Came here on a chilly afternoon for and apple strudel and a hot chocolate. Beware of the line! It wasn’t bad but waiting in the cold kinda sucked. The doorman is SO friendly and great and managing folks. Once inside, the atmosphere is truly unique. Can’t say enough good things about the interiors. The staff was efficient and prompt in getting us seated and ordered. The food was honestly just fine, but worth the overall experience.
Yes you have to queue and yes it's worth it for the beautiful atmosphere and lovely food. There is an additional dining room downstairs that usually has tables open if you'd rather not wait. The Viennese coffee and cakes are lovely, we had the Kirschtorte and an espresso topped with whipped cream. We also had a nice salad and the smoked trout crepes. Perfect for lunch before or after one of the museums
It is always a plesure to come here. Food is delicious and entourage is very elegant and european. Today we wete a little disappointed. We came there and were checked in at 4:10pm. And then 40 min latet we were told that they are having an event and closing at 5pm
And we were rashed to order desert and to pay a bill while all the waitets were moving around and making room ready for an event. That was very uncomfotrable and unpleasant. I think they should not let people in 50 min before closing.

This is an amazing place if you're looking to find a bit of Europe in NYC! Sometimes, you might get lucky and secure a table without a reservation or a long line, but I recommend booking in advance. The food here is incredible - from sausages and soup to desserts, everything is so delicious!
Sabarsky Cafe transcendent , timeless. Whether dining or savoring a coffee in this Viennese coffee house, you’d have no choice but immerse yourself in its authentic and elegant atmosphere within a casual setting
The best Viennese cafe you can find in New York, located just in the corner of the Neue Galerie. When you enter in, right away you can feel the old time atmosphere. Food is delicious, my favorite is trout, and then of course the excellent Austria coffee and superb Apple strudel and Sachetorte. Only problem is the restaurant always has a long line, so plan ahead.
I absolutely love Cafe Sabarsky. The atmosphere is cozy and elegant and the servers are very attentive. Really liked their klimt-inspired cake, but definetly is an expensive spot worth coming to for the vibes over the food. They had some great pianist playing last time I was there. My favorite plan is grabbing a hot chocolate here, heading to the Neue and walking to Central Park. Will be coming again!
It is a fancy place to have a nice brunch or lunch on a Saturday with the family. The wait line is inevitable, as it is a popular spot. The food is ok, nothing too special. The food was a little too salty for us. Kids loved the hot cocoa. They mentioned the flavor was rich and it wasn't too over sweetened. Ambiance is rich, but temperature wise it did feel a bit drafty inside. I visited the gallery with my 2 children and husband prior to coming in.
One of the places you must visit in New York. 1) Go to website and check hours and days of operation. See what options suit your schedule and budget as the place isn't cheap. Try to find one where reservations are available.
2) If you cannot make a reservation and have to stay in line: there 2 lines: one for the caffe another is for museum. Choose the one for caffe. You can go to museum after without standing in another line. Also, while standing in line, visit the shop.
The food simply delicious.
Museum very small and lovely. Contains several works by Klimt including The lady in gold.
Dessert review: Exceptional European desserts with the perfect texture and great taste. Prices are slightly higher but are acceptable ($11-$14) given ambience and European feel of the place. There is usually a bit of a wait (15-20) at peak times to get in (be sure to be in Cafe and not museum line).
They also have a very nice collection of coffees, milkshakes, soups, sandwiches and wines. Of the desserts, we really liked the Apple strudel and Sachertorte.
Worth the wait. The wiener schnitzel was fantastic and the potato/cucumber salad was the perfect complement (I think there might be horseradish?). Not a place to sit and linger -- it's small and there's often a line -- but the food is so good that you'll inhale it and be on your way. I wish I'd saved room for dessert because everything in the display case looked great.
Outstanding establishment and ambience first of all. I was greeted very frequently by the waitress even when I had mouth full of food (and I had appreciated her concern) The bread was cold and stale which is concerning as this is an Austrian (Central European) restaurant. Food was great and everything I had expected.
Chic hidden gem; a sophisticated all day cafe inside the Neue Gallery. Make reservations. Go for the wiener schnitzel or just drinks and desserts. There are so many lovely cakes and Austrian treats.
This place is super European classy.
Part of the museum of German and Austrian art where you can enjoy a delicious dessert with a hot beverage before or after you visit the various rooms.
Reservation is recommended, it gets filled fast
Great cozy dining room inside the gallery. Feels just like a cafe in Vienna.
Entries are great, dessert was a just average.
5 star for the food and ambiance. Bratwurst is juicy, meaty but elegantly so. Attention has been given to the details. Sauerkraut is not a salty and boring one. Even scallion is a nice one and provide nice contrast to an overall slightly oil dish (but again nicely so). Good to pair the dish with a glass of Blaufränkisch from Mittelburgenland.
Sachertorte is certainly classic and I would recommend the Sabarskytorte too. Rum adds complexity and layers to the chocolate cake without overpowering.
We visited on a Saturday night and there is a live piano performance. Service is adequate but not particularly remarkable.
