Food was pretty good. LOVED the roll. The fried cheese curds with dill sauce were delicious. This was my first time eating german food so that may be part of why I wasn't massively impressed
This place is really fun. The house beers are amazing. Service is a little hit and miss but pretty good overall. The menu is not overwhelming. The pretzel bread is a must try. Everything we ha e ordered there has been very good
Obviously a great place to watch some football. Although the TVs aren't huge, there are 8 or so. Each table really has its own TV. And there were lots of OU fans hootin' and hollerin' that day. Extremely loud. We were almost yelling at one another at our own tiny table. However, our visit included a table of 30 on the other wall. Noise forgiven.
Food was excellent. A definite are the jagerfries - the super crispy fries held up to the mushroom&bacon gravy and oodles of cheese. So salty, so crispy, so good. Could have eaten that for a meal. Oktoberfest pretzel is a must. Huge soft, lightly salted pretzel with bleu cheese and mustard dips. Fresh from the oven. These two appetizers made us three almost too full for our meals! Schnitzel sandwich, reuben, and jager roast. All very good. Schnitzel was crispy, crunchy with a refreshing lemon hit. Reuben was hot and toasty, though we all agreed it could have used more meat. Jager roast with gravy was awesome. Pork was a wee bit dry, but that gravy totally made up for it. Spaetzle I think would have fared better with a saute after boil. But we really enjoyed the food over all. Service was very pleasant, our drinks hardly unfilled. Surely we will return.
I COULD PUT THE HUNTER'S GRAVY ON EVERYTHING. Seriously.. Schnitzel, spaetzel, hunter's gravy- put it in your mouthhole and you will have no regrets.
The wife and I came here for a date night and now I wonder why we've not been before. The sausage plate appetizer was great, the jagerschnitzel was very very good, the sauerkraut was top notch, and the King's weizen is now my favorite beer. Wow!
We will be back for sure.
Great, authentic German food. The beer was outstanding. As great as any of the food I had during my trips to Germany. Even my children who are picky eaters really enjoyed it. This place will be a frequent stop when we are in Norman.
This place has one of the most unique German menus I have ever seen. Even if traditional German food isn't your fave you will probably find something here to love.
Service has varied a little bit from one trip to the next, but has never been bad. Employees have friendly attitudes even if they are a little slow at times.
Great spot and Excellent Beer.
Das Bootcamp combines a friendly staff, good atmosphere, fast service, and, of course, stellar food. All in all, we left very happy and very full. While German food is not something I would eat daily, Das Bootcamp is definitely a place I will visit again.full review: gastrogents tumblr com
Always a welcoming atmosphere along with great savory German food. The crafted beer is the cherry on top. A good daytime replacement for Royal Bavaria their nighttime offering which is also incredible.
Food and beer were great. We had jägerschnitzel and jäger roast. Both were fabulous. Fun drinking beer out of a boot shaped glass. Will definitely go back.
Great feel of a place, and friendly staff. You can feel like you could spend a lot of time in here. Naturally good beer can make mediocre food better, but the food is good here on its own. I felt a couple dishes were a little bland, but that seems to be on par with the nature of the cuisine. I also enjoy being able to order delivery from them on OrderUp. I recommend.
When I was a kid, I got free school meals, including breakfast. While the stereotype is that cafeteria food is totally grody, I happened to love it. It was an absolute pleasure to get to school few minutes early in order to grab a nice warm bowl of oatmeal and toast or eggs and sausage. It was a real treat that, to this day, I still doff my cap in your direction, taxpayers.
Love Das Boot! Their jager fries are to die for! Usually go during the late lunch hour so I have not really seen the place real busy, which I don't understand b/c the food and beer are excellent. Only complaint I have would be that the Spatzle has been lacking in flavor recently. Usually comes in a beer gravy but you could barely tell it was there last couple times. If your server ends up being Aaron listen and follow any suggestions he makes. He has yet to lead us wrong.
NORMAN, Okla. -- Das Boot Camp is located in a very pedestrian-friendly downtown Norman on the corner of Main Street and North Crawford, and serves up some of the most mouth-watering German food you’ve ever had. . The prices are surprisingly low, considering the quality of the food: under $10 for anything on the menu. From their Weiner Schnitzel, Jäger fries, white lightning sausage, handmade potato salad, Munich pork roast, a healthy selection of bratwursts and sausages, and soups/salads, to their wide variety of hand-crafted beers, Das Boot Camp is a must when visiting Norman.
Wonderful, authentic German food! Cheyenne provided excellent service. One of the best additions to the Main Street fare! I will become a regular.
Royal Bavarian's little brother!!!
