Always love some good sushi, and decided to try this place. The food to me is average, not exciting. Kind expensive and small portions, sashimi is fresh and decent quality. but it’s NY, so kind of expected. The tempura cheesecake was the highlight of the meal. The service is great 👍.
Interesting little spot that offers some good sushi. Great for a quick snack before a theatre show begins! The staff are friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t suggest ordering wine by the glass here as it might have some slow turnover (ie. oxidize wine). The black miso cod was delicious and if you want to spoil yourself, I’d recommend this. Chocolate mousse cake was also ok…but lacked a “wow” factor….still ate all it though!
Really good Japanese food and fantastic service. It was our pre Broadway show dinner. We were going to Wicked after which was perfectly located right across the street. Natsumi offered free dessert for every ticket to Wicked! (You have to spend at least $35 per ticket for each free dessert.) The tempura cheesecake was phenomenal!
Great little spot to find near Times Squa before a show! As a new Yorker, I tend to avoid Times Square like the plague. But, for when people are visiting or I see a show, I love to find a little place tucked away that I can go to. This is the place! Sushi tastes pretty good, prices aren't bad either for that area. Only qualm is that service tends to be a little slow. Otherwise it's a pretty cool place!
Can I have 100 stars? Holy moly! There are some amazingly unique treats on this menu, and of course I had to try! Green tea gnocchi? Probably easily one of the best gnocchi dishes Ive had! The capers scattered through the dish give a perfectly salty compliment to a savory dish that has the perfect dash of something almost sweet! I will be dreaming about this dish FOR-EVER! Stacy our server was an absolute delight! To top off the meal; dessert a tempura cheesecake, crunchy and just absolutely melts in your mouth!
I will most certainly find myself here again when I visit...if not again before I leave!
The sushi was delicious and the service was good. It is definitely a fancier place. We were late for our reservation but they were very accommodating
We had the tempura rock shrimp and fried chicken appetizer. Both were excellent and we should have stopped there as that was enough food for the both of us.
We also had a couple of mixed drinks (peach one pictured here) and we enjoyed a Sapporo as well.
Shared the maki platter, I wouldn't order the Philly roll again, too much cream cheese and no cucumber, it was just overwhelming. We shared the tempura, don't skip this during your visit - delicious!
Superb place for authentic sushi and nice cocktails!
Chicken Karage, Shrimp Tempura, Sake toro, Hamachi toro, Hamachi, Tuna toro, yellowtail jalapeño with some sushi rice and mushrooms. All items were fresh, tasty and well presented.
Delicious! We visited from outside of Toronto and hadn’t had fresh maki like this in a long time. It met every expectation. Staff were very friendly and accommodating - providing an earlier table than our reservation. We can’t wait to come back when we are in NYC again!!
Nice quiet little place located close to theater district. Presentation of sushi lacked and seafood wasn't as fresh as I'm used to. Pork dumplings were amazing though.
A great restaurant. The friendly service and the excellent and fresh dishes are really to be recommended. Just awesome.
Very good sushi accompanied by great cocktails! The sake flights are great to explore different types of sake. The service and staff are very accommodating as well. Make a reservation if you wish to eat in the main dining room.
Great standard sushi rolls, I’ve been here twice. Bar area is pretty and service was super kind and accommodating. They also have really unique sushi-inspired pasta dishes, like green tea gnocchi, which was surprisingly tasty!
Delicious food. Chicken teriyaki was plentiful and flavorful. Fresh! The sushi was also a winner. Fair prices. Great service. Nice sitting bar across the hall. Only drawback to restaurant was the acoustics...Noise level is high.
We ate here prior to going to a show and it was perfect! Perfect in terms of portion size, tastiness and timing so that we finished the meal comfortably to make our show.
We arrived a bit after 6pm and we didn't have a booking but since there was just the two of us, we were able to get a counter seat. Had no issues. The service was quick and our waiter attentive. We ordered the Matsu chef selection menu for two which came with sake, and we ordered beer and edamame to start. The matsu menu came with 2 appetizers and a sushi and sashimi plate with a roll. The oysters at the start definitely got me excited about what was to come. The second appetizer was a tempura fried roll which I've never had. Really enjoyed the sweet soy sauce and the wasabi cream sauce it was served with. The sushi and sashimi was beautiful. The o-toro sashimi was a thick cut and melted in my mouth. The sake paired complemented this dish perfectly. Then as we we finished our meal content, the waiter brought over a chocolate mousse cake as he picked up on my partner saying it was my birthday. This was a nice surprise. It was a nice light dessert too that left us finishing the meal on a high note, and ready for the show.
Will definitely go back for a pre show meal here again.
As an avid sushi eater from the Jersey shore I was impressed with the quality of sushi! Selection of special rolls wasn’t the best but overall happy with everything . Also the spicy beef meatballs were absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend
Staying at the Amsterdam and went down to eat. I caught happy hour, typically 4-6, but I think Saturday’s they are ready for food orders at 4:30. I had the chicken katsu bites and a roll of spicy tuna. It was very good. It came out to 14.50 because you get a discount for staying at the hotel (you must present you room key). I may even be back for a late night snack.
The food and service was great. Place is clean and sleek. We had the tofu ravioli which was amazing. Does not sound like it would be something tasty, but it was delicious. Next we did a pre-fix menu for restaurant week. We had sushi and crispy pork dumplings. Delish. For entree we had the steak teriyaki with veggies. Fresh and very good. Little heavy on sauce but nothing to complain about.
