Have been to El Vez many times. Food is always very good. Atmosphere / Decor / Vibe still very cool despite being same for 20 years now. Bathrooms / bathroom wash area could use a refresh. This time we sat at a table. Server (Cristal) was great but bartenders were very slow filling drink orders. Had to ask about our drinks 3 times. Guacamole app and the Tortilla soup were excellent as always. Snapper Veracruzana was also very good. Cheese burger was good and cooked exactly as requested. Fries that came with cheese burger were some of the best I ever had. Always a good time!
My friend and I had a nice night here. I enjoyed the food but overall this place isn’t really anything special. For the price point I’d imagine something more mind blowing. I knew this place wasn’t going to be authentic but I wanted to be surprised by the fusion items and they turned out to be just okay,
Some things were done well like, the meat in the tacos were spectacularly spiced and well cooked. But other things were mediocre at best, like the seafood options did not taste very appetizing.
The deserts were yummy but nothing special.
The lights were moody and decor was nice to look at, the service was good too.
If you live near the area and want to impress someone I would take them here but it’s not going to be a restaurant I come back too.
El Vez offers a delightful fusion of flavors! We got Tacos Árabes which a standout, bursting with deliciousness. The grilled corn and melted Manchego were a delightful twist. The dips were absolutely fantastic, adding an extra intensity to the meal.
However, the only downside was that the portion sizes seemed a tad small considering the prices. Nonetheless, the ambiance was pleasant, and the attentive waitresses made the dining experience enjoyable. It is a spot worth visiting for a flavorful culinary adventure. This is not far from being the best Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia.
My friend had the red sangria and the chicken burrito.
I had chicken tacos and Brussels sprouts.
The inside is vibrant and has a great vibe, we sat at bistro tables outside. Service was spectacular (I have a food sensitivity and they were very accommodating).
I recommend 100%!
Flamboyant and iconic, El Vez is a landmark dining and entertainment fixture of Philly's gayborhood. It also is an amazing Mexican restaurant and bar.
People watch from the sidewalk tables or melt into a plush velvet booth with your margarita. Regardless, the food can stand on its own with the finest Mexican restaurants of the world.
The unapologetic and fantastical decor can only be understood once your margaritas come and you realize the colors match seamlessly. It is the only decor that will match any flavor of margarita.
The queso with chorizo, excellent. The five taco sampler - so good. Especially the pork and beef. Plantains with queso, I mean who doesn't love plantains :) The tres leches didn't shine as much as it was a bit dry and the whipped cream was not sugared at all. But the server was awesome and enthusiastic.
If your in downtown center city near Rittenhouse square, or near Independence Hall and want to grab tacos in a decently sized place - here’s your place!

If you want a great non alcoholic drink - trust me ask for the Fresh Limeade- Mint, Agave Nectar (similar to a mojito but with better flavor)
If you have some time to sit down for a good dinner with a fun vibe, this is the place! From the moment you walk in, the environment is high energy, the music is fun, and the staff are just as energetic.
Give yourself some time as this restaurant is usually busy.
The Pink Cadillac Margarita is delicious
You seriously can never go wrong with El Vez, one of the best Mexican restaurants ANYWHERE. Service is on point, food is delicious and the drinks are always spot on. I got the steak tacos and they were cooked perfectly.
Great center city spot. Flavors are always amazing. I’ve been several times and today, the taco sampler, was the best thing I’ve had there. Really enjoyed it.
