Very interesting flavors

We love trying gelato everywhere. This was our first time in this rather large gelato shop. apparently, the space is needed because it gets packed, but it was a reasonable number of customers when we stopped by in the afternoon. The staff is friendly with efficient service. There were flavors ranging from the herbal, lemon verbena, basil and others to fruits as well as sweeter versions - something for everyone. Worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Best gelato I've had outside of Europe. I'm super indecisive, so I had to order 3 flavours. The mascarpone was by far the best... absolutely fantastic. The dark chocolate was phenomenal as well. My go-to flavour, dulce de leche, was a little underwhelming, but not bad. Overall, highly recommend!

The ice creams and sorbets produced at Il Laboratorio del Gelato are superb. This large gelateria is located in the Lower East Side and has over two hundred flavors. My favorites are amaretto crunch, prune Armagnac and grapefruit hibiscus. Jon Snyder started this gelateria in 2002 in a tiny Orchard Street location and then moved to this larger space. He is a master at producing first-rate ice creams and had started Ciao Bella years ago which is so well known that one can find it even at the local bodega. Il Lab also makes custom flavors for restaurants that don't produce their own ice creams.

Every time I go to the LES, I make a detour so that I can have a cone. It is worth it. You should go too!

If looking for a place for that gelato craving. With the assorted array of flavours of both gelato and sorbets, this place is sure to satisfy the sweet tooth of even the most ardent gelato lovers. The best part is that the flavours keep rotating so you get a new selection on each visit and create some wacky combinations but the end result will always be delectable.

The amount of available flavors was impressive but the taste of the sorbet I had was so light and so fresh. I had pear and grape and they were both wonderful!!

Doesn't compare to gelato in Italy, but the innovative flavours makes it worth a trip. Had the earl grey and peanut butter which were great. Cucumber is very refreshing. Nice that they allow you to sample flavours before selecting. Packed weekend evenings.

Gelato. Good assortment of flavors and price is pretty good for the quality. $6.50 for 4 scoops. had seen a place earlier that was charging $8.50 for a large which was smaller than this one.

New on the Must Visit list. Just tried it for the first time last Saturday and now I'll be stopping every time I'm in NYC. I had a scoop of Banana and a scoop of Cheddar Cheese (yes, an odd combo but I had my reasons). Very flavorful. A bit more toward ice cream than what I had in Italy, but not in a bad way. My wife had the Green Apple sorbet and loved it. Lots of odd flavors and the option to get two flavors.

Delicious flavors. Delicious chestnut and fig flavors, but the staff was horribly smug and unkind the night I visited. I definitely left feeling like the taste of the delicious gelato was marred as a result.

Seriously Good!. This has been on my "to-do" list for several visits to the Big Apple. Finally made a plan to enjoy some gelato after lunch at a nearby restaurant. I had the lychee sorbet and the champagne sorbet. The lychee was fab and fruity. The champagne was just like drinking champagne (and of this I speak with great experience). My friend and I were both amazed at how much it tasted like champagne. I think I might have even managed a little afternoon buzz thanks to my yummy treat. The only thing that would have made it better was a hot summer day when I would have probably gone with a large instead of a small so that I could add even more flavors.

My Favorite NYC Gelato. Wow, this place is good! I rarely give such enthusiastic praise, especially to hole in the walls, but these folks have earned and certainly deserve every last bit.

First if all, they don't charge you five bucks for a small scoop like Grom does, they charge three bucks for a small scoop. The line, when there is one, is not so long and moves quickly too. Also, you can get two different flavors in a small, three in a medium, etc...

As for the gelatos, I've tried the Guinness, green tea, pistachio and ricotta. Also tried the lychee and pineapple sorbets. Guinness was weird - kind of dark, smoky first impression with an aftertaste of (sorry, I have to say it!) stale beer. Don't know if I'd get that again!

The pistachio was really terrific - nut colored with the flavor of roasted pistachio delightfully pronounced. The ricotta was incredible! Reminded me of a cross between taro and a really good vanilla and VERY rich! That was my favorite. I have yet to try the rosemary/pink peppercorn.

