The food here is fantastic!
The exterior is a bit deceiving. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in.
The atmosphere is beautiful, and food is authentic Mediterranean.
Our service was also fantastic!
*****BYOB , No alcohol served, cork fee wasn't too bad.

I stopped in for lunch and was absolutely delighted! I enjoyed a gyro, fries, Greek salad, and baklava for less than $14.00. Great food. Great price. Loved the decor and the staff was perfectly attentive. I'll be back!

This food is fantastic. I've had the seabass, pork medallions, red snapper, and most recently the lamb shank. The lamb was by far my favorite to date. Very good food; accommodating / friendly servers. My only complaint is that it seems they have enough servers working, and there is only 1 maybe 2 to cover all of their tables.

The food was absolutely awesome. Service was great. Atmosphere was delightful. Very clean and decorated nicely. We plan on returning to this quaint restaurant. Hats off to the chef!

I really enjoyed this place. Friendly staff, delicious Greek food, reasonable prices. I wanted to eat more but I was too full! Very charming little restaurant. I will definitely go back.

Hidden Gem. Would have never found this place except I decided to try and find a good traditional Greek restaurant. This place nailed it. We ordered the lamb and it was AMAZING!! The pasta dish I had was prepared very nicely and the garlic sauce was yummy. We will certainly be back!
Another Guy (On The Internet)
This place was amazing. Perfect food, great service. I work in the industry, and this is what I strive to make around the office.

Worth a shot. A little pricey for what you get, but still very tasty. Amazing service. Very friendly.

Great Mediterranean food. The only thing that keeps me from going there more often is that it is a little too expensive.

Great place, great food, friendly staff... a very enjoyable experience.

The lamb was delicious. Very generous portions, and melted in your mouth. The brownie is huge!

First visit tonight, was really impressed. Food is very good and service was great! So happy to have a good Greek restaurant near us! Definitely will be making this a regular stop.

Ate at Mediterrano tonight. It was wonderful! The food was very tasty and the service was excellent! I recommend it to anyone looking to go out for a nice relaxing dinner. The restaurant is charming.
Fanya Serviou
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food! I highly recommend it for a relaxing evening out with friends. Reservations are encouraged.

Super disappointed! Family came up from Ohio for the day, and I wanted to treat them to a nice dinner since I've been bragging about this place forever! We stalled around all day and finally went over at 4pm (that's what time they open) to find a sign posted on the door they were closed for the day!
It would be nice if you posted that information on your website.

Great Greek food. The lemon soup was superb. Best Greek food in Pittsburgh!! The Greek bread pudding was the perfect compliment to end the meal.
Brianne Matteo
Classic Greek done well. Standouts were definitely in their appetizers and desserts. They certainly make wonderful things with their phyllo. BYOB is a definite plus. A little quiet on a Friday lent night but to be expected. Definitely going back to try some other Greek dishes. What we had was very tasty but certainly on par with other Greek restaurants.
Michael
Service was horrible. Never offered more then the waters we asked for. Never refilled the waters we asked for. Hummus was good but lacked the flavor of a good olive oil and not even a subtle hint of lemon or garlic. Subpar feta was thrown over any and all the food that came out. Fried zucchini was good though. Gyros were nothing to write home about. The gyro meat was dry and flavorless and the only sauce came with the last two bites. Definitely not worth what they were charging for them. The cook staff was not much better as they would poke their head out from time to time and was either outside smoking or talking with the waitstaff. There must be better Greek food out there. Other than the zucchini and some decent hummus, wouldn't go back even if the awesome Groupon deal...$10 for $30!
Bruce Ellis
If its special I missed it. Went twice within the last week because we had Groupons. We had gyro's the 1st time and was not impressed at all. Gyro overall was not even warm, thought the meat was not sliced thin at all, very small amount of tomato & onion. Had to use our imagination when it came to the tzatziki. I could of done without the Primanti touch of fries they added to the sandwich. Add to this they cost $9.50 sans Groupon and it becomes a a big disappointment. A few nights later we ventured back for a night of Greek appetizers. They were out of their AVGOLEMONO soup at 6pm. Again significant disappointment. The domades were more like jerky than succulent stuffed grape leaves. The hummus sampler was adequate but our server struggled to id what types we were sampling. I myself feel I make better. The Spanokopitakia was bland and over baked (I have had better at the Costco sample booth). Was looking forward to the Saganaki but alas it too proved underwhelming in that it was over baked and lacked any evidence of the "rich brandy sauce". Overall I believe this establishment is too pricey, not very good and the wait staff is not mean but they are certainly not personable, This is a good location and it seems the restaurant was fairly busy but if I owned the place I certainly would not be resting on my laurels since this customer found none to relax on/

A fabulous meal! Can't wait to come back and bring my family! The calamari and home-made hummus was delicious and the lamb was superb. Thanks Mediterrano:)
Info
Way too Expensive. Entrees are very pricey and don't include soup, salad or even bread. OUCH. The briquettes was sooo dry and tasteless I couldn't even eat it. The portion of potatoes was about 3 mouthfuls. The serving size of everyone's dinner was meager yet very pricey. They were out of 2 items that were picked. This restaurant won't last if they don't improve the food, lower the prices and include more on the entree. They are priced too high and pretend to be upscale, when in fact they are no where near upscale.
James Smith
Very over-priced. First time at Mediterrano, heard good things about it and parking lot is always packed. Food was just okay and it was way over-priced. I ordered the Mousaka dinner, and it was one smallish piece of Mousaka and a very small side of sauteed spinach for $18. No salad included, and definitely no leftovers. We also ordered Saganaki, which was supposed to be flambeed cheese in rich brandy sauce but it came out very dry/overcooked and not a sign of any brandy sauce.

