Superb and attentive service. Fantastic atmosphere and ambiance) check out the downstairs dining room). Delicious food prepared to perfection. Very nice wine selection with good options for meal pairing. Classic pastries (not too sweet or over the top) exactly how I like them. Very impressed.
Spectacular in every way. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. The best cosmo in NYC. We all enjoyed the crudo (hamachi and bronzino), saganaki, Avra chips, grilled shrimp, grilled calamari etc. etc. Love Avra!
Experience from beginning to end was outstanding. Food and service was incredible! Highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass appetizer and Prawns for dinner. All desserts were worth every calorie. Can’t wait to return!
Outstanding and unique ! The best usual Greek selections and crudo/ceviche with a twist of Greek. Excellent wine list including the best assyrtiko from the island of Tinos, T-oinos Clos Stegasta. Always a hit.
Bartender was excellent ! He recommended my drink Greek salad and desert !!!
My Chilean Sea Bass was best I ever had anywhere ! It just melted in your mouth !!
Excellent food and excellent service! If you are ever in NYC, this is the place to eat. For the appetizer the grilled Octopus 🐙 , grilled Calamari and crab cake are to die for. For the main course we had the swordfish skewers and my wife had the filet mignon, both were amazing.
5 stars, both for food, service and atmosphere . The pris fix menue for lunch is a great deal.
I love the atmosphere the food and the service plus the place is very elegant and sophisticated great place love it 👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😍.
Excellent food! Very fresh seafood, lots of choices and excellent service . It will be a must stop everyone we visit NYC
Amazing food and spectacular service! My guests were so impressed and are interested in hosting their future celebrations. From the hostess to the bathroom attendants everything was a great experience.
One of the best places in the city that offers traditional Greek cuisine in a refined and sophisticated environment. Wonderful dips, flamed Saganaki cheese, grilled lamb chops and the freshest fish like Sea Bass and Mediterranean Branzino. Desserts are not to be missed, Baklava or the very rich Chocolate cake. A wide variety of wines are available. Service is very cordial. Highly recommended!
I went to this restaurant during the lunch time, which I recommend making reservations. The interior was lovely, it had nice vibes. I went there to try their octopus which I never had before but someone told it was really good, so I said, why not give it a try. The octopus was my appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was well seasoned and not hard to eat (not too chewy). The main course was a brazing, wish was excellent in flavor and well done. The dessert I had was, baklava, which is my favorite dessert and I am very picky. Though I had better, it was close enough and I give it a thumbs up. I gave it 4 stars because the table was shaky so they had to put something underneath it and also my chair seat was broken. For the amount of money customers spend there, they should have replaced that. Also, we had to keep calling the waitress over or someone to assist us-it was lunch time so we had to make sure we got back to work. I think that is important for restaurants to be mindful of. Otherwise overall, the restaurant was good and I recommend it.
Food 8/10
Very fresh fish and exceptional olive oil. Definitely get the branzino–super tender and light. The appetizers were all solid, not the most memorable, but I enjoyed them all. We got the tartare, tomato salad, Avra chips, and the three dips. I thought the Avra chips were better than the ones at Milos, and the yogurt dip was also very fresh. But I think my biggest qualm with the food here is the fact that their pita came in the form of chips and not bread. I dislike chips so I think that honestly took away 2 points. If there was bread, I would’ve been able to soak up the olive oil even better.
Atmosphere 9/10
We got a booth that fit nine people, very cute and kind of separate from the rest of the dining room, so it felt very intimate and perfect for a birthday celebration.
Service 9/10
Nothing to complain about, provided us with everything and showed us the fish before they cooked it, so we knew how big the Branzino was :D
I have eaten at other Avra locations, and I can say that consistency is the mainstay. Everything was delicious, especially the salt crusted branzino. Unfortunately, they didn't have Sardines that night, which made me sad...
Also, their wine list is pretty well balanced. We had 5 or 6 bottles of a nice white Burgundy and a couple of Argentinian Malbecs.
The service is good, like always. This place gets pretty cool the later you go. I would highly recommend trying to get a 9/930pm reservation when the place is busy.
This is one of the best luxurious restaurant you can find in NYC! Recommended place for romantic dinners or just for drink.
Stuff is professional and friendly. Ooow the foods and drinks! Olala 😚👌
Greek dishes in an amazing atmosphere! My orders were; grilled octopus, lemon roasted potatoes, Romaine salad, whole grilled Branzino (lavraki)❤︎ On top of that pistachio ice cream ❤︎
Have dined here many times, but I felt compelled to write about the incredible service we received by our server Georgios. I mean wow. He knew the menu front to back, every detail. Everything he recommended- we ordered. I brought 5 others who have never been here before and they were in awe of not only the food, but the 5 star service we received. My sister in law has celiacs disease and our server fully accommodated this and knew exactly which dishes she could and couldn’t have. I believe our server should be recognized for this by his employer! He is truly someone who loves his job and desires to provide excellence.
One of the best Greek/Mediterranean restaurants in NYC.
Reasonably priced lunch menu. More expensive for dinner.
