We love this restaurant! But it looks awful from the street. You have to go down a few steps and enter the restaurant with an ugly front hall almost hidden under a stairway up to a shabby-looking tenement. The interior of the restaurant is inviting once you get in. The wait staff are pleasant and highly competent. The food is unifromly excellent. I love the appetizers, and especially the cauliflower with pine nuts and the Brussels sprouts. The wine list is small but well chosen, and the mark-up is reasonable.
This isn't a place that would entice you to walk in off the street, and it is surrounded by vast food and mediocre (at best) restaurants.Maybe that's why there aren't many tourists. But trust me-- it's a gem. It's near the West Village. If you're looking for good Italian food in this area, go a couple of blocks out of your way and visit this restaurant. You won't be disappoointed.
Lovely surprisingly big restaurant. Romantic and amazing pasta!
But cocktails should be on discounted when buying a main.
Nice atmosphere and good food. The menu had a lot of great items and it was hard to decide what to order. Service was very attentive. We ate out in the back patio area which had a European feel to it. Prices were reasonable but don't expect to have a lot of food left over to take home. Went here based on other urbansppon postings.
Nice setting, surprised at how large it was inside. Quick service for our large group of 12.
Romance in NYC. Amazing veal Marsala. Dry Marsala wine. We dined outside, beautiful romantic setting. Attentive staff. Reasonable price.
Very good, great atmosphere, food was spectacular. There was 6 of us, we all ate something different and loved it. Service was good. Music was just a little loud. Don't expect Italian music, very hip.
Try the back courtyard. Ask for a table in the back courtyard... it altars the experience entirely. Northern Italian cuisine to die for... the arancini di riso (fried risotto balls) are the perfect amuse bouche, while the spaghetti carbonara crowned with a golden poached egg will ruin this classic dish for you anywhere else; it simply couldn't be done better. Crispo tickles the senses from absolutely every angle.
Amazing staff and food. Stumbled on this restaurant in the fall- originally went for a cocktail and stayed for dinner. It was an excellent experience and so when back in the city this week, I returned. Fresh, flavorful food, great waitstaff, fantastic wine selection, and delicious desserts. Recommend it for a great meal.
3rd times a charm. STill amazing after 3 times, try to get early before the rush but yum yummy.
And before I could even open my eyes, I reached for my cell phone and dialed 411. Seconds later I was speaking with a staff member from Crispo and found out that not only did they have a back patio, but that they could also accommodate a party of three in thirty minutes.
I know Crispo is famous for its Spaghetti Carbonara, but I was impressed with its antipasti and affettati more than anything. The Citrus Cured Anchovies were mouth-watering, Crisp Fuji Apple, Prosciutto & Parmigiano was terrific and its bone marrow " Arro
