Always great. Servers are awesome. We go every week! They have the best frozen Irish coffee and atmosphere! Took my bff a couples weeks ago and every time we have told him we went he’s been jelly.

Two old high school buddies' girls trip, we really enjoyed our recent trip to New Orleans, kicked off with supper at Ernst's, at the end of the street from Harrah's. It was a great place, great service, good conversation with our waitress, and the gumbo was very good - not too hot or spicy - just 'enough.' We ended our week with a supper at Ernst's as well. Highly recommend. The nighttime atmosphere was cool, just to sit outside (on the bacony if you can), and look over the buildings, cobblestone streets, wrought-iron railings and decorations was special. Something you sit and soak in.

You cannot beat the price point here. $1 to $3 for all of their beers, It is impossible. Solid service too. I don't personally recommend the food as I have not tried it. But I have heard that the roast beef sandwich which is made in house is outstanding.
Donald Frailey
They had cheap cold beer. 1.25 to 3.25 a bottle.
The chips and queso and gumbo were good. The chips were a little stale but acceptable.

Our first stop out of the hotel. Great prices. Service was excellent. Good varieties of beer.

Went here twice during a business trip to NOLA. The first time was for lunch in the middle of the day. It was super busy and while the food was amazing, the service was not great. I was only barely able to grab a plate of nachos and get back to my meeting on a 90 minute lunch break. Ended up there one night though and the place totally redeemed itself. The price was amazing for beers, and we loved the bartender. She was super cool and welcoming and we had a great time. I will give the place 5 stars despite the service on the lunch because the evening service was so good. I assume they were super short staffed in the day.

Our first stop out of the hotel. Great beer prices, quick service. Stopped back later in the week late evening and sat outside. Had a beer and some late night snacks and Street watched people going by. Always a good crowd no matter what time of day. Didn’t eat a meal there but by the look of all the people eating, everyone seemed to be enjoying their food.

Upon the suggestion of our hotel front desk person, visited Ernsts, which was a couple blocks away, for a quick dinner. I had the grilled shrimp platter, which had a multitude of shrimp, waffle fries, and a tiny serving of jalapeno infused cole slaw. My wife had their red beans and rice. Both were delicious! Vibrant atmosphere, which appeared to be enhanced by the Saints playing on Thursday Night Football.
The only negatives were the watery sweet tea, and the time for our server to make his initial appearance, but overall, a really good experience!
Ron Slagel
Decent spot, decent food. Would go back more for appetizers than entrees, not that the entrees were bad at all.

This pub became our favorite place in New Orleans while we are staying. They have amazing beer offer!!!!!! Good music, and even good food. Highly recommend.
Jamal Mitchell
The food here was great. Brandon, our server was good as well. We had a buffalo chicken tender sandwich and a catfish po boy along with the bread pudding. The waffle fries were nice and crispy. The bread pudding, although good had a bit more cinnamon than I'm used to but it was still delicious. It would go well with a scoop of ice cream. Also the inexpensive beers are a bonus.
Tricia Bourbon
The Ernst gumbo was really well flavored. Our table was full of food to try. No one was disappointed.

Stopped by here for lunch one day with my sister during our trip to NOLA. It was pretty good and decently priced! Our food came out super fast and our waitress was nice. I had the nachos and my sister had the jambalaya. Both of them were really good and the portions were a nice size!

What a great find while in Nola for essence fest...love hearing the music from the outside and vibe inside was chilled as well. I ordered the seafood gumbo and crab cakes which both were delicious. I will definitely to be here again during my next visit.
Norman Davis
Petty good food. The Buffalo shrimp poboy looked amazing! The blue crab cake sandwich was more middle of the road -- could have used more jalapeño slaw for sure. Waffle fries were on point. If you like loud music and plenty of lively conversation, this is your kind of place.
Dr. Patrick Battillo
Nice location. Staff was great. The food is really good! The desert pudding was not the best but the nachos were very good. Their French fries and ranch are very good. Not sure if the ranch is made in house, but it was tasty.

Out of all the great places we ate, Ernst Bar and Cafe was the real gem. The red beans and rice was perfect on a chilly, rainy first night in the city.
We also had po'boys, the burnt ends macaroni and cheese, and waffle fries on the side. All was outstanding. Full of fresh flavor and authentic awesomeness.
The service also shone, even though we didn't get drinks. They were friendly and responsive and accurate.
We're gonna hit Ernst Cafe every time we return to New Orleans.

