This was my first time eating at Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop and I can say my experience there was great the the cheesesteak was hot and fresh, so we're the fries and the Milkshake the service was excellent the ladies there were courteous, and friendly I would definitely recommend this place as a great place to eat and I will definitely come back next time I come back to town. Thank you ladies for your great service 😀❤️
First time in Philly and the locals said I had to try Joe's if I wanted a genuine cheesesteak. Hands down best cheesesteak I've ever had! Nothing will compare to the cheesesteak I had at Joe's steaks and Soda shop. Go Eagles!!!
Great place in Philly to grab an awesome cheesesteak and shake!!! First time there, and won't be the last. Even my middle younger daughter (#3 of 4) who doesn't eat red meat tried it and said it was yummy!!! She mostly ate the fries which were also great (nice and crispy) and pickles!
Awesome setting ! 50s style . Wait staff was on point ! Excellent pricing . Quality food. The bread was very good ! We really enjoyed ourselves!
The ONLY place to go in Philly!! Raised on Chink's Steaks, waited tables in the 80's, learned how to perfect the steak from Chink and Joe.. now have a mobile business in Morgantown WV where they had no idea a cheesesteak could be that good!!! Thank you Chink and Joe for showing me the way!!
We asked some people where to get a proper Philly cheesesteak while we up there for a youth football game. We ended up at Joe's and now I can't wait to go back!! Best cheesesteak I've ever had and they also have delicious drinks and shakes on the menu. If you're ever up that way, give this place a try!!
Our first time there. My husband and I had the best cheese steak ever. We also had cheese fries and milkshakes that were awesome! We can't wait to make a second visit. Well worth the trip.
It was wonderful! The service, the cheesesteak was the best I've had. The fries were great. And their milkshake brought me to the club, delicious!!!! And the bathroom was very nice. Went there before the METALLICA show. Highly recommend it!
IMHO the best Philly cheesesteak is here and is consistently the best.
Me and my family stopped by on our way home from NY and it was one of the best cheesesteaks I've had by far and the milkshake was great!!! Even the fries were delicious. Great food and friendly staff. #Snickersmilkshake #Phillycheesesteak are my recommendations
Great food came from Ny to try this place best steak and milk shake I ever had
I started taking my kids and their friends out to get cheesesteaks on the last day of school. I’ve been doing it since they were in 5th grade. We’ve been to Pat’s, Geno’s, John’s, D’Allessandro’s and Joe’s. My youngest just graduated and he and his friends chose a repeat of Joe’s as their final stop in the Philly cheesesteak challenge. It’s the best!
The steak and roll were excellent. I had American with onions. Very good stuff. You won't be disappointed. Friendly staff as well.
I was taken there by some friends while visiting from Costa Rica. Great classic American place. With gluten free buns. Was perfect
!!!
Visited for takeout on Sunday 4/10 and waited about 15 minutes for my food. Ordered the steak egg and cheese 10’’ (with American and fried onions), cheesesteak 6’’ (with wiz and fried onions) and an order of cheese fries. This has to be my favorite cheesesteak experience so far. The sandwiches are loaded with meat, the rolls are soft but firm, and you are satisfied when you are done. Spent $32 and also got a fountain drink. Highly recommend!
Best cheesesteak I've had in awhile. Founded in 1949 by Samuel Sherman as 'Chink's Steaks'. Now ran by Joe Groh, but enough history -- Try their milkshakes, they're big! We got a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake and their original cheesesteak with nothing added or taken away. Delicious! Be prepared for tight parallel parking outside on the street.
We were searching for a local steakshop with gluten free/vegan cheese options due to health concerns. The staff were very knowledgable. They were out of gf bread due to local bakery oven problems, but made excellent substitution. Food was incredible, dairy free shake was delicious too. The regular food was great too according to the rest of our group. Next time we are in Philly we will come back!
I'm not a cheesesteak professional and have only eaten a couple. That being said, I ordered a cheesesteak with provolone and mushrooms. What a combo! The steak itself was very tasty and not too fatt or messy.. The mushrooms melted with he provolone complimented each other very well. The bread definitely is what brought in the whole flavor of the cheesesteak. Also they make very sweet and delicious milkshakes. Would recommend!