In the sorbet department, the pineapple was the best to the point of being out of this world! Tasted even better than an actual fresh pineapple and had just the right consistency for a sorbet too. The intense sweetness of it was perfectly balanced out by its equally intense acidity. I'm drooling on the keyboard just writing about it.

Tiny place with friendly, efficient employees manning the counter. I must be turning into The Terminator because definitely, "Ahh'll be bock!".

Outstanding gelato. Fabulous gelato served from a pint-sized storefront. Creamy and luscious, Il Laboratorio rivals gelaterias I've visited in Italy. The flavors are inventive. Worth the wait, if there is a line. Toasted Almond and Creme Fraiche are standouts.

our awesome friend, lauren recommended that we stop by her favorite gelato shop, il laboratorio del gelato (near katz’s).  after trying a few samples, we decided to get a scoop of the amaretto crunch and blackberry. bomb. so bomb.  amaretto crunch is so delicious.  we got the blackberry since we thought it was a nice balance between creamy and tart. ice cream :  scoops are on the smaller side… but still worth it in my opinion. get the amaretto crunch. you will not regret it. ambience: very open space.  white walls accented with orange and blue.  large windows with lots of natural light.  limited seating along the windows. service:  staff is good.  during peak times, you have to grab a number and wait to be called.  they are pretty efficient at servicing people even though everyone is trying to sample different flavors. overall:  great gelato.  we will be coming back, fo sho.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend the insanely delicious & extremely accurate flavor representation of the gelato here! Each flavor I had was spot on and with all of the gelato I've had in my lifetime, I don't think any of them could hit the nail on the head as accurately as they did here! Awesome staff and an exciting and unique array of homemade sweets---how could you possibly go wrong? Have lunch/dinner at Katz's then walk next store for gelato here, it's the second BEST combination you could possibly have other than spaghetti and meatballs!

Eaten by han Ever since tasting the brilliant flavors of Cafe del Hidalgo in St. Augustine, FL, I have been on a perpetual search for divine gelato in New York.  The search brought me to Il Laboratorio del Gelato on Sunday.  The weather was cold and damp that day--the perfect setting for an outdoor stroll and a cup of ice cream. The potential for Il Laboratorio was high: 1. Located on the Lower East Side, where all my beloveds are, dangerously close to Doughnut Plant for a one-two calorie punch! 2. The ridiculous list of flavors  including Mexican cinnamon, Thai chili chocolate, wasabi and more.  Ree-dic-u-lous!! Il Laboratorio has a small storefront on Orchard and Delancey.  You cannot see the flavors until you are right at the window, and they feature 10 flavors each for gelato and sorbet.

The real highlight was the basil and earl grey gelato. They were phenomenal, I wish I had a gallon of each. I was surprised by the basil which was cool, creamy and the sweet basil flavour was so prominent but it was just heaven. The earl grey was also fantastic. Highly recommended!

If you're sick of being stuck with chocolate and vanilla choices, Snyder has a riotous journey of flavours here. Basil, cheddar cheese, lavender, malt, mastic, prune armagnac and sweet potato beckon from the gelato rainbow. Sorbets might include blackberry with port, celery, cucumber, concord grape and kalamansi.

Gelato is something I’ve just found in the last couple years and I savor every experience I get with it. This one was no different. It was delicious and worth the train ride to the Lower East Side.

The avocado gelato at Il Laboratorio del Gelato Sometimes the food is about more than just the food. Flavor is a factor, of course, but given food experience is also influenced by the ambiance, the price, the service, the level of love involved in the ope

Back in the late 1980s, before the arrival of its boutique hotels and other conspicuous excesses, I worked in Manhattan's SoHo district. On hot afternoons, I'd often stroll to a tiny place on Broome Street for a gelato or sorbet. The flavors were hit-and-

Brilliant scoop shop with tons of flavors and sorbet as well. Everything was so delicious, one of the best ice cream shops in nyc. Come early as popular flavors sell out quick. Our favorites were the hazelnut and amaretto cookie flavors

The flavor selection here is unparalleled! I have had the gelatos and sorbets alike and they are all amazing. They have super unique flavors that are fun to mix and match with originals. The workers are always nice. My only note is I wish they still did samples but I still give them 5 stars!