Deserts were reasonable and good; two deserts were only $6 total.

Overall, very disappointing.
Pamela Butler
I ordered the red snapper and lemon potatoes. (It usually comes with rice pilaf but I substituted the potatoes)

The dish was FANTASTIC! It was fresh and full of flavor. The staff was quite pleasant as well. I would reccomend this restaurant to anyone!
Lina Patterson
While at Mediterrano my family waited 50 minutes. My daughter's order was messed up so we waited an extra twenty-five minutes for her food. Although the food was good the waitresses were rude and my family does not plan on returning.

Food/ staff. The food was excellent but the female waiter was very rude. We arrive at lunch time and it wasnt busy. After being seated we had to wait 15 minutes before she came and ask for drinks and food because she was chatting with a customer and people were wait. However, the food was really good but poor staff
Kira Nicole
Good all around. We enjoyed our food! I will return

Enjoyable meal. I was finally able to eat here after being on my wishlist for a long time. I recommend making a reservation, dining room is very small and it would probably be next to impossible to get a table on the weekend without one. The food was excellent. I went with the grilled chicken over rice pilaf and the flavor was outstanding. My only complaint was that the onions and peppers were unbelievably small (almost non-existent), seems like a strange thing to skimp on. My wife got the chicken pasta which she also enjoyed. I found the menu was well priced except for the corkage fee, which is listed as $8. That seems a little high of a fee to pay for a restaurant not having a liquor license. Not sure if that is only on the weekend or every day. Other than that I will be back to try some of the other entries
Mandy
This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. The appetizers were excellent and the lamb tender and delicious. Absolutely loved the atmosphere...highly recommend!!
Angie
Best hummus of my life. Great service. Great food. Cozy atmosphere. I felt like I was visiting my long-lost Greek family and the Grandmothers spent all day cooking. It was a truly amazing dining experience!
Maniatis9
Best Mediterranean food around! I've been here so many times and am certainly coming back. I've tried something new almost every time and always end with the best baklava I've ever eaten (comes in traditional, chocolate, or raspberry flavor...all of which are decadent!). You will not regret going here, especially with a bottle of your favorite wine, since it's BYOB.
Mesmo314
Unimpressed. I was not a fan of the food....AT ALL. Also, the server I had was rude.
Effort
Rustic Greek Food - BYOB. Small restaurant with a burnt orange/terra cotta walls that gives off a nice atmosphere. There is a large wood burning oven that is used for some interesting Greek style pizza. Some interesting items on the menu but for lunch the lamb burger sounded just right. It was cooked perfectly and came with a tomato, red onion, feta and a lemon aioli sauce and some Greek fries. The lamb burger was very good and so were the fries.

Definitely a restaurant I want to return to and try some of the dinner items.

We had a wonderful meal. But, even better was the staff. We had reservations and were seated early upon our arrival. Our waitress was so gracious and another waiter was even engaging with us. He cleaned up our plates and stopped twice to speak to us. The salad served with my entree was very fresh and dresses perfectly. My husband ordered lamb and was pleased. The desert sampler was the best part as we sampled three baklava dishes, a butter cookie, phyllo with amazing custard and another concoction of nuts and honey that I loved. We agreed that we will be back although we drove an hour to get there. There are not many Greek restaurants in Pittsburgh and Mediterrano is at the top of my list now. Such a refreshing experience!

What wonderful people. Dante created a memorable dessert for my wife and I in honor of our 30 year anniversary

The food was so authentic ... We had 4 people that never eaten at the restaurant prior.

It was like coming home seeing Michael. Ashley was a delightful waitress. We truly missed seeing Helena! It is just another reason to come back!

Thank you all for a lovely evening.

The Booher Family

I was in this restaurant, i love everything about it!! Food, staff..., I had a lamb burger I can't wait to go back!!
Annette Kohan
Went there today for lunch with friends. They ordered sandwiches with Greek fries. They were very happy with their food. I ordered the moussaka. It was terrible. Worst I ever had. It was small and burnt. Also ordered the fried zucchini. Way too much breading. Could not even taste the zucchini. It was paper thin. Needs a lighter breading or a thicker cut of zucchini. Will not be returning.