I have heard many great things about Ernst Cafe for many years. My partner and I popped in on Saturday, April 21st around 3pm to grab a drink after touring a Navy Ship at Fleet Week. Let me be clear, we are locals, so I will give them props for the Magnolia Bloody Mary, it was one of the best I've had in the city. The bartender, however, was so rude, I will never be back. My partner asked if he could have a draft beer and after giving us a strange look, then looking down the bar to her left, then her right, we realized they didn't have any draft beer. With a smirk on her face, my friend ordered an Abita Boot. Then there was my order, I ordered the Magnolia Bloody Mary. I had read the menu, it was a "special" of theirs but she asked me what kind of vodka I wanted. Puzzled, I asked "what kind of vodka comes in the one of the menu. She replied, "Magnolia", again with a wince on her face. That’s fine I said. “You want it with all the juice and stuff?” she asks. Um, what kind of juice I ask. “Bean juice”, she replies. Like spicy green bean juice I ask which she confirmed with a “yeah”. Yes, was my reply even though I’m ready to pay for my partner’s beer, tell her off and leave. Clearly having a bad day, I tried to make small talk about their food as I was a bit hungry and was considering sampling some small bites. Since I didn't see actual waiters or normal restaurant activity, I figured we order at the bar but her reply was..."that's a separate business!" I turned to look at the doors where a menu was posted and asked, "so the menu on the door (which had the previously mentioned Bloody Mary on it) is a separate business?" My partner asked, "what's the name?" With another strange look on her face, she replied "Ernst Cafe". Utterly confused at this point I asked, "is the restaurant upstairs?" She replied, "no, that's the separate business, it's an event space with a private party going on. That's the separate business!" At this point, I'm furious but out of respect for not embarrassing by partner, I kept my cool. She handed me my credit slip where I seriously considered giving her no tip at all but I've never stiffed someone on a tip, so instead and to prove a point to this awful person, I gave her a $4 tip our 2 drinks. I immediately told my partner to get a go cup for his bottle, which he did, and we immediately walked out.

Ate there this past Sunday. Was not impressed with food or service. There's way too many restaurants in the area not to have a roast beef sandwich that is served with NO gravy. Better yet when asked for gravy your told there's none in restaurant we don't have any. Or to order a drink and it never comes. I recommend picking another place to eat.
Dylan Rawline
By far the best place for people in the service industry that is open late nights until the wee early morning. Also great to take a break from Harrah's right around the corner. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. One of the places I miss going in New Orleans on a regular basis.
David Sylvia
Ernst Cafe, has some awesome burgers, n the wait staff is the best I've seen in a while, I would recommend Ernst Cafe to all of my friends
Dolores Droba Rosales
Ordered Jambalaya only had 3 to 5 pieces of meat in it. Manager would not even come to table. Gave waitress a small condiments cup to give us with maybe 10 small diced pieces
Marcella Hatch
Excellent gumbo! Great outdoor space and atmosphere and Jamie was a fabulous server. Loved just hanging out.
Connie L. Tucker
Good food, good service!! Looks like a dive and maybe it is, but the food was great!!
Margie Lee Music-Kahre
Ariel was the sweetest bartender. We were stoppinf for one beer but stayed and had the best boudin ever. We will tell our friends that this is a must.
Kerry Hanko
Great lunch at a little place on Magazine. One of the best meals all weekend....and a lot less expensive. Our waiter Barry was awesome!
Jennifer Marie
Stumbled on this place looking for lunch. I was initially worried since they were much slower than some of the other restaurants in the area but we were pleasantly surprised. The waitress (Jennifer) was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She made wonderful suggestions, almost knowing what we were looking for. The food was spectacular. We ordered 4 different appetizers within our group. All was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The prices were very reasonable, in fact, less than I expected. Will definitely be back next time we're in New Orleans!
Marie Justice
The place never served us. And they had the audacity to charge us for drinks! A bad place to go!

Found this gem while at the convention center. Crawfish Etouffe to die for. Red beans and rice were rich and smokey. Amazing bread pudding, enough for two to share
Annette Bryant-Charles
Food was very good and our server was amazing. She took on a party of 11 with no problem.

It was a Sunday night but there were tables taken inside and outside so it wasn’t a slow evening. The manager and bar tender had to wait tables so service was slow. We opted to get drinks ourselves many times because a waitress was no where to be found. The “manager” told us she knew nothing about the kitchen, nothing about the point of sale system, and nothing about bar tending. I’m not real sure what she was “managing”. She was nice but running from one end to another because they were totally understaffed. Because of all of this I kept my ordering simple. Burger and fries. It took a long time but it looked good. It’s NOLA, for god sake season your food when you are cooking! People go to NOLA expecting good food and you give me bland sad beef on a bun. The waffle fries were great though. Not an all around bad place, just poorly managed.

