After reading some reviews of S’MAC it went straight to my bucket list. And I am so glad we went there! Advice: go early or you will have to wait 30-40minutes. First you have to choose the size of your skillet and then the pasta you want. I chose a nosh to big for me but you can take away the leftovers. The Cheeseburguer nosh was amazing, loved it! In my next visit to NY I’ll go back for sure!
This place was on my list of ‘must eats’ when we came to NYC. So glad we made the trip over from our hotel near Times Square one evening. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ordered a skillet far too big but I gave it my best shot! I had the 4 cheese as I like my Mac’n’cheese simple. It was the best I’ve ever had and I’d go back to NYC just to have it again!!
Pizzas from this place are really awesome!!!!
Along with some equally tasty beverages, it's just amazing feeling!!!
Great food, great service, value for money, great presentation!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Had dinner with my family . Menu is perfect , something for everyone.service was awesome and ambiance is good.servers here wonderful.kudos.what a great place
This place is amazing! I eat here every chance I get when I am in the area. I always have the Parisienne and it is fabulous!!!! Can't wait to visit again!
Gluten free available with a wide variety of different cheeses... absolutely incredible and way too many calories to eat alone, so recommend sharing. Would definitely go back next time I’m in NYC!
I had never tried Mac and Cheese in my entire life, so when I went to New York, I couldn't wait to try this so typical American dish. I searched for a good place and I choose S'MAC, due to Zomato's reviews.
I think that I made a good choice since I liked it a lot. I can understand why so many people consider that as "comfort food".
S'MAC has many types of Mac and Cheese we can choose from. I decided to order one of the simplest: the "American Mac and Cheese", and I feel very pleased with that. It tasted very good. Nowadays, sometimes I remember that and I want to eat it again.
The smaller dose it's enough for one person, but for people that like to eat a lot, like me, the medium size is the best choice.
America's most favourite dish is served with amazing flavours. The have the just right amount of mac and cheese. Must try one of these outlets if you visit NYC. Its both vegetarian and vegan friendly.
My friend and I ate here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was not crowded. We split the regular mac n cheese and the buffalo mac n cheese. Both dishes were sooooo good. The mac n cheese was perfection! Better than anything I could make at home. They have plenty of cool mac n cheese flavors (something for everyone). The service was fast and the food was delicious!
Nice place . Good for friends and family. Ambiance and music is great. Best cafe in this area. I liked their red sauce pasta. This is really a must visit place . Looking forward to visit again soon.
Really excellent and varied food, especially considering they only serve mac 'n cheese. You really have to try S'mac at least once just to see the creative things they've done with every 12 year olds favorite meal.
This place is awesome! Mac n Cheese made to perfection! They throw together like 12 different kinds and they are all great. Buffalo Mac is really good! Cooked in heavy cast iron bowls so watch your toes! Kinda small inside and can get a little cramped during peak hours so be prepared.
Plus:
+ A wide selection of Mac and Cheese
+ The ability to create your own
+ Price
+ A nice range of sizes from snack size (which is still pretty big) to family size.
Negatives:
- Not every selection from the menu is a good one (i.e. The Parisienne)
- Long wait times
- Seating arrangements not well thought out.
Viemos aos States e como não podia deixar de ser tínhamos de comer um mc&cheese !! Este era bastante agradavel e saboroso. Imã overdose de queijo!!
Yummm! Perfect Mac and cheese - so tasty! Been twice - first time the cashier was a really nice friendly lady! Second time, the male server was pretty unprofessional and inefficient. The food is perfect though! (and well priced!) 😄
How do you say anything but, "Wow!" I have had about a half dozen of their offerings. The noodles are perfect, and the dishes are creamily delectable! Not looking at the menu at the moment, so cannot recall the name of the specific dish, but there's one with a bit of an Indian flavor to it. It was surprisingly good, and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying something a bit different. The Parisienne was also very good, with the figs adding the perfect complement to the dish.
Well done, folks!
What i dreamed of growing up. I loved mac'n'cheese as a kid. Still do. This place brought me back to the good old days, but definitely gave me more to enjoy than the stuff out of the box (not that I would have any problem with that either). I got the parisienne, which had mushrooms and brie. It was awesome. You've gotta love the presentation of the dish in the skillet they baked it in too. I'll be back soon.
