hotel, I passed "Cafe Beignet," and decided to get my coffee fix. This small shop is sweet looking, and even had live music while I was there!. Café Beignet is a cup full of New Orleans’ best European traditions. For two hundred years, New Orleanians have savored every sip of their rich coffee accompanied by delicate, crisp beignets (ben-yays).
Really good place to have a nice lunch and some huge beignets!!! The beignets were pipping hot and really tasty. A little heavier than Cafe du Monde though; like doughier than I'm used to. It took a while to get them and that would be my only negative. But the chicken gumbo was really nice too. Overall I would try them again.
A very busy cafe. We tried to eat on the way to a tour but it was too busy so we came back later. I had heard to try beignets whilst in New Orleans and wasn’t disappointed however I wasn’t sure what to expect. Doused in icing sugar it is hard to keep the icing sugar from dropping. They had an entertainer about to start in the afternoon we went there

This place was open on the day we arrived and most of the quarter was shut down due to ice and weather ! So happy we found this place . Service fabulous, coffee fabulous, and our first time enjoying a beignet !!!! Mmmmmmm love ❤️ them
If you are looking for something warm to drink and a beignet, and more I suggest you forgo the walk and the wait in line for Cafe du Monde and go to Cafe Beignet instead. The first is an assembly line, a well oiled machine that the industrial engineer in me marveled at.
The second is smaller, a more intimate neighborhood establishment. The beignets are on par, if not better. The staff is friendly and helpful... the hot drinks are just as good. And you have other options should members of your party want to go off the beaten path!
I wanted to try the beignets here and saw Cajun hash browns . Needless to say I was very impressed by the Cajun hash browns with the andoullie sausage and green peppers. I dudnt realize they came with scrambled eggs. Some of the best fluffy scrambled I have had in a while. I haven't even started my beignets yet. Well here we go. Well these are meatier than Cafe Du Monde, and still good. The Jazz while I ate late breakfast was so nice.

Cafe Beignet is a great spot to satisfy you beignet cravings while in NOLA . the beignets are delicious and arguably some of the best in NOLA. If you’re looking for a Cafe Du Monde, alternative, this may be the spot the check out. Breakfast is served all day. New Orleans Cajun Specialties and Fried Seafood Also Available.
Good place to satisfy your beignet cravings while in NOLA. Small place compared to the number of people trying to get a seat and table. Long line on a sunday morning. Got seated under the tree right next to NOPD and it was awesome, as I got to listen to a street artist singer playing jazz... there was no better way to indulge on my cafe au lait and beignet.
I am glad we went to this place first. The line was a lot shorter than at Cafe du Monde, but not only that, I personally liked their beignets more. I felt like the beignets here are more crispy, and less doughy.
They also had a selection of other desserts and pastries, which were great. We got the baklava as well. We honestly could have done without it, but it was delicious too.
There is an outside seating area that is just lovely.
lovely ambience, too crowded on a happening street. Visted this place as an alternate to cafe du monde and it was worth it. they have perfect breakfast options like waffles, omlettes. had a happy & content meal 👍🏻
A good substitute if you don't want to make the walk to cafe du monde!
The beignets here probably aren't on the level of the famous CDM, however the quality here is almost as good! They are delicious and soft, and every mouthful bursts when you bite into it.
A New Orleans staple.
Place seems to be a bit of an institution in its own right, supposedly has better beignets that CafĂ© Du Monde which is known to be the real institution for beignets . Fabulous quiche, fabulous breakfasts, fabulous beignets – what more could you ask for.Â
But this is not the kind of establishment to laze away your morning. Their real estate is valuable. You eat. You leave.
Had a sandwich here- was very good, but ordinary. Did not have a beignet because we had one this morning. I would go back because it was good food cheap.
Very good Cafe au Lait; to-go style
Red Beans & Rice below average.
Beignets ok, very oily, good flavor.
Mufletta above average.
French Bread served is poor, low-quality
A little pricey for breakfast, but the beignets were fresh and very good. Not too far from the hotels on Canal Street and a good way to see a little of the French Quarter on your way to breakfast.
Following the suggestions of Alton Brown on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," my husband and I decided to go here and try their famous beignets. We were not disappointed! The place has AC, which is a big plus on a hot NOLA day. Also the place is not overcrowded with hot, sweaty people. And the beignets are perfectly cooked, non greasy and buttery! We returned several times to enjoy these!
