Fantastic service and the food was epic! Be advised... make a reservation this place is crazy busy. It’s a family style menu so the portions are massive!! A party of 4 could order the Caesar salad and shrimp scampi with pasta and the chicken
Parm and take food home! The only downside if I had to find one was the restroom requires more attention ... kinda nasty.
Carmine’s was recommended to me from several folks in my hometown of Gonzales La., also from locals....they did not disappoint, they delivered. I also loved that Frank Sinatra was playing...the atmosphere and ambiance was complete NYC/Italian....and of course the food was off the charts!! Thank you Carmine’s for being apart of my NYC experience!!!

While visiting NYC for our first visit we came to Carmine’s based on a recommendation from a close friend. And Carmine’s did not disappoint. When we arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation, the place was packed. The waiting area was beyond full, we were seated right on time though. Service was very prompt, professional and courteous.
We started with calamari and then crab linguini. All dishes are served family style and could easily feed 4-5 people. The food came quickly and everything was excellent. I finished with a bread pudding that could feed an army. I see why this is the 4th largest grossing restaurants in the US. Great experience and would love to come back someday.
I had such a wonderful experience here about 2 weeks ago. My BFF's family was in town so she arranged this dinner which I was invited to. She mentioned the reservationist was really pleasant and had heard the food was good. This restaurant is so comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. The food was delicious. The bread at the start was a focaccia and it was yummy. Caesar salad was really big, which we split 2 of amongst us. The meat lasagna was so terrific and fresh and one of us ordered the fried calamari, which was pretty much awesome. My main was the penne alavodka, which I absolutely loved.
Wonderful Italian food served family style. Great prices and amazing food in a good location. I HIGHLY recommend it! We don't go there as often as we used to, but we still visit fairly regularly.
Good for dinner with office colleagues. Always good to make a reservation before hand. They offer to pre-select the menu for larger groups in advance. I relished the eggplant parmesan, it was amazing!!!!
Super busy place. For the volume of business they do the quality of food, drinks, and service is good but if you are looking for a special culinary experience this is probably not the right place. On the other hand if you want to get the feeling of what Times Square is all about on new year's eve minus the cold, the rain, and the people pens then this place will surely do it. Go with the right attitude and the drive to have a good time and just ride the energy carpet. Enjoy!

While on an excursion for work to New York, we halted for dinner at Carmine's. They are an extremely mainstream put. You unquestionably will need to reserve a spot! We ate by the bar. Requested one plate of veal and shared it between us. They have worked there for a considerable length of time and give you the best administration. It is our go to put when in Manhattan.

Had several people recommend this restaurant before arriving. Extremely surprised of the quality considering the quantity of people this place serves. Literally some of the best Italian food I've eaten and massive portions for a reasonable price. My wife and I skipped lunch and had the lasagna for dinner. We ate a ton and there was still much left over. Staff was friendly, we were seated quick, and surprisingly got our food quickly. One of my favorite places to eat in Times Square.
MASSIVE SERVINGS! Make sure that you go HUNGRY! Our family of 6 visited Carmines, ordered two mains and a 'side' (more like massive main) of broccoli, and we could not finish it all. The actual pasta is super tasty, and I highly recommend the meatballs. It is a fun experience, but try to book as the restaurant gets super busy.
It's a good place to dine. The staff is courteous and efficient. The food is good. It's pack most of the time which gives you an idea that all these people couldn't be wrong.

Absolutely mouth watering and the Taste just linger in your palate even after you have have finished eating. My favourite is ravioli with cheese. But there spaghetti and salmon are the best not writing the names in the Italian version as it will be difficult to remember just look in the menu for spaghetti with baked salmon and you will know
They also have a great selection of wine to choose from.

Incredible restaurant! I went here with my family for the first time after my brother graduated college. We had heard a lot about Carmine's from multiple people and being from NY, it is a place that we had to check out. We knew it was Italian and we know good food because we are always out to eat almost every weekend. We were so pleasantly welcomed at Carmine's and immediately we felt at home! The service was impeccable and we were simply taken care of. We drank and ate so much food. The food was delicious and it all came out in a very timely manner. At the end, we got dessert and again, we were really impressed. Everything about this place feels extremely homey. I highly recommend it to anyone!

