Reviews Winfield's Restaurant

Significantly better food than most other restaurants in the area. It’s nice, but not “fancy” or pretentious. Worth a visit if you’re tired of the many laid back, ultra-casual spots. The menu features a lot of seafood, and I had the swordfish. It was one of the most masterfully cooked pieces of fish I’ve ever had, which is even more impressive for such a lean cut. For dessert, our table split both the bread pudding and shortcake; both of which were incredibly underwhelming and not worth ordering. As for drinks, the cocktail I had (the paper plane) was not strained at all, though I doubt it would have been much better if it had been. Service was excellent and without fault throughout our dinner. No issues there. Despite these small missteps, I still recommend it. Steer clear of the cocktails and desserts and you’ll have a great time.

Excellent dinner that featured some of the best fish we have ever had. The flavor was incredible with a fine balance of complementing the fish but not overpowering. Although they were out of blackberries for one of the cocktails we wanted the bartender made a drink that was similar and flavorful. The service was prompt and friendly.

Listen I’m honest.... I’ve never thought twice about lobster Mac and cheese.... always overrated until tonight. It turns out every place else makes it wrong... this was pure fire! Incredible. Fresh bread comes to the table with a roasted clove of garlic and cheese. Wonderful. I know my filet mignon, and it with the cheddar cheese au gratin was unreal, but since my wife and I always split our entree (to my benefit) the swordfish with the cheddar polenta was equally ridiculous. Despite the clueless, but sweet, waitress and the awfully made drink (lemon basil smash.... too sweet).... this meal was incredible. Not cheap but really really really freakin good food!

Review 2022: see review below - this place is certainly a must while you visit BI and in the top 3 restaurants on the island as of 2022. From what I understand there is a new chef who is putting his spin on some dishes which is great - complacency is a horrible thing - however there seem to be some evolution pumps with some dishes - again in the top 3 for restaurants on the island. Highly recommend. Review reflecting many years prior to 2021: Every time my wife and I head to Block Island we make a reservation at Winfield’s. This place has held the title, in our world, as our favorite restaurant in Block Island for years. In the photos below you can see the lobster mac and cheese and the tuna tartare apps and then you see the cod main along with the pork meatloaf. Amazing!

Came into Winfield’s on 7/31 for dinner at the bar. Martinis were on point and service was prompt and professional. But oh my goodness the food! We got the scallops and tuna tartare. The scallops in corn chowder in particular were heaven on earth - props to whoever developed that delicious concoction. For dinner, I had the filet. Admittedly, I am a bit of a snob about my steaks - I always order medium rare and at other places it typically comes out medium. But not here - this steak was cooked to perfection! It was like butter - possibly the best cooked steak I have ever had. For someone to be able to cook the filet so perfectly in such a large establishment where only a few lost seconds can lead to it being over cooked is impressive. There are lots of other great places on the island, but might need to come back and have the scallops and steak one more time before I leave.

Out of staters from the New York Metro area visiting the Island for 3 days and Winfields was hands down the best. We had 4 meals between the 2 of us and all were spot on. Fish was excellent and pork chop perfect. Service great and attentive, salads fresh and drinks well done. No question this is a must go to place for those with an educative pallet.

A solid experience on an island full of over priced restaurants. Delicious drinks & food and the outside patio is great to start off the evening with light live music.

The roasted garlic cloves with the bread were the best thing I've had in a long time. The food was also amazing. 5 stars is simply not enough for this restaurant.

Excellent food. Professional but homey service. Spaces that allow either a quiet intimate night out and a highly social experience of the Island community.

It has been almost 4 years, but we cannot stop thinking about the Winfield salad. It was so good that we ordered a second one. So good that we talk about it every time we order a salad at a restaurant, even four years later. Everything else was excellent too

The service was great and the food was delicious. I started with the ceviche, which was top notch and very fresh. Then I tried some of the gazpacho and was very delighted with the combination of tomatoes and watermelon! Lastly, I ordered the cod for my entree and it was above and beyond tasty. The broth that the cod came with was amazing and the bonus was dipping the bread with garlic in the broth.

This place is one of the best restaurants on Block Island! It is pricey but it's worth every penny. Mouth watering filet and the potatoes are amazing as well. The fish dishes are very fresh and tasty!

Great food, favorite place I went to on the island. The waiter was amazingly nice, she accidentally put in swordfish instead of the pork chop, and she let me keep the swordfish so it didn't get wasted. The roasted garlic in olive oil was so tasty!
