My husband said that he had a taste for some really good ribs. I told him that I knew just the spot! Fall off da bone goodness! I had the sweet tea and it was delicious. Pecan pie for him and sweet potato for me! Definitely recommend this place!
Friday night fried catfish. The best I have ever tasted! Great BBQ, friendly staff, the works! Also had them cater a 50th anniversary party at my house several years ago. Guests from out of town raved about the food! Highly recommend!
Been eating here all my life have eatin so much bbq around texas and the country have not found anything that compares yet
I am a pastor at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Pert. Yesterday we catered from this place for our cover dish dinner celebrating a year in ministry at the church. Sheps confirmed what I have known for years as a school teacher in Neches. They are the best barbecue by far in East Texas and are unmatched in class and love for how they serve people. Keep up the good work!

I've been going to Shep's for most of my life (I'll be 48 next week). Shep's not only has some of the best BBQ, but Bruce and his staff treat everyone like family! When I'm home for a visit, I always go pick some BBQ up to take back to Louisiana with me!
Even my grandmother of 87 years old says it’s the best BBQ she’s ever had! SO GOOD!!!! Extremely nice and handsome staff too!!! Finger licking good.
Best fried catfish in Palestine and best ribs and brisket
This place is absolutely awesome. Great Food. Great Service. Great Atmosphere!

Best catfish meal around plus unsweetened tea. Oh yes the BBQ is to died for too.
I have been going to Sheps since I was a little girl. I have always gotten great food from a very friendly staff. I drive from Louisiana as often as I can to be able to eat here.
Some of the best BBQ I have ever had
I will be the drive from Waco to again
I've eaten at all of them and this place is the best by far!
Food was incredible- brisket, green beans & potato salad. As good as the food was, the people were even better. So friendly, helpful and FUNNY!!
We will definitely be back! We drove up from Buffalo.
Such a great barbecue joint. Bruce is always so welcoming everyone with a smile. The food is so good. I got the mailman which is French fries loaded with chopped up sausage and chopped beef then shredded cheese and some kind of tomato sauce. It was so good. They have specials everyday as well!! This place has been around for years! Come check out an iconic Palestine BBQ joint when you are in the area.
The service here is super friendly and small-town. Everyone has a smile and they know all the locals. The portions were VERY generous on the 2-meat plate. The ribs were cooked perfectly and tasted great. The brisket was a little dry and could stand some extra seasoning in the rub. The BBQ helped moisten it up. Fried okra was good, but the coleslaw was a little bland, lacking that “bite” you look for. Overall, a great place for lunch or dinner.
I love this place. Mr Bruce takes the time to know your name and know what you like. The hospitality and customer service is superior. It's hard to say which is better the BBQ or the people. The vibe reminds me of small town farmer America. It's lovely everything about it is lovely.
Great little BBQ gem in East Texas. This is not some hipster BBQ joint from the Texas Monthly. This is traditional East Texas BBQ where chopped beef is king and the sauce is boss. This is the old school BBQ.
I ordered the Herucles Sandwich, chopped beef and sausge. It was large with good flavor with a mild sauce. The sandwich was huge and had drippings falling out as I was trying to eat it. Great lunch
Well tried this home town BBQ place today and man...... I really love the ideal of supporting regular everyday people in their dreams. This restaurant has some awesome chopped beef sandwiches potatoe salad and that okra wow really great place to eat! Priced right, Friendly and food is awesome stop in and support a local business. This place is worth it the stop! I'm taking my leftovers home😉
We love Shep’s! Their barbecue and sauce is delicious. The sausage is the best I’ve had in years. I’m not crazy about some of the sides, but the pinto beans are my favorite out of the sides offered. I am an old southern gal, and I like my coleslaw creamy but not too sweet, my potato salad with plenty of mustard and vinegar and my fried okra with just cornmeal and no flour breading, but that just how I do it. The turnip greens are good, I think the green beans are out of a can, but it just depends on how picky you are. Overall, this is our go to for bbq. I haven’t tried the fried fish yet, but I hear it’s good. I would give them 5 stars if they had sides more to my liking.
This is where the locals eat! This was evident by the constant stream of people coming in and leaving with big bags of take-out. The beef was tasty, but didn't have the traditional smokey flavor you would expect from a BBQ restaurant. But their sausage is awesome! Two thumbs up!! Now, they really need to do something about the black flies in the dining room though.
We're from Houston and came to take the train ride and found this place, we highly recommend it and the staff there were so nice