Dinner in March 2013. My fiancee and I had dinner with friends last Sunday and were very pleased with the food and the service. It is nice to be able to bring your own favorite wine and have it served to you at your table.
We will recommend you to our friends.
Rose

Average at best. Not good enough for me to go back.

Awesome Greek food!. This is an excellent restaurant all around. Very clean and beautifully decorated. They are BYOB but that is ok. The food is very good. And the desserts are incredible. The staff is also very friendly and accomodating. Great place to take a date but go early because there's sure to be a wait! I will definately be returning soon!
Schwemmer_family
Wonderful Restaurant. We tried this restaurant on Restaurant Week and were impressed! The food was excellent! Everything was spotless! Everyone was very freindly and attentive; the place was warm, cozy and welcoming. Our daughter Stephanie had been there and had similiar comments when she visited. We recommend it highly.
Joyce Miazgowicz
Absolutely Delicious. We recently took friends to the Mediterranno for their first time. All four of us had absolutely delicious meals. The waitstaff was the best. The atmosphere. nice. We will definitely be returning.

Poor First Impression. My husband and I decided to give this place a try this past Saturday around 6pm. When we arrived there was another party of two who were seated fairly quickly without a reservation. There is basically no area to wait as the entry is extemely small, and there is a table right next to the door. When it was our turn to be greeted, the hostess told us that they "could get us fed", but we would have to leave within an hour as there was a reservation coming in. Sorry, but when patrons decide to spend money on dining out, being rushed isn't very appealing. Also, it left us confused as to why we would have to leave, and not the party before us, or any other diners who were already seated. The hostess did nothing to apologize or provide any incentive to return. With so many interesting restaurants in the Burgh, why should we? PS. I posted my frustration on their Facebook page which was not responded to and was removed.

Wonderful!!!. We held a rehearsal dinner here & it was perfect! The food was delicious, the service was outstanding & we love the atmosphere! I will definitely have parties at Mediterrano again! I highly recommend Saganaki, Souvlaki, & raspberry Baklava.

I enjoyed the food I ordered and my waitress was Ashley very good at what she does and checked on us often would deff recommend an will return myself

Incredible food, amazing service, excellent atmosphere! Had the most wonderful apps, sea bass, and the baked goods for dessert were delectable!

Great service!! We had two of the specials: chillean sea bass and red snapper, grape leaves app, cucumber sauce w pita app, and the baklava trio for dessert. Everything was great. We would definately come back!

OOmpa !!. I don't know how many meals I have enjoyed over my 57 years of dining out - -but now I know where I have had The Best meal of my life. Each course presented to us by the enthuisastic and attentive waitress was supburb. Recommend to all; cannot wait to go back (try to save room for desserts)

Delish !!!. First time visit to Mediterrano - and WE LOVED IT!! The staff was unbelievably fun & friendly (and helpful). Each item brought to us was Fresh & Hot. We tried various items and loved every one of them. We enjoyed a relaxing meal for almost 2 hours; by the time we left, the place was packed. We will certainly go back and have some of the same items but try a few new ones as well. Thrilled for another BYOB in the area. Kudos to Mediterrano !

Just the very best. My husband and I had dinner at Mediterrano on Tuesday evening. I am Greek so especially loved the greek music playing throughout the evening and the decor. We love the BYOB and were happy when Janine opened the bottle for us and brought the sparkling glasses so we could enjoy our wine. She also brought a basket of - bread? - no a basket of warm pita with a taste of delicious hummos .

We ordered the olive and feta appetizer and were both surprised at the amount of quality feta and olives we received. My Greek grandfather was a chef and my greek grandmother learned to make lamb the way he taught her - so I did not order lamb because I thought I might be disappointed. My husband ordered the Arni Souvlaki - lamb skewers. I tasted this - and wish I had ordered it. The local lamb was tender and perfecttly cooked and seasoned wonderfully. I can't wait to order the roasted leg of lamb or savory lamb shanks on our next visit.

The Mousaka - eggplant with meat sauce and bechamel, which I ordered was delicious. We also had the Fasolakia - green beans sauteed with tomatoes garlic and red onions and I am just raving about that also. The Baklava (everyone knows what that is!) was really delicious and satisfying (some baklava is not satisfying)
The Galaktouboureko - layers of phyllo with creamy custard is my husband's favorite and his only complaint was that it was not a bigger piece. He thought it was delicious.

I liked iMediterrano so much my sister in law accompanied me - the next day - for lunch after our shopping trip. She also will be back. On this day, I had the Avgolemono - silky egg, lemon with rice (just the correct amount of rice) soup. Everyone - I literally thought I was in heaven eating this absolutely perfectly made soup. If you have never had this - you don't know what you are missing. My grandmother made this also so I know.

I must mention that both servers, Janine on Tuesday evening and Ashley on Wednesday afternoon were very informative to be sure that we knew what we were ordering. Since this is a Greek restaurant, many people may not know everything about what they might be ordering and that everything was freshley made in the restaurant. Many people would definately not know and that the Village salad I ordered did not have lettuce - just the other chunky vegetables. I did know this, but Ashley made sure so I would not receive my salad and wonder where the lettuce was.

