We made a reservation for 5 pm and a great culinary experience started shortly after.
Our order: octopus, tuna crude, 4 types of oysters, fried calamari, lobster tacos and total of five flutes of sparkling wine.
Food: very fresh, tasty, nicely presented, oysters could have not tasted better, calamari and octopus cooked to perfection.
Service: very professional, attentive without pressing us to pay the bill.
Overall: highly recommended !
Love their Monday hAppy hour! $1 oysters and clams plus amazing appetizers for under $5 all day! Love their shrimp corndogs and fried oysters! Service was great but definitely think they need to switch up their drink menu. Very watered down and lacking any unique qualities; the sangria is just too sweet and nothing else. Next time I will probably just stuck to their wines and beers. Overall the happy hour bites are definitely worth it, especially the oysters!
Awesome awesome stop. Their oysters were fresh as delicious and I really enjoyed their sauces. We also got a delicious salad but I wouldn't recommend the corn croquettes - not very good :(
I’m a fan of the Mermaid Oyster Bar. The restaurant was buzzing when I arrived and it seemed like everyone was having a good time. On top of that, the food was delicious, the service was quick and friendly, and they gave you a delicious complimentary dessert. I definitely will be back to the Oyster Bar but can’t wait to give the Mermaid Inn restaurants a try as well.
This year I surprised The Mr. with tickets to see Demetri Martin for Valentine's Day. Before the show we headed over to Mermaid Oyster Bar for our romantic date. They actually have a really great selection of beers on tap, but considering it was a fancy night out, we decided to plunge in and order some cocktails. We're suckers for shishito peppers even if they are tragically trendy right now, so weren't going to miss out on them. It's hard to see, but the lemon has one of those mini lemon nets on it which prevents the seeds from squirting all over your food. A small touch of fancy I particularly enjoyed.
When two of my favorite ladies invited me to an oyster dinner, how could I resist? Okay, I may have Twitter-bullied them into this meal, but it was worth it. After all, we were dining at Mermaid Oyster Bar . This small west village urban fish shack has a bustling bar up front, a few booths in back and a larger back room with more seating. Casual and friendly, it is also wall to wall with people. When I arrived at 7 pm, there was not a single seat to be had. The cracker served in the beginning was more than just a flatbread - covered with nutty sesame seeds, vibrant garlic, and plenty of salt and pepper, it was a total appetite whetter. Restaurants need to remember that the first bit we put in our mouths - even if it is an unassuming piece of bread - sets the tone for the meal.
I first found out about the Mermaid Oyster Bar last November, and immediately jotted down in my notes to visit.
I love oysters and seafood and that’s the place to be especially for happy hour $1.50 a piece. We also got spinach and artichoke dip taste good very little size but guess it’s good for price just crackers they should go a little bit heavier just not enough even for that small portion. Special New England clam chowder it says min but I didn’t think it’s actually just a tablespoon. Server was very attentive and fast that’s always a plus.
Cute place for oysters and a nice happy hour. To note, all of the happy hour items are super small portions…. Delicious clam chowder in a tiny cup. It was very nice they brought out a tiny pudding cup at the end for a small dessert
Went here for Happy Hour! Really fun place to hangout with friends! $9 wines in the city, pretty good. Love the kale Caesar salad and their mini fish tacos, delish!
I visited Mermaid Oyster Bar and tried their happy hour oysters, which cost $1.5 each (minimum 6 per order). They were neither the best nor the worst oysters I've had, just average but satisfied my craving.
I also ordered the baby clam chowder, but I found the portion to be extremely small, and it leaned on the salty side. Also got the calamari and the prawn sliders which were both alright. The next time I go back, I'll probably just get oysters.
On a positive note, the service was quite good and attentive, which added to the overall experience.
The outdoor seating was beautiful, the happy hour oysters were a great deal and delicious, but the server and host was not very welcoming. I felt that one they realized only 1 of us was going to order a drink the attentiveness just went out the window. I am not too beat up over it though, I got what I came for; a quick bite and 1 drink. The oyster were fresh and delicious, no arguments there. If you want to get in and get out quick for oysters, get over here!
Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the place was at full capacity. You definitely need a reservation. The food and service were great. We got oysters, the calamari salad and the sea bass. I recommend all three. Lastly, we got complementary chocolate pudding at the end and even though I wasn’t intending to eat anything sweet that night, I finished the whole thing 😅 overall, great experience here. I will be back!
