The food here was very good. Big portions for everything. Wing sauce selection good. Cuban and short rib grilled cheese were literally enough if you are getting an app.
Suprising!. Place is neat, clean, great beer selection and service was quick and friendly. we tried wings, they were crisp and fresh. wing sauce was homemade and they had great flavors. we also tried the mto burgers. cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries were awesome! try them with a side of the raspberry wing sauce. will certainly be back!
Excellent food. Hal's is a staple for me and my wife to come and dine and enjoy good food and beer. The burger hands down is my favorite around Pittsburgh. The half chicken is really good as well. The only cons about Hal's is the menu rarely rotates and the noise can get loud but it is almost a full sports bar so that is understandable. Enjoy yourself and relax
Imo best West View bar!!! There are sooo many great things to say about this place. I've read reviews about people complaining about the noise, its a sports bar that has a restaurant inside so yes there will be music, talking, and noise. But one of the biggest reasons being is this place gets busy. So many people come here for the great food and service. Thier beer selection is extensive but doesn't kill your wallet. I have never eaten ANYTHING here I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and Hal is very personable. He always seems to be there working and we have even seen him sweeping up on several occasions. He is an owner that truely cares about his establishment. This is no dive bar and the decor reflects that. It is modern-industrial but it is also intimate enough for date night. They also have a wonderful private room that has a lounge like atmosphere for private gatherings. This is truely a rare find in this area.

As others have said, the atmosphere is on the loud side. The menu is interesting, not what you would expect from looking at the establishment from the outside.
The appetizers are not the typical bar food, nor is the menu. I would never expect this place to have a wonderful sweet pea risotto. The quality and quantity is outstanding for the price.
My only suggestions would be to decrease the volume and increase the lighting.
I am new in town and heard great things about Hals Bar and Grill. I decided to try it out when I pulled up the parking lot was full so I knew it had to be a popular place. Everything from the food to service was great. I have just found my new favorite spot!!
We love everything about Hal's & have Bren regulars pretty much since he's opened. It's awesome to see someone who works so hard succeed. Food is consistently great & a great value. We love to take our veg friends there too. Good drinks, service, atmosphere, parking! (we live in the City) & menu- that changes seasonally. Tonight was my birthday & our server was so nice to accommodate us with a brought in cake & candles. I love Hal's.....it's our go-to when we're hungry! And NO pretension like so many City restaurants.
Outstanding. This past Friday my husband, two children, and I had dinner at Hal's for the first time. It was so busy, but a 30 minute wait well worth it! They are very kid friendly. The food was amazing, generous portions, as well as the service. And for the beer selection? Wow. We will most definitely be going back!
I used to work with Hal when he was the GM at the now defunct Trilogy in "dahn-tahn" Pittsburgh. His original kitchen crew was both guys I'd worked with at Trilogy as well. Hal took fine dining & blended it with a bar. And the result is THE BEST BAR IN DA BURGH! EVERYTHING on his menue is top notch. If you like spicy wings, try the EW No. 9. The creole mustard & Gen. Drew's flavors are awesome as well. Calamari to die for, lamb chops are divine, samiches spectacular. BEST WINGS IN TOWN. Even friends from Buffalo RAVE about them. Be careful though. One drink at Hal's is like 2 drinks anywhere else!
Great atmosphere! Really clean, great staff, and a great selection of drinks! You can really tell that the owner cares about his staff and customers as you see him helping out every night. I would definitely recommend!
Great Place. I went to Hal's for the first time last week and loved every bit of it. From the outside Hal's looks a bit sketchy as its located in a run down strip mall of sorts. Once you make your way inside you'll be pleased to find an updated, cool, relaxed interior. Half of the restaurant is the bar area (filled with several high top tables) and the other half is the dining area. Our server was great, as was the food. I had the fish sandwich which was HUGE, it was honestly the size of my forearm. I liked that it wasn't greasy in any way and the breading they use is extra crispy. My only complaint is that they serve it on a hamburger bun (I hate it when you get 2 feet of fish and a 5" bun.) Everyone else that I was with really enjoyed their meals as well. For 3 sandwiches, 3 iced teas, and an app our bill came to just under $40. I plan on making Hal's one of my regular stops.
Hal's is the best!!!. I have been going to Hal's off and on since it opened a few years ago. It seems each time we go, it gets better. The food is great!! We went again last night and I am so amazed at how well Hal keeps maintaining such high quality standards. The serving staff are all wonderful. A great atmospere with all the TVs with your favorite sporting event. Prices are reasonable and portions are great. We always are full and very satisfied when we leave. If you haven't gone to Hal's, you're missing one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh.
Shhhh...... Hal's has great food. They have enough big screens to satisfy Steeler/Penguin fans, and they attract a friendly clientel.
I had the Nachos Grande, which were excellent, Seared Tuna appetizer which was perfectly cooked and tasted fresh , a great bowl of Cream of Mushroom Soup and a grilled pastrami sandwich. Everything I had was delicious, the waitress was friendly and efficient. This is a great place! OH... Fried Dill Pickles!
My only criticism was the mucis was turned up to 11. I'm not really getting that, because there is no dance floor, in fact, I was there during a Penguin game and the music was louder than the Penguin game.
Don't let the noise stop you from going, but Hal, if you're listening... SHHHH! Just turn the music from 11 to maybe 6 or 7. There is no reason to have the customers scream to each other above the music.
Wow. I didn't know anything about the place when we stopped in for dinner and was surprised to see the many upscale options adjoining the traditional bar fare. I got the pork osso buco and my husband had the ribs with sweet potato fries. One of the best meals I've had in recent memory. I will definitely be back.
We've been to Hal's twice now & it's a very cool place. Currently decorated for the holidays, so nice!
Lots of TVs. Great music (hi-energy pop & dance tunes); a bit loud for quiet conversation (but that's what adds to the fun atmosphere.)
The wings were HUGE, well done (just the way we like them!) & Hal's has some amazing sauces & rubs. The nachos were great. Burger was tasty.
Cheyenne was our waitress both time. We're lucky cause she's awesome! :)

