Make sure you have reservations on Friday and Saturday nights. Good food, fun atmosphere. Not fast but it's supposed to be a slow, enjoyable dinner.
Although typically good - they were way off tonight. Ordered sushi only to find out 39 minutes later they were out of sushi rice and it would be another 20 minutes. Really?!!! Chef must have been his first night-no attempt at all to entertain, then burned salmon, scallops and had a steak that wasn't even rare (and I like it medium rare, so a little under done is fine with me). Really sad part was that we were at a table with 4 that were here for the first time. Sadly, they won't be back - one didn't even get their steak at all.

Yummy!!. Does not look like much on the outside BUT looks can be deceiving! Very clean and decorative inside! Food is delicious! Service is always great!! I eat here at least once sometimes twice a month! They have the best fried rice! Taste great every time I eat here! Yamato is my favorite place to eat Hibachi!!

Great prices! First time my husband and I have ever been. He ordered chicken & steak for $19 and got a soup, salad, fried rice, & sherbet...
Although the service isn't the best, we keep coming back for the delicious food. The value is great for the amount of good you get.
Good experience. My husband and I were slightly nervous about going here because of bad reviews, but we decided to give it a shot and took our son for his 15th birthday. We found the service to be good, and our chef was quite entertaining. The food was delicious and it was impossible to eat everything we received! We were happy with our dining experience. However, we did go at four on Sunday afternoon. Not a busy time for the restaurant at all. That probably should be taken into account, but again, for us a very fun time!
Great experience. We were a party of 11 on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm. The restaurant was a little quiet, but the service was wonderful. Our server was attentive and the chef was entertaining and delightful.
This is a wonderful place to celebrate an occasion or life. Dinner does take longer than at a casual dining restaurant, which is expected. It was well worth the wait.

It was amazing.. We have avoided going here for at least 3 yrs. The reviews on here and of my friends were horrible. However we were celebrating our granddaughter’s birthday. We had hoped to go to Shoguns as that is hers (and ours) favorite place. However they had no reservations available.
So we decided to give Yamato Japanese Steakhouse a try. What a shock!! Reservations were for 6 PM and we arrived and they sat us immediately. (There were 7 of us.) Our server Jim arrived right away and took our drink orders. We gave our orders and our salad and soup were brought right away.
Our Chef was Tony and he was sooo funny and professional too. The food was amazing. We had steak, chicken, salmon, scallions and shrimp. Of course we all sampled each other’s food also. I did not order the salmon or scallions this time (husband did) but I will next time. It was heaven in your mouth!! Seriously it was the best seafood I have had in Norman anywhere! I don’t remember when I had this much fun eating out.
The place was packed! Every table was full when we left. There was a rather large group of people waiting at the door. I hope they had as good a time as we did! We will be back.

WOW! I just ate at Yamato, and boy am I impressed! First off, the food is simply incredible. As of that's not enough, our table of 8 was treated to a comedic perfoance by our chef that won't soon be forgotten, as he had us laughing all night. He was truly hillarious, especially the funny bits he performed with the rice and also with the shrimp. We will definitely be going back and will even request our favorite chef when we place our reservation. Keep up the great work, Yamato! Great food, excellent service, unforgettable comedy, and impressive entertainment
I took my wife here for both of our first time for our anniversary and it was the best time/ best food we have found in Norman in a long time. Service was excellent and food was above excellent!!
Not as great as the one on northwest expressway. It's never busy when I have gone and every time I have pulled up I have wondered if they were even open. Their sushi was mediocre, didn't seem very fresh and wasn't handled very delicately. Loosley rolled. No specia attention was given. Hibachi grill was very good. And their green tea was great.
Great Japanese!. Even when the parking lot is full, we've very rarely waited more than 5 mins. Really good food and service/show. Only problem I've ever had was one of the chefs was crude and saying things to young girls that were inappropriate.
Good food, good service.. It's one of those hibachi restaurants where the chef cooks in front of you with a little sword play added into it. I always enjoy those. This is no exception. Food was quite delicious. Of course, it's pricey, but you can always share a plate for a small, extra fee.

Me and a friend went to eat there for lunch on a Saturday and the place was nearly empty! I wasn't sure wether that was a good thing or not so I decided to let the food speak for itself! Having eaten sushi only a couple times before I have to say this is the best I've had! The food was fresh and the presentation was beautiful! Yamato presents a calm serene atmosphere and really good sushi as well as quick service. We got a ton of food for about 15 dolars a person! I'll definately be going back!
Food Yes. Showmanship Maybe.. We recently visited Yamato, and here is what I would have to say. The only thing I have to compare it to is Musashi's in Oklahoma City. As far as that goes, I would give it a thumbs up in the food department, and an "ehh" in the showmanship. The portions at this place are huge! The fried rice is amazing (and you get a lot). I had the steak and chicken, and it was great. The price is very reasonable for hibachi (my meal was $20). For each entre, you get soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, [ENTRE], and then ice cream. The price is way cheaper than Musashi's, and in my opinion, the food is better (even beers are cheaper).
As far as the bad things, the showmaship isn't too great. Our cooker (Johnny) was very personable, but he didn't have too many tricks in bag. He also confused my steak with my wife's filet, so we technically didn't get the right food.
I will definitely go back though. For $20, you get a decent show and a ton of food.
My family loves Yamato. I have gone here for over a decade for any occasion possible. It's fairly priced for the amount of food you get, I eat 3 times on my meal alone. The cooks and management are so nice and funny. They always put a little extra in for my kids on the entertainment side. We just enjoy it here so much.
The food was great, but the place was smoke-filled and a bit dirty.
I mean really, the food was excellent, the chef was awesome, and the show was very entertaining. None of the Hibachi cooktops have hoods, though, so the restaurant fills with smoke, and everything has this sticky sort of... layer of grease on it which attracts dirt and dust. The light fixtures are terrifying. There's no way this place has working smoke detectors. When we left we were full and had LOTS of leftovers, but our hair and clothes kinda reeked of "kitchen".
It was a fun experience and the eating was fantastic, all the same I think I'd prefer to drive a little further for a better atmosphere in the future.
Talk about hibachi! By far the best steakhouse I have been to in Oklahoma! The food is amazing and you definitely get your money's worth of food. I will definitely be back and I will recommend to everyone I know.
The food was delicious and we were very pleased with the service! Our waiter/chef was interactive and made the entire experience very enjoyable! I highly suggest this place if you're in the mood for hibachi!!