Lastly, if you don't like Greek food but your mate does, please try this restaurant. There is grilled and roasted chicken - and there is even some regular PIZZA which you should like. If you are a vegiterian, you will love this restaurant also. Even the Mousaka has a meatless version with a portobella instead of meat sauce. You can really eat healthy here and not be bored.

I'm going to have my leftovers for lunch.

Just OK. I read several rave reviews about this place and tried two times in Jan and Feb . Unable to get in as its very small and short on parkling. In April I did get seated as it was not crowded. I like the Gyro so I ordered that plus a greek salad. Salad was very good as was the flat bread and hummus . the Gyro was dissappointing though. The Pita bread was too thick, there was very little meat, some onions, no tomato, lots of lettuce and very little Tzatziki . The Tzatziki was very bland almost flavorless. I've had much better in the Strip District and other restaurants that serve Gyros even those that serve factory made ones. I ended up taking the meat out and ate 1/2 of the pita. Based on the Gyro I cannot give this place better than a slight below average rating. I'kll try again but not the Gyro. My Gyro salad and Ice tea came to almost $15.00./plus tip. The waitress was very good and attentive. There are better Gyros with more meat and better sauce for less money at several other places. There prices are a little high but not out of line .2.5 stars out of 5

Great Place. This place is absolutely perfect! I drove by and had no idea what it was, so I went in to check it out for lunch with my cousin. Best Greek food I have ever had. The smell was fantastic, and the food itself was even more incredible. I got the gyro and fries for $8.50. Very reasonably priced for a lunch and the best food I have ever had! The lamb was so tender and the fries are cooked and season in a way that I have never seen, but it was wonderful!!! My waitress, Ashley, was so welcoming and warm and she definitely boosted the experience even further! The decor of the place is also incredible and it has a great feel to it. I will certainly be going back and I will be sure to bring LOTS of friends when I come back.
Thank you for a great experience!-Especially from Ashley!
-Ryan

So Good!. One of our favorites places to eat. Always has delicious fish entrees that we love! Atmosphere is very inviting. Also, love the staff too!
Pittsburgh Magazine
Enjoy the simplicity of Mediterranean cuisine. Warm and cozy, giving off a rustic wine-cellar vibe, Mediterrano hits all the right notes with its Greek-focused dishes; housemade pita is served with hummus before spectacular dinner entrées like catch-of-the-day fish (branzino and red snapper, for example) or lamb shank are delivered. Even executive chef Ben Swiger makes appearances; he’s genuinely eager to explain ingredients and preparations. A surefire way to end the meal is with the baklava trio, perfectly sweet classics that leave you satisfied.

Over Priced. The food is not worth the price, and service was horrible. It's a one and done for me, I will definitely not be coming back.

Best Greek food I've had in Pittsburgh!. I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago because I had a groupon. There were 4 of us and I was excited to try the food as I'd heard good things. It did not disappoint. This restaurant is by far the best authentic Greek food I've had since living in Pittsburgh. Infact, I would go as far as to say its the best Greek food I've had in the USA! I am originally Greek and I know good Greek food, and this was it! We had mixed dips to start that were served with freshly warmed pitta bread. I had the pistachio for my entree and it was absolutely delicious - possibly even better than my mother's! It came with rice pilaf & I also ordered Greek potatoes with feta - delish but way too much as the portions were all huge! We also ordered a big Greek salad which was excellent. The people I was with also loved their food. The wait for the food was a little long, but it was clear that it was all freshly made to order and well worth the wait. I was not aware thy it's a BYOB which was a bummer, but I know for next time. The staff could not have been nicer which was a bonus. Although this is a fair way for me to travel to get to. I definitely plan on going back again, and soon. Bravo!
Sunny
Brunch. We just had brunch there and found it too expensive and extremely slow in service. Will not dine here again because the quality of the food is not worth the prices they charge.
Melissa
YUM. Had lunch there a few weeks ago; food was great. There are alot of selections on the menu and the lamb was perfect! Greek salad is huge (could be shared).
Michele
Great authentic Greek food. My husband and i were in Greece a few months ago, and I was craving some good Greek food. I happened upon an old newspaper review of Mediterrano and we decided to try it. It was really a wonderful little place - good service, nice people and great food! My husband had the moussaka, and I had one of the daily seafood specials, the grilled seabass served over lentils. Both dishes were wonderful, and we are planning a return visit as soon as possible.
UDFLY81
Small, quaint little place with excellent food and awesome service. Rachel was our server, and she was extremely pleasant and helpful. Lamb chops were velvety and the pork was very tasty, with lots of flavors. Highly recommend.

