For 9 years I lived close enough to walk to McNally's, I was first introduced to a Schmitter when I was 19, that was 47 years ago now. Have to say hands down the best sandwich I've ever eaten made even just a bit sweater by Hugh McNally himself. It just docent get any better. God bless Hugh and the entire McNally family!!
This bar was awesome. Ann took care of us and let us eat(in town on business so we couldn't come back) even though there were two private parties going on. She gave us the history of the place and everything and just made it an awesome time. I highly recommend this place. The food was amazing.

Best hometown bar and restaurant! They cook their own turkey, roast beef and ham daily, which is why their sandwiches are to die for!!!! We each had the famous Schmitter and chocolate cake for dessert- they do their own baking too! Their bar is excellent and if you order a cocktail, be prepared for a heavy pour and call Uber! Love this homey place!!!!!❤️

We stopped in for lunch and a drink. BEST food and drink we had during our time in PA/NJ! The atmosphere and people there were all so friendly and kind! Anytime you are near here, definitely stop by for the Schmitter and a beer. You will not be disappointed!
McNally’s Tavern Chestnut Hill located at 8634 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118 is a world class Tavern/Pub/Restaurant! Family owned and run since its inception in the 20’s, this place has some really great food offerings. Their sandwich the “Schmitter” is a cheesesteak/grilled salami/sauce combination that is tremendous. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food is stellar from the sandwiches to their desserts which are homemade. Try their Chocolate cake as it’s pretty unbeatable.
Had a wonderful lunch at McNally's! It was my first time here, but it has a lot of charm and character, and so I can see why this place has so many regulars. Delicious sandwiches, and a great beer selection! I would absolutely suggest for anyone looking for a no-thrills restaurant.
First time here, had to try the schmitter. And it did not disappoint. Also got a slice of cake and it might have been the best cake I've ever had!
This is such an amazing family establishment and exactly the type of place I want to frequent. We walked in and were admiring a photo on the wall when the server seating us said "that's my grandfather." She was one of the owners, and such a lovely person. Very cool moment. Everyone working there was great--chatted with us for awhile, gave our visiting friend from Texas a free t-shirt. Beer's in imperial pints! And the sandwiches are great. I'll be back.
It was a nice small location. The food was okay. I tried this sandwich called the schmitter and it wasn't that bad. The coleslaw and chili were great and I had a carrot cake for dessert.
I’ve been hearing about the legendary Schmitter for over a year. Tried to go months ago but they were closed on a Tuesday. The day finally came! If you’re going for the Schmitter (which you should be) order the long roll version. It’s just better. Yes it’s over $18. Yes you may not be able to finish. Topped it off with a nice IPA. Love the old school feel of this place, too.
I've been coming to McNally's since 1975. When I walk in the door, I feel like I'm home. Friendly staff, great food ( although they are known for the Schmitter, my personal favorite is an Italian grinder, washed down with a Guinness). I don't live in Philly, but when in town, I'm going to McNally's!
In town for work and always looking for amazing local spots to eat so a co worker said this was a must try spot. Welp there it is the famous “Schmitter” and OMG this probably is thee best sandwich I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating EVER. If you don’t know the history on this sandwich you should google it. Pretty cool little story. Cool local spot and our server Liz was the best. Definitely on my list to come back to when I’m in Philly.
A colleague from Philly recommended this restaurant to us during a business trip. When we arrived, I looked at the menu and tried to find something semi-healthy to order. But, our colleague said you have to get “The Schmitter”, because that’s what this place is known for. Honestly, if I had not been told that, I would have never ever ordered that item, because it didn’t sound appetizing to me. However, I always say, “when in Rome…”, so I decided to go for it. I’m not kidding you when I say it was delicious. Totally not my style of food, because it’s dripping with cheese and sauce, fat and carbs, but oh my gosh, it was fabulous! I only wish I could have tried it on a cold snowy day instead of in the midst of the summer swelter, because it seems like a perfect comfort style pub food sandwich when coming in from a blustery day. If I ever have to come here in the winter, I definitely want to eat here again!
DELICIOUS spicy Bloody Mary, followed by a Toby (it's a Schmitter with crisp bacon added), and since it was my birthday, my group ordered a slice of each cake - carrot, coconut, chocolate. I can't say enough about how hot and fresh the sandwich was, or how rich and tasty the cakes were! Love this place!
WOW! What an amazing amazing spot! The food was to die for and came out very quick.(Try the Schmitter, thank me later) Also the staff was so kind, I will definitely be back and would HIGHLY reccomend

I came back to McNallys for the first time in 34 years. Used to go here in my teens and 20s. It hasn’t changed! The BEST cheesesteaks. The BEST (family run and friendly) service. Impeccably clean and just the most incredible tavern. Love it!!!

This place is the classic small whole in the wall with great beer and awesome sandwiches. My fiance and I saw this place on an Instagram account known for finding great food spots around the Philadelphia area. Once we saw this place pop up, we knew we had to come.
First of all, it took us a few minutes to find this place because there was no sign outside and there is another bar right next door that we were getting it mixed up with. However, we eventually found our way in (asked the bartender if we were in the right place) and sat at the bar. We ended up ordering a chicken Cheesesteak with fried onions and a schmitter. We divided it up half each. I've had the Schmitter one time before drunkenly at a Phillies game but wasn't in the clearest state of mind to judge it. This sandwich was much better than I remembered! Now, the chicken Cheesesteak.... This is a controversial statement but I live within walking distance of Dalessandros, I've eaten cheesesteaks from Mama's pizzeria, Steve's prince of steaks, Joe's steaks on castor ave, so I've got experiences with cheesesteaks. This CHICKEN cheesesteak was the best chicken cheesesteak I've ever had (I can't judge the beef cheesesteak because I didn't get it here). The bartender told us that it's made of real chicken (not chicken steak) that they marinate and chop up themselves. All I know is this chicken Cheesesteak was legit!
Although we were each really full after that, we couldn't resist the temptation of dessert after hearing the different cake choices. We decided to get a piece of the chocolate cake which looks like just an ordinary piece of chocolate cake... Wrong. This cake was delicious too. We were told it is a homemade recipe with traces of coffee that helps to cut the sweetness. Whatever they did they succeeded because this cake was nice and moist and not overly sweet like your typical cakes. We each really enjoyed it!
Needless to say, we'll be back... And we'll bring friends!
