Reviews Woodrow's Sandwich Shop

This place is killing it, everything is so damn good. I've been working through their menu, and have yet to find anything that's not amazing. I'm Cuban, and their Cuban sandwich is dead on point flavor wise. The cheese steak is amazing with the truffle whiz. The "Not so" breakfast sandwich is amazing. Their fries are the best on South St, hands down.

It's rare that you find a niche sandwich shop that caters to a gluten allergy. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable gluten free food.. I had a great steak sandwich and a super fun soda to wash down. I'll absolutely be back!

Hands down best cheesesteak in Philadelphia and hands down best meatball sub I've ever had anywhere. Get down to south street and enjoy everything this place has to offer.

The food is AMAZING! Couldn't decide what we wanted, so we ordered our top 3 choices and split them. Whiz wit, Coffee brisket, and grilled cheese. First but definitely not our last time. We'll be making that drive from Maryland to try the food we didn't taste yet.. Can't wait

This place just opened up this year in the beginning of 2016 and I am well impressed by their cheesesteaks. I highly recommend this place if anyone is looking for a cheesesteak on south street.

We went on the suggestion of Jamie at SJ Cigars and it did not disappoint. If ever a wonderful wiz there was, the truffle wiz is the one because, it kicked ass!!!

I think I was like the third customer and I had a great experience! The service was fresh but fast, in and out in like 10-15 minutes and the food was delicious. I got the Not Just For Breakfast Sandwich with bacon and fries. The fries are thick and delicious and the sandwich was the perfect brunch on a pretzel croissant. This spot is like 2 blocks from my apartment and I will definitely be going back. Welcome to the neighborhood Woodrow's!

I had the Woodrow's Pork sandwich today. This sandwich was delicious! I wanted to order another one after I finished it. It was that good. I ordered the Crab Roll and I'll be having that for lunch tomorrow. This place never disappoints. Will be back soon.

Tastes better than it looks! To be blunt, the service here kind of sucks but the sandwich is great — probably the best chicken cheesesteak I've had around. Plus it came out fast. I would probably grab takeout here again, despite the surly staff and slight inconvenience of needing to order and pay online instead of being able to look at a physical menu and/or hand someone cash or a card.

Absolutely delicious! One of the best for sure. The meat was perfect, the bread was soft and the cheese was quality. Definitely recommend this place and I’ll be back.

I had Woodrow’s a little lower on my list, because I wanted something more traditional for my cheesesteak experience than truffle whiz and cherry pepper mayo. But wow, was I ever wrong! The combo of the homemade truffle whiz and cherry pepper mayo was creamy and rich, with a hint of both mushroom and a little spice. They turned out to be the absolute highlight of the sandwich!

Authentic Wiodrow's Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich was absolutely incredible! They use a truffle oil in the cheese sauce that makes their sandwiches divine. The sub was huge, enough for two. We truly enjoyed our cheesesteak sub.

This place is absolutely worth the trip! So thankful for Alex Delaney's video showcasing Woodrow's as the best place to get a cheese steak in Philly, otherwise we would've missed it. Look at all that whiz!

Date of Visit: Sunday Aug 19th, 2023 When in Philly – one simply must have a Philly cheese steak. There are many places that advertise having them on the menu, or specialize in Cheesesteak to choose from. We looked at the Philly Tourism map of best cheesesteak shops in town, and looked into which one we might try. We decided upon Woodrow’s due to its focus on just cheesesteak, good reviews, uniqueness, and their newness – they are a relatively new business. This is a small hole in the wall shop, with a few tables along the wall. You scan a QR code at the table, to place your order and then they deliver it to your table. Take out is done the same way. We went there for lunch and just ordered one sandwich and one order of fries to split between 2. The sandwich was delightful. Very tender meaty, juicy, and cheesy. This was a very good cheesesteak sandwich, and if this is your first time in Philly and you can only have one – this is a really good one. The price was very reasonable. The only drawback to this experience was the QR code – as Canadians our cell phone didn’t have service to tap into the QR code. However, they did give us their wifi access so we could order, so it all worked out.

Very delicious philly cheesesteak, I highly recommend it over many other resturants. However, its not the traditional cheesesteak as it has truffle and other toppings. The grilled chicken breast burger was good, a healthier option for those who want to balance lol. The resturant is relatively mid size.

Cheesesteak is amazing here. Salads are great too! Grilled chicken sandwich has good flavour but meat was a little dry. Sauce and toppings were so good you barely noticed though

I had a few hours to kill and I was looking for a spot that was supposed to have some of the best sandwiches in Philly. Woodrow's certainly lived up to that reputation. You're going to use a QR code to order and there are limited tables, but the staff was friendly and efficient.

Quick business trip to Philly and needed to get a cheesesteak. Poured over online reviews and headed to Woodrows. Ordered the Whiz Wit...shaved ribeye, truffle whiz, cherry pepper mayo, caramelized onions...one of those transcendent bites where I simultaneously wanted to cry and maniacally laugh. I ate the whole thing and hibernated on the plane ride home dreaming of my next time in town.

Best cheesesteak I have ever had. I was specifically looking for a cheesteak that was not one of the big "tourist spot" establishments, and I happened upon Woodrow's. Absolutely delicious...the meat, the cheese, the roll. Highly reccomended. UPDATE Oct 2023: We have tried a total of 6 solid cheesesteaks spots in Philly. Woodrow's still hold the #1 spot. It just doesn't get any better.

I loved the cheesesteak and their in-house cheese sauce is the bomb! I was very disappointed with the homemade fries and would skip those next time and just have a bag of chips. 4.22.23-Returned again and the fries were on point this time! I put in order notes for them not to be overcooked. My cheesesteak again didn’t disappoint and my friend loved his chicken one.

This was my first official Philly cheesesteak in Philly. Came on a road trip last week and researched many spots and decided on this one. I really enjoyed the cheesesteak. The meat had no fat or gristle. I liked their cherry pepper sauce and the truffle whiz. The only thing that could be better is the bread to have some crispness. We loved the fries and wish I realized beforehand that you could order their sauce to dip ur fries...way better than ketchup. They don't tell you you can order at cash cause as soon as u walk in they say to scan the code and order but my scan function on my phone doesn't work. You can pay in cash. The place is busy and small so hard to get a seat.

We loved Woodrow's. As first time visitors to Philly, we knew we wanted to try and authentic cheesesteak and luckily, we found Woodrow's. Their menu is simple and you can order through to app at your table so there's no way to mess it up. Plus their wiz was the best. 10/10 would recommend for anyone visiting for the first time.

Hurry down, baby, she's the hippest street in town- South Street! The Orlons sang it in 1963. Sitting in Woodrow's with a seat near the street window was a treat, that is true. But the real treats are the their sandwiches! A roast pork "torpedo" with provolone and broccoli rabe was my choice. Tender, juicy, tasty and perfectly seasoned is my verdict. The addition of house cut fries wit truffle whiz were irresistible! Everything was washed down with a "Real McCoy" sarsaparilla soda. Wow!

Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The classic cheesesteak with the truffle wiz (even ordered more of it) was insaneeeeeee. So much meat, amazing bun, onions etc. It was jaw dropping. 100% a must visit. Also had the Cajun fries which were sublime. About $11 for the sandwich, others all looked great too. Service was quick and no frills, order via the QR code on the table and no chatting really! Would be nicer with some interaction but not an issue when the food is this good.