Had the beignets, turnovers, and eclairs. Delicious. Small place, fairly quick service for the amount of people waiting in line. Took me about 10 minutes till I was ordering. Everything was delicious and the beignets are fairly good even after they cool down. Worth the wait.
I liked it, but the original (du Monde) is next level.
Fantastic breakfast spot! The service is quick and the servers very polite, though it can get very crowded on busy mornings. The omelettes are a solid choice, the beignets are delectable, and my wife noticed a coupon on their website for a free cafe au lait with any order (great deal). Their baked goods are also fantastic (got baklava on more than one occasion).
Delicious!. Alton Brown recommended and worth a stop--or two or three.
Very tasty, and rarely as busy as other, perhaps more famous, stops.
First ever Beignet and can't think of a more perfect place. Atmosphere, quality food and service...a must!
Small but good. I stopped in here one morning as I was walking back through the Quarter. There is tight seating so if you go when they're full you're better off grabbing a to go order. The cafe mocha was surprisingly good. Better than Starbucks but not as good as my favorite local place. The pecan waffle was also good but I would prefer more pecans. The fruit that came with it was ok but the melon was not very sweet. They'd probably be better off serving fruit. I doubt I'll return as $10 for a waffle is more than I want to spend unless it's got warm syrup and homemade whipped cream!
Nice. Coffee good and food was good. staff friendly and nice.....
Love it. Love the beignets, but please get someone to clean the tables.
Cute atmosphere. Friendly service. Great people watching potential. Food was yum and at a great price. Stop by!
We enjoyed the breakfast and the staff was friendly. We will eat there again.
Nice outside seating and can hear local street acts serenade you in the background.
I've seen debate over which beignets are better...the ones here or at Cafe Du Monde.
While I can't really compare foodwise, I will say that the multiple times I tried going to Cafe Du Monde during my stay in New Orleans, it was so hectic that I left without finding a seat or ordering anything. That seems like a place to go simply to say you'd been there.
I walked into Cafe Beignet and there was a line, but the atmosphere was more relaxed and friendly. I finally managed to get my beignets! Thank you Cafe Beignet!
Whoa!!!!! When Alton Brown said this place had better beignets than Cafe Du Monde, I didn't know what to think. I knew I had to try it for myself. I don't even have the words! The atmosphere is classic New Orleans and by that I mean NOT touristy. The beignets, as mentioned, beyond amazing. Cafe au Lait, the best I've ever had. Servers are also kind and friendly. All you need is a little patience to have your beignets cooked to order. Now on my list of New Orleans musts. Don't miss this!!!!
Forget Cafe Du Monde!. I had the iced cafe au lait and an order of beignets. They were both great! Their beignets were to die for. They were huge and delicious! Cafe Du Monde is nothing compared to Cafe Beignet.

Breakfast sandwich on a croissant was good. It has bacon, eggs, and Swiss cheese. The eggs are cooked in a thin layer and folded up on the croissant. The fresh squeezed orange juice was good. The beignets were excellent! Brought to our table super hot and fresh! These were MUCH better than the ones I had at Cafe Du Monde. If you only have time for one, come to Cafe Beignet. You won't be let down. Oh, also got a cranberry muffin to-go because their pastries looked so delicious! Bust into that on the plane!
Aaaaadorable. Ahhhh i love staying at a hotel that is right down the street from cafe beignet. okay so the beignets are not cafe du monde, yet they are still good in their own more crunchy less dense/airy type way. i prefer the more dense dough of cafe du monde beignets, but cafe beignet is never as crowded. they do a great cafe au lait hot and frozen along with a full breakfast and lunch menu that all looks to die for. i ordered the bacon egg croissant which was delivered to our adorable little table in the courtyard hot and delicious by a super smiley server. you order at the counter where you may also view their fresh pastries and desserts, and their menu is clearly displayed on chalkboards behind the counter. it's a smoothly run operation despite being a little crowded at times, and the food is worth the trip in. i enjoyed this little cafe quite a few times in my last visit.
Don't waste your time or taste buds at Cafe' Du Monde. This place has better beignets, better food, better atmosphere, and a whole lot cleaner and friendlier!!
Glad I beignet. Cute little shop. VERY busy on a Sat AM. Not the place to go if you're in a hurry. I got a mocha cappuchino and it was just fine. Are the beignets better than CDM? I don't know, at least as good. Slightly larger, and they don't go quite as overboard with the powdered sugar. Quite tasty.
All in all a good experience.