Was recommended highly by a friend. It’s the place to try Italian food on Times Square. Weekends is crazy, was told 1.30 hours wait, hence we ordered to go. The food is authentic and yummy and generous in helping. Unfortunately forgot to click pictures, love their meatball.
For the best New York Pizzas and white sauce pastas! Set up smack dab in the middle of Times Square, once you cross the 7th avenue/W44th intersection, the restaurant is on your left exactly opposite to the PlayStation Theater.

If the evening wasn’t magical enough after watching the Phatom of the Opera, it sure got a whole lot better at Carmine’s which is just stones throw away from the Majestic Theatre.
This family style diner which was jam packed on a Tuesday evening serves portions huge enough to feed a family of 6 so be very careful while placing your orders. The dimly lit yet vibrant ambience of the restaurant is enough to attract a variety of customers in - whether you’re out for a fun date or heading out for a family dinner, Carmine’s is your spot to dine.
I tried the Riganoti & Broccoli pasta along with a basket of their Home style bread. I was tempted to try their Garlic Bread but the portion size contains 9 huge slices which was too much for me to devour.
The pasta was well cooked in garlic sauce drizzled with Parmesan cheese and well cooked garlic gloves. Huge chunks of broccoli add to the taste and flavour of the dish. The home style bread comprised an assortment of different kind of breads right from ones with sautéed onions to ones with a tomato spread.
The options are plenty and the food size is enough to take care of two meals in a day. If you’re catching a Broadway musical and want to add the prefect touch to the evening then this is the place to be.
There's no way anyone could possibly make a dent into such portion, and there's a certain charm in that. Bigger, bombastic, and yet still tasty...and very New York.
I especially loved their traditional, home cooked feel pastas. Most of the dishes felt good. The typical spaghetti and meatballs, with large portions across the board. It is great for an after work dinner, or beer or just to chill out with friends. Typical comfort food with breads, full service and a pleasant ambience. Great food and service. The waiters were professional and the menu was very well thought. I especially liked the dessert menu, and the drinks menu. There is a lot to choose from and as far as menus go. The lines are very long though and if you do not have a reservation, the wait might kill you. Often times, especially during peak hours, or lunch and dinner timings, the queues can be very long.
A small sandwich shop in a hidden shopping plaza, Bread and Spread is a great place for lunch. Their unique sandwiches are made to order so be patient and it will be worth the wait. The Sandwich was on the smaller side but it was packed with flavor. I had Cast Iron Chicken Caprese on Ciabatta.
There's something to be said for a massive plate of spaghetti and meatballs. As in the biggest 'serving' of spaghetti ragu or assorted meats that you're ever likely to come across.

On a very cold night in midtown Manhattan, seeking refuge from the sleet and cold, I sought out some Italian comfort food. Carmines oozes that atmosphere that comes with an establishment that feels like it has been there forever.
I got what I bargained for: some cold beer, atmosphere, and a humungous plate of pasta. If only I'd left room for the tiramisu, which looked off the charts.
Carmine's in New York City has great good and service. When my friend and I entered the restaurant we were immediately greeted. The service was then great overall and the waiter was very professional and efficient. I ordered pasta and my friend ordered a chicken dish. Both of our dishes were brought out quickly and the taste was amazing. I will not hesitate to eat at this restaurant again once I visit New York again. It was a great overall experience to my wife and I.
Another thing that stood out was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The staff does a very good job cleaning up and keeping the place look very professional and nice. The aroma in the air of all of the nice and good cooked food was amazing. I was very impressed by this restaurant and I really look forward to going to eat their again.
I've had the best Italian dishes in my life so far. (disclaimer: I've never been to Italy and Eataly). The servings are humungous and everything is done perfectly. The waiters were very attentive too, even when the place is too busy. If you don't have reservation, prepare to wait as there's always long line outside. This branch is the best! We almost dined at their Vegas resto but the waitress there was rude so we left.
My friend I stopped by Carmine's NYC New Year's Eve without a reservation at around 7 pm. The hosts were very helpful, and made us feel very welcome, even though we didn't have a reservation. They explained that they had only one table available, and we would have to leave in 1 hour, but if that was possible, they would be very happy to welcome us. I appreciated their openness, transparency and honesty, so we weren't put in an awkward situation, and neither was the restaurant.
Once we were seated, the waiters were very attentive, and quick to recommend the specials of the day, and dishes that they thought we enjoyed. The service was very fast, despite the fact that there were many diners at the restaurant that evening. They still made us feel like valued, special clients.
The food and drinks were delicious! We both ordered pasta dishes that had hearty, rich sauces and amazing seasoning. The home made tiramisu was also a delight.
It's hard to find affordable good Italian food in NYC. Carmine's is a great option if you are in the theater area and want to get some great Italian food, at a very reasonable price. I went with a group of friends one evening and it was a great decision! Carmine's serves their dishes large, and they are designed to serve an entire family or large group. We ordered a large Caesar salad to start with and everything about it was perfect tasting! The table ordered a bowl of linguine with marinara for a pasta that we could all share. We then each ordered an entree, I went for a veal cutlet. The veal was very well prepared, it was lightly breaded and seasoned. It was cooked throughout but not tough or chewy. It had that buttery rich flavor that I want when I get a slice of veal. The pasta was delicious as well, the sauce was nice and tangy, with a little bit of spice. Overall it was a great night out!
While it may be pricey it was absolutely delicious, from the mains to sides. There was a large variety of meals to pick and choose from. My personal favorite was their Lasagna, the sauce was rich and creamy and the noodles were moist and perfectly cooked. For appetizer's we had baked clams, something we all enjoy immensely. The service was quick and pleasant. The decor was very welcoming too, it was a place you should sit back and relax having conversations with those who you might have brought with you. The atmosphere just right all around. I look forward to going back next summer to try new foods.