Very pleasantly surprised.... ...since it was our first time here. At 6:15 on Thursday, the dining room was about 1/3 full. It was packed when we left 90 minutes later.
I won't go into detail about each dish; rest assured all were outstanding. We started with complimentary pita with hummus, then came our ordered appetizer, Toast and Tapenade.
Ellinika salad preceded wife's Pita with grilled mushrooms accompanied by greek fries. Daughter had Spanaki pizza and I had Mousaka with roasted lemon potatoes and roasted green beans with pine nuts. Wonderful food! Zero complaints. Plenty leftover for next day lunch.
Bill came to $57 when we added Baklava sampler to take home.
Service was very good and Helena, the owners daughter, was a darling young lady who spent 5 to 7 minutes conversing with us.
We will definitely go back.

The greek pasta salad was very good i would go back

Not that great. Decided to take out some hummus.... Restaurant was not busy and my Order took way too long. I also asked for a taste of their avgholemono soup. It's almost in edible. It tasted like lemon. Period. Not only that they clearly use lemon concentrate not fresh lemons and the orzo was overcooked. Way better at Greek Stop only 15 min from here

-----14 Jan, 2012-----

Hmmm.... I was on my way home from the mall and decided to stop and try their Avgholemono soup, a tradtional Greek chicken lemon soup. First of all they put a lid on the take out bowl that practically melted? And i don't know who's mom's recipe this is, but it was absolutely horrible. I usually eat this soup at the Greek stop, which is phenomenal. This soup didn't taste anything like Greek tradition at all...........
Cid
Great Food!!!. I took my mom here for lunch after we gave blood at the staduim. The food was reallly reallllly good. Quaint place and the waiter was easy on the eyes. Will return here when I'm back in Pittsburgh.

Wonderful restaraunt decor with even better food. Appetizers were delicious, fish and lamb dishes were the best I've had in years, and byob made for a wonderful evening.

OK food, poor service. Mediterrano has great reviews on this site so we thought we would give it a try. Although everyone was very friendly, the service was quite poor. My wife ordered one of the specials . . . and it took half an hour for our waitress to inform us that it was no longer available, so she ordered another special and we waited a long time for our dinners. The service was slow and it was hard to find our waitress. When we asked for the bill, I asked for a gift certificate because I have a friend who wants to try the restaurant. I had to send the bill back to be corrected because we had been charged sales tax on the amount of the gift certificate. When I got home and went to send the gift certificate to my friend, I saw that it, which looks like a credit card, had an initial etched in the plastic and had a bunch of dirty smudge marks so I had to scrub it before sending it--in other words, it look like it was recycled but no one bothered to make sure it was in good enough shape to use again--VERY tacky.

The food was OK. The Greek salads were good, as was my wife's salmon special. My snapper special was mediocre.

Long story short, we were very much looking forward to eating at Mediterrano but were disappointed by the poor service.
JB
Everything about Mediterrano was outstanding!. My wife and I have wanted to try Mediterrano and finally made our way to this convenient location in the North Hills. We LOVED everything about this gem of a restaurant. The service was perfect - not overwhelming, and our server was courteous and informative. She answered every one of our questions about the menu, and recommended some excellent and savory choices. The Spanakopitakio - Phyllo with Spinach and Feta appetizer was my favorite. Very flavorful, with perfect blend of ingredients. I actually ordered an extra order of this treat "to go" for our son to enjoy - and did he ever! My wife is a hummus lover and has tried it the world over. The Revithosalata hummus appetizer offered at Mediterrano ranked near the top of her list of favorites! The pita bread that accompanied the dish was warm and fresh - delicious. I really delighted in the Avgolemona soup - lemon flavor with just the right amount of rice, perfect on a cold winter night. We shared several other dishes, and they were all perfectly prepared, and the combination of flavors was incredible. We were so happy we finally made it to Mediterrano. You MUST be sure to save room for perhaps the best dessert offerings in Western PA. We ordered four different ones, including the walnut and raspberry baklava, the fantastic butter cookies and our favorite of the favorites - the Kataifi - the phyllo dough treat with walnut & honey - outstanding! We had plenty of to go boxes when we got back home, as the food was plentiful, allowing us to share extras with the kids. They begged us to take them with us next time! Please do your safe a favor and go to Mediterrano! You'll thank me after you do...

Even better than "Yiayia's" Greek Cooking. For those of you non-Greeks out there, Yiayia means 'grandmother' in Greek; and I mean it when I say this food is even better than home cooking. The first time I went to Mediterrano, I was with a large group and we all ordered large plates and shared, since we were all Greeks we wanted to see how well the cooks and owners did with the recipes. And WOW were we impressed. The lemon, garlic, cumin, mint, cinnamon and nutmeg flavors...ahhhh, you could close your eyes and it would actually be believable that you were in Greece.

I could not recommend this place enough. I've been back several times since and am more impressed each visit. Sure, there isn't a lot of seating, which seems to be a big issue for folks on here - but all the great restaurants have that problem! It's worth the wait and delicious as a to-go order. For dessert, you HAVE to try the Kataifi, a pastry made from shredded wheat, walnuts and honey.