Tried it for the first time...went four cheese and was in heaven...they do it well and I will def be back
Best Mac and Cheese Around!. I recently tried S'Mac in the East Village! I got the Cheese Burger Small, and Shared it with a friend. We were both amazed, it was so delicious! Not only that, we were both full from a Small.
S'Mac also offers Party Sizes! Definitely getting this for my next house party!
Best mac and cheese!. What can I say about S'Mac? ... other than it's the best Mac and Cheese place around. In my most recent trip, I discovered they can make it vegan and gluten-free, which is impressive considering the typical ingredients of macaroni and cheese.
I ordered the Napoletana Mac and Cheese, which is basically pizza-flavored. It was so delicious, and as always, fills you up, even with the smallest size. My wife had a vegan, gluten-free, build-your-own Mac and Cheese, and she loved it (which was great, considering she's had a "regular" Mac and Cheese from S'Mac in the past)!
The dishes are just so cheesy and gooey, the portion sizes are more than enough, and it's so delicious! I highly recommend this place.
Tears of Joy. S’Mac has been on my must-visit list for a few years. As this was my first visit, I stuck with a more traditional version, the 4 Cheese. I can honestly say, this is, hands-down, the best mac & cheese I have EVER had. And I’m from the Midwest, where we know our mac & cheese. I ordered the smallest portion, the nosh and still did not finish it, but I made sure to eat all of the super-yummy breadcrumb topping. Ideally I would have had a few friends along so that we could each get a different version and then share. They do have a sampler skillet, but it is huge. Looks like I will be adding another eatery to my list of places to return the next time I am in NYC.
Good Ingredience. The food here is well made and fresh. The cheese was high quality and not the processed garbage. You can really taste the quality which explains the prices. Definitely worth it though and would recommend the Buffalo Chicken!
Very good concept for a fast food reataurant.
We found this place on Urbanspoon when trying to find a cheap place to eat that wasn't your typical burgers/pizza joint. Saw the reviews and had to try it.
The portions are deceptively filling. We each ordered a small portion and were pretty satisfied. I ordered the Cajun, and my fiancé tried the Parisian... Both were delicious (they even cater for a lactose reduced option for my fiancé). I can imagine that the plain flavours would be a bit heavy and stodgey, but this is reflected on the price point. Interesting atmosphere in the dine-in section, the furniture was kinda run down but the bright colors lifted the mood.
Definately worth a try :)
Amazing gluten free Mac. So so so good!!! Yum
Great food & Portions. Portions are gigantic so come prepped with a big appetite!
I have had S'mac 4 times in the past 2 years (sad I know) and each time they have been given to me in different ways and I have different experiences each time. The first I did take out myself and walked it home several avenues, still pretty good. Next someone else ran it over to me the same distance and it was maybe a little colder. I then had it delivered, which understandably took some time since they're always busy, and it was the worst (not really but you get my point). Finally I had te Cajun Nosh at the sit down restuarant and it was the greatest thing to ever happen to my mouth. Although it is good everytime, eating it there fresh out of the oven is the best ever.
Delicious but a little pricey. I tried the Alpine while the bf tried the Buffalo Chicken. Both were delicious and completely worth the wait - dont go if you're claustrophobic. The only bad thing was that it is kind of pricey for what you get.

Good Mac and cheese. So a friend of ours recommended this place while in NYC. The four of us travelled which seemed like forever but finally arrived at the restaurant. The food tok a while but I guess it was made to order. Was kinda weird how its served on a skillet. Trust me I wash a ton of dishes by hand and it's tough to get those clean. The food was hot and delicious. I would recommend it if your in NYC.
Delicious! Lots of tourists though when we were here.
!YUM!. Wow! Really, really, really delicious, homestyle mac and cheese. Great variety of "flavors". Don't go unless you really want mac and cheese- that's pretty much all they sell. And this is more of a take out place than a restaurant. Don't plan to get a table unless you wait a looonnng time. The place is tiny, and has the ambience of a McDonalds. But the food is fab!
Extremely addictive and delicious!
Little skillets of heaven
SOLID Mac & Cheese. SOLID mac & cheese.