The classic burger was good, and almost felt like slow food. The smokehouse with bacon etc. was very good too. Surprisingly, my favorite was the veggie burger. This came in the former of a full Portobello mushroom, stuffed with Munster cheese, and crumb fried. Add the rest of the burger layers and you have deliciousness which makes you feel a little less guilty about chugging that 500 calorie thick strawberry shake on the side. Be prepared for long queues at all times of day, although that's probably a good thing. Wouldn't wanna make things too easy now, would we.
Not the best fine dining Italian food in nyc but the food is good and the portions are huge. A great meal if you're dining with out of towners and need something centrally located. For how busy the place gets I'm always impressed by the quality of the service.
Authentic, simple, home-style food. Spaghetti ragu was good! Al dente pasta with plenty of meaty goodness (meatballs, sausages, meat cuts) accompanying the flavoursome sauce. Be wary of the portions because they are very very generous. Our plate could have easily served 4 people!
Best italian in Times square. Penne ala vodka & Ceaser salad is a total winner. Their fresh breads are so good one could just have them over and over again. Located in the heart of manhattan this place does require prior booking and is usually full on weekends.

Great place to come with family and friends, very accommodating to large parties. A nice alternative to trendy restaurants in the area when you're looking for a simple home cooked kind of meal. Everything is served family style with portions you would expect given the kind of restaurant it is. The holiday decorations were great and gave it a nice casual at-home feel. I like that the wine here is served in the old school Italian glasses and not the typical long stems, nice touch. The food was all really good, and if you have a gluten allergy they do a good job on the gluten free pasta made with cornmeal instead of flour. Everything was really good and tasted home made, nothing seemed like it was frozen or came off a truck. Prices were good considering it's Manhattan and big portions. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was having to read the menu up on the wall since my back was to it. I'm sure they do that to speed up service but it would be nice to have at least a couple hard menus on the tables. Aside from that small complaint, great place for comfortable casual dining.

Massive servings enough for four people so great for a big doggie bag to take home or give to a homeless person. The gardenia pasta was a good vegetarian option. I really liked it but it was a bit creamy for my partner. Good negronis and red wine (root 1). Deserts looked good but we didn't have time. Was a bit disappointed to find the place was established in 1990 when the look is very classic; thought it has history but really didn't! Does have to look though.
We ate here after a show last night. Even at 10:30 pm there was about a 30 minute wait-- we didn't have reservations. The bar was pleasant and so was the bar tender who fixed us up with a couple of delicious cocktails. After about 20 minutes we were seated. We ordered the 1/2 dozen raw clams--they were spectacular, fresh and briny. Next on to the one of the best Caesar Salads that I have had in a long, long time. Complete with great cheese and fresh homemade croutons. For the meal we enjoyed the veal saltimbocca, which was excellent.
It was just my wife and I dining, and the portions were overly plentiful. This would be a great spot to dine with a group of 6. With each couple ordering something different.
Every visit to NYC includes a meal at Carmine's!. You may find it difficult to get a dinner reservation. If that happens, I highly recommend making a lunch reservation instead. The server may tell you that the pasta dishes will serve 2-3 people... where I'm from, they would feed 4-6 people. The portions are MASSIVE, so if you're not going with a large group of people to share with, I hope your hotel room has a fridge! I make a point of going to Carmine's every time I'm in NYC and am never disappointed. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is fabulous, and the house prosecco is not only fairly priced, it's delicious! (we ordered a 2nd bottle! At lunch!)

