We were there yesterday, and have been there on past trips. Our waiter was friendly and service was prompt. The dishes we had: pumpkin ravioli, pappardelle bolognese, and gnocchi. All were delicious! The bolognese was outstanding. Recommend profiteroles for dessert! Great place to go before or after a show. You won't be disappointed!
Omg the food here is to absolutely die for I had the carbonara it was the best I have ever had my husband had the calamari, clam ,octopus fettuccine with spicy tomato sauce it’s the best Italian in NY
Excellent food. Drinks, their Old Fashioned cocktail was the best I’ve ever had. And the service goes hand in hand with the food. Very attentive staff.
My friends and I dined on Saturday night after a show; it was amazing! From the perfection of the calamari to the pan seared halibut special with spinach & capers, to the eggplant parmigiana, everything was served hot, at the same time, and tasted delicious. The serve was spot on, and the drinks made exactly as ordered. There are many restaurants in NYC but we will definitely go back to Scarlatto’s on our next visit!
Well Tom and the Scarlatto Team have done it again. They brought very quality Italian food and service to Restaurant Row for a real experience - not just for pre-theatre but for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend the bolognese sauce! We will be back soon!
I don't understand the handful of poor reviews. I've been to the city on a few trips and had many fantastic meals, but this place had to be my favorite! The hostess was friendly and the servers were very attentive, but not annoying. From the first taste of the parsley sauce served with the bread I knew this would be a good meal. My daughter doesn't like anything green and even SHE liked the sauce! The gnocchi was phenomenal! I wished I had room for dessert because I'm sure it would have been good. My only complaint is that the restaurant is not in Massachusetts! I was only there yesterday and I already want more gnocchi!
Really good spot. We sat at the bar and ate. Kareem was the bartender, very good service. Good was great, had the veal and the carbonara pasta. The inside was nice, clean and not too loud considering the general location.
Stopped by on a Monday night, which allowed us to get a table immediately sans reservation. Three of us had the prix fix offering (29.95 for app, entree and dessert). The pesto sauce/dip that came with bread good enough to bathe in and the fava bean soup was spectacular. Also tried the caesar salad (mussels were first choice, but they were apparently too popular and no longer available) which was a bit of a disappointment. Two of us had veal scallopini and one had the sea bass. All were exceptional. Perfect tiramisu brought the meal to a delicious conclusion. Though very good overall, our only regret was not trying g the pasta special of the day, which we watched in culinary mouth-watering awe as it was prepared inside a hollowed out cavern of a Parmesan wheel.
Amazing food and service! I had the gnocchi and my husband had the bacon carbonara, both were outstanding! Our server and the other staff were such a pleasant change in this fast paced area.
Delicious homemade pasta and great service. Wonderful wine list too.
Great pre-theater dinner. Great place for a drink in dinner. Atmosphere was good - a bit upscale - was happy to bring my wife there - but not too over the top formal.
Wife and I both had pasta plates and both were great tasting a reasonably priced. Total bill with cocktail and dinner and spit dessert was under $100 for 2.
I would go back
Wonderful! They knew we were in a hurry, got us in and out! I got the pumpkin/ricotta ravioli. Best Italian meal I've ever eaten!
The staff is very nice, location was great, and the food (aside from being reasonably priced) was GREAT. Upscale look with great food and portions... The minestrone was fantastic and if it wasn't because their fantastic pasta filled us up, we would have opted for dessert. Def coming here again for dessert prior to leaving the city and I would definitely recommend :)
Great, Reasonably-priced Post-theatre Italian. Went to Scarlatto with my wife and mother-in-law after seeing a show. Just happened to walk past as we were looking for a late-seating dinner and noticed the Zagat and Michelin stickers in the window. Glad we did, because it was excellent.
I read a couple of reviews that were not pleased with the service, but our waiter was very kind and attentive. I'm not a fan of being checked on every 20 minutes, and the waiter came by once while we were eating, then see if we were interested in dessert. It was a happy medium between being ignored and being smothered.
Being a fan of veal, I was pleased to see that one of the specials was a veal and spinach tortellini dish. It came smothered with a blend of italian cheeses, and the pieces of pasta were perfectly oven-cooked, showing the patches of char that give the nice depth of flavor and a little bit of crunch to contrast with the tenderness of the pasta and veal.
I wanted to try one of the desserts, but I was so full after wolfing down the excellent pasta dish that I couldn't find any room for it. Speaking of being full--one thing I thought was nice about Scarlatto was that they will serve a half-portion of any dish for a reduced price if you don't feel like gorging yourself on top-notch Italian food.
I will definitely try to make it back here on my next visit to New York. Great flavors for a reasonable price.
Food was delish Risotto awesome Server was miserable
Food was good. Service was terrible. Waiter waited to see what language we spoke, he stood at the table and we said "hello and hi" and still did not tell us anything about the menu. We said dis u want a drink order and he said "oh I wasn't sure what launguage". He did not return to check on us during the meal.
