Walking into the Russian Tea Room is like walking into a magical fairytale. The interior held surprises around every corner and is worth the trip just to see it in person. If they are serving in the bear lounge, ask to be seated in there, so pretty and creative. The service was impeccable and aimed to please. The food was excellent, and exceeded my expectations. The wild mushroom and goat cheese blintchik with ligonberry was both savory and sweet at the same time and definitely a treat for your tastebuds. The beef stroganoff was so tender, it melted in your mouth and was seasoned perfectly. Dessert was by far my favorite. I had the chocolate hazel nut mousse cake, and it did not disappoint, if you are a chocoholic as am I, you would think you died and went to heaven. Although a bit pricey, I feel it was worth every penny and will definitely be going back. All in all a fantastic dinner.
This has been on my list of places to go and was so happy to finally get there.
We were seated in the Bear and Tree Room. Loved the atmosphere. I had planned on ordering from the regular menu, but decided to order from the Mother's Day one instead. The food was delicious. My friend ordered the onion soup and it was the best we ever tasted (he shared). My lamb was great, the Kobe Hamburger was cooked to perfection, and the slider platter, with salmon, veal, and Kobe were good too. So often you go to a famous place and the food is just so-so, but everything was excellent. Now I want to make sure I can go to the special tea some time in the near future. It was great!!!
We had friends from out of town, the Russian Tea Room did not disappoint.
The decor is beautiful, our server, Olga, was very knowledgeable with the food and drinks. We had an enjoyable meal and tried three different vodkas. I would highly recommend it for a classic New York experience.
Walking into the Russian Tea Room is like walking into a magical wonderland. We were seated in the bear lounge and to our surprise it is as beautiful as as downstairs. The interior held surprises every where. Our delight was seeing goldfish swimming inside the huge bear sculpture as well as the "egg tree". The service was outstanding from the moment we walked through the doors. The food was excellent, and exceeded my expectations. The wild mushroom and goat cheese blintchik with ligonberry was both savory and sweet at the same time and definitely a treat for your tastebuds. The tea room Borscht was delicious. The beef a la stroganoff was so tender, it melted in your mouth and was seasoned to perfection.
As any other chocoholic, I had Chocolate Mousse for dessert and it did not disappoint.
From beginning to end our dining experience was FANTASTIC.
I'd definitely recommend and I'm looking forward to my next visit.
The best borscht I have ever eaten. Excellent food and very atþentive , courteous service.
The decor and style is very opulent and Imperial/Tsarist Russian.
It made a fantastic last-night dinner for us before returning home to England after a great stay in NY.
Will definitely come here again and highly recommend to others.
Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. The staff were awesome, the food to die for and the atmosphere was perfect. A great place to celebrate a special occasion.
A wonderful place to sit back and enjoy how the other half live. Tea and cake will set you back thirty quid pp, but the pomp and atmos is so worth it. The history and the decor alone is worth the price. And the bill of fare is magnificent. A must do in NY.
The decor is stunningly beautiful. The atmosphere is stellar. The cheesecake was phenominal. Top notch place. I’ve been wanting to visit for decades, and it did not dissapoint. Was the highlight of my NYC trip. I highly recommend.
We had a delicious brunch; the service was first class in every way, with staff being very attentive, but unobtrusive. Our food was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented.
Excellent place. The drinks and food were amazing. We were very well looked after. I recommend!
Highly recommend the Russian Tea Room. NYC Restaurant Week menu was great and service was excellent.
Perfection. The food. The staff. It is a must!!! Couldn’t have been happier
This is a very upscale restaurant, next to Carnegie Hall, as it corresponds. We went there for Thanksgiving. As such, the menu is semi-fixed, meaning you choose from several options for appetizer, entree and dessert. The food was indeed very good, the service very good, but I have to say that for $200/person you really expect something out of this world. And, again, this was very good but not out of this world. Otherwise, the atmosphere is fantastic, it really seems out of a movie set, both on the first floor as well as the second one. It would be interesting to try the "normal" menu and see how it fairs. Having said all this, it is certainly an icon in NY so, if you don't mind the expense, I certainly recommend it.
The Russian Tea Room is an icon of New York City; a visit there really transports you to another version of the city. The atmosphere is old world glamor, and everything is over the top in the best way.
A friend and I had the Afternoon Tea service. She arrived quite late to our tea date, and instead of making me feel uncomfortable about the wait, the server brought me a glass of champagne on the house. It was such a sweet gesture and made me feel much more relaxed (naturally).
Favorite items during our tea service were the curried chicken salad sandwiches, the Croque Monsieur, and the Caviar Tasting on blinis, though everything was so refined and delicious.