So so so good Southern Italian food. The spaghetti and meatballs taste just like those of my Sicilian grandmother from New Orleans. Will always come when in NYC. One dish is enough for 3 big or 4 average adults. Love the meatballs and red sauce. My sister loved the vodka sauce. There is no white/Alfredo sauce available since this is southern Italian. Price is very low for as many people as it feeds. Order the garlic cheese bread! Stuffed artichoke is great. Good quality iced tea. Great customer service. The atmosphere feels homey to me. Need reservations for dinner or lunch, unless you want to eat lunch late (1-3pm). Must visit when in Manhattan. One of my favorite italian restaurants anywhere!

If you are a real New Yorker you never really want to be in this part of town unless you’re there for a Broadway show or some sort of special event. As we were seeing Rock of Ages (awesome rocking show) not too long ago we decided to make reservations and eat here before the performance. Side note – sad to see the show bow to its final curtain. We saw it a few times and it was always a blast. Great music, plenty of laughs, wonderful memories, and a fun show to boot! Extra side note – never eat this much again if you plan on sitting in a small cramped Broadway theater to attend a show afterwards. I just wanted to lay down in the aisle and sleep after this carbo coma! Carmine’s is known for ginormous family style portions, and they surely did not disappoint. The place itself is huge and boisterous. Plenty of pictures on the walls featuring Broadway celebrities and well knowns. Loud and full of people happily chowing down on some very decent plates of Italian style food. I would guess that 80% of the diners here that night were tourists. It probably is most of the time as it is located in tourist central, and many are in the area to either see a show or sight see. One thing for sure is that everyone comes here with an appetite and leaves satisfied. I have to admit that we enjoyed our feast. Basket of breads were placed on the table, but no butter or oil? That was odd. We started with the stuffed artichokes which were larger than softballs and filled with a breadcrumb stuffing. Delicious and filling as an appetizer. The plate came with two of them. As a main course we split the pasta special of the night and when the plate came we laughed in fear at how monstrous it was! Great Experience - Family Friendly & Affordable. They must have thought I was crazy trying to get a table for 16 the night before during the holiday rush, but I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my email and received a confirmation from an employee Ana Zapata. We found EVERY employee was pleasant & courteous even when the place was bustling, especially the poor employees at the front door who did a great job. Our table was ready on time and the calamari appetizer & mixed salad was the perfect start. The family style atmosphere was perfect with a group including 8 kids and the pasta dishes were all good and the service was quick. The atmospere was amazing & relaxing after a long day in the city...would highly recommend. Last year we were desperate and did lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe for crappy burgers & even crappier service and paid more.
Went for a drink after a show on broadway, the place was still packed at midnight and the food looked amazing. Sat at the bar and the service was very good. Looking forward to dining there soon
Best Italian Spot In Town!. My friend and I shared the angel hair pasta with seafood pairing; we had enough food for the next three meals! Make a reservation; we were glad we did - over 10 people waiting in line for a table. Great service, amazing food - we will be returning again!

A memorable meal. My husband made a reservation here for a Monday evening. The restaurant looked classic italian and had a warm abiance. We started the evening off with mojitos and a friendly server welcomed us and answered many questions as to some of the different meat accompaniments. We were reminded of the family style concept but figured we would try as much as we could. Had the portobello Parmesean to start which was a delightful blend of tomato, cheese and varying textures. We polished them off only to be greeted with our manicotti and lemon and spinach chicken in large dishes. The manicotti was rich and flavorful and the chicken was a symphony of complementary tastes. We shouldn't have filled up on the different kinds of bread! We ended up taking enough home for lunch the next day. A must try!
Never Disappointed. Every time I'm in the city and go to Carmine's, I forget how great this place is. The portions are gigantic and the quality is always top notch. Be sure to make your reservation at least 3-4 weeks in advance. Two weeks won't cut it here.

