Some very tasty grub here. They make one of the best cornbread dressings I have ever had. If you are lucky enough to go when the chicken fried steak is on the specials menu get it and you won’t be disappointed!

For those of you who don't know, this place was on Triple D (Diners Drive-ins and Dives), but it was a thanksgiving episode. They have much more to offer than what's on tv. Food is excellent! Get there for about 11am to beat the lunch rush, it gets packed about 11:30 usually. Yes sometimes they take a few to get your order to you, that's because everything they make has a little bit of love in it...ha! Enjoy!

Great place with delicious food! You can't go wrong with the gumbo or any of the po-boys. It's a go to of mine anytime I'm in NOLA. Check it out!

Flavorful Roast Beef. This one was enjoyable despite the very hard bread, and is the most tender of the sliced variety. Love the place, and will be back.

Yummmmieee.... This is the place to stuff your face and pay for it later. The pain is worth it. The stuffed shrimp, pork roast, poboys... oh-me-oh-my!!!! Long lines at lunch time, but this food is as good and New Orleans as it gets!

Great place for lunch. I've stopped in several times when I'm in the neighborhood. Recently had the Crawfish Monica AWESOME!!! The red beans, pork chops, stuffed bell pepper have all been good. Remember this is a walk up to the counter and order place. It's usually packed at lunch so just prepare.

Better than it has to be!. This place is definitely in my Nola top 10. Everything's great here. Fresh and homemade. I never pass up the mirliton seafood soup or the okra and shrimp stew both of which are full of fresh seafood and very rich. I always get the mustard greens which are pleasantly bitter and full of lean smoked pork. The only side I don't like are the carrots which are those weird baby carrots in a slimy sugar sauce. Deserts are diner style but better -- sometimes with homemade strawberry sauce. If you go during lunch rush you have to wait in line but it's always an amazing slice of New Orleans, more varied and integrated than just about any place in town. And if you go after 2pm you can have the place almost to yourself. (NOTE TO SAMMY'S YOU MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL BY YOUR REFUSAL TO SERVE FREE WATER -- IF YOU WERE NOT AS GOOD AS YOU ARE I'D BOYCOTT YOU FOR THIS REASON.)

Their homemade hot sausage po boy was pretty good, a different flavor than I am used to. Also they have daily specials and hot plate lunches, however, one gripe. Girl at counter didn't advise of extra charge to have it dressed, I didn't realize this until after she rang me up and I was waiting for my food. I showed her that the menu doesn't state that and advised her to let management know that it should me added to the menu, especially since most restaurants don't charge and the ones that do advertise that it costs extra. Also, this place offers free wifi but the girl at the counter didn't seem to know the password.
Pros: Good food. Cons: Parking not ample.

No Brainer.... I've been to Sammy's several times. I think that they, hands down, have the best brussel sprouts I've ever tasted! I had a veggie plate with mac n' cheese. Wonderful. They don't have the sprouts always, but if they have them, try them. You'll be pleasantly surprised, and glad you did.

Love the food! I usually get the trout and shrimp plate, but recently went in for breakfast the club omelette was delicious. The grits were too runny but overall great food. Line is always long but the great food is the reason.

Get Your Money's Worth. I think the selection is great and you have such a diverse menu to choose from....and extremely generous portions. Plan to leave with a doggie bag. I love the roast beef po-boys and plates!! Lotza garlic!! The salads are huge, delicious and reasonably priced. I have not had a bad meal there....you will wait, but it's well worth it.

Better than it looks. In hood, but clean and pleasantly appointed if soulless. Decent parking, but crowded. Good gumbo. Stuffed fried jumbo shrimp for lunch ($11 w/ 2 sides) are good, but rich. I could only eat 3 of the 5. Fries are perfect: thick, hearty, slightly crispy, lightly seasoned. Cornbread dressing side is small but brilliant and savory, with bits of turkey in it.

My favorite place for lunch on the way to the University of New Orleans from Jackson Square. This is one of the best soulfood locations in the city. They have all the local favorites at reasonable prices. This is worth the drive for lunch time.