Tries too hard to be CDM. Are they trying to trick tourists?
Quite a delish cafe au lait.... Have never had food here, but this is my go to place for a cafe au lait or mocha when I am in the Quarter on a Saturday morning with my honey. Will get a coffee here and hit Cafe Fleur De Lis for food. :)
Best place!! Smelled so good from the minute you walked in the door. Stopped here for a little lunch split a muffaletta and chicken salad crossaint both were awesome!! Also had the beignets! Melted in your mouth! Definately will be back on the next go around!!
Quaint, Tasty Breakfast. In the heart of the French Quarter, Cafe Beignet on Royal is the best. And breakfast is where it is at for Cafe Beignet.
While the omelettes are great, I think it is the Breakfast Sandwich that really stands out on the menu. The bacon is wonderful, and the white cheddar makes it. Get it on a croissant.
They have a wide assortment of fresh fruit, coffees, and teas, and some pastries too.
And of the two or three Cafe Beignets, the one on Royal is the one with the most character and ambiance.
Cheap and good. Highly recommended.
Nicer atmosphere than the Cafe du Mone serving generous portions. Skip the coffe if you don't want to be dissapointed.
Great breakfast sandwich, beingnets, and eclaires. must try almond crousants.
Better beignets than Cafe du Monde! Melt in your mouth fabulous. Coffee is great too. Excellent location with inside and outside seating.
the obvious choice when you come to new orleans is cafe du monde for beignets.  what you don’t realize is that there is a better, less touristy option! enter: cafe beignet!  after trying the beignets at cafe du monde, we wanted to know if those were indeed the “best beignets.”  after some searching, we found that cafe beignet was featured on “the best thing i ever ate” as alton brown’s favorite.  umm… we love that show.  we obviously had to try it. here’s our verdict:  we completely fell in love with these beignets!!!  the difference is that the beignets at cafe beignet are flatter and more uniform in shape.  since they are smaller, they are a lot crispier than cafe du monde.  also, they came out hotter.  who doesn’t appreciate these things? we thought so. after trying these beignets, we had to go back to cafe du monde just to make sure we were making the right assessment (we ate beignets pretty much every day on our trip).  yep. our vote is with cafe beignet. ps. one order comes with three beignets ($3.99 per order). we had one order between the two of us. ambience:  the ambience is much cuter than cafe du monde.  small, quaint.  some awesome outdoor seating in the patio.  think cute cafe. service:  nice. you aren’t going to get the ridiculously long lines like cafe du monde.  that is a definite plus. overall:  excellent beignets.  these were our favorite! fresh, hot, crispy…#winning.  oh, and make sure you get a cup of coffee for the full experience.
When I walked by a place called Cafe Beignet on Royal Street in the French Quarter in New Orleans, I decided to stop in. I had sampled beignets from Cafe Du Monde a couple of days earlier and wanted to get beignets somewhere else in New Orleans to compare. Cafe Beignet was in a cool little brick building. It was long and narrow with low, arched ceilings. Cafe Beignet had signs hanging on the wall proudly announcing that they were featured on Food Network's Best Thing I Ever Ate with Alton Brown. I did a little Youtube searching and found the segment from the show that featured Cafe Beignet. Alton Brown endorsed beignets are probably good beignets, right? I didn't get the proper beignet accompaniment and get chicory coffee. I instead ordered a chai latte to drink. It was pretty standard. Then it was time to try the beignets! I'm sorry to disagree with Alton Brown, but I preferred the beignets from Cafe Du Monde. The beignets here were much denser than the fluffy beignets that Cafe Du Monde served. Not to say that these weren't good. I think it would be hard to mess up a beignet too badly, but if I had to choose, fluffy beignets would beat dense beignets.
Though virtually every New Orleans dining experience would be easy for a decent to good chef to replicate in Western New York, some of the biggest no-brainers are the city's famous sandwiches and desserts: though there are sometimes substantial variations

The beignets were delicious and the coffee was okay. The atmosphere was packed. You will wait!! But I think it was worth it. The breakfast sandwich was okay but the crawfish omelette and grits were excellent đź‘Ś
The Cafe Beignet, Royal street, is just a small niche that could easily be overlooked. It’s right next door to the Eighth District Police Station. They serve sandwiches, pastries and of course hot Beignets. The food is good and reasonable and there is lots of seating with the courtyard next door. On some evenings there is also live music. An enjoyable place to eat.