Simply the best pistachio ice cream we have ever eaten! They have so many flavors (and unique ones!) that it gets hard to decide what to have. Ultimately, besides pistachio, we tried mascarpone, peanut butter, and chocolate chip vanilla. They were all good, but the peanut butter also stood out, followed by the mascarpone one. The chocolate chip vanilla was our least favorite of the four but still good.

the best gelato i’ve ever had! they are all super light and i can finish 2 scoops easy. we had brown butter (light), dark chocolate (very thick, almost like chocolate fudge, loved it) black sesame (very strong sesame flavor) turkish coffee (the spice prolly like cardamom has a stronger kick than the coffee flavor) avocado (very strong avocado flavor and smooth, can never imagine an avocado gelato, but they pulled off well) will come back again 100%!

It is no coincidence that this establishment works with the best chefs in NYC. I have been to Italy many times and I can tell the ice creams and sorbets from the laboratorio taste BETTER than in Italy ! I’m speechless. Sincere congratulazioni per l'eccellente lavoro svolto 🤩

Gelato shop known for their unique and interesting flavors. Cucumber’s my personal favorite, followed by mastic. They have hundreds of flavors but will only have around four dozen (edited, thanks for the correction) available in the store at any given time.

Katz’s is famous for their sandwiches. Not so much for their desserts. I don’t even know if they have any… But in front of Katz’s there’s a super weird venue that sells ice creams. It’s called Il laboratorio del gelato. It’s like the weirdest ice cream shop ever as it actualy looks more like a warehouse than a store. But they sell ice cream… very good ice cream. And lots of flavors. I think I counted 40 flavors… and the clerk told me they have more! The taste is fine, the texture is perfect, the cream does not melt immediately and… it’s not expensive at all: we paid $8 for 4 big scoops in a waffle. The perfect dessert after a perfect lunch at Katz’s. Note: you can eat your ice cream inside but don’t expect anything better than a bench against the window… if they worked on the atmosphere, they could get very close to perfection. Quality & taste: 10/10 Quantities: 9/10 Atmosphere: 1/10 Originality: 10/10 Ratio price / quality: 10/10 Service: 10/10 How I felt afterwards: 9/10 More on IG @runnerandfoodie

There are so many flavours!!! The concept of this gelato lab is amazing. You can tell by the variety of interesting flavours they do try to create new out of the box, good tasting flavours in their lab. The quality of the gelato is really nice too. Asides from gelato, you can make your milkshakes and affogatos and get drinks as well.

There is no Gelato in the city that beats il laboratorio del gelato. They have so many wild flavors to choose from. It makes you feel adventurous for trying flavors like corn or vanilla saffron. If you go here, try something new that you haven't had before as gelato. You won't be disappointed. No matter how crazy the flavor was, we enjoyed it all! Our go-to is the rosemary gelato. Something about that herbal flavor is just so delightful.

Amazing gelato and sorbet at a great price, with a mind-blowing 40± options (including many vegan ones) to choose from. A great way to cool off on a summer day. I had 4 flavors and in all of them the flavor stood out very well, with most having a mild sweetness. The gelato texture was also good. I liked the cucumber and Turkish fig the most.

Came upon this place through a Free Tours by Foot Lower East Side Food Tour (which I highly recommend!). Their pineapple sorbet was fantastic! So good that 2 days later I had to bring my son back by before we left NYC to try. He loved the vanilla & lemon. They offer over 60 flavors and their customer service was top notch! Next time I’m in NYC I’ll def hot this place up again. So good!

This place gets so busy but the ice cream is great, next time I’m getting a bigger size. The number of flavors they make is astounding, and the gelato itself is high quality. I highly recommend their LES and Montclair, NJ locations!