Lasagna was delicious! Bring a few friends to make the family style meals very affordable. Make reservations ahead of time, so you won't have to wait. I'd definitely love to come back.
Really great food! Wow, a family of four can eat all they can for $60 in NYC?! We had a 40 minute wait for a table but it was worth it. Family style salad and spaghetti and meatballs were delicious. Service was friendly and atmosphere is fun. Highly recommend and we will be back.

This place is a total gem. Just like the review prior to mine, we did not want to go to Carmines because of it's proximity to Time Square (our group tends to stay away from Time Square touristy places) We went based on an overwhemling amount of peoples reccomendations and we are glad we did.
The food isn't Michelin Star quality but it really is good for what it is. The food is well seasoned and they give you great family style portions....which are HUGE sharing portions. We had a table of 8 people and the food that was ordered could have fed an army. Fortunatley none of us are scared of eating a little more than we should sometimes so we ended up finishing everything.
The ambiance is loud, fun, friendly and warm. We came at 7pm on a Thursday, the place was packed wall to wall but they managed to fit all 8 of us in from our original group of 6. Our server was friendly, funny and efficient and our overall experience was better than we expected. I wouldn't take my wife there on a date or if we craved a culinary adventure but if you want to have fun with your friends or family in a larger group, this is the place for you.

Carmine's was a restaurant I first experienced as a young child! I loved the loud bustling atmosphere at such a young age! My whole family was able to share two dishes, if you go to Carmine's be aware that the dishes are large and should be shared! It really isn't a place to chat but to sit down and enjoy the delicious food

Great food, UNBELIEVABLY NOISY & CROWDED. Ate a Carmine's midtown (Theater District) yesterday. NOT A PLACE FOR CONVERSATION unless you can talk at high DB level and have nosie reducers in your ears. Very efficient staff, very good food and plenty of it - Italian style (entrees shared)... e,g, salad is enough for 4 or more people and so is e.g. lasagna and many othet dishes. It looked expensive at first (e.g. typical entree $35) but one entree can feed 3-4 people usually BUT YOU SHOULD ASK ABOUT THE SIZE. The atmosphere can be stressful - but if you are a party animal, go for it!

Came as a family after a show. Was visiting NYC to see a Broadway show and made reservations for 10 at this restaurant. They were very accomoadating and friendly. The food is family style. You do not get individual menus. The portions are enormous. Some of the desserts are so large, they are humorous. Price is not bad for the area and environment. Quasi-fancy restaurant. We had the meal come out in courses and were there for over 4 hours. Very friendly wait staff and good food. The salmon was the best thing I had all evening.
Went just now on a Monday. Busy but ones we sat down the service was fast and food was great! Had the Monday House Special Fillet Mignon and Calamari for 4 adults and we could barely finish it all and the redefine sauce was to die for. All the veggies were so tasty especially the cherry tomatoes. Not a hint of sour. Family portions that is the way to go!!! Though it did not help for my shhh diet
Fantastic food and in family portions...so you are gonna share. We shared the spaghetti and meatballs...it was delicious. I had 1/2 dozen clams on the half shell and was also good. They usually don't have reservations but go anyway and you can have some drinks while you wait for your table. Service was good.

Like Nonna's. My Calabrian Nonna use to make these meatballs that were to die for and this place makes them exactly the same. In Australia we have plenty of Italian restaurants, but none make the meatballs like this. I can still taste them now. The other food was great as well, we had the the agnolotti with tomato sauce and that was brilliant.
Coming from out of town, we happened to just randomly find this restaurant. We were greatly impressed. Some of the best Italian I have had in a long time. Not sure of the bread we ordered but it was a cheese bread of sorts and was outstanding. The ravoli was great as well. Being just my wife and I, we were beyond stuffed when we left. When they say 'family portions' they definitely mean it - very large servings and surprisingly a great value for the quantity and quality of food provided. A definite if we return to NYC in the future.
You'll never get a reservation.... But you will get a seat if you just show up at the restaurant. I've tried for quite a while to make a reservation on Open Table but without success. The food is better than average -- the lasagna had delicate noodles, plenty of ricotta and a spicy tomato sauce. The chicken cutlet special was less good -- the cutlets were overcooked and tough but the butter sauce with capers was tasty. Service was attentive and prompt.
Carmine's is Great. I ate at Carmine's with a group of about 15 people. The food there was great, and the fact that it was a family style restaurant was a huge plus for a large group. The wait staff was great and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed or visit to Carmine's and the ambiance is beautiful. It is truely a gem in the middle of Broadway.