My wife & I stopped by in Sunday afternoon for a late lunch and loved it!!! Same great food as their other family owned German restaurant, the Royal Bavarian! We will definitely be back...soon!!!
One of my Favorites. I love this place. The food is always great and I always have great service. And beer in a boot. Love, love, love it.
Fun place and great food.. My wife and I were craving some German food so we decided to check this place out. We are glad we did. The beer, food and service were all great. We will definitely be back.
Heaven is in Norman OK. Go early and hungry. Happy Hour Beers, Bread Basket, Jagerschnitzel, Apple Strudel - AMAZING. We just moved to Norman last week and this place will be a regular spot for us.
Food good. Ordered bread basket with meal an apparently cook burnt it but other guest got one and they came in after .didn't get the basket at all guess if the cook messes up u do without.nomally have a good expierence
Wheres my garlic sausage!. I was super excited to see that the menu had been revamps and new thing had been added. the cheese curds are a great idea. However, to my dismay, my favorite type of sausage on the menu, the garlic sausage, had been removed. Why did we get rid of it? it was the best one on the menu, spicy but not too spicy, the perfect balance of flavor! Please bring it back!
Great food and service. If you looking for great quality German food and hand crafted beer, you can't go wrong. The sausages are outstanding.
Flavorful Reuben. LOVED the flavor of the Reuben, but the outside of the bread was oily and it wimped out. Server not overly concerned about it though. Spatzel with pork gravy was mild and tasty, great comfort food. I would like to try some other things. They just changed their menu. We were there for lunch. Prices seemed good, although the sandwich was a bit smaller than those served at other restaurants.
Good Food & Good Beer. I have to admit that I am a big Royal Bavaria fan and eat there quite a bit. Das Boot Camp is a shoot off from Royal Bavaria, and I don't get to eat here as often as I would like. I live closer to the parent restaurant and if I am already in Norman there are a ton of places that I crave while I am away so I usually eat at them instead. When I have been to Das Boot I am always happy to find that the food and beer are just as good here as they are at Royal Bavaria. I think Andy hit the nail on the head with his cheaper college town attempt at expanding his business. One particular thing that I do like about Das Boot is that you can get any of the Royal Bavaria brewed beers here at any time whereas you can't always get the full range of beers at the parent restaurant. Royal Bavaria puts some of them on a rotation instead.
What an excellent place to get lunch! My boyfriend ordered the pork schnitzel sandwich and I ordered the sausage sandwich with Nurnberger sausages. Everything was well-seasoned, prepared, and put together. They have the best French fries I've had in a long time. I was not familiar with their beers and got to try some samples. All for less than $20!
Can't beat the happy hour.
Awesome experience. The food has been great every time I have eaten here. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Second time here in the last 2 weeks, both time the service has been lacking but this time is exceptionally bad, maybe 4 tables taken in this place and the waitress is busy on her phone or chatting with her friends, same waitress I ha last time. Gravy fries are awesome, that is the reason I came back. Service kills me wanting to come back when I can just go to tapwerks and get gravy fries. Schnitlel sandwich was pretty good too. Damn the service!!!
A German restaurant I actually like!
First time here. Very good. Food is excellent and wait staff very nice. Will return.
I took my family here for the first time today, and I can tell you both the food and service were excellent. We had the ocktoberfest pretzel as an app and it came out hot and fresh. My wife had the jäger roast; my daughter had the German potato soup; and I had the schnitzel sandwich. All were delicious. The use of sectioned lemons as a topping on the schnitzel was inspired. We will be back.
It's a small menu for items but the items on the menu are delicious. About $10 a plate which isn't bad and the serving sizes are not very large(something I like). Quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and I never felt rushed while I sat and enjoyed my coffee and conversation.
Excellent food, excellent service! Our waiter was very patient and answered all of our long questions. I had the potato soup and my friend tried the jäger schnitzel. Everything tasted amazing! I was surprised at how low our bill was, considering how great the food tasted. I will definitely be returning to try more.
Boot Camp Worth Another Visit. My wife and I ordered the "burger" and found them to be well made and "mity tastee." I ordered mine Bavarian style and enjoyed every bite. The Octoberfest beer is the same smooth micro-brew found at the Royal Bavarian. We like the Royal Bavarian but the menu at Das Boot Camp is oriented toward less expensive items. Our dining experience was pleasant, the food good, and we will return to Das Boot Camp.
Das boot has become my favorite restaurant in Norman. Anyone who says it isn't great has no idea what in the heck they are talking about! Everything about it is awesome. The beer, the brats, the goulash soup, the sauerkraut. And ITS CHEAP.