We ordered almost an hour ago and have not received our food yet. Kitchen is obviously overwhelmed. The waitress is very friendly and apologetic but really, this is ridiculous. Don’t eat here when a conference is going on across the street.
Leon
Great food and service! I had the Ernst, and my wife had the shrimp Po' boy, both good, as well as the rice and beans. The Boudin balls as an app are highly recommended by us! Our server Jennifer was very attentive without being overbearing. She gave great recommendations and answered our questions about the menu very well. Great experience.
Frank Trivett
Great good for a great price! The blacken catfish was cooked just the way I like. Price can't be beat for the area. It's not super special on setting or service but the food and price make it so worth it. If your staying at a hotel nearby call your order in to pick up and you will be glad you did.
Leochick
Not sure what people see in this place, but I had a blackened shrimp po-boy and it was not cooked all the way. I will never eat here again
Jennifer N Keith Stone
Very good food.
Ashley
NASTY!. The food was horrible and it was made even worst by the waitress that was unhappy with her job that kept screaming the F word & GD about how she wasn't going to roll silverware! Oh yeah it took forever to get the nasty food!
Flerpi
Blackened Seafood. Not many places offer blackened seafood as an option in New Orleans, and even fewer places do actual blackened seafood instead of just burning it and calling it blackened. Ernst has blackened seafood that seems to be cooked and seasoned correctly. I won't go so far as to call it gourmet or ground-breaking, but it was yummy. My table also had the crawfish monica, which was rich, filling, and tasty. Our server was attentive, and our overall experience was good.
Bo Brim
Nice place for a drink and gumbo! Not overthetop great but good and at a reasonable price.

Ernster is outstanding.

My wife and I were recently in NO on a 3 day trip. We ate at Ernst twice because we enjoyed it do much. The roast beef po boy and The Ernst were delicious! We will definitely be eating here again on our next visit!

Great place , and tasty food.
Melissa Daigle
My favorite hangout. They're open 24/7, $2 happy hour, and the spinach salad with shrimp and pepper jelly is my favorite. If mike or ross are working the bar, you're in luck bc they're awesome.
Clark Griswold
Not a NOLA standout, but a decent beer list, okay gumbo, and good late night fried food
Katie Kean
Friendly waitress, quick service. Great crawfish étouffée and $3 Abita Strawberry.
Bigbelly
Not bad for basic pub food - redux.. The étouffée was pretty good - perfectly spiced and a decent sized portion. The French fries were also pretty good. They also have a few more microbrews than a lot of other paces. They were out of gumbo when I went - how does that happen? In an area full of high priced eateries, this isn't a bad choice to save a few bucks. Seems like a typical local bar where you could gather with a few friends.
Byron
Exceptional fried seafood. Definitely worth a try
Ed
Ate there last night (11-3-12) and the food was horrible. Chicken tenders over cooked-breading was mushy- seems the oil used for frying was old and needed to be changed. Grilled chicken was over cooked and dry. Chicken gumbo was very thick and tasteless.<br/>Save your money and find another place to eat.
Tim B
Show up at 9:30, was told kitchen was closing in about 20 minutes. Friend joined us 10 minutes later and was told kitchen closed. .
Charlcye Mitchell
Food was not good and the manager would have been better suited to waitressing at hooters, certainly not in any capacity that requires an intelligent responsible adult.
Kas
Had the shrimp po boy with side salad. Overall, food was fresh, but it wasn't anything special. Staff was nice, but I'm not sure if its worth the price.
Rich Carman
The staff is very friendly and attentive, the crawfish etufee was hot and very spicy, just like it should be.
Sergei
Gumbo was salty... what a disappointment
Igor Os
I'd rather eat at McDonald's. Everything's oversalted. The only cafe in the world without coffee.
Apb
Good quick lunch, while at the convention center. The gumbo was nice.
Monteb123
Ernst cafe has the cheapest drinks on Fulton Street and the staff is amazing!
Susie
If you don't like Ernst cafe your CRAZY
Ray Cannata
Since 1902; not bad for basic pub food. Neighborhood Cafe for 107 years (founded 1902). Salads, fried seafood platters and po boys all $9-13. Very basic menu. Pretty cool spot with cobblestone streets in Warehouse District. Thought the food was above average for pub fare. The buffalo shrimp salad ($13 in 09 at dinner) was decent: Large portion, and the buffalo sauce was actually orange in color, buffalo-y in flavor, and hot. But they didn't de-vein the jumbo fried shrimp in it, and the bleu cheese dressing was packaged. Fries were beefy and well-seasoned. Mostly a bar, so kids need to eat on the ample sidewalk patio seating. Liked the mosaic in front of the restaurant. 9/09.