This was my first time having a Philly cheesesteak and this place was definitely worth it!! We just happened to come on a Wednesday when they have $7 cheesesteaks. I would definitely come back here if I was ever in the area! Tip: *get extra cheese whiz!*
Best philly cheesesteaks I've had! I got one steak and one chicken, with peppers on the side. Best decision yet. I would definitely recommend it for others. I also got a orange dreamsicle milkshake and it was delicious! Great experience and friendly staff all around. Cute and old fashioned setting as well!
Visited for takeout on a Sunday evening. This cheesesteak is a classic. Our only regret is not dining in and being able to try the ice cream floats. But there is always next time!
Solid cheesesteak!! Fries were bleh. Minor issue with ordering online. Between placing the order and the time we stood waiting outside, it was 1 hour. Watched every single customer that came after us take their order and leave, it was during the week in the morning. Maybe have better luck just calling it in or ordering when you get there! Wouldn't stop me from going again, just something to take note if you are traveling to get here!
Been there today and was extremely happy to see a glutten free roll that taste good
Service was superb in this iconic place had their cherry coke soda with the cheese steak it was soooooo good
Thank you for the great time
It was very very yummy, we really enjoyed it, we are basically from Virginia and we went there for tour so if you go there you should try that steak 🥩 that is very yummy very tasty if I will go there again I will definitely try again ❤️
Very good Philly Cheesesteaks, had one with sausage in it and that was the bomb! Will try their shakes next time
Joe's is unquestionably the GOLD STANDARD for cheesesteak shops in Philly (or anywhere else). I actually worked at a high-end steak shop when I was 14. Joe's (formerly Ch*nk's) uses the freshest and best-tasting ingredients like tender ribeye, South Philly rolls, superb cheeses, etc. And they know how to prepare them together for a delicious end product. The one star reviewers are laughably uninformed. The low-end shops that they rave about have to chop their cheap, fatty, imported, low grade "beef" into thousands of tiny pieces, otherwise it would be too tough to eat due to the massive amounts of gristle and fat present. Joe's is to those wannabe shops what a Rolls-Royce is to a Smart car. And Joe's other offerings are similarly top notch, including their fries, sausages, burgers, chicken, ice cream, and sodas. Despite Joe's superiority, their prices are nearly as low as those at most competitors. The neighborhood is borderline ghetto but you will be safe if you go there during daylight hours. Seriously, what else could you pay $9 for that will give you as much pleasure as a Joe's cheesesteak?
Old school institution serving up great steaks. Milkshakes were really big and made on the spot. Fantastic ambiance, the place is a throwback and just a very cool space. We tried steaks with provolone and cheese wiz, and really it's your own preference because both were good. Definitely hit it up if you are nearby.
Great food but gets really busy around lunch time, so there is a wait, both to be seated as well as for your food to arrive. Really old school decor, but it adds to the charm. I appreciated that the bathrooms were clean, so likely they take care of the place well.
The cheesesteaks themselves were pretty good, milkshakes fantastic. My wife had the veggie burger and thought it was great; fresh, and likely made on premises rather than being frozen.
Legit Philly cheesesteak and we came all the way from DC to try em. Cheesesteaks are made to order. I recommend cheese wiz and onions. Bun was nice and hearty and perfect vehicle for that cheese wiz and high quality thinly sliced steak. Service was friendly and quick considering the lines they had going. They have limited outdoor seating outside. No inside seating due to COVID. I heard the milkshakes were really good but I didnt try one. Next time I will definitely get a milkshake. One thing I suggest is a little more seasoning on the steak and that would have made it a perfect 5 stars.
Best Cheesesteaks ever!!! The owner is so humble and so nice!!! The bread was so yummy!!! The steak so juicy and very tasty!! The Krinkle French Fries with cheese!!! Super delicious!!!
One of the best cheesesteaks I've had in Philly. I agree there could be more meat though for the price. The staff is friendly. It's a small spot. Wouldn't go with a group of more than 4 if you want to sit together.
