Came here off a recommendation and had the -pan fried pork & chives dumplings (8/10)
-Sesame pancake sandwich 17a
Peking duck with scallions & cucumber (10/10) my favourite dish here and done so well. The flavouring done perfect for the Peking duck then paired with the nice crunch from the sesame pancake, and cucumber. This was so good I had to order one to go. The service here was okay due to the staff not being able to speak perfect English as you expect. Then also having a huge table and
Plexi glass to talk over. The food did take a bit of time as they make it fresh on the spot. The inside of the restaurant isn’t the nicest spot, but gets the job done with seating. Definitely check it out for the food. Don’t suggest using the bathroom.
A Taste of Authenticity in Chinatown
I recently had the pleasure of trying out "Venssas Dumpling House" on Eldrigestreet in the heart of Chinatown. Let me tell you, it's as close to an authentic Chinese experience as you can get. Now, that might be a hit or miss for some, but if you're all about the real deal, this is your spot.
The ambiance, I'll admit, isn't exactly Instagram-worthy – it's a bit rough around the edges, and cleanliness is a work in progress. However, when you're here, you're not here for the decor; you're here for the dumplings. And oh, did they deliver! These dumplings were a symphony of flavors that left my taste buds dancing.
What's even better is that it won't burn a hole in your pocket. The price-to-quality ratio is spot on, making it accessible for everyone. Just a little heads up, it's strictly self-service at the counter, and they only accept cash. So, don't forget to hit up the ATM before satisfying your dumpling cravings.
"Venssas Dumpling House" in Chinatown offers an authentic Chinese experience that's not for the decor-conscious, but it's a hidden gem for dumpling lovers. These delicious bites are budget-friendly, and the only catch is they take cash only. So, if you're in the mood for some tasty, no-frills dumplings, give this place a try!
Delicious and simple !
Very affordable , cash only.
I had the noodles which were amazing! Hand rolled and then cooked fresh. I sat with others at communal tables and it was great fun. The dumplings looked amazing too.
Love this place, been coming here since a I was kid. Their dumplings are good but the star is their scallion pancakes, fried in oil and is airy and fluffy, not like a traditional flat one.
Just found out that this store is a chain!
This is absolutely, hands down, one of the best dumpling houses in all of New York City. The staff is incredibly friendly and they give you and make you your food with joy, the food is prepared very quickly, it’s quite amazing. I had a pork sandwich and it was great. It came with carrots and some cilantro too, yum yum yum yum, yum. Yum. YUM. SO YUMMY. In short, I love everything about this place. Google maps confused when finding this place. I didn’t need google maps though. I already knew where it was.
This restaurant is highly recommended.
Cash Only(Atm outside)I’ve been here twice while in the area. I don’t have a recommendation but I do like the spicy option.
I was recommended Vanessa's dumplings by a friend. We had the assorted dumplings and a sesame pork pancake sandwich.
The dumplings were colored per each type which was a great touch. The dumplings themselves were just OK. They were good but nothing fantastic either. The vegetable one is great with Sriracha which I believe is watered down to last longer. The rest the shrimp chicken and pork were better with soy sauce in my opinion.
The sesame pancake was good, tons of carrots in it so be prepared lol.
The noodles looked really good we did not get any but they looked very good, maybe next time.
Local vibes. Good pan fried and boiled dumplings. We got their pork and chive pan fried dumpling and their shrimp boiled dumplings and added the spicy chili oil, garlic, cilantro and scallions. Both dumplings were really good especially the boiled dumplings cause the dumpling dough is thinner. Their kimchee sesame pancake sandwich is not recommended. The stuffing is very sparse and tasteless. They accept cash and credit card but you have to spend over $16 or so to use your card. You wait until they call your number and seats are limited.
The hand made noodles were the best I ever had. They were just the right thickness and texture. I also tried their dumplings and they were just as good. The seating area was not like a fancy restaurant but it was ok to eat in.
Got the spinach and mushroom wontons which were big, filled with spinach and skin was thin. They were tasty and flavored just barely any mushrooms only spinach. I also liked the sesame pancake with veggies. The pancake was fluffy, fresh and had lots of sesame seeds. This location is cash only; for payment with credit card only $15 above
I am not a fan of dumplings. I decided to stop by this place because the restaurant I had in mind was closed.
Don’t know much about dumplings I just ordered randomly. I wished I studied the menu before coming. Overall it was good. I ordered wonton soup, chicken basil dumpling , Dan Dan noodle, and sesame sandwich. I wished they had a good sauce to enhance the taste. Incase you don’t know what to eat you can do what I did just try it.
The dumplings here are reliably so delicious! Make sure to get the spicy sauce add on/ also the sesame bread sandwich is great! I liked it with the veggie slaw personally. Honestly you can’t go wrong with any order!
incredibly delicious dumplings with AMAZING vegan and vegetarian options!! I got vegan spicy beef dumplings and they were just heavenly. The boba tea is also really good considering the price!! CASH ONLY like many restaurants in chinatown, limited seating but public bathroom available
The line here on the weekends is absolutely insane. Unless you just want to spend 45 minutes to an hour waiting in line as people push past you with catering containers and cleaning supplies; GrubHub people leaning over in front of you and hollering for their orders, or backpacks and bags as they squeeze past people in line to get to the packed in tables, don't come in a weekend. There are also line cutters which would be a lot less annoying if you weren't in line for 20 to 25 minutes when they decide to cut in front of you. They were actually people actively trying to bribe the servers to give them their food before everybody else in front of them. The entitlement of some of the patrons is nauseating. Interesting to note, a friend of mine and I went on a Sunday and spent an hour waiting to get our food. The portion size was average and the food was very good. I decided to surprise my friend by picking up an order for him on Monday. We both noticed that our portion size was slightly bigger not to mention that I didn't spend more than 12 minutes in the store total. The food is quite good. I WOULD NOT recommend eating in the establishment. You will get bumped and jostled.
Dumplings never disappoint. Small store but worth the visit.