This place is goooooood. I got the cheesy sausage and the German potato salad (which isn't like american potato salad, this stuff is way better, kinda like buttery scalloped potatoes without the cheese). It's really reasonably priced for any type of restaurant. My meal was $7, and really filling. I had the German chocolate bread pudding for dessert, which was sooooo good. It was pretty looking, and a very generous slice for $4. The atmosphere was good, lots of TVs and big wooden furniture, very comfortable and clean. I'll definitely be back, probably to watch a game and enjoy their 32oz $4 beer.
Loved it. Our server was very helpful in informing my 11 year old about what he would like. Food was fresh and delicious. Beer was tasty! Go if you haven't yet. Fun atmosphere and family friendly, as well as good hangout for friends.
Das Boot is great. You can tell the food is prepared well, The service is good.
Great food and wonderful service. The desserts were to die for. We had bread pudding, yum!!! Price good too!
Fast service, great prices, food measures up to other authentic German restaurants I've visited. Chug a boot while you're here!!
Das Boot Camp Norman. Love it...the music the BEER...the food...a must stop for anyone who has ever eaten German food...my relatives migrated to USA from Germany before the outbreak of World War I and this Norman, Oklahoma restaurant reminds me of grandmothers home cooking it is THAT TASTY!!!
Thumps UP on Das Boot Camp in Norman, Oklahoma.
Great food, great prices.. My husband and I tried Das Boot Camp for the first time this weekend --- it won't be our last trip! The bread basket is a must, jager roast and chicken both delicious, and dessert cannot be missed. Cute atmosphere, very clean, and friendly staff. Vielen dank!
I had the jäger schnitzel and it was fried perfectly & so tender and the mushroom & bacon gravy on it was out of this world. And not to mention the great beer on tap.....I'll be back.....a must try if your in Norman
Delicious German pub food and wonderful assortment of their own brews. Waiter Mike was very informative and made us feel like we were dining with family. Well worth a trip when you're in the greater OKC area!
Great beer, great food. Love this place
Good place for main street. Good to see how downtown norman is growing with a lot of different places. We tried this place on a saturday night. the waiter we got was not on his A game. so service was mediocre he was slow forgot to bring requested items etc. . the appetizer of the spicy fries was much more bland than i would have expected but this is a german restaurant. the ham steak special and the breaded pork entree we got were both good. the prices are much more affordable here than royal bavaria. I did not try the beer here as i have never liked the offerings from the royal bavaria as i was a home brewer for over 15 years and have tried home brews that are MUCH better than the commercial offerings. But hey that's just me. The food was good i just wish it was great but a great place for downtown norman try it
One of my favorite places in Norman. Great food and their beer is pretty good too.
Tasty. We enjoyed this nice little downtown gem. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly, and the food was very good.
Now that's a wiener!!. Great food, comfortable atmosphere, love the sausages especially nurmbergs and cheddarwurst. You have got to try the King's GOLD... it's unbelievable.
The food is quite good! My husband had the bratwurst patty sandwich with sauerkraut! It was REALLY tasty! I had the Jäger Schnitzel, quite good! Ambiance is enjoyable, but I bet it gets a little livelier at the onset of evening! Keep in mind, I love German food! The waitstaff is very attentive and helpful and listened to us and took excellent care of us! Our waitress, Christine I think, even was so kind as to write down the names of several local Bed and Breakfasts in the area when we asked if she knew of any. Now, that is excellent customer service! We haven't taken the journey to Norman very often in years past, but I think we may just have to start making that jaunt more frequently!
Great drink menu! Bratwurst was awesome. My husband would leave me for the beer and the bread pudding is the best. Wait staff very attentive.
Went to the bar with a friend and got the liter boots of beer and the spicy fries. The spicy fries were good and very impressed with the beer, working with the Oklahoma 3.2% abv limit, being a brewer myself. Germans know beer!
My only gripe is that being allergic to wheat (but not barley, go figure) it was hard to find something on the menu. I would include a option for gluten free burger buns (udi's bakery makes very good ones) or give the option to order the burgers as lettuce wraps.
I will be back!
The food here was amazing! Very authentic and so tasty! The German Potato salad was the best! The atmosphere is very inviting and I love the light fixtures! Service was well above par, friendly and efficient! Will be making this our "date night" spot for sure!
Delicious!. Great food and quick service! Jäger schnitzel is delicious. My wife and I really liked this place and would love to come back.
Really, Really Good!. This is as good German food as I've had, and I've been to quite a few. The German Potato Salad and Sauerkraut are both very flavorful, the Burger made from a Brat is excellent beer food and the Schnitzel is as good as I've had. Very tender and full of flavor. We all really enjoyed and are glad we stopped.
Amazing food and drinks with affordable prices. Five stars
Excellent food and GREAT service. Our daughter's told us that we would be going every month.