Food is delicious. Loud atmosphere..difficult to carry on a conversation. Very crowded and service was a bit slow. Well worth the trip for the tasty food. The meatloaf cupcakes served over mashed potatoes was extremely tasty. Listed as appetizer but could be a meal. I would highly recommend Hal's.
Placed an order on a Saturday night for take out. They were super busy. The atmosphere inside was awesome. They were playing good music, the staff was friendly. I had a little bit of a longer wait for my food then expected but it was totally cool considering how busy they were. We got a half a rack of ribs, and a California burrito. Everything was delicious. The onion rings were bomb too. Will definitely be back to actually eat inside!

First time and we’ll definitely be back. First impressions left us thinking that the menu felt kind of all over the place. But that means that there’s bound to be something for everyone.
The lamb chops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The pork belly on cabbage was fried perfectly and the dish as a whole was a really cool riff on pork and kraut.
My fish tacos were really tasty and if I had to be critical at all I would say they just needed salt and acid. Some cilantro, lime and salt would have made them perfect.
The Cuban Reuben is a fun, well executed sandwich and the selection of both sides and soups was unique enough that it will draw me back.
Our server was pleasant, professional and attentive. Again, if I had any pointers it would be to improve on pre bussing and top shelf tequila shouldn’t be served chilled without asking.
Otherwise, really great experience and we look forward to our next visit!

Absolutely delicious food! We had the Chicken and Waffles and the Pot Roast sandwich. Unbelievably good! Really friendly staff and great service. If we lived closer, we'd be regulars!
Great place! Lots of wonderful food on the menu to choose from. The atmosphere is fun too, and you can dine inside or outside. The music was kind of loud on the inside, but we love music, so we didn't mind. 😃
Finally made it out to Hal's for their wing night. ($1 a wing). Their wings weren't bad and they have a decent variety of flavors to choose from, but i wouldn't make a special trip out for them. I got the hot garlic parmesan, which sadly didn't taste like garlic at all, the hot raspberry which was a nice flavor, and one of their new flavors, mator's something? (Honey, hot cajun), those were really good. I'd order your wings well done, if you like them crispy. I'll probably come back sometime, but to try some of the other things on their menu.
Came here with a group of 8. Had drinks, apps, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Everything was great. The staff was also very attentive. I would definitely eat here again.
Only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because of the wait time but we specifically wanted to eat outside. Otherwise it was great. We all had different sandwiches and they were all good!
Fun atmosphere, and there is lots of good beer on tap in the restaurant. Great selection of cans and bottles in the store, plus you can fill a growler. Beer lovers haven!
Wow! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place and we were blown away.
Very neat, chill dive bar atmosphere, but very clean and comfortable. The drinks were so varied and delicious, our server even customized a cocktail for us.
The food was so much better than I could have ever expected - we had the pepperoni rolls, Italian Hoagie, and Burnt Ends Mac and Cheese - probably some of the best, most flavor food I've had in Pittsburgh.
Above all else, our server, Anna, was one of the best I've ever had - friendly, welcoming, attentive without hovering and made us feel like we were regulars during our first visit.

Great place, first time eating there. We sat on the patio. My husband had the fish tacos and I had the chicken salad croissant. Both were great. Waitress was extremely nice and pleasant. Very attentive.
Great place to watch the game, grab dinner, or spend time with some family and friends! The food was incredible, the service was exceptional, and the atmosphere was everything you'd want for a bar and restaurant.