Beautiful ambiance, great fresh fish and seafood.
Outstanding experience! I give them my outmost recommendation.
First, we had a special occasion to celebrate and we highlighted this in our reservation. The receptionist carefully reviewed the reservation notes and seated us accordingly. This definitely elevated the experience from the first moment.
The service delivered by the waiters were perfect. I mean it perfect!
The food was delicious and relatively the cost was excellent per quality as you would pay more for similar orders at similar level restaurants.
To conclude, I would definitely love to come again to this branch. And I definitely recommend it.
The ambience, the food quality, the service are top notch. Lunch prix-fixe value is insanely unbelievable. Best deal in town!
This place was fantastic! I especially loved the calamari! And I was a first timer on the zucchini chips. Magnificent!
Over all the food is quiet nice , a Turkish waiter attended us who was very friendly and professional at the same time. Very good service. My only complain the Israeli salad I was expecting to be better presented or maybe need to be chopped in smaller pieces and also the ambience was so so… nothing special…
Very pricey but the food is fabulous. My husband was not a fan of the salmon ( said a little dry) but I had the seafood over orzo ( recommended by our waitress who said it tasted like home to her ( Greece)). After one bite of the orzo, I said “this must be what heaven tastes like!” Seriously, the flavors were extraordinary.
I’d love to try the octopus, Greek Salad and fried calamari next time. The gentleman sitting next to me said everything was wonderful! But I guess I’ll pass on the salmon.
Avro was a great place to visit. Service was excellent and fast. The food was tasty and cooked with love. Highly recommend to visit
You first get a feeling for what type of restaurant this is when you walk in the door. You see a lot of people in dresses, suits, and lots of ties. People mentally and physically prepare themselves for a place like this. It's not just a place to eat, it's a place to be seen. And a place to look around because the person at the next table may have been in the movie you saw last night.
It's not just the elegance, and the rare special treats on the menu. This place is not all show and no go. There is plenty of go. Everything I've ordered here so far is prepared to perfection. Can you imagine ordering octopus that almost melts in your mouth like butter? That was my experience. Not just the delicious food, but also the elegant way it is prepared on the plate. From the flatbreads before lunch or dinner right down to the elegant dessert, every plate of every course is delicately delicious, full flavored, and just as pleasing to the eye as to the palate.
Dessert was somewhat diminutive but the amount of flavor I got could have been in a large salad bowl. Again, delicious delicate flavors, layered so each bite is a new surprise.
If you're trying to impress a client, or a date, or bringing your family to a formal and proper dinner to celebrate a special moment, or maybe to start a family by unveiling a crystallized carbon ring, this is the place!
I should also mention that service was amazing. Our server Erin was just the right balance of presence, always there when something's needed as if she could read my neurons before they fired. Elegant, polite and warmly engaging, just the type of person one would expect in a five-star establishment ☺️
Visited New York for the weekend:
Aunt works closeby so she surprised me by taking me to Avra!
Atmosphere; 5/5
Favorite aspect of Avra; 2 floors of seating, seats a LOT of people, yet never felt “loud” or “crowded” in fact, surprisingly never got overwhelmed, despite the large size of the restaurant still felt like an intimate setting. Which is tricky to achieve. Incredible interior design with lots of attention to detail, yet never felt over the top , despite having some over the top design elements like floating fountains. Not sure how they achieved this what would normally be contradictory balance, but super cool they did.
Service: 5/5
Enjoyed having a very knowledgeable server; knew every dish down to each ingredient and was very helpful. Never felt interrupted or overwhelmed. But was there when we needed them.
Food; 4/5
Speciality is seafood. Ordered Chilean Sea-bass. Dish was uniquely prepared (I generally prefer no frills seafood) however I enjoyed this unique take on my dish. Portion was “larger than usual” but not overwhelming, with fresh array of ingredients. Not something I would write home about, however combined w the atmosphere made it super memorable and enjoyable experience.
I really liked the dinner crowd; despite the number of people felt like locals / home vibe in some sense.
Because of the atmosphere alone: would certainly plan to come back with family and friends as there is something for everyone on the menu, and the design of the place is in fact awe inspiring without crossing the tacky line.
As a Greek, this place has the best high end Greek cuisine in the city. The $35 prix fixe lunch special is definitely the best deal at Avra for food quantity to value. The fish food is the freshest I’ve tried in NYC and always cooked to perfection, an absolute must have. Fantastic decor and atmosphere. The staff are very kind and accommodating.
The prix fixe lunch is great value! Appetizers, main dishes and desserts are all perfect for us. I requested that we would like to celebrate my friend’s birthday in advance, they decorated my friend’s dessert plate.
I highly recommend you all this restaurant any situations.
My favorite location of the Avra's here in NYC. The ambiance is great and the food is always deliciously reliable. Fresh seafood on ice that you're able to walk up and pick out on request. Overall the food is super clean, fresh, and healthy Mediterranean. I would recommend coming here for lunch as they have a pre frixe menu which allows you to get an appetizer, entree, and dessert for a reasonable price.