5/5 Stars from me!
I'm Still Hungry
Absolutely mouth watering food! Let's start with the appetizers, shall we? The stuffed grape leaves and fried zucchini were amazing. The hint of lemon in the stuffed grape leaves was a very nice touch that made the dish delectable. Now, the main course. The stuffed tomatoes were fantastic. The skewered lamb over rice was absolutely delicious. You may notice a theme here, and it continues through to dessert. We tried the baklava trio, chocolate, raspberry and plain baklava together on the same plate. That's a lot of bak! The chocolate was my favorite, tasting very rich and dark. Absolutely fantastic! My only regret is that I didn't exercise portion control so I could've eaten leftovers the next day. I guess I'll just have to go back ; )
Melissa
Amazing!!!. We would like to thank everyone at Mediterrano for doing such an AMAZING job at our wedding rehearsal dinner. From the tasting all the way up to the rehearsal dinner, everyone was so accommodating and easy to work with and it was truly appreciated. No detail was overlooked and I would like to give a special thanks to Helena for making our evening extra special. I know that a large dinner party can be challenging, but everyone was so flexible and great with everything. Not to mention the food was absolutely delicious! We have been back since and plan on stopping in a lot more in the future! Thank you again!!!
Dave
Very impressed!. Went to eat with my family last week for the first time. Being a chef at an upscale restaurant I am naturally very critical of food in general. I could not be more impressed with this places service, staff and food. I have been trained in greek cuisine, and these guys have mastered it! Great job and best of luck! You have a customer for life.

Great for Babcock Blvd. I was really excited to see this restaurant pop up along Babcock Boulevard in the North Hills nears my home. I had high hopes for it and it does not disappoint.

The greek fries are simple, but addictive. Rich and creamy feta generously sprinkled on hot fries with a little seasoning - I could eat these all day.

I typically get the moussaka. A very generous portion and its really good. Some times is seems to lack a little seasoning but other times it's spot on. Served with the rice (which is typically boring but not here) and it's a huge meal. I have enough leftover for the next day.

The desserts I've had are hit and miss. Stick with the baklava and you can't go wrong.

The interior is nicely done, clean and the service is great. A nice little addition to the North Hills - and the BYOB option is great.

On the fence.... First the bad: showed up early on a Friday evening and there was a wedding rehearsal consuming most of the space. My wife convinced me we should sit outside. It was a big mistake. Inches away from F150s in the parking lot (beer distributor next door) or heavenly views of busy traffic on Babcock. Then members of the rehearsal dinner decided to come outside and smoke a few feet away. Bottom line: it's so small you need to reserve a table. Don't take an outside table at any cost. As for the food I wasn't as impressed as many on this site. Tarama was fine as was chilled cucumber soup. Stuffed tomatoes a little too heavy on the orzo and the fish was a little overcooked. Service was ok, not great.
Chiotisa
Average. Although the food was not bad I was not as impressed. Perhaps as a Greek whose mother is a fantastic cook I am a bit spoiled. There is not a lot of parking. The waitress was not knowledgeable about the menu and after repeating my order several times she still managed to bring out an appetizer we did not order. The taramasalata was pretty blank and did not taste like any tarama I have ever had but my boyfriend thought it was great. The roasted lamb was a little sweet for my liking but still had a good taste to it. The greek french fries were either burnt or the oil in the fryers needs changed. I couldn't taste a hint of lemon on the lemon potatoes. I was however impressed with the greek lettuce salad. The portion was large, the olives and feta in it were great, and the dressing was amazing! The saganaki (fried cheese) was also delicious.

This was one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. The atmosphere was wonderful and the people were very welcoming. I ordered a pasta dish and it wad spectacular. The chef was amazing it had outstanding flavor and was perfect. Keep up the great work!

Possibly best Greek in Pittsburgh. My wife and I took our first trip to Mediterrano last week and were very impressed. It's the best Greek in Pittsburgh. I won't use hyperbole and say it's the greatest thing ever, but the food was quite delicious. We're both Greek so our expectations (standards) are pretty high.

The appetizers of grape leaves and soup were excellent. The grape leaves were pretty similar to our style (fatter, not long and narrow) and tasted great. The pita and hummus were also quite good.

My main course was a lamb rack. It was fabulous. Perhaps slightly more rare than I prefer, but that's just nitpicking. My wife's feta/spinach stuffed pork was perfect too. Really, the meat was just exceptional, moist, fresh, and delicious.

And the baklava trio (raspberry, chocolate, honey) for desert was amazing!

All of this AND it's BYOB ($4 corking fee) simply cannot be beat. We've been to other Greek restaurants in Pittsburgh (no names mentioned) but this is definitely the best. Will surely be back soon.

Last minute choice on a Wednesday, incredible!. Thinking of places to eat on a rainy Wednesday on a week off but spending it at home in Pittsburgh. Been here once before and thought it was great. Three of us, one never having eaten Greek food....now a convert.
The Grape leaves are the best and unique, greek salads excellent, (not just some lettuce and feta, no skimping on
ingredients), my Moussaka was memoriable and My partner who is not a fan of egg plant tried it and wants to order it next time. The Avgolemono (sp?) soup a lemon delight. Wait staff friendly, helpful and attentive.
I appreciate the small scale and intimacy of the space, makes you feel special. Will not wait several months again to return. Made my vacation week at home seem like a trip away.

