Came in for some matzo ball soup on a chilly September day. It was delicious and the perfect choice to warm up before continuing on our journey along South St. It has an old school, mellow Jewish deli vibe. Worth a stop.
Excellent food & service. Our server was very nice & had a great attitude. He was crazy busy with a table of about 5 women who had him back & forth!
Kosher style dining at its best. Sandwiches are both huge and ultra huge! Sharing is permitted without having to pay a sharing fee.
Definitely recommend the famous chopped liver sandwich and the Reuben which we enjoyed. Come hungry since there is so much to eat.
Got a regular size soft baked chocolate chip cookie for dessert. Was the prefect ending to our meal. In front is a full scale take out area for meat, fish, sides, and big desserts.
Parking is extremely limited in this area but metered street parking is available.

Been going to Famous for years. Best whitefish salad on poppy and the chocolate cookies with walnuts are to die for!
This place never disappoints! I got a corned beef sandwich, a knish and some 3 cherry hamentash. The hamentash have this shortbread taste and are incredible. The corned beef which I get lean is very good on the rye with deli mustard. I've eaten inside here before and everything is incredible. If you've never been here go. You won't be disappointed!!
Huge potions! Quality meat, friendly service, one of a kind place. A must for Philly first timers. Amazing cheesecake and the best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had! We went twice this week.
The wait time was long, and our party of 6 got split in two, but the food and service were incredible. Portion sizes are also enormous!
✅Large portions
(My photo is one cheesesteak split between the two people)
✅old school look and feel
✅typical diner service.
Would have it again.
NEVER miss a chance to spend an hour trying to finish a corned beef Reuben at famous! my strategy is don't put it down once you pick up a half. very difficult to pick it up again.

Such a amazing experience! It was like a trip back in time. Great service also, the waiters/waitresses were really helpful & nice!
The deli side is full of every dessert & treats you could possibly think of! I have never seen such large portions of food in my life!!
My husband & I had the Chicken Noodle Soup, I had the Open Faced Brisket Sandwich w/Macaroni Salad on the side & he had a huge Pastrami Sandwich w/ golden, crispy handcut fries. Only thing I would change is the Macaroni Salad portion. It was in a tiny ramekin served w/ that MASSIVE amount of Brisket. I gotta add that it was the best MS I had ever had in my 41 yrs of life! Lol! We will be back for sure! I can see why they've been there since 1923! 100 Yrs!
Large variety! Large portions! The staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is bright and comfortable. I LOVE this Philadelphia iconic location. We had a filling brunch.
Pastrami great, creamed herring, great, potato pancakes great. What more do you need to know. Oh yeah, order one sandwich as it will feed two!
My husband and I were in town for our 1 year anniversary and my cousins suggested we go there. The staff was very friendly, attentive and fast. Everything was good and nice portion of food.
The food is pricey but they give you very large servings. We ordered just three things: corned beef sandwich, matzo ball soup and fries. The sandwich was very dry, the matzo ball itself was delicious (the chicken in it wasn’t), and the fries were alright.
The service was a bit lukewarm. However, we loved the seating, so that kind of made up for it 😊
This deli is famous. Famous for good food, large portions, great desserts. I always have a to-go box and I always take dessert home, because it's too good to leave behind. The dessert portions are also large like the main dishes.
I haven't been here in over 30 years, but it hadn't changed at all. The food was excellent, the service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I really enjoyed my sandwich and potato pancakes but took most of it home with me. There was enough that I had it for dinner the next night and lunch the following day! Even with that I feel the prices are way out of line at $28.00 for a sandwich so it will probably be a few more years before I return.
Was in the area doing a candle making session at Loomen Labs nearby and decided to try 4th street deli while waiting for our candles to set.
Super glad we did! There was a 10 minute wait at around 2pm on a Sunday, but once we were seated everything came quickly. Service was top notch as we didn't feel rushed at all and they answered our questions. We got the hot pastrami sandwich, bagels and lox, matzoh ball soup, and a black and white cookie. Everything was phenomenal, and very large sizes.
We left with a to go box, and definitely plan to come back!
This is my first time coming to The famous 4th Street Deli. The waitress waited on us and was very friendly. The food came fast and the the food was humongous but very delicious. I recommend the cheesesteak :)