I have bowed to the altar of mac & cheese since I was a wee one toddling all about. In the years that followed, I developed a love for mac & cheese that has not yet been eclipsed by anything else in this world (don't tell my hubs). Homemade, especially with upstate New York white Cheddar, captured my heart early-on but I also found joy in a blue box of Kraft mac & cheese (both the goopy cheese-like substance packet kind and the powder kind) and Velveeta packaged mac & cheese as well. I am known to stock Stouffer's mac & cheese in the freezer like it is going out of style. I've tried it organic and day-glo orange; powdered, gooped, crisped and lowfat/fat-free (yuck). I've tried it with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in but overall I remain a mac & cheese purist, not even allowing a bread crumb to detract from the full hit of cheesy goodness that the first bite always brings. That said, my venture to S'MAC held a level of anticipation not often experienced in someone of my, ah, years.
Of course, the desire hit on a Saturday. In the early afternoon (aka prime lunch time). On a cold, crisp day (when one wants to positively climb into the mac & cheese). I saw the line about out the door and mentally sighed, but realized that I was made of strong stuff and would stick it out for my pilgrimage. Once I made it to the counter, I placed my order. I went with the classic All-American, which is a blend of American and Cheddar cheeses. In reading prior reviews the jury was out on whether the smallest size (Nosh) or the medium size (Major Munch) might be the better portion so I went big and ordered the Major Munch. I surprised myself when the woman at the counter asked if I wanted breadcrumbs and I said yes. So much for the purist...
After finding and sharing a table with a lovely stranger from Chicago (folks were practically eating their own young to find a place to sit in there), the mac & cheese arrived still bubbling and smelling like heaven. Once it was right in front of me, it looked like a lot of food but seeing the stranger's smaller Nosh portion made me happy I 'd gone big. I dipped my spoon in for the first bite and was enthralled by the small bit of give from the crisped bread crumbs - it was somewhat like cracking the caramelized sugar crust on a creme brulee. The mac & cheese itself was perfectly gooey (I don't tolerate dry mac & cheese well), steaming, and even though it was hot it was GOOOOOOOOOOOD. Totally worth burning my tongue a little.
I ended up finishing a good two-thirds of the medium size and since I might have been crying had I ordered smaller and run out of gooey cheesiness, I am glad I ordered the medium size. They have to-go containers there, but since our room wasn't equipped with a microwave that wasn't an option for me.
I highly recommend S'MAC for a great mac & cheese fix if you're in the area.
Mac & Cheese bonanza!. I'm a huge fan of macaroni and cheese, so when I visited NYC in October 2010 this place was top of my list.
The food was awesome, of course! Even the one person in our group who didn't like macaroni and cheese enjoyed her hamburger mac and cheese dish.
I recommend trying this place at least once, even if you aren't a huge fan of this comfort food because you might be surprised how delicious it is! :-D
Great options!. I never considered that you could make so many different types of mac and cheese! Super yummy! Fun neighborhood. Good low cost option
Better than Mom's. Probably one of the best mac and cheese meals I have ever had. I want to try some other options at S'Mac, but can't bring myself to not get the Alpine each and every time. It's way too good. Masala and buffalo chicken are good, but not even close to Alpine. Great stuff.

Have the sampler.......... And die happy.:-)
Good m&C. I heard about this place a while back from a friend who lives close by, and is a Cooper Union student, so you'd figure cheap / good comfort food! She was right! This place was a hidden gem till recently, and now it's packed daily. The menu is simply gourmet mac'n'cheese, with a variety of add ons. The seating and circulation in the restaurant needs a bit of work, but the quality and taste of the M&C makes it all that better. They also have a takeout place nextdoor for those who don't want to stand in line or have no place to sit
So good - but a little to cozy.. Love the All-American Mac and Cheese! S'Mac is also definately better to eat in than take out (It's cooked in a different kitchen and in my opinion, it's not as good) - the only problem with this is the space to eat in is so small you will have to fight for a table.
The food is great, but my only criticism is the seating area. Get a bigger place guys please!
Good comfort food!. Favorite establishment for comfort food in NYC. I always order the Garden Lite and have never had a bad experience with it. I do recommend that you tread carefully when making your own creations. My boyfriend tried to build his own mac and cheese and it turned out to be a terrible combination. You might want to leave the creativity to the chefs.
The prices might seem a bit steep for macaroni and cheese, but that's NYC for you. Trust me, you aren't likely to need anything bigger than the "nosh" size. It might look small at first, but that thick cheese will hit you like a brick sooner than you think.
It's a bit out of the way to get to if you don't live in the immediate area, but it is certainly worth the trip if you like good comfort foods.
The buffalo chicken smac is addictive. Just doublecheck that they hear you when if you order gluten free.