Welcome Greek Cuisine!. What a wonderful little Greek restaurant we found tucked away in a nondescript part of the North Hills! Being of Greek heritage, and traveling to New York often on business, I have an opportunity to enjoy some really good Greek food both at home and when on the road. My husband and I were pleased to find such authentic Greek food right here at home! The menu was interesting to read through--trying my best to read the Greek names of some of the dishes. Our server made the meal all the more enjoyable, being engaging and attentive. The dolmades and warm cheese appetizers were very good. My husband enjoyed a lamb dish and I had a nice sweet tasting fish--the evening special. Desserts ended up in our to-go bag.
We've taken friends back with us for another enjoyable evening. Great job on bringing good Greek food to our part of town!

So So. The entire place is too small for the kind of restaurant it is, parking is a nightmare and the dining area is crammed. Would be perfect for a cafe or deli. Most of the food is good, but way overpriced for what you get. Probably won't go back.

Not impressed at all. I took my wife there about month ago after hearing so many good things about it, we were excited to go. Once we were seated, it took at least 10 minutes before our waitress acknowledge us. We then waited another 15 minutes for our dolmades to come out, which weren't very good. We finally got our meals after another long wait but didn't receive our side salads until later, after asking our waitress numerous times. The best part of our meal was my wife's moussaka it was wonderful, but my souvlaki was overcooked and very tough. Our waitress didn't seem to care whether we were satisfied our not, and rarely came to our table. The decor inside was nice, but besides the pictures of Greece on the walls, it looked more like a Italian restaurant. The entire wait staff seemed very young, inexperienced, and immature. There was a young lady greeting everyone, who I later found out was the manager. She was very nice but looked like she was about 16 and had no clue how to run a restaurant. This shows the lack of experience this city has in Greek cuisine, if they think this is great a Greek restaurant. Mediocre at best.

Horrible Food and Service. Went there for dinner tonight what a horrible experience. Food is WAY overpriced for what you get. This is a re-heat restaurant that clearly does not cook to order. Everything we had from the appetizer to the dinner was just horrible. Food was dried out and not even served hot at all. Too expensive and the service was horrible. Would never go back again.

A Keeper. I have been to Mediterrano X3 and enjoyed each visit. My husband especially loves the stuffed grape leaves. My two favorites are the gyro and the rice pilaf - both superb! I highly recommend this restaurant.

In a land (North Hills) of few great restaurants, this place is a true gem. With the first bite of my vegeterian pita sandwich I was hooked. Out of this world!! Plus, it was served with a huge pile of greek fries (with feta). Absolutely wonderful, classy ambience, very diverse Greek menu. The owner and his daughter (hostess) were very welcoming and warm and I just can't say enough about the food!! With some improvement in service, Mediterrano will be one of the very best in Pittsburgh!!

Opa!. Authentic Greek food here. All deliciously prepared and served with a smile. We have been there twice and plan to go back again ... and again ... and again!

Great Birthday Dinner. We had a family diner for folks from age 10 to age 70. The menu was broad enough to satisfy all of us. As a Pastiticio fan I had a great meal. Our granson loved the gyro and our daughters th kabob. My sister liked it so much she took her family back for a Sunday dinner.

Very genuine. I tried Mediterrano a few months ago and thought it was very authentic and refreshing. The food was great! The waitress we had must've been new, she seemed unsure and was a little timid - but still very nice and friendly. I loved the atmosphere and decor. Def will be visiting again soon!

Great place. Really enjoyed the food and the company at Mediterrano. Nice music, polite and hospitable service. I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone, food and dessert were great!!! Best restaurant food I've had in a very long time. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This is our first time here. Food is amazing. Best gyro I have ever had. The gyro meat was not your typical shaved meat you get at the fairs. The service was friendly. Decor is warm and homey. The prices are high. It's not cheap. And they don't have a children's menu. We ordered the dip sampler and our 3 yr old son ate that and some of my gyro. The kitchen is very slow so don't go if you're in a hurry. Would come back again for a nice date.
Michelle
I'LL BE BACK!. The atmosphere, service and food are wonderful! I can't wait to go back. I especially enjoyed the Mousaka that was served vegetarian style for lent! It was incredible! I am one very happy foodie!

Great Place - Go There. My wife and I ate there last Friday. Excellent food for a very moderate price. The waiter was excellent - pleasant and joked with us when we were silly. We each brought one of those tiny bottles of wine from the state store. They brought us glasses and did not charge any kind of "corkage" fee like some places do. We each had wonderful meals (sea bass, caper berries, spinach, etc.) with great desserts for about $23 a person (not including tip.) We learned that the chef was trained at one of the the Pittsburgh culinary academies and the recipes are in Greek tradition handed down in the owner's family.

I could not recommend this restaurant any more! Go there!!

They could do better!. We ate there today for the first time. I was excited to be there, but disappointed by the food.