Great for out of towners. Consistently terrific family style Itailan. Don't go unless you are with at least a couple of oher people, or unless you want to bring home leftovers. Bring your appetite. Everything is delicious and HUGE.
Love this place!. I've been to Carmine's many times and always take visitors there. The food is fabulous! The wait is long, but worth every minute. My European friends travel to Italy at least twice a year and know real Italian food--they loved Carmine's too!

Best italian in tourist central. This is a great place for groups with great and reasonably priced food. Great for before or after theatre. I like the Hot Antipasto and the Rigatoni Country Style. Big crowds, Long Wait and Loud restaurant.
We loved Carmine's! Our family of four split two pasta entrees and we could have fed two more adults with our leftovers. It was delicious and a great value. I had to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance. When I tried to make them online there was nothing within eight weeks, but they were able to get me in when I called the restaurant directly.
Worth it. Last year, 8 of us went to New York for a Rangers game and before the game, we stopped here for dinner. Since, it is family sized orders, we got 4-5 orders and 3 bottles of wine and it came out to just over $200, pretty good for all we ate and drank... just and excellent place.

Best Italian hands down!. I took my wife here to celebrate Valentine's day and she was VERY happy! The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was very authentic and we loved the homestyle service.
We started with glasses pinot noir and the mussels in white sauce. These were delicious and cooked perfectly. Just enough garlic and plenty of sauce to dip the rustic bread in!
We moved on the the spagetti with tomato sauce and sausage. This was the best plate of past we have ever had. The pasta was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of salt. The sauce was rich, with great acidity and just the right amount of bite from spice. The sausage was also fantastic.
I have nothing but great things to say. If you want a memorable meal, go to Carmines!
Stuffed Mushrooms = stuffed guest.. This place is WONDERFUL! Remember to SHARE or you will have wayyyy too much food. Splitting an entree between two of us was more than enough. The stuffed mushrooms are the best I have ever had, the chicken parmesan is delicious, so many good dishes. I didn't try dessert (I was stuffed) but the table next to us had it and it looked WOW!!!!
Another must do. While in the area came by here because my Aunt just loves it. So we tried the zuppe de mussels, a nice salad and the tiramasu. What a lovely lunch! Yes, we're in the city in the theatre district so of course prices are high, but it's family style and more than enough food. Service was friendly but not spectacular. It was a lovely lunch.
You better be hungry... Great food! Mussels, so-so. Also the portions are ment for 4 to 6 people. So ordering is a team effort. So make sure you're dining with those with whom you can agree upon a meal
Worth it!. Unstoppably yummy, near all of the Broadway shows, dessert is piled sky-high. Entrees are in the $25 range but if you have three people at the table, you only need to get two entrees because they are "family style". One dessert will feed more than two.
Family Style Heaven. If you are a fan of huge portions at an affordable price, this is your place. Food is excellent and the price is crazy inexpensive for sitting in the middle of times square. If you have a big group, try it and share 4 or 5 things.
Bring friends!. My wife and I visited Carmine's last night on recommendation from a friend. Great food! We had fried zucchini "fries" for an appetizer and chicken parmesan with spaghetti for our entree. Both were excellent and WAY more than we could eat. I'd recommend dining with at least 4-6 people to help tackle their enormous portions. We'll be back.
Italian Family Style. A tourist's restaurant, that delivers a fun atmosphere, healthy portions and tasty food. It's worth a try.
Stuffed artichokes to die for. My sister and I recently took a girl's birthday trip to N.Y. A few years ago I had eaten at Carmine's on another trip and I've been wanting to go back. We went in after a broadway show. We ordered the stuffed artichoke and a caesar salad. The food, atmosphere, and wait staff were wonderful. We took the rest of the caesar salad to our hotel room and ate it the next day with a John's Pizza. I just ordered their cookbook and will go back again and again. If you were wondering, we come from the land of great food, New Orleans, La.