For a mac and cheese fix this place is great. Many different styles.. Pariticularly liked the all American, cheeseburger, Cajun and the alpine. My 5 year old loved it
Do NOT order The Parisian. Buyer beware: The Parisian and the La Mancha are quite horrid. The Parisian includes figs which adds such a nasty side-taste, you can't even pretend to like it.
On the flip-side, the Neopolitan, 4 Cheese and Alpine are definitely worth it.
A new twist on an old favorite!. I heard of S'Mac about a year ago in a discussion stemming from my weekly ritual of going to Whole Foods and buying Macaroni & Cheese for my office's lunch meetings. The discussion was on the increasing tendency for a restaurant to specialize in one area and make new twists. A new restaurant called S'Mac was introduced and I knew I had to immediately try it. S'Mac offers a wide selection of different macaroni & cheese recipes, ranging from the classic mac 'n' cheese to some exotic variations. You can choose to eat in the restaurant, have it delivered, or take it on the go. Although the ambiance in the restaurant is great, it is a little cramped. So don't take more than a date to experience a true culinary delight!
Can someone really overdose from eating too much cheese and carbohydrates in one sitting? Holy lactose intolerance Batman! This place was one crazy experience to have after a long day of drinking and partying after a pub crawl. Thank God it is not anywhere near where I live or I would need my arteries cleaned on a weekly basis. S’MAC does not play around when it comes to mac and cheese! There is actually a small dine-in restaurant and a take out shop next door. It was packed, but all we had to do was hover like a senior at a casino looking to play their favorite penny slot machine and we snagged a bunch of tables within a few minutes. In my booze fueled ravenous state I looked over the menu of cheese-tactic choices and had to order the cheeseburger mac and cheese. Since there were two of us eating this we went with the mongo size. Boy was that a mistake! A giant portion served in a frying pan was put in front of us that struck fear into my stomach. Yes, it tasted terrific, but was so f
If you’re not worried about calories or cholesterol and want nothing more than a skillet filled with deliciousness, then S’mac is the place to go. The space is intimate and you have to either get there early or hover over a table till they eat up and get out, but the mac and cheese is definitely worth stalking a table for. The other beauty of S’mac is that they offer several sizes of the mac and cheese which come in an adorable cast iron skillet, so if you don’t want to feel like a cow you can get the nosh or if you are baked out of your mind and think you can eat the world, go for the mongo. Choice is yours. One of my favorite items on the menu is aptly named The Sampler, a skillet divided into eight portions where you can indulge in tiny samplings of S’macs best selling signature mac and cheese dishes.
There are many recipes today with a wide variety of pasta used (check out for instance my recipe of Italian mac & cheese that uses orzo) or cheese (blue for instance), as well as other ingredients added to the mix, such as ham, or in a more elegant version, lobster or crab meat. I admit that I never had any good seafood mac and cheese, probably because the amount of seafood is not enough to let it shine. But, definitely, mac and cheese is my favorite side with a steak and I am surprised that restaurants do not propose it more often on their menu. The best I had in a restaurant was at The Old Homestead in New York City (it was made with truffle, probably oil - sorry Anthony Bourdain) and at Dino & Harry's in Hoboken. The worst was at Nick and Steph's Steakhouse in the City: the cheese tasted like Velveeta...mac and cheese is a comfort food that is present in many countries, in different forms. In France, it is called gratin de pâtes. When I was a kid, we use to eat it as a main dish ra
I'm not talking about Kraft or EasyMac kids, I'm talking about REAL macaroni. My grandmother has one heck of a recipe that's always a staple in her traditional South Carolina-inspired dinners. Now NYC has taken it to a whole new level - a restaurant dedicated to everyone's favorite called S'MAC (Sarita's Macaroni & Cheese). It's not just your standard plate of mac 'n cheese either. You can choose from one of the restaurant's many combinations inspired by Spanish, Mediterranean, Cajun and even Indian cuisines (among others). If you want traditional, they also offer the standard (and favorite) all-American or the four-cheese with cheddar, muenster, gruyere and pecorino. While Jess stuck with the four-cheese, I went a different route with a build-your-own. My lovely combination of choi
S'Mac has been in my bookmarks for a while and when I mentioned it they were keen. It's nothin fancy, a walk up counter with some plastic table and chairs, but we were there for the food and not a dining experience, so not a problem. I sprung for the Gard