This was a great spot for happy hour. They have a fantastic assortment of oysters. The shrimp silders were excellent and my favorite part of my meal. The spinach and artichoke dip was excellent. It's not over creamy and bursting with flavor. The mini fish tacos 🌮 were also excellent.
We are regulars and love this restaurant. The food is delicious, freshest oysters and clams for best price in the city. Jason and his staff are the greatest. Will be there right after Thanksgiving, only because we’re going away before.
Came for happy hour. $1.5 for each oyster and clam! Such a great deal! We did found a piece of paper in one of the oysters. Cocktails and beer are just average though. Love their birthday chocolate pudding ^
This lobster roll was fantastic! I was traveling for work, so unfortunately my husband wasn’t with me, but I’ll say that we have been influenced by Old Bay on French fries after this restaurant. Can’t wait to go back and eat oysters when I’m not pregnant anymore because those looked great too!
Great atmosphere, excellent waitstaff, would have given 5 stars on food but the Oysters were very, very small, which was surprised since it’s advertised as an “Oyster Bar”. Overall we enjoyed our time and meal there.
Don't hate. Shell-ebrate! Yummy oysters, roasted peppers, and cocktails! With a reservation on a Friday afternoon, my group of 3 shared and enjoyed several happy hour apps and drinks. I like my drinks a little spicy and my briny Hot & Dirty martini (mer-tini) perfectly fit the bill with vodka, olive juice, peppadew, and hot sauce. The Fried Calamari, Mini New England Clam Chowder, and Salmon Tartare were okay to pretty good but the Oysters and roasted Shishito Peppers dusted with sea salt and candied lemon were delish! After all this, we were full but our server kindly gave each of us a complementary chocolate mousse. Overall, a great spot to get your vitamin sea!
NOTES/TIPS:
**Excellent service.
**If no reservations are available online, try calling.
**We arrived 10 minutes early and the entire place was empty except for one table, but they wouldn't let us in until our exact reservation time.
**On the corner of MacDougal and Bleecker St.
**Wheelchair-accessible.
First time here, amazing. We had a reservation and the wait was longer than expected so they brought us complimentary drinks. The appetizers came out very fast. We got 9 oysters, the lobster, and the kale salad. All delicious. For entrees we got the tuna, pasta, and tacos. Again, delicious. Loved the mouse at the end as well. The waiter and staff were all so lovely and very attentive!
All is good,
Oyster is so good, we had hours salad lobster roll and cream with pasta. Enjoy the day sitting outside on Father’s Day.
Their happy hour certainly makes me happy! $1.5 per oyster $1.5 per little clam (with minimum order of six units of oyster/little clam) so I sure ate my fill. Had their octopus little plate, recommended by their bar tender. It was tender and honestly serves as a great light dinner but is totally shareable as an appetizer if you’re dining with others.
Their salmon tartar at happy hour is good but as I worked through it, I found it kind of salty… even if the bread crisps go well with it.
Service was amazing and it was the perfect place to chill and eat during happy hour. (Good for going alone or with company) I love that they give you a free small chocolate pudding at the end of the meal.
I did not order the mini clam chowder at happy hour because it was the same size if not smaller than an espresso cup.
4.3/5
Good ambiance and food! We arrived earlier than our reservation so they sat us at the bar, which was perfect.
We ordered the Lobster Fritters, Littleneck Clams, Old Bay Fries, Grilled Octopus Salad, and the Wedge Salad.
Our favourite was the grilled octopus as it was very flavourful and cooked perfectly. We’d order this again. Yum!
The other dishes were nothing special. The fritters didn’t taste much like lobster and were a bit doughy. The clams, fries, and wedge salad were what you would find anywhere else.
The service was good and it was a cozy place to hang out. We’d return to try some of their other dishes!
Favorite restaurant in NYC now! The oysters were so fresh and meaty, the NY steak was the juiciest NY steak I've tasted yet, and the butter shrimp tostada was out of this world!
Only con was that they were out of limoncello and I couldn't get the drink I wanted on the menu!
We went for the oyster happy hour, so it was crowded. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The oysters were amazing. The fried calamari sauce was a little salty, but everything tasted good. I am not usually big on spinach dip, but I liked this one with crab. It was a great meal with friendly and helpful staff.