Try the Country Style Rigatoni. Attended a dinner party here with the NYC Alzheimer's Assoc. prior to the NYC Marathon in Nov. 2009. The meal was served family style and included all the various green salads on the dinner menu, all the red sauce pasta dishes on the menu and the Rigatoni-Country Style. We tried all of them! It was all absolutely wonderful! The meatballs are HUGE. Our favorite pasta dish is Rigatoni-Country Style...really decadent with sausage...Oh My!!! The cannolis were great too. I want to live in NYC so that I can eat at Carmine's more often!
Good place all things considered. So given that it has a touristy feel that you have to get over IMO, the food is good Itialian family style. I might even say the food is near the top of my Italian restaurant list. I didn't love the atmosphere, but the food was worth it.
Dreams do come true. Superb home-styled Italian cuisine with super fresh ingredients, before or after a Broadway play, served by attentive waiter/waitresses, in a historic setting with great decor and ambiance - all at super-affordable prices ... where even the wine is affordable! All of this without hailing a cab, walking distance to all the theaters?!
Dream on! Unless you're in the greatest city on earth... unless you're talking about Carmine's. I really don't know how they run this joint profitably; but I am sure glad they do and stay around!!

A Highlight to my Trip to NYC. I'm a born and raised New Yorker, and what I miss most most living in Florida are the great Italian restaurants. Carmines, with its down-home style brings back the memories. Everything was perfect. Even the Titanic stayed afloat long enough for our party of ten to consume.

Best Italian In The City. My favorite Italian restaurant is Tomaso's in Brooklyn, bur Carmines is unbelievable. Great portions, loud enviroment, great wait staff. Right in the heart of Times Square, you really can't go wrong. I had an excellent time and I will be back, A+
Our number one, all time favorite Italian. Are the places with "better" Italian food in the NYC area? Maybe. So far, the dozen of times we've gone here they are 99% great. Noisy? Busy? Yes! Absolutely adds to the fun and excitement.
Down Home iTALIAN. Originally from the South, I was exposed to Carmines (midtown) and uptown, for that matter, by good friends who are friends of the owners.... The first time I went to this establishment, was with a concert pianist and famous singer. We waited in line, like many others, and I thought, why? But soon, I realized,after several visits to both locations, this was a place, at the right times, for NY'ers to meet friends, life-long in somecases, and eat eat eat like there was no tomorrow. GO there.....

Excellent!. Great food, wonderful atmosphere! Food served family style and lots of it! Perfect for big groups or for a couple. Menus are on the wall - what a hoot! The wait staff was great the night we went; there was 7 of us and we had lots of questions and the staff was great in answering all our questions. We'll definitely be back on our next trip. Oh one hint - make a reservation - you'll be glad you did!

Table wine is really good!. If you come here, you have to try the table wine and enjoy a family style dinner with lots of good laughs. They definitely made the best italian dish I've had in a long time. They make al dente pasta, perfection!

Fantastic. We had dinner at Carmines in the Theater District after a matinée. My wife and I both really enjoy Italian food. This was without a doubt the best chicken parm I have ever eaten. The sauce was delicious, the chicken was cooked perfectly and the portions were huge. The service was excellent. The price was comparable to other restaurants in the area, but a bit over priced from what i am used to.
Some good, some great. The Wednesday night veal chop is fantastic, highly memorable. Stuffed with prosciutto and nice and crusty on the outside, you may think you're just eating some awesome bacon. The cold antipasto, oysters, and cocktails are good too. I'd pass on the house red wine and chicken parm though, both were run of the mill. The bread pudding was a nice end to good meal. Make reservations - this place gets crowded!
Great Food, Huge Portions. Costs the same as lesser restaurants when you can easily split the meals between people. We bought 3 meals to feed 6 (2 kids). Really liked the calamary and chicken parm.

