City Lights Cafe has been one of my go-to places for a quick lunch since I started working in Oakland’s so-called “Uptown” district about 10 years ago. My favorite selection is the hearty beef chili, which pairs well with the crunchy croutons that are offered as option. Another favorite has been the flavorful fried chicken sandwich which is accompanied by a layer of spicy Cole slaw - unfortunately this item only appears as a special item. The regular menu is however filled with numerous tasty and healthy salads and sandwiches for the lunch crowd. Not to be outdone, the breakfast offerings include several bagel type sandwiches, fresh fruit and yogurt cup items as well as coffee, tea and juices. Right beside the cash register is a display of baked goodies that also tempt my tummy.
Although the pastrami reuben was delicious, I wish they pressed it more, as it came out a bit soggy.
Great salads as well as sandwiches & soups, fast & friendly service, and beautiful place to sit outside in nice weather!
Food is always delicious and healthy. Always friendly and courteous staff.
