We've been to Crif Dogs and Please Don't Tell a few times over the years (miss the Brooklyn location). Every visit is consistently amazing.
Our all time favorites are the Everything Dog and the Spicy Redneck with cheese Tots. You can't go wrong, everything on the menu is good. Love the playful vibe of the whole place and their menu. Definitely an East Village staple.
Pretty cool place that I happened to stumble into. Had a pretty nice underground atmosphere that made me feel kinda comfortable(Also had an arcade game there). I got the spicy redneck and was pretty good. I usually eat hot dogs plain with ketchup so this loaded one was different, but in a good way
Crif Dogs in New York is an absolute gem for hot dog enthusiasts. The unique and inventive menu offers a twist on classic favorites. The bacon-wrapped hot dogs are a must-try, and the creative toppings, from cream cheese to pineapple, add an exciting twist. The cozy, retro ambiance gives this place a great vibe. Whether you're a local or a tourist, Crif Dogs is a memorable and delicious experience in the heart of the city.
A very cool restaurant, which has a speakeasy inside of it (please don’t tell). The hotdogs are Yum. Potentially a little bit overpriced but worth it and the tater tots are delicious too. Service was a little bit slow but understand it for a Friday night. Definitely worth a visit if you’re a fan of little bit more upmarket non-vendor street hotdogs.
Worth. It. Can you get a decentish, classic NYC hot dog anywhere around town? Sure. But Crif is unparalleled; not just because you can get an all-beef or vegan dog, but their buns push these into 5-star territory. I don’t know if they’re buttered to perfection then toasted or what, but a great hot dog is not just about the sausage, the bun matters!
Good food is only topped by their excellent customer service (thanks Max) & cool, casual 80s vibe. Didn’t love the country music playing while dining in & the ginger ale was flat but you can’t have it all. Got a hot dog & bottled soda for $9 + tip.
Ask about the speakeasy while you’re there. Supercool experience.
The dogs and tots at crifs were amazing!
Had the truffle tots and the Philly tube steak, they were soooo good, highly recommended and really reasonable priced.
Only shame was that we’d been told that we could eat in the speak easy, but when we tried to get seated there was a 45 min wait.
In town on business, as it were, and my dark passenger started hissing, as they do, "Wouldn't you like to know what the best hot dog in town tastes like?"
As much as I try to resist these unhealthy impulses of mine, I mean, hunger get what hunger want, right? So, I started asking around.
Much to my fortune, the concierge at my hotel suggested Crif Dogs in East Village. Beneath the weight of immense shame and guilt, I quickly found myself in the Village, descending a short flight of stairs and entering what presents itself as a punk rock dive and smells of horrible meat in the best way imaginable.
I was instantly enamored by the way the menu brandishes all the creative renditions one could concoct for a dog of hot, but what was I to choose? So, I did what any sensible tourist would do, and asked the unkempt young man behind the counter to serve me the hot dog he makes for himself. And, boy, was that a good decision!
Let's call it the flaming hot...no, let's call it the quivering orgas...no, let's just call it the Elias Dog. Best damn hot dog I, and you, will ever have! Get yourself to Crif Dogs, breathe in the seedy atmosphere, and treat yourself to an Elias Dog.
You're welcome, Sweet Pea. 😉
Amazing food. Cool place! Was so happy with the experience and will be back for sure. Make sure you check out the specials!
Come back now a year later and still amazing! Never have I had a hotdog with peanut butter or an egg but it all just worked and was amazing

My favorite personal spot for the best hotdog experience you can ever have! A must try. I had an Elote hotdog and my girl got an Everything hotdog, both super delicious!
Also, this place is connected to a speakeasy!
Came here for some late evening hot dogs and ordered the Lil Ma, which consisted of bacon-wrapped meat, peanut butter and potato chips. It was an interesting mix and I liked it. In terms of space, the location has a few tables for group seating and some counter chairs. Certain tables are arcade-themed, which is fun.
The hot dogs were really good but the service was quiet terrible. Cashier seemed to care less that we stood waiting for 10 minutes just to get our order taken, we actually almost left because we thought it was closed. then he seemed stand off-ish when we didn’t give a tip as requested on the register. If you want a tip the owner should pay you better.
Certainly worth a visit for some unique hot dogs...just not the best hot dogs in New York City. It is a typical East Village kind of place. Entrance to a speakeasy called Please Don't Tell is through the old phone booth door. Best part of tho hot dog experience is the fresh soft potato roll.
First experience was fire. Rory held it down at the counter and was the late night eats GOAT also with the good playlist going.
Had the “good morning” which was basically the bacon egg and cheese of hot dogs. Bacon wrapped crif dog (pork and beef) with fried egg and American cheese.
I love how Please Don’t Tell, a speakeasy, is located inside this hot dog restaurant. It is super convenient because after hanging out and drinking at the speakeasy, you can step out of the speakeasy and immediately order food. I only got tater tots when I visited Crif Dogs, but it was very good. Freshly made tots that are nice and crispy - just the way I like it. The service was great and the guy at the front was super nice to my friends and I. It was definitely a great way to end our night of going out.

Nice Jem in the village, super rad that they have a veggie dog, I searched high and low for the best one and was not disappointed.
Dogs.... delicious. Tots... delicious!! Can't remember the last time a place made the tots proper like this. I will definitely go again. The front cashier was amazing and really provided great customer service. I think his name was Rory, Sat night? Appreciate you!!
Greta hot dogs and awesome service! I loved the vibe of this place; it's quirky and unique, plus the hot dogs are delicious, and the buns are magically extraordinary! Highly recommended for you hot dog lovers out there