Always a good idea to get Sammy's, but today they gave me this monster of a Ray Ray (half of the 10 inch). I wish i would have taken a picture of the full thing; it was thicker than my bicep. Even when I was 25 lbs heavier a year ago, I wouldn't have been able to finish this thing. Talk about a good problem to have!

Sammys is an excellent restaurant, fully deserving its popularity. The wait staff are friendly, the dining area is clean and well organized, and every menu item hits the spot. This being said, the Kickin’ Chicken Special offered right now might actually be the best meal I have ever had. I am 3/4 of the way through and had to stop to write this review because I am so blown away by how delicious it is. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Two lunch visits this week while in town and this place did not disappoint! Monday I had the ole roast beef poboy and it took every napkin they gave me to eat it! Good sign of a good RB poboy! Thursday I tried the bbq brisket plate with 2 sides and it was jam packed full. Brisket was plentiful and delicious as well as the sides! Call in order or wait in line, you won't be disappointed.

The food is freshly cooked to perfection. The staff was extremely pleasant, and professional. This place will give restaurants on Bourbon street a run for its money! My mouth is watering just writing this review. The prices are reasonable, due to being served more than what you've paid for. I can't wait to go back!

Omg!!! This place is so good!! We ate here for lunch after our rum tour. (Rum tour was fun as well) we really didn’t know what we wanted because everything we read sounded so good!! So we end up getting a po boy the Ray Ray!! Ask for extra pickles if you like pickles!! This sandwich was amazing!! Then when it was time to go home we got a hot sausage po boy!! Jesus take the wheel!! Food great and customer service bomb!!

A must visit lunch spot. Easy Uber/Lyft. Great place to get very New Orleans food for a great value. You can't go wrong with any of it. My favorite is the chicken fried pork chop with gravy and two sides. Bigger than the plate for like $12... The Ray Ray poboy is legendary.

This place is great!! My family and I live in Florida and whenever we take road trips we stop here even when it's out of our route, because everything they serve is good. The Ray Ray Po boy sandwich is an experience you have to try. I call it an experience because after eating one, it'll change your life, at least as it pertains to food. LOL. It's truly an amazing tasting po boy, best I've ever had, and I've been around. I give Sammy's my official approval. As my wife likes to say, "they verified ". Enjoy the Ray RAY. I know I always do!

I’ve been coming to Sammy’s for 5 years now. Part of the charm is that it’s in the middle of industrial buildings and freeway entrance. Meaning it’s not a very charming place at all. But once you get inside, it’s pure New Orleans in food, friendliness and clientele. Sometimes Rough, sure, but it ain’t personal. And you will hear Dr. John spoke here. Accents. Sammy’s offers fountain drinks mostly but some bottles and a few desserts are available. Think Keylime pie, pecan pie. If there are big lines they move quickly. The tables are cleaned led by staff but staff is busy you may need to lend a hand. there are only about 10, 12 tables to be had. It’s becoming harder and harder to find authentic food in New Orleans that is not too precious and PrePaired just for the tourist dollar. But part of what makes homemade delicious is that it’s not always ..consistent. The cook has feelings. Sammy’s might be a dive next to the freeway but the folks back in the kitchen aren’t making real food. Sammy’s has wonderful trout/fish almandine that rivals Medinas on Canal. The poor boys are great, The burger is good, the gravy is Yum. Also they make real fried chicken - not just fried chicken tenders . Very hard to find real fried chicken at a sit down place in New Orleans. A very Good Cobb -. They serve the lighter side fare meaning food that is not fried! big salads, turkey sandwiches. But you can get a salad or turkey sandwich most places - you come to Sammys for real (fat) New Orleans food. We have never had a bad meal or an unpleasant experience at Sammy’s.

I always pass by this place and they always seem super busy. I passed by today to check it out. And the inside is definitely not what you expect when looking at the building while passing by. I ordered the shrimp poboy and when I got it I was extremely surprised at how fresh the shrimp and veggies look! (It shows that they constantly maintain their oil and batter) The bread was a little to chewy, but that might have been because that was part of their last few days old batch... the price is steep being $15 for 1 shrimp poboy. But other than that the poboy was good. The staff needs to do a better job of cleaning since there was trash everywhere and the tables were all full of dirty plates. I would go back to try another dish but not for a $15 poboy.
