First time here. The waiter was very helpful pointing out the vegetarian dishes that can be made vegan. I had the Jamaican Rasta Pasta, minus cheese. My husband had Jerk Pork and our friend had the Oxtail. They each had a beer as well. Everyone enjoyed their meal and had left overs to take home. They use plastic to go containers. They give out plastic straws. In the near future those one time use plastic items will be banned here. Brazil and a few other countries have already banned them.
Overall we enjoyed our visit and will be back to try other dishes.

Better) I'm here to correct the review; My husband didn't realize he order the wrong item on the menu; so when I went to return the food & to get a refund the chef/ owner was kind enough to show and to explain to me how to order for my husband next time; he gave me my refund and fix the correct dish he was looking for; I actually took the time to steal a taste and I regret I didn't order it for my self 😂the beans & rice he must of added more seasonings to it cause my previous review lol ; I will ask questions before ordering especially to a place I never been before!
My wife and I found our new favorite Okemos/Haslett location for lunch and dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and great portion sizes. I can’t speak highly enough to how good it was.
Yummy, emperor-sized portions and good service. Wish the fish was ocean-friendly, but Kingston scored big with no-plastic bags and ecofriendly boxes. Will come back to explore more of the menu, and look for dishes with more fruits&veggies on the side. Yay!
Friendly staff and clean store. One of the cooks ( possibly the owner) came out to check to see if we were enjoying ourselves and the food.
The food was delicious. I went with a group of 9 and everyone enjoyed their meals.
The coconut curry chicken was delicious, and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I tried the Reggae Medley juice, it was tasty
Awesome burger had pork,homemade fried onions and bq sauce. Chef Shawn will take care of you. You have to try it

Incredible. As good and even better than top rated restaurants on island. Staff are professional and enthusiastic about their work. Cant say that about staff at restaurants on the main street. The food is varied and the flavor is not hidden by frying. Candice our server was especially attentive.
I've eaten here a couple times, now. There are some great items and I think the place has potential to be a 5 star restaurant. The Jamaican patty and the oxtail were excellent. I was also pleased with the slaw and the sweet potato tots. The staff is friendly. There are a few things I think they can work on. The fried plantains were not ripe and so were much too starchy. The rice and beans were mildly cinnamon flavored, but were too bland for me. The plantain chips really need some seasoning, too. The prices are a bit high for what it is, and I'd rather not have service during lunch because it's unnecessary and makes it even more expensive.
Truly unique and interesting menu. Great people. Very often the owner makes the rounds warmly greeting the guests. Plan to take a little extra time to enjoy your meal if you go at peak times because each dish individually prepared from scratch. Go with a group enjoy an appetizer, share and explore the different tastes. Take your time to savor your meal.
I was overly impressed with everything about this restaurant. The food was all very good, service was fast, the owner and head chef came out and spoke with us (and he was hilarious!). My wife is celiac and he went out of his way to make sure everything we ordered was gluten free. We even tried to order something that wasn't and he came up with a custom option on the fly to accommodate it. The interior design was awesome also, it looked much nicer inside than I had expected.
This is my favorite restaurant in Lansing! The food is absolutely delicious and the staff is incredibly friendly! The owner is so kind! The prices are really affordable! I've had Jamaican food in Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco and this outshines them all.The stuffed mushrooms and the vegetarian patties are my favorite!
The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very polite and knowledgeable in menu items. I had the Jerk Chicken, and I felt it lacked in flavor, wasn't very spicy like most Jamaican jerk chicken is, and had more of an American taste to it. My friend ordered the snapper, and she didn't like the way it tasted with the breading, she was use to fried Jamaican snapper with no breading. The food tasted average in my opinion and I have very diverse taste buds.
If you like Jamaican food or want to try something new, you should pay a visit to this restaurant. The food is excellent. The staff were not only friendly, they were also knowledgeable on the cuisine. Chef Shawn is amazing. I highly recommend Kingston Kitchen. We will definitely be back.
Had dinner here on a weeknight. Was not busy, walked right in and was seated immediately. We started with the mushroom appetizer, which was very good, more than enough for a party of two. For dinner I had the Escovitch Fish, which I loved. The one thing I would say about it is that I love spicy food, and it ended up being decently spicy for me, so I would include a warning at least. My wife had the jerk chicken, which was perfectly cooked. I didn't have any problems with the plantains like others said, they were just fine for me. The only other suggestion I have is to include a smaller portion of rice and beans. I liked them (they were mildly spiced and sticky), but there was way too much. I think about half that portion would be right. Will most likely return!
Wife and I had the shrimp and scallops Jamaican scampi and the coconut curry chicken. Both were amazing. Staff was excellent. Will definitely go back. Don't skip a red stripe with your meal... ;-)
