Interesting neighborhood hangout.
It feels like that, with the vibe coming from the unadorned tables (both inside and out), groups of folks hanging out, and the gambling machines in the corner.
But the cooking is excellent, more fitting for a upscale restaurant. Thank you, we really enjoyed the red fish. Maybe serve more than three asparagus?

A friend told me about this restaurant. Beautiful paintings inside & I loved the warm & welcoming energy of the bartender & our waitress. Great service! We ordered the Bayou Oysters with spinach & parmesan. They are to die for! And that sauce, we were scooping it up with our bread. Make sure you order that!
I ordered the New Orleans Classic which is red beans & rice with a fried pork chop. The chop was fried super nice, seasoned well, but it was thin. I prefer mines to be thicker. I ordered a bread pudding for dessert to take home & wish I had asked for more sauce. Lol! It was delicious! I would definitely go back & try something else on the menu. Except for the Bayou Oyster & bread pudding since I would order that again!
I also ordered a drink & though cannot recall exactly what it was, the drinks were good!
Stopped in for snacks and a bit of AC to escape the hot day of home fest! And a welcome surprise as it is said unfussy seafood and drinks. The owners -husband and wife stopped in several times to check on us and the service we received. I love the family atmosphere of the staff. The wings were good but the oysters better. Stop here for a visit!
The drinks were great, the food is delicious and the staff & owner are welcoming! Love the atmosphere! I highly recommend the creole seafood gumbo, and the crab cakes just melt in your mouth.

Quiet, friendly, fairly fast, DELICIOUS FOOD. Costumers and workers were all super friendly. The wings are 10/10. Fries are 10/10. Red beans and rice 10/10. Mac and cheese 10/10. Deajia 10/10
Straight up flavor. Had the BBQ oysters plus red beans and were just great. If you're going to Jazz Fest, eat here instead.

If you live in New Orleans and you have not been to this restaurant, shame on you! It is hands-down one of the best restaurants I’ve visited. Please do yourself a favor and order a red beans and rice to go! If you have any questions about what to order please ask Taasha! We enjoyed our experience here and will definitely come back!

This was the first time I had oyster shells and they were amazing!! I got the charbroiled parmesan oysters and the flavors were full bodied and smokey
Amazing atmosphere and very nice staff. The food is amazing! I particularly LOVE the oysters chargrilled and fried. The owner Mark is genuinely a great man that will have you laughing your entire visit. The back patio is beautifully decorated. It's a must you stop here if at least for a drink.
Delicious food and great service. Definitely will be returning to this establishment because I couldn't get enough of it.
Visited Half Shell on my first day visiting NO and I had a blast!! The atmosphere was amazing, and so welcoming. I was at the bar eating alone and the owner started a friendly conversation with me. He/they made me feel less alone in this city and like a real friend. The food was great and the drinks were just right. Can't wait to go back!!
