The food is so good!!!! The women in the front was so nice and made you feel at home. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for some southern comfort food I am so happy I found it!!!!!
It really doesn't get any better than this. The soul food is fantastic! I ate 4 pork chops in one sitting. two smothered pork chops and two fried, rice, mac and cheese and black eyes peas. I didn't stop until it was all gone. Great food and great prices. A must try if you're in the area. And they deliver!

Good service loved the french fries with the bbq sauce. Love the fried chicken and the sweet patato pie is amazing.
I ordered the classic combo with pulled pork, collard greens, blackeyed peas over rice, and candied yams. It was so good! The food is delicious!

I had there fried chicken, French fries, mac&chees. I can't forget about the corn bread. I enjoyed every bite.

As Barbara Jean's former neighbor for many years, I can tell you the smell of her delicious soul food wafting up from the 2nd floor to my 3rd floor apartment used to torture me so I was very happy to see Ms. Barbara Jean's Soul Food Kitchen open. I'm not sure what took me so long to stop by but I finally did last night and am glad I did. My chopped BBQ, mac and cheese and collard greens were on the money and I can't wait to try the whiting! I even brought home deviled eggs and banana pudding! Now that I know they deliver, I will also call them for lunch. This is the place to go for good, authentic soul food at a reasonable price, plus it's nice to go somewhere where the staff is friendly and really appreciate your business.
Wow the food is delicious the smoother porkshops rice beans gravy Mac and cheese cabbage cornbread I can go on and on season just right!!! Excellent portions
Took my husband there for a belated Valentine's Day lunch. Read about it in the CT Post a few months ago. OMGosh the food and service were awesome!!!! Those candied yams were delish!!! Will be there again soon!!!

Amazing vegan soul food! I've ordered twice, and it's really good. People are giving one star because you can't sit in due to covid? Ridiculous. Vegan shrimp, chicken, sides, and sauces.
We ordered via Uber eats. Food arrived right on time and warm. We ordered several items... bbq ribs, fried pork chop, jumbo fried shrimp, and smothered chicken thigh. The food was tasty and well seasoned. The fried food wasn't super crispy due to the moisture from being delivered, but it still tasted great. The bbq ribs were on point! Very tasty and the right amount of bbq sauce. We'll be back to try other menu items.

I'm honestly a little bummed my husband and I discovered Ms. Barbara Jean's -- we've had to increase our dining out budget because we just can't get enough of this place!! I'm a vegan and hubs is not, so it can be tough for us to find a place where we can both order something that we're really craving without compromising. I can't believe we can both order from a soul food kitchen -- which isn't the first type of restaurant that comes to mind when you think of vegan food -- and both be equally happy. Hubs orders something different off the menu every time and is always satisfied. I've gotten their vegan fried chicken and seafood options, and the first time I tried both, I thought I'd mistakenly been given non-vegan food. It is THAT good. The vegan mac and cheese is also to die for -- so much so that hubs orders the vegan mac rather than the traditional mac. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for meat eaters and non-meat eaters alike!!

Reviews currently on Google are not at all fair to this place.
I not only have eaten here many times but I have picked up platters for catering events at work and home and all have been impressed and asked for the address and number. BTW they do have wings at least in the past as I have ordered at least once. Items I recommend are the collard greens, sweet yams, whiting fish, and black eyed peas, oh and the sweet potato pie made on site is out of the world good! Like grandma used to make.
I do not do dairy anymore but the mac n cheese looks and smells good. I do like my cornbread a bit more moist that would be my main complaint so I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. though from NYC I am from a long line of southerners and my grandmothers from Georgia on both sides would have approved if they had tasted. Prices are reasonable unless you want too much fish which happens to me at times. If you are in a rush I would call ahead with the order and then pick up. Catering prices are great, I will be checking in with them to supply items for our party next month. They are also very friendly, not at all rude and very clean which is as important as taste. You should not hesitate to check out!
They have a really good take out system for covid contactless pick up. Both times I've called they were really friendly. The fried chicken is a larger portion than expected, the leg and thigh were really big, not greasy, juicy chicken, and crisp outside, highly recommended. The shrimp were good too, a lot of sides, also a great portion, mac and cheese is on point, not too cheesy and not mushy. Highly recommend it.
