Review Elf's Den - North Pole

Jennifer Zhang
American hub style with good food and service! Recommend this restaurant. Stuck in a storm, we wouldn’t have expected we could have such yummy food in North Pole. I ordered a shrimp pasta and it tasted good. My friend ordered something with halibut. Kenny was a charming person who was with full of story.

Just tried this place last week and we're back a week later, impressed both times! Food is great, a little higher on prices but pretty typical for Fairbanks/North Pole. Service has been great both times, wait staff is friendly and efficient. The menu has a good variety. The calzones are HUGE. The interior is decorated simply but it's bright and feels clean and fresh. This could easily become a regular dinner spot for us!

The people who gave 1 star reviews need to get off their horse. This place screams rural Alaska. It's old and dated, but the food is good and the staff was very friendly. The rustic feel on a snowy day is great. If you want Applebee's, go to Anchorage. The chicken cordon Bleu is really good.

This hidden gem in North Pole is phenomenal. Jenn and Ki were not only a pleasure to speak with but definitely were the foundation for a comfortable and welcoming atmospheric in Elf’s Den. Highly recommend everyone gives this place a try. If they do disappoint, it happens. Give them a second try. It won’t be a repeated offense for we’re all human.

The halibut fish and chips was delicious, the atmosphere was light, clean an airy, and the waitstaff was friendly! If you haven't been recently, go back! Try the fried pickles and mozzarella sticks! A calzone can feed three people! They were huge! Seriously - they're NP top shelf.

Prime rib was good, really good. Salad was simply greens with cucumbers. Baked potatoes were done right. Kids chicken strips appeared hand made and tasty. Garlic bread was good with real garlic on the bread.. Overall a good experience. Party next to us had a pizza that looked incredible.

Food was delivered via doordash, still hot, halibut was a bit over, potatoe was burnt on one side but still good, kids buger was awesome(tons of cheese). Overall a huge improvement and we will be back!

My husband and I went there last night.
The waitress was quite friendly and prompt but after we ordered our meals we asked to have them boxed to take home. Our eyes were actually watering from the smoke in there and I was developing a headache. But that's fine. Some people smoke.
So the food turned out to be OK.
My steak and onion hoagie was disappointing. The meat was great. Slow cooked. Tender. The bread was just a lump of pizza dough and the cheese they used was two slices of processed Kraft cheese. It was gross. I put marinara on it to mask the flavor.
My husband got a calzone that we really liked. It was huge! ! Stuffed too.
So. Elfs den is OK. But we won't be going back.

Hours of operation. So we wanted to eat here yesterday however they can't seem to make up their mind on the hours. The web site says one thing and then there are 4 different times poste on the building. Needless to say I guess they didnt want our business since it was not open. Make up your minds!!!

Pros: good food. If you want a great tasting gyro with fries or clubhouse sandwich with fries for 12.95 then you're in the right place. Waitress is nice.
Cons: smokey smell is very displeasing. Outdated. The salad bar is broken and in plain view just in the middle of the floor. Very tacky. They have an inexpensive side to the menu but the rest of the menu is very pricey. Overall I would eat here again.

Gone downhill?. This is one of those places that seems like it used to be great, but has "gone to seed." The atmosphere leaves something to be desired...very, um, eclectic. The first time we came, we were excited to come to a place featured on DDD with Guy...had "halibut bites" and a peppermint martini. Both were excellent, but our later trips here were less impressive. We got the impression that it was more about the bar than the food.

Great Food!!!!. I have tasted pretty much the whole menu and everything is Yummy!!!!
They deliver in the area as well, but make sure you call at least 45 minutes before you want to eat. Let's be fair, in North Pole places and houses and far in between them.
When I go back to Alaska will go back and eat there for sure!!!!

This place needs new ownership. The place smells badly - like a smokey bar, the bathrooms are kind of scary (for a "nice" restaurant), the waitresses inattentive both times we visited, the decorations were lame/dated/and sometimes just really random, and the food a bit overpriced (especially the 4 dollar salad my friend ordered that literally came with lettuce and tomatoes when it was supposed to be a salad bar. I guess the salad bar wasn't up and running when we were there, but the waitress didn't even bring the mushrooms that she said went on the salad). The only food items we were really satisfied with was the pizza, which we would order again, but to go. Was embarrassed to take a friend here, and wish I could redecorate the place. It could be a really fun, themed restaurant under the right management. Probably a fun place to get a drink, but for those seeking a good quality restaurant, keep looking (or just go to Pagoda's - they do it up right!)

We waited almost an hour for our food and everything was overcooked when it finally arrived at our table. Only one waitress working who was obviously overtasked. Terrible food. Atmosphere was weird and they should hire a new cook.

Yummy!!. I lived across the street from here and I would eat there almost everyday. I would go to the bar on the weekends to hang out with my friends. the drinks are over priced. but we had fun.

Place ain't fancy, but essentially qualifies as Alaska-fabulous. Pizza is my pick here, pretty tasty. Haven't had the "famous" Toranado yet, but want to try.

Came up SHORT. The Elf's Den is in close proximity to Santa's house at the North Pole, so in the spirit of it all, we had to give the place a try for lunch. In a town with limited "good" food choices, could this be a contender? Sorry to report that it wasn't anything more than a cheesy extension of the town around them. Not awful, but not something I would do again. Would it be politically incorrect to say this place came up SHORT of my expectations?

The food was good but not at all my idea of fine dining.

Would not return .... Way over priced for the tacky atmosphere, food and service. I live in AK so I'm use to cheesy but I could not wait to leave this restaurant. The holiday decor hasn't been changed or updated since they probably opened! Come on ... There are really nice Christmas decorations out there; update please! Use a duster and wipe the place own while you're at it. The service was s-l-o-w and my steak was road kill. Sorry, but it didn't cut it for me or my hubby.

Food was so-so and not what I call fine dining..... The place is run down

Service is still very slow. Had chicken wings which were not hot even though asked for spicy. Pizza was pretty good tho.

The food was ok, the service VERY slow. For what we paid for dinner, I have to admit, given the reviews I wasn't impressed. Probably won't go back for dinner unless it's a group function.

Birthday Dinner. Have not been here since my early days in the AF, like 1982. Back then it was a party bar for the GI's and had a lot of fun there.

Now I am a homebody and wanted to take the wife out for her birthday.

The decor has changed a bit but still looks like I did the drywall. Do not be swayed however by the dated look. The steaks we had were close to perfect and the wait staff of one (Jennifer )was great. The salad bar could use a major update, at the time it was fresh but too few choices.

I am glad I gave the ole Elf's Den a chance, we will be back again when it is a bit cooler, inside and out.

The place is a tad outdated but the food makes up for it. I love the steaks and chicken there and the pasta is a hit as well. Also very reasonably priced with a large selection
