I love this place...have been going for over 40 years!!! Always the best food!
My family has been going to The Crab Cooker for a very long time. I'm part of the 3rd generation to fall in love with it. Even though our family isn't in Newport anymore we always have to stop in when we visit. Their crab cakes, clam chowder, and smoked fish are hands down the best around. The restaurant is very cozy and the eclectic decor never gets old. Can't wait to get my fix next time I'm in town :)
It's been years since I have been but man this place was a staple for my family as a kid, going to the beach every weekend and grabbing fresh shrimp and crab 😎 I wish I would give you 100 stars!!
This is our favorite seafood restaurant. We drive in from Rancho Cucamonga just for lunch. We love the chowder.
My favorite place to eat for 30+ years. Started out going to Newport now go to the Tustin Crab Cooker
Loved this place!! It’s so eclectic and the service was wonderful!!!! I think our servers name was Peggy, (I’m sorry if I got it wrong) and she was so friendly. My husband even told her he liked her smile. 😁 Service means everything to me and she was great!!! Thanks for a great experience. First time having Manhattan chowder and I liked it. My husband loved his crab and shrimp cocktail too.

Haven't been disappointed yet! Except for the parking..! Come one NPB give us a break!
My favorite restaurant growing up around Balboa Island in the summertime!!!
We've been eating in that resturant since the day it opened.
Fabulous...
Lovely amazing place !!!!!!
This definitely has a lot going for it from authentic decor to great service. I enjoyed the food and would recommend coming here. I'm just not at a 5 on the food for this sort of beach/seafood fare. I only tried the clam chowder and cod skewers though, so for all I know there more expensive stuff might have impressed me more.
After all these years, it's nice to know some things don't change. The Crab Cooker has been an institution in Newport Beach for decades and is a "must visit" for first timers and veteran visitors alike. First time here in over two years and did not disappoint. Yummy food and friendly service. Cost about $60 per person, with appetiser and beer/wine plus entree. Funky harbor and nautical decor on the inside with fresh fish cooked over an open fire. Yes, still served on paper plates and plastic utensils, just part of the charm. Worth the visit. Make sure to look up when inside to see all the stuff, including the big great white shark hanging from the ceiling.
Fun place for seafood in Newport. Good food but my shrimp and scallop was a tiny bit salty but otherwise very good. Servíce was fast and friendly. They also have retail sales.
We were greeted by very friendly host and , seated quickly. The food was amazing. I really love their mash 😍. Skewers are very meaty, slaw is made different (I don’t eat everyone’s) but I loved it.
Over 50 yrs since my 1st visit, The Crab Cooker still lives up to it's famous reputation! I had the mouth watering Scallops and I'm still talking about them 1 week later. The service was swift and very friendly! Atmosphere is ideal! The 4 of us all loved our savoring our meals. Well worth the prices!
Great seafood here!! And, my waitress was awesome!! I accidentally timed dinner right as soon as I was done, I strolled out for the sunset, just as it was going to happen.
We had calamari, Smoked Fish Combination and Crabed Cakes with mashed potatoes. It looked like the amount of food was little less than what we were expecting. Overall, it was okay.
"Eat lots a fish." That's all you need to know about this place. It's about a short walk from the main beach area - which I like because it's less hectic. The staff is great and the food is good. I'd recommend the clam/mussels. I had their clam chowder but prefer the creamier version. I would come back here again given the opportunity.
Fresh clean tasting fish ! Smoked salmon was thicker than expected! A little disappointed in the food presentation with it being served on paper plates.
Iconic seafood restaurant in the middle of Newport Beach. A little touristy and the prices are high. $30 for half a Dungeness crab and sides. But it's fun and good.
I love The Crab Cooker. It was closed for several years due to damage which required nearly complete reconstruction of the building. They reopened about two years ago. I'm glad to see them back in business offering some of the best sea food you will find, at very reasonable prices.
Recently moved to this area and walked to Crab Cooker for dinner. Eclectic decor. We ordered crab cakes and mussels and oysters for appetizers. Crab cakes were good and not great only because they were fried. I come from the east coast and we have pan seared crab cakes which I like better. Personal choice. I loved the oysters and he loved the mussels. So we both ate what we wanted. I had Alaskan code on a skewer dinner with rice pilaf and mashed potatoes. I liked it. My son got scallops on the skewer with mashed potatoes and coke slaw. He loved his meal. For those who don’t like mesquite flavored smoked meats, this is not the place for you.
I was hoping for more in for food quality. Good, but not close to the best. Excellent service!
Great place for lunch! We drove from San Diego and definitely we would do it again.
Every product is fresh and with excellent flavour.
We tried the clam chowder, the scallops, the lobster and the crab and we all loved each plate. Each one includes 2 extras, we chose mashed potatoes and salads.
For drinks we chose beer and sparkling water which was free.
We waited like 15 minutes for a table for three at 2pm. There was people waiting, but there was space to wait inside.
Our waiter was nice and attentive.
We spent like 30 dollars each one.
The place is very nice, has many details and is perfectly decorated for the kind of food.
Went in on a Sat evening. No wait at all for a table. Parking is difficult to find. Street parking only.
Food is great, good seafood quality. They only have the red clam chowder, not my favorite, but it was tasty.
The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, so if you don't want to pay extra, make sure to come in before 430pm.
Excellent food and very nice, polite and professional staff. I have been going to the Crab Cooker for the past 28 years and have always had great seafood and an excellent experience. Great restaurant for families and adults for a very nice meal and experience in California.
The service was great! Letty was so helpful and made us feel so welcomed. The crab cakes were good. The clam chowder was even better. Being from San Francisco, we have some great chowders, and this was def. up there, especially for a Manhattan style.
Omg THE FOOD it was simply delicious!!! The staff was the kindest and the place just the warmest!!!
This is a very quaint establishment with meter pay parking. Very nice drive up and curb appeal.... For some reason not many options for side dishes but it did the job, I substituted my sides for salad. I much enjoyed my combination plate and Crab (Crab legs are not pre sliced, so I did not enjoy doing the work). However after that you can walk your food off to the pier.... Very Pleasant!!!!
