I was referred to Il Fornaio by a good friend of mine, so we decided to stop by during a stroll in Palo Alto. We started with their melone e prosciutto as an appetizer, and got a pizza and tried their risotto special, my goodness that was delicious! Pablo, our server, was so kind and very genuine when he was giving us recommendations on what we should try, and we were not disappointed! If you get lucky to get him as your server please take his word! The overall experience was wonderful and I will be coming back again!

We loved the pairing of cuisine from the Veneto and the suggested Veneto wines. Loved the Rosé Extra Dry, Mionetto. We shared a tomato salad, and the Tortelloni all’Ampezzana which were beautiful, colorful, and delicious. our Secondi were the Scaloppine al Prosecco which was flavorful and tender. Bill enjoyed the Gamberoni alla Busar. the prawns were every large and nicely grilled.
Definitely a delicious meal with great wines.
Love the dog friendly patio not too hustle bustle. Service very friendly and heartfelt. The food perfect for a weekend special breakfast. We go there at least twice a month.
Excellent service and super quick meal preparation. The capellini and ravioli were just right and the setting was perfect for Valentine's dinner.
Great service and food. Came out for my birthday and everything from the time we entered and till we left was excellent. The calamari appetizers were amazing along with the "something Vodka" ( Pennoni Alla Vodka).
LOVE their breakfast and lunch! Highly recommend! Fresh ingredients prepared in creative and delicious ways! Service was excellent too!
We had a wonderful thanksgiving lunch with my family. The food was delicious and the service was great.. we will be back again for sure. Love this restaurant.
I love this place and everything is amazing... drinks, food👌
Excellent food and service. One of our favorite restaurants for special occasions.
Es un lindo lugar. Todo está delicioso, buen ambiente para celebrar y atención excelente.
Great wines, food, and the only place in town where you can hear the classic music of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin all in one evening! Quality!
Large restaurant able to handle a large quantity of guests. Lovely outdoor patio area and we are able to get a party of 7 seated on Friday without reservations on the outdoor patio. Plenty of parking nearby.
Food was quite delicious and classic Italian dishes. Not a bad dish out of all the ones we tried.
I love this place. Super good service and excellent food.
We just ordered 2 of there pizzas 🍕 and a bottle of wine 🍷. Nothing fancy, but the pizza was fantastic and the vine matched the food.
Service was always there when you needed them even if they were busy with other tables.
You should book a table in advance if you go.
Nice Italian restaurant. Liked the menu quite a bit, good amount of variety and fairly affordable. The dessert we had (pudding bread) was amazing. However, I was a bit underwhelmed by the general look / atmosphere of this location. Still, definitely a good option for this sort of food.
Portions are quite big. I’m underwhelmed by the overall taste of the food - they are good but within the realm of basic and not super impressive. I would say with that price and atmosphere, it’s a pretty good deal in Palo Alto
Very nice and clean place. Steak was not as flavorful as I'd expect for 48 dollars, but super tender. Cut with a fork status.
Very nice place to meet both indoor and outdoor,
Friendly staff and decent food.
There are a few details that I don't understand, For lunch they open at 12pm, I'm not sure why this choice, you end up waiting outside together with other hungry customers to then enter the establishment and provide the staff a big wave of clients coming in all at once.
However, we tried quite a few items from the menu and they are of good quality but nothing to rave about. The bruschetta bread was hard to cut and chew, the beet salad was terrific, great job, the calamari was quite small and over cooked,
The mix of grilled fish is pan fried not grilled and the seafood food pasta was quite tasty, well cooked and with an abundance of seafood.
Overall a good experience, small easy changes would set it apart from other restaurants.
Our group had dinner in the patio, which is a lovely space, though as the temperature dropped the staff should have turned on the heaters. There is new ownership since the pandemic and I noticed a few things that were different, though the quality of the food was generally as good as previously. The wait staff is less refined and more intrusive. The bread is poorer quality. While my dinner partners food was excellent, I had the salami appetizer as a main course. Its contents has changes and is far less interesting than previously. The wine list is good, but inadequate at lower price points. Overall, a dependably good experience that could br improved.
Great meal with excellent service. Parking in downtown Palo Alto strip is relatively easy if you get there prior to typical lunch or dinner crowd times. The old fashioned cocktail was particularly good.
