My wife and I had fun visiting this clean, nicely organized neighborhood market with quite the selection of prepared foods at the deli and other counters, and even household goods upstairs. We ordered the pastrami sandwich, which tasted quite great! Though, word of caution for the kind-hearted out of town guests and visitors, they will suffer your questions on what is good and what to order, but you'll feel like you're annoying them. It's all business at this counter, no lighthearted banter or courtesies here, which is ironic given an entire panel above the deli dedicated to the 2016 passing of someone that must've been quite a nice guy. If you happen to be in the area, I recommend visiting, but do not recommend a detour during your stay in New York City.
Incredible selection of European food and beyond in the market + great on-the-go options in the bakery next door (with the same name).
Prices on the high side but understandable given the location and variety-uniqueness of the offering.
This place is great, there is a wide range of cheese, jam, coffee.. anything you might need. I got to chat with this great lady about the jam selection. It’s definitely a place the Upper West Side community come together. I bought Branston pickle which i was looking for for a while. Great experience overall!
Zabar’s is a staple in New York, and I see why. Their classic bagel sandwich with smoked salmon is packed with flavor. Definitely grab a pastry too while you’re there.
Quintessentially New York (and probably/arguably the city's best) Deli with delicious breads, dips, cheeses and salads 👌- the Whitefish Pate, Cinnamon Scroll and Magic Bar are my repeat picks ... Brilliant collection point to fill a basket on a ride/wander to a lazy afternoon picnic in Central Park
Quality you can taste and yes, they ship your orders with care too - everything was received in just couple days, packed with care and everything in very good condition.
Truly exceptional. Went for bfast muffins. I had Zabar’s nova special bagel. Smoked salmon trimmings and cream cheese. 17 usd. I had the toasted cinnamon and raisin bagels delicious. The deli is just a sensory overload. Fantastic range of cheese meat and fish. It’s obviously an institution. Only saw one customer staff debate, this is apparently part of the experience. Take the 1 to 86th street. It’s a must.
Rueben panini was delicious as was the cold brew. Also visited the store for a few bits. Great store with a good selection. The hot food and salad counter was great. Corn salad and maple glazed squash are a must. Will make the trip again
This is a foodie's idea of heaven. It's worth travelling to visit the endless variety of different food, cheeses, baked goods- you name it, they got it. In the end, I ordered a bagel from their cafe next door, the classic nova (smoked salmon) with scallion cream cheese and the plain bagel. I have no words. It was out-of-this-world good. Chocolate babka is also heavenly.
Quintessential bagels and lox. Russ and daughters gives you more of a treat. Zabar's is more local and has a large variety since it's at heart, a grocer
Great selection but very expensive. Fish counter took 2.5 hours for lox (not the one in the picture I posted). Recommend for occasional shopping and select items.
A great grocery store with a huge cheese selection, amazing smoked salmon and coffee beans and bread sections. I was really impressed by the variety the store offered. For example the varieties of honey and jams they were selling was impressive. Check out their sandwich shop next door!
The holy land of Jewish appetisers. Somehow, everyone steps in there and instantly becomes an actual or honorary Old Jewish Man. As much a cultural and city institution as you can get, and for good reason. Their salmon slicing is like watching someone carve the Statue of David out of fish. Their bagels are somehow chewy enough to test your jaw but not strain it. Their black and white cookies could settle race relations forever. A legend.
The Upper West Side institution, famous for gourmet foods, bagels, paninis and baked goods. Wholesome New York generational vibes. Good Turkey panini. Matcha latte was overly sweet unfortunately.
Huge grocery with great selection, however I was here for what TURNED out to seem like a "secret menu" of sandwiches. Told this was a great place for pastrami sandwiches, get there and honestly a bit lost finding them. The deli counter has a small sign for this "menu", which gives you HUGE sandwiches freshly made. Even a local there saw it being made and didn't know about it.
I'm not a HUGE fan rye or mustard but the fresh tender meat pulled it through and I liked it (though I stand by it having way too much mustard).
Basically the best Jewish deli ever. Insider tip: the rugelach behind the bakery counter is better than the ones in the bags just outside the counter. Amazing pickles and prepared foods. I’d be happy shopping here once a week
The number one best deli and grocery in the city! Maybe in all of the country. They have everything you could ever want at the grocery. The deli counter makes incredible sandwiches and to go meals. The coffee is well curated and they will do custom roast and blending while you wait! Be sure to visit the upstairs and see all the proper kitchen items. I wish I lived closer as I would go here on a daily basis.
Great food and hardware upstairs. You just have to be patient, because the aisles are tight and can be long. But there is so much variety, it is worth it. They make their foods-soups. A wide variety of olives or cheese to name a few. Different types of salads. Fish. And they have products that are kosher. If a holiday is soon, try to buy ahead of time. I grew up in the neighborhood and Zabar's was a treat.
It’s a NY institution. We shopped here during our stay on the UWS. The bagels and lox are exceptional. Also a wide range of really great products including English teas.
