This is a great place for a special celebration or a casual dinner out. The food is thoughtfully prepared, presented and delicious. We had the Braised beef ribs, Blackened Ahi, Filet mignon and Mahi Mahi. All delicious!! I highly recommend Roy's. Bon Appetit.

The restaurant was roomy and the tables are designed to be comfortable and cozy. Our party brought our own wine and the restaurant provided cork service for a fee. We sampled the sushi and calamari appetizers which were excellent. The server Jessica knew the menu well. She suggested various dishes based upon our preferences and moved our dinner along nicely, timing the food service perfectly. We tried the shellfish trio and another dish that had 4 different fish each prepared uniquely. The Scallops entree only had 4 pieces which was disappointing but never the less was delicious. The 1988 martini with lychee fruit was a must try and we sampled the chocolate Souffles and pineapple upside down cake for dessert. The prices were on the high side but overall the experience got 4 stars with the portions and pricing losing one star.

Nothing beats the Butter Fish (aka Black Cod). I've tried a variety of their fishes and it's the best. Also I highly recommend you order the crab fried rice as an appetizer. It's amazing! Their lobster bisque is also wonderful.

Great place to eat. Different type of food and good taste. The service was very slow and the server forgot to bring the drinks in more than one occasion. I think is only one kitchen and same servers for Roy's and the other restaurant next door. I noticed the kitchen and servers were busy, but only two tables eating. I'm not a seafood fan, but I really enjoyed the dinner.

I went here for a meeting. I have seen Roy's around California and Hawaii but never went in before. The food is pretty good, not extraordinarily spectacular but tastes good and well prepared. The fishes were all fresh and high quality. This is more of a higher end Hawaiian cuisine, but I prefer low end Hawaiian food like mixed plates and loco moco.

My parents and I ate here because of a free dinner seminar. My father and I had the same thing (Peanut Butter Chicken with some vegetables and another item I am not too familiar with). My mom had salmon and rice with vegetables. My dad said that he did not like the taste of the chicken. He said he felt like he was eating a tire! Lol! I mostly had the same opinion. My mom thought the chicken tasted microwaved (But what can you expect from a free meal)! Aside from SPRINKLED peanut butter sauce, the meal also looked and tasted like a microwaved dinner. My mom's salmon was okay. I kinda wish I had ordered that instead. ...No offense to Mr. Yamaguchi (the chef the restaurant was named after) but seriously! You call yourself a chef? Edit: The extra star is only for the restaurant's look and ambiance. NOT the food quality!...Also the staff's attentiveness and friendliness.

The service was literally 5 star. We were in town for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone (even the owner) was so hands on and so attentive. The food.....AMAZING!!! The drinks...AMAZING!!! The servers, managers, and owner.....AMAZINGGGG!!! Whenever we vacation in Newport Beach Roy's will definitely be first on our list to visit.

HMost recent visit was great! Came here to celebrate dude's birthday as he really likes the food here. We started off with a drink at the bar since we were lucky and made it before happy hour ended, offered 7 days a week. We also got the wagyu burger with a small side salad substituted for fries $10. The burger came with a nice size Patty and a fried egg, very authentic Hawaiian and extremely tasty. This burger is probably my favorite item on the happy hour menu. We then got transferred over to our dining table for dinner. Order the three-course Korean fusion menu that they have going on right now for $40. We started off with the shrimp and pork gyoza, they were very tasty and that dipping sauce they came with was unique and had a interesting twist of flavors. for our main course we ordered the mahi-mahi fish but it came out over cooked in a bit dry, our waitress was super nice and allowed us to change it for the loco moco instead. And that dish came with a large piece of short rib cooked to perfection and we loved it. We also got the chocolate lava cake for dessert and I've had this multiple times and love it every single time. Our waitress was super awesome, attentive, fast and efficient, and super friendly. We loved her. Highly recommend! Been here many time for happy hour and the food is pretty good. The rolls are hard and cold though and I wouldn't recommend those. Dinner options are pretty good and the service is very attentive.

Food was outstanding. The only negative was that the timing on the entree was a bit short it would have been nice to have had a few minutes between the appetizers and entree. Other than that the food was terrific the service was as well.