This place has an amazing atmosphere, great staff, fantastic chefs, AND the Beignets are amazing. I can't emphasize this enough, go here and not Cafe Du Monde. You will not regret the decision.
First stop for food was breakfast beignets and they did not disappoint. Food cooked fresh to order, real eggs and real grits. Beignets were soft, pillowy, sweet (but not too sweet), fried perfectly (not greasy) and served with right amount of powdered sugar.
Smaller dine In restaurant so it can get cramped, better to sit outdoors.
If you know, you know. This is a must-stop location anytime I'm in NOLA. The beignets are incredible dense. The sugar is never wanting. And the line moves faster than you think.
Came in on our way across the country on the i10. Stopped first at the city bark with my son's service dog. Next stop cafe beignets. The friendly dog patio and the staff seemed to be in love with our dog. I ordered the gumbo and my son ordered the jambalaya. Both ordered chicory coffee and 3 beignets. The food was great, just the right portion size. Beignets were hot and fluffy pillows of yummyness. The coffee for me was perfect, my son said "it's good I like it" but didn't drink more than a sip, but again he is 14 and a member of the Starbucks generation. Thank you for making our very long trip a bit more memorable. My son and my first time in NOLA, but I hope it won't be our last.
Breakfast ...love the patio. I am not a chocolate fan but the beignet was great! The star was the breakfast sandwich though. Their bacon in the croissant tastes like smoked ham. Omg it was so so so good. It took me to a smoking pit with a fresh hog in my mind.
Their coffee sucks though. Pass on that. I can drink most coffee but we both tossed ours-- ugh
Stopped here while traveling through NOLA. This place is so cute and has the most amazing beignets! The atmosphere is super cozy and lively and there is always a line because their food is just that good!
Great beignets, perfect ambience! The cafe au lait was excellent!! The crawfish omelet was delicious and a perfect amalgamation of flavors. The breakfast sandwich (with croissant) was delicious. The bread was flakey and the flavors were rich and full. Highly recommend!
Line was long, but it was so worth it!!! Would 100000000% recommend these beignets over Cafe DuMonde. They are fluffy and delicious! Just the right amount of powdered sugar! Coffee is also great!
1st time trying the beignets. They're pretty good. The service was great. The place is small and esthetic. However, their coffee was horrible!! It did not even taste like coffee. It was very water down.
I actually liked our visit here more than Cafe du Monde at Decatur for some reason. I guess coz although its busy, it has some coziness to it. We had a good spot just right by the entrance too where it didnt get too stuffy with the crowd, we get to people watch a bit had some outside breeze.
We got the beignets and iced coffee only although they offer more from the menu compared to Cafe Du Monde. While their competitor had some crisp to their beignets, I find the doughnuts here at Cafe Beignet soft, warm and pillowy. Both shops have equally delicious beignets in my opinion but I just love the vibe and area here.
my only beef with the place is that the wait is terribly long and line was slow moving. Im usually okay with wait times but with their NOLA weather it does tend to get me a little restless and impatient but i managed haha
Visiting NOLA from New York, I heard about beignets and kind of assumed they'd be just funnel cakes. We went to Cafe du Monde on the first day and the beignets we had were to me, were basically funnel cakes. I left there feeling underwhelmed.
On the last day of our trip we stopped in here to try theirs and it was a whole different experience. They were hot, and fluffy yet dense, and not at all like funnel cakes. They were absolutely delicious. The Cafe au laite with chicory root was also delicious here too, and also way better than the coffee at Cafe du Monde (which tasted like standard dinner coffee).
Highly recommend!
Also, the staff at this location was very friendly, and they have a nice courtyard, too. 🥰
Better beignets than Cafe du Monde. Cashier told me I look like Nev from Catfish but I’m not even mad cause they’re 100% spot on, as they were with their recommendations. Beignets were so good they could tell me I look like Shrek every time and I’d still come back.
Breakfast was good! Beignets were great. I just wish they were smaller! The view is great and loved watching birds go in and out.
Definitely a hot spot! Be ready to wait in line for some amazing beignets! We ordered to go and they were delicious. We also picked up a couple lbs of coffee beans which we love!
Nice little spot to grab a bite to eat and listen to some NOLA-based musicians.
On hot days, they have mist fountains which js particularly nice, especially at the end of August.
Food is decent but to be expected of a small cafe, nice employees. Definitely recommend as a spot to sit down for a moment!
The long wait is worth it to sit outside in the cute shaded courtyard. The food is decent, but the beignets are obviously the star.
