Reviews The Bean Cafe

James was very accommodating, he could have easily ignored me or brushed me off yet he did not. For an hour and a half I got to take a break from the Irma data collection drinking great coffee and having solid conversations with complete strangers. As much as the recent Hurricane has disrupted my life and many of those in it, The Bean Cafe provided a needed escape. Don't pass this place up. A last true gem on South Street.

Always clean and cozy. Rarely crowded inside though it is in the middle of the South St craziness. Good for chatting with neighbors, studying and people watching. James, the owner is a really nice guy and treats all of his customers kindly. Interesting decor with works by local artists, a book shelf and posters for events. Stays open late which is nice if you want to hang out in the evening. The coffee is really good, La Colombe brand I think. It is what I would categorize as high quality "regular" coffee.

Pretty cool, laid back spot. No cold brew but the iced coffee is good. Its worth traveling the extra couple of blocks from Starbucks to check it out. Also, really cool artwork on your way to the bathroom. Cash only with ATM inside

It was so nice to stumble upon this place. Center City is being overrun by Starbucks. I would rather come down to South Street and support a local business. Good, cheap iced coffee. Lots of specialty drink options as well. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and seemed quite knowledgeable about the area. Cash only. Cheapest ATM on South Street next to the register.

Awesome little shop. I liked the Thai iced coffee. It's really bitter and sweet at the same time. Cool atmosphere and music, green and brown decor. Limited seating, but they have some couches. I'd stop by here again. Free WiFi too

22 yr Establishment! Pumpkin Bread award winning - baked on location. Local art Local pride - Pay for the goods and THEN use the facilities! *littered with wisdom and angsty notions* Tip 'em, they are worth it! ATM with lower surcharge than most - keep it secret...keep it safe 🤘🏼

I would never go anywhere else. I wish I could have put every $ I spent at bizarrely pompous coffee bars, cafés, and corporate coffee institutions from them and into the Bean. I have worked as a professional Barista in two cities, at the most prominent cafés in both. This is my perspective: The Bean is the most quintessential café I have ever been to in America. Cafés, in history, were always a place where every type of person gathered. The commoner , the artist, the professional (etc) would gather to share in a love for amazing coffee. The Bean has the coffee, the atmosphere, and the clientele (without even trying) that emulates the original café environment, in history, that I love and have searched for. It is without effort, it just is who they are. The Bean takes the elitism out of it. It welcomes all, with affordable pricing and authentic atmosphere. The service is authentic and always above and beyond. I would recommend no other café to anyone. Just remember to bring cash!

The best iced coffee I have experienced. It was nothing short of life changing. The service was very friendly, definitely a small place and unique but that adds to the charm.

Great little dive cafe. Do visit the restrooms... the lowbrow art on the stairs is neat and the graffiti top-notch.