We had a wonderful meal. I ordered off the theatre menu: appetizer, entree and dessert. The veal scallopine was delicious. Great place to go before the theatre.
Good food, Good value. A comfortable setting in the Theater Disntrict without those outrageous prices, some of the Grand Dames of restaurant row should take a cue from this place. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I had the Butternut Squash Ravoli and it was wonderful. The only thing I will say is to watch the bar bill, that's where they make their money. But really watch the bill because we saw they charged 2 different prices for the same drink, and one drink we ordered came with all ice, sent it back for more of the drink.
Fantastic lunch special. $14.95 two course lunch was a great deal and very good. Reminds me very much of the food I ate in Italy. Beef carpaccio, mushroom pasta and osso bucco were good as was house chianti. Truly has to be one of the best lunch deals in the city. (Sandwich, drink and chips at a deli will cost you nearly as much).
AMAZING! Myself nor my girlfriend are vegetarian but we ordered vegetarian dishes (gnocchi & pumpkin ravioli) and HOLY RAVIOLI it was so amazing! Melted in our mouths. Literally food that makes you smile and your heart happy. The drinks were also amazing. We had some of the martinis and wine. The service was wonderful and the staff is so sweet and welcoming. We truly felt like we were treated like family during our short time there! NYC isn’t somewhere you usually return to the same restaurants but I most certainly will return here!
The food is just ok not much of choices. They have lots of wine choices. service is good, atmosphere is ok. Just a regular NYC Italian restaurant.
Looking for a great little restaurant before the theater…. Look no further. Amarone Scarlatto has been serving delicious Italian food for years. Service is always impeccable. Chicken Parmesan is one of the best around. Portions are big and prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. I just love this place.
We had dinner here before going to a Broadway show, which was very close to the theater we were going to. It was also my sister's birthday and they did up her dessert plate with a candle and happy birthday on the plate. The food was very good but our waiter was really what made it a great experience. He was attentive, helpful and patient. The pear salad was excellent as a starter. The rest of our dishes were good but I'm picky when it comes to Italian food. I tasted the salmon dish and thought it was delicious.
This is such a delightful restaurant right in the theater district. It is charming and really lovely. Very warm and inviting on the inside. We went there for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint at all! The service was friendly, knowledgeable and can only be described as impeccable! They were very customer focused on each table.
Every plate we had was fabulous. They add their own twist like hot cherry peppers with my chicken and sausage entre! Yum! I am rarely able to finish a plate but this is so good I finished every bite. The wine list was extensive including "by the glass".
I think we found a favorite place now that we are back to the theater! A thanks to all the staff for making our anniversary so special!
WOW! This place was phenomenal! Took my wife here for a nice date night while visiting nyc and came across this gem! Amazing nyc food for a reasonable price!
First-The restaurant was very clean. Small, but had a cozy, romantic and pleasant vibe to it. It smelled like fresh cooked food the moment you walked in. I made a reservation on open table and got there right on time and was promptly seated 5-10 minutes. While you wait they have a small bar available for drinks which I highly recommend! The staff was probably the best part. Extremely professional, funny, and you can tell they work hard. They all did an amazing job!
Second- the food was out of this world! They have a decent sized menu with a lot of amazing dishes to choose from. Me and my wife started off with some salads. I got a Caesar and she got the same. You can tell it’s fresh homemade dressing and it wasn’t to heavy portioned, but was enough to cover the whole salad. For our meals I got the Fusilli Norcia (sweet and hot sausage) and it was honestly top 10 best Italian dishes I’ve ever had. It was a great portion size but not to much. It exploded with flavors and just fresh tasting ingredients. It was presented beautifully. My wife got the pappardelle bolognese and I think that was even better! Generous portion size and it tasted incredible. It was hard not to steal food off her plate! For dessert we got tiramisu and chocolate cake which both were delicious. And ended it with some hot coffee and cappuccino and they were great!
My only issue was that there was a good amount of time between courses, so be prepared to wait a little. But for how good everything was. It was worth the wait!
I HIGHLY recommend!
Such friendly staff not to downplay the food. Everything tasted amazing. I would highly recommend this place.
This was the most professional food experience I've ever had. Every dish was absolutely fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly, the pasta dishes were sublime, and every aspect of every dish was the best it could be.
It was my friend's first time crying after eating a dish because he wished there was more to eat. That's an amazing accomplishment.
I will always recommend this place to everyone.
What a find. The owner is beyond kind and goes out of his way to make you feel like a regular. I lived in Manhattan a long time and finding the best shrimp is tough and his was perfect.
Thanks for a great meal and deserts
Welcome from Tom started this dinner off on the right foot! We all ordered salad and main course. All fresh and tasty! The photos speak for themselves! Nice outside seating in front of the restaurant and the help was very attentive! Give it a try... you'll be happy! We were!