Overall, quite an experience, and highly recommended if you’re looking for something special to do around Midtown or Central Park.
What a beautiful establishment! The restaurant is located near Carnegie Hall and upon entry, you’re absorbed into a different and vintage world. The decoration is beautiful and our waiter is amazing and attentive. We were pleasantly surprise to find that we dont all have to do afternoon tea unlike other tea room so for party of 4, opted for 2 afternoon tea and 2 entree instead.
We find savory and sweet options from afternoon tea tower so so; though the beef stroganoff was impressive! The beef was tender and full of flavor - would come back just for this dish. Also appreciate the waitress going above and beyond in splitting our entree for convenience in sharing without even having to ask.
Overall, a pleasant afternoon experience.
I had dinner here with couple friends recently. I am not a fan on chandeliers, gold rim old money charm decor, but the dinning room is quite nice and comfortable.
The service was not up to par that night. Although our server came by a few times to ask us how was everything, but never noticed our glasses of water were empty. We had to point it out and asked for refill.
Food was decent, the Blinchik was good and Red Borsch pretty tasty. We also tried the Salmon Salad, and Boeuf a la Stroganoff (Braised Short Ribs) which was delicious.
The chocolate Mousse Cake and Cheese Cake were good and not too sweet.

We enjoyed an amazing dinner before the play. The service is excellent. We loved every minute of our experience and the food
This was my first time doing a high tea. I really thought it was a fun experience. Our waiter was good. We wish we would have been told a little more about how to order.
The prices are very steep $95 Per Person. The value of the food didn't match the price. I wasn't impressed with the taste of some of the sandwiches.
The tea room is beautiful. We also asked to see the private room for some pictures bit our waiter forgot.
This would not be a place I would frequent. It's more of a one and done situation.
Beautiful place!! We had afternoon tea, and the sandwiches and scones were delicious! The small pastries were a bit too sweet for me. Price are high($90/p.p.), but you can feel like having a short trip to imperial Russia!
It was such a good lunch. Mixed basket of bread, tea, blinchik and stroganoff were all good. I will visit again to try other dishes.
Great experience for a special occasion. We sat upstairs. I recommend a reservation. We had seven people. Service is second to none and food was great. Try something different. We had appetizers, a main course, and dessert. The stroganoff is great, as is the lamb chops. There's not a bad choice. Don't skip dessert. The desserts are divine, and the choices were nice. Sorbet and creme brulee were especially good. Fruit crepes with ice cream was my favorite. This is really a special occasion place but you could go for any reason. I would definitely go back when in NYC.
I visited the Russian Tea Room for the first time. I enjoyed the afternoon tea service on a Sunday. We made reservations a few days in advance, but at that time, I don't think we would've had a problem getting a table if we didn't. It was a more casual atmosphere than I thought. My party was dressed in business casual clothing, and there were other diners dressed a little fancier or just in a T-shirt and shorts. For the afternoon tea menu, I liked their options. I'm not a fan of the traditional UK sandwich varieties that tend to be heavy on the mayo, dill, egg, prawns, etc., so I went with their vegetarian tea service, which was more to my liking. Many places don't offer that option. The selection of tea wasn't vast but the tea was very good. I have to admit that I was underwhelmed with the desserts, but that may be due to the vegetarian option I chose. I would probably rate the food a 3.5 but since that wasn't an option, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, since I liked the vegetarian sandwiches and tea. The servers were very attentive and our waiter was very helpful and professional. I would consider the Russian Tea Room if you were looking for a casual and interesting spot for afternoon tea.

This place is right next to Carnegie Hall. We had already finished lunch and we just wanted some tea. This spot was perfect. Away from all the noise, dark, ornate and air conditioned. Feels exotic. Our tea pot cost is $10. Food is expensive and you can enjoy a high tea party for $130, or fancy $22 desserts. But you can also just have tea and enjoy the experience. We had an hour before the show and this was a perfect spot for a cuppa:)
Imagine you were born a Russian Oligarch and you have a penchant for real silverware, palatial dining halls, caviar, and (albeit overpriced) perfectly brined martinis. That’s what the Russian Tea Room is like. You’ll be served by serious but kind staff donned in old fashioned high end suits with tails. You’ll pay too much for your drinks but you won’t regret it. The food is quite affordable and delicious.
Let me say, the place is very unique, beautiful and rich. Soaked with Russian spirit and charming music. However, the food is ok. I can't say it was not tasty but nothing special. The boirsh was too sweet. The herrings sample too soar. The duck and Bestroganof were ok.
