The food was delicious and authentic. I'm from Ohio and it's very hard to find Latin food other than Mexican and to have found this hidden gem was quite a delight. Not to mention the people were fantastic!

I had the roast chicken with yellow rice, veggies and plantains. It was awesome and the service was great. The owner wanted us to try his potatoes salad on the house. It was so good. Definitely going back.

This place has the best Cuban food I've had in a long time. The pork was amazing. The chicken was moist and delicious. Also the service is outstanding very welcoming. Manny makes the best cordadito. Lets not forget the Congri YUMMY.

5.0 star rating 8/24/2016 My first time here...can't believe I didn't know this little gem was there. Food delicious... all the staff was super friendly, professional and helpful. I got the yucca with peppers and onions, maduros and the juiciest, savory grilled chicken I've had in forever. Portions were generous. Price VERY reasonable. Clean, open, nice atmosphere. We went early to beat lunch crowd... good thing because as we were leaving, the line was out the door. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We stopped by La Cocina for Monday lunch. It’s a small store in the busy downtown area of Newark, parking is really really hard to get. There 5-6 tables inside the store too dine-in, it’s self served, not so fancy esthetic wise. The line starts right at the door, luckily no one was in front of us. They served it chipotle style, you get to pick the items for your plate. The have white, brown, bean rice, vegetables, chicken/beef stew, baked chicken, salmon and few other items. The have ready made empanadas too. The price so reasonable, between $9-$12 for a decently large portion. We tried the chicken stew, baked chicken and salmon. Everything tasted like freshly homemade. Both brown and white rice were excellent quality. The stew chicken almost melted before even I bite it. Salmon was cooked to perfection, and baked chicken has this lovely brown skin with beautiful cooked inside. This is a hidden in Newark, and for sure will be a regular spot for our lunch.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and super affordable. The owner even stopped by afterward to ask how everything went. Be sure to try the salsa that goes with the empanadas. Delicious!

I go here A LOT! To be honest I go here about once every two weeks... It's always good. While I will say they can get busy; the line moves quickly and if you have to wait the food will never disappoint you. Also if you ever have the privilege of being in Manny's presence you're winning so there's that. I usually scarf my food down too fast to remember to take a photo so I'll have to add more pics as time goes on but enjoy what's attached for now lol.

This is a great take out spot! They have delicious coffee, and the rice and beans are very tasty. I got arroz con gandules, white rice, beans, fried plantains, and a cafe con leche. I'll definitely be back for more. The owners are very nice and happy to explain the different dishes.

I wanted to write an honest review of this restaurant. So, I work 10 minutes away and wanted to try something different, and I went online and found this place. I always read the reviews and they were all excellent. Three of my colleagues and myself walked here and got food to go. There were so many options and they give you a lot for your money. When we all got back to the office, we couldn't finish the food. It was so salty. The empanada, pork, rice, salmon. The only thing I could eat were the maduros. I was so upset because all of the reviews said this place was good so I couldn't understand why we all thought the food was salty. I didn't go back for a few weeks until I was in the mood for maduros. I decided to try again and ordered the chicken stew, rice, and maduros. It was very good! I don't know if it was just an off day, but I went back for a third time and it was very good as well. I'm unsure if the chefs do a little taste test before serving since they make the same food everyday and are used to the recipe, but maybe you can taste it just before serving to make sure it's not too salty. I like supporting local business and I will be back.

I loved this place! I ordered the salmon, which came with 2 sides. I chose yellow rice and broccoli. Very fresh and delicious. The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, too.