When my girlfriends and I first started planning the details of our weekend in New York, I had recently recently learned that New York has restaurants dedicated to mac and cheese! (Thanks to Runner’s Kitchen!) Jaclyn recommended that we try out S’MAC – Sa
Ever have one of those days when you get a craving for something and can't shake it? Well that was me recently. I had a craving for good old Mac & Cheese. Trying to find a place to grab lunch, all I could think of was Mac & Cheese. But not the kind that comes out of a blue box, the real deal. But it isn't easy to find. Racking my brain and trying to figure out where I can go to satisfy my craving, I suddenly remembered a spot nearby. So I headed down 2nd Ave to the mother ship….. S'Mac . S'Mac is a little cafe in the East Village that serves one thing and one thing only….Mac & Cheese. The interior is orange & yellow, very much like the color of cheese. The formica tables all have a plastic basket containing silverware, napkins and condiments. You head up to the counter and choose from their recommendations, such as All-American, 4 Cheese, Cheeseburger, to name just a few. Or you can build your own from the various fix-ins and mix-ins. I decide to go with Sarita's recommendation - T
Let me tell you a bit about my friend David. That’s him down below. He makes a banging burger and grills it to perfection. He’s great at Spanish, even though his AP teacher didn’t think so. David’s promised to visit me in the city for the past 3 years, bu
S'Mac has been quietly around for three years now, tucked away under some trees on East 12th Street, but well-known to those in the neighborhood. I've never been to the cafeteria side and always ordered takeout, but both are pretty much the same. I often
This place was so cool, you come in and order on a tablet and then grab an open table and a table number and sit. They had great music and the food was so good y’all. Some good vegan Mac and it is hard to make vegan Mac good so my compliments to the chef! I definitely recommend it to my fellow vegans and I’m sure the non vegans will love it as well because cheese is delicious lol. Go if you haven’t already!
We have been coming here for awhile when craving mac n cheese and it never disappoints! I usually get the 4 cheese but they have a lot of options and you can even make your own. The nosh size is usually enough for me but if you’re really hungry or want leftovers I would get a larger portion. They offer quite a few drink options even beer, wine, and cocktails. The ordering process is really easy, we have gotten both take out and dined in and the food is always consistent! If you want something sweet after the chocolate chip cookies are also pretty good from here!
Great food on the lower east side. I went here back in 2010, so I'm happy they are still in business.
I didn't care for the self-service kiosk, someone took your order before, and now the restaurant layout appears to be a little tight and informal for my taste.
Still, it's worth a visit, especially if you love mac n cheese since this is the only type of food they make.
While in NYC I really wanted to try vegan mac and cheese and we decided to visit this place.
I love the idea of adding veggies into your Mac & cheese it definitely lifted up the dish.
There was a slight artificial taste probably coming from the vegan cheese but I´d still recommend visiting this place if you want to have some vegan Mac and cheese.
A great place to grab a quick bite to eat while you’re in the East Village. They have some really good gluten free macaroni, and the breadcrumbs are gluten free too!!
You get to choose a skillet size, and they are helpfully hanging on the walls. Just note that it will be filled to the brim with mac and cheese, so you might overestimate how much you can eat haha.
I’ve tried the marsala and the parisienne. Both are amazing, but I highly recommend the parisienne if you had to try one.
I love visiting S'MAC when in NYC! There's something to be said for a joint that does one type of thing and does it exceptionally well. Every dish is made from scratch and served still bubbling in its own cast iron skillet. If you love mac and cheese, you won't be disappointed!
Always a favorite for comfort food. Love the breadcrumbs toasted on top. Try the Cheeseburger if you need something extra or the All American for the straight forward classic.

Tasty food! We're happy that we created own mac & cheese, was amazing. Vegan options very pleasure. We wanna eat here again!
Great Mac & cheese. Restaurant setting is a bit odd. You order on a kiosk
then you walk thru some curtains to pick up your food or sit down. It takes a bit to get the food and when you get it it’s too hot to even taste but delicious. I made my own Mac & cheese with ground beef, olives, mushrooms and cheddar/pepper jack cheese. I could only taste the olives tbh but it was great!
Probably the best mac n cheese I've had so far in my life. I just moved to NYC in August though so the jury is still out on whether or not it's actually the best. 😉 Servers are friendly and accommodating. This is a great place to meet a friend for lunch!