Help Yourself to a Family Style Meal in Manhattan. You must go with friends to share the "family style" dishes -- this is no place to take a quiet business lunch on your own. This large restaurant is upbeat, noisy, friendly and gets you going in a good mood for a night out shopping or to a show with good company.
Tons of food!. If you have a large crowd, this is the place for you. Family style is the way so no one should be left hungry. The place can get pretty loud but it adds to atmosphere.
I've gone to both locations in Manhattan. Both are quite excellent. If you are wanting anything with a cream sauce, go elsewhere...they just don't serve that here. All tomato all the time! Quite generous portions-quite delicious! I wish they had a Carmine's in Dallas where I live! Highly recommended! I try to go there every time I'm in NYC.
When the dish was delivered we were both speechless. In front of us was the biggest plate of food we had ever seen, there was enough pasta and meatballs on the dish to serve a family of eight. The plate was about 70 centimeters long and was piled high with meatballs and pasta. Our waiter did the serving for us and piled on a number of meatballs and a heap of pasta onto our side plates and by the time he finished we had huge plates of food, but the main plate looked hardly touched!
There are institutions in NYC and Carmine's is definitely one. It is not just experiencing some good Italian food, but also eating it family style, like you would do at home, sharing huge plates of delicious food, where taste matters more than presentation. I originally removed it from my original wish list because I found out they serve the pasta family-style. Basically, I thought it wouldn’t give us much variation or choice. We were hungry, and I wanted pasta, so we decided to go anyway since we could not think of an alternative past 9PM. I’m glad we went though. And although they said it would be about a 20 minute wait, we only had to wait 5! For our group, they said we’d be good with a appetizer, and one pasta to share. Regular readers of the blog may know that I have a group of friends to whom I refer affectionately as " FBM " (first rule of FBM: never tell anyone what FBM stands for). We like to eat, and we like each other, so whenever we get together, there's sure to be food involved. This time, KC went to Carmine's a month or so ago and mentioned how great it was for big groups… so eventually, dinner was planned and there we found ourselves in the heart of tourist country. I went to Carmine's once probably 10 years ago - it was before I went to see Phantom of the Opera - and all I remember is the server being mean to us when we wanted to know why there was no alfredo on the menu, and everything being extraordinarily salty (I only notice food is salty much later, after I realize how much water I've drank throughout a meal). But I was willing to go in with a mostly open mind… At KC's suggestion, we started with the Carmine's salad. We've all been known to take turns mocking each other for salad

It was around noon, the restaurant was very busy on top of the Christmas season and a big crowd waiting. My daughter and I wanted to have lunch, and the host accommodated us on the second floor. We didn't have any reservations, so we were super happy to get a table. All the staff was very attentive and polite. We ordered a seafood pasta dish that was incredible! The plates are delicious and big. Two or three people can eat with one order. We definitely recommend this place and do yourself a favor and make a reservation in advance to enjoy your meal here!
We've been to New York a few times and this is the best of the best. Our server even tells you that their dishes are in large portions and we should simply share which is what we did. Cheese Ravioli is second to none. The sauce is home maid and really delicious. I ordered a couple Meat Balls on the side and you'll NEVER find anything like these anywhere else. They served us up a bread basket with their home made breads that are out of this world. Prices are really good as well. Treat yourself to a great real meal and go see the folks at Carmine's. You'll be glad you did.
Simply amazing NYC experience. Make your reservations well in advance but do not skip this must-do. Drinks and the bar service are top notch and the food portions are something out of a Hollywood movie. Even if you choose to cozy up to the bar for a few cocktails, you’ll be treated like family and be completely immersed in the heart filled ambiance. Stop reading. Treat yourselves and go.
This is a family style restaurant. Make sure to not go alone. Grab your family or group of friends and go. Plates are big and shareable. Food is amazing. We had the penne a la vodka and it was delicious and as appetizer the fried zucchini, it was excellent. Make sure to make reservations ahead. It gets busy.
Doesn't get much more New York than this, which is why the place is perpetually packed. The food is served as Italian household family-sized so PLAN ACCORDINGLY. Two dishes will be more than enough for two people and even three people. The chicken Parm is a great choice here and so is the veal. We had the vodka penne, which was great and flavourful. Lasagna is next on the list for the next visit!
I'm just going to start this off by saying do not order your own dish. This place is most certainly meant to share. With many other people. Largest portions I've ever seen at any restaurant by far. The food was phenomenal, service was incredible, atmosphere was fantastic. Our party of 4 shared 2 entrees and a salad and each and every one of us left with to-go boxes. I would return here in a heartbeat. I wish we had something even similar on the way coast. Also the eggplant parmesan was the best I've ever eaten! Drink were also great.