Affordable, Great German Food. This is a gem in Norman. Where else can you get good tasting German food for less than $10 per entree? It's a more affordable version of Royal Bravaria without stripping the quality of the food. I made a reservation for around 15 people and they were able to accommodate that. It was a bit tight where they seated us, but it was comfortable and cozy. I ordered their Jager Roast and I think it's "the dish" for me at this place. I always end up having a staple dish that I go back to over and over again in most places and this is it for me at Das Boot Camp. The mushroom-bacon gravy is so creamy and rich over the noodles. The pork roast is cooked just right, tender and flavorful. The portion was pretty big and I couldn't help myself but finish it all even when I was full already halfway through it. I'm not much of a drinker but I can safely say that everyone in our party that night had no complaints about the variety they offer. Overall, good place to be for a fun night with friends over food and drinks. A great addition to Norman for sure.
We have been to Das Boot Camp 3 times in the last month. Absolutely love the place! Great atmosphere, with all the best food and beer we love from Royal Bavaria at even better prices. Nothing over $10! The fries with pork and gravy are amazing. The Thunder game special rocks! You won't find a better place to watch a game and drink incredible German beer. Prost!
Happy Belly. Yay! My favorite German restaurant opened in Norman!! I can get cucumber salat and pretzels anytime I want! It would be nice to have a few more meat-free options, but overall, this place is a giant win!
One of Normans best restaurants
Good food and beer. We love the happy hour special of $4 boots (1liter) of beer from 9 to close.
This is a cheaper version of Royal Bavaria with better service and a full bar. The jager schnitzel was crisp and covered in a delicious gravy with the always good noodle dish. This place is what I was hoping for in a more student-friendly version of Royal Bavaria.
Great place to watch Thunder games!. I went during a Thunder game, and they have a $6 deal for a beer and a bratwurst + roll, and they also have great happy hour deals. Whatever beer you get, get the darkest beer, though. Although I normally drink Pilsener's and avoid darker beers, the Oktoberfest was my favorite one at the restaurant. I honestly wasn't too keen on the Pilsener I ordered, but you're definitely going to find a beer you like. If not, they have a broad wine and other alcoholic beverage selection in case you'd want mixed drinks. The bratwurst was great, but the only thing I would recommend is that I wish the restaurant would also sell imported German beers!
I love boats! Just kidding. I prefer the handcrafted Gold. My husband prefers the Munich. The assorted sausage appetizer is a nice variety of their options. The gulash is a must have! Great service, to boot!
All around great! Beers were excellent, pretzels, sausages, bread pudding are all great. Knowledgeable and friendly service completely willing to make a drink off the cocktail menu if they have the ingredients. Will definitely be coming back!
Great place to eat. I took my Gam-Gam there and she loved the sausage!
Good food, good deal-well needed in norman. I ate here with a few friends very soon after they opened and had a great time. The food we received was very proportionate to the price we paid-it looks like everything on the menu is under $10 actually. The beer is just as good as that at Royal Bavaria and they seem to be expanding their selections as well. One thing that stood out is that they have a full cocktail list, unlike Royal Bavaria, which is an added bonus.
We tried the sausage appetizer (four different sausages with sauerkraut) and the fries covered with cheese and beef goulash which was unreal.
For dinner, I had the jagerschnitzel with mushroom bacon sauce, spoetzl and salad-very filling for somewhere around $9 and it was very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their dishes as well (vienerschnitzel, bratwurst sandwich, munich pork roast).
Our waiter was pretty good but it was obvious he didn't know everything-but again it was their opening week so surely that's improved. Overall I was very impressed and enjoyed our experience. This was well needed in Norman and it's especially great to have it on the revitalized Main Street. We will be back soon.
This place is a real sausage-fest.
Oh, the pretzels! My grandfather is German and the pretzels and sausage dishes and cream noodles were old world! We came on a Saturday around lunch, it wasn't too crowded (since Sooners were out of town; Main Street is chaos on game days), and my brother and my husband split a struedel dessert, they LOVED it. Im.not a drinker, but they have some good drink deals. My only complaint is that my server came across as a self-absorbed frat boy more interested in hitting on the young lady in the bar area than service. He never refilled drinks and was off yapping it up with others. The other servers stayed busy, though.
Yummy!. We ate at the Das Boot in Norman after attending a friend's wedding. I and my sister shared a large pretzel and the sausage sampler. Both were wonderful. I especially liked the mustard. We shared a table, European style, with a group of ladies celebrating a birthday. For an entree we had the goulash. Spicy with big chunks of meat; wonderful. For desert we shared the German Chocolate bread pudding. Fantastic! My only criticism is we live so far away we can't come all the time.