My son wanted a gyro. They had a gyro on the menu for $6.50 and one that was a "Lunch Special" for $8.50. The lunch special said, "With greek Fries." When it came, the fries were on the gyro, not on the side like we thought. There were only about 10 skinny fries on the sandwich and harly woth $2.00 more. By the time the waiter came back, his only suggestion was to give my son more fries. We didn't want to wait for that.

I ordered a salad, which was very good, and soup. My meal was also $8.50. The soup was bean and escarole. I love bean soup. this was the worse soup I've EVER had in my life! it had no flavor and tasted like water. I ended up adding salt and pepper, which I never do, it was still terrible. Another woman complained about the soup while we were there. The 2 ladies beside us got the same soup and I saw them loading it with salt and pepper after they had taken a few bites.

My son said that his gyro was good, and the pita bread and hummus was good. The staff really doesn't seem to care whwether you are satisfied or not and I left there hungry. I would not go back!

Treasure of the North Hills. I went to Mediteranno for dinner on a Friday night and was absolutely AMAZED by the the entire experience. Very lovely and not the feel you expect in the North Hills. I thought I walked into a place in Shadyside. The food was increadable! With touches like caperberries in with my sea bass my breath was taken away. Friendly wait staff and we got to meet the owners Frank and Katina. Wonderful people who have a flair for food and atmosphere Do yourself a huge favor and visit Maditerrano you will be very glad decided to have dinner there.

Not Good. We were so excited after reading the reviews, that we had to go there. Tuesday night....55 min wait for food. Steak was not fresh and couldn't be eaten, $16.00 Salad consisted of veggies and no greens...Lamb was undercooked....Very disappointed. What happened to this place? So disapointed
Amy
Small but good. It is very small but the food was yummy! I'll definitely go back!

Oh,,,,ahh.......OMG.......Love It.......... As a CFS, Certified Food Senualist, I cannot say enough about this place! The Dolmades are out of this word! The Salads, unbelievable....The seafood, fresh and well presented, oh, ah, ah the Gyro's no words can describe, The side of veggies are so perfect! I am an East Ender and I thought we have a few good Mediterrian eatery's here but this place is worth the drive! The wait-staff, esp my Fav-OMAR is great, the ower came out on my last vist (have been there the last 3 friday's) was so sweet and nice. My new addiction--a Wonderful Addiction-please treat yourself and go--go quickly b4 this place gets too famous and you will have to wait for a resveration!

Little baby sheep from heaven. I love greek style lamb any way I can get it and there is no better lamb in the states than Elysian fields. Grassfed, truly organic, raised the way the good lord intended combined with a cooking style any greek grandma would be impressed with. slow roasted shanks cooked in red wine and lamb stock served dripping in its own juices fresh herbs carrots celery and onions. omg lamb chops out of this world rubbed with fresh herbs heavy on the rosemary, garlic, and olive oil grilled to perfection. they even have lamburgers! organic burgers! $13!!! I have eaten a lot of gourmet overpriced lamburgers that were dry n gamey. This was different I don't know what they did to this meat but I wanna lock the chef in my room and make him cook little baby lamb for me all day. It came with feta on the burger and the fresh cut fries also a side of lemon aoli. This dish compliments itself like a bad salesman trying to push his product. (thats a lot) I have paid way more for way less and I pray that they raise the prices or It will be all gone and there will be none for me.

Out of this world experience!!!. OK we call ourselves "food sensualists" and one of our favorite things is finding a great new place to enjoy. We CAN NOT get this restaurant out of our thoughts. The food is FANTASTIC. Its all so fresh and so wonderfully prepared the flavors are subtle and fab. I would swear they have a portal to a small home kitchen in Greece. The grape leaves are perfection, I have had seafood (both shrimp and scallops), perfectly seasoned & presented. The dinner salad is THE BEST SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD. Fresh with a dressing that is light and flavorful. The gyro meat is out of this world. I am not a dessert person but let me tell you. They have this apple dessert that I actually ate and had to get one to go!!! The service is great. The servers (especially Omar) are really nice and attentive. We have treated 4 people to this restaurant and THEY ALL ARE GOING BACK. Seriously you MUST TRY THIS PLACE. It is the BEST restaurant we have discovered in over 5 years. The owners are also very personable.

Good & bad. Beautiful decor and attentive, if young, wait staff. Both roast leg and lamb and roast chicken came swimming in au jus, which sogged up otherwise the nice roasted potatoes served with each of these dish. The leg of lamb appeared to be rolled instead of flat slices, which I would have preferred. Both the scallop dish and the xorta were too salty. Its byob.

2013 Valentine's Day!. For the past three years my wife and I enjoyed dining on Valentine's Day at Mediterrano. The service and food were excellent (as always!). My entree was the lamb chops. The chops were sweet and perfectly cooked. The staff made our evening a culinary adventure. I would highly recommend Mediterrano and consider it one of the best new restaurants in Pittsburgh!

-----19 Feb, 2011-----

One of the best new restaurants!. My wife and I have eaten there 6 times since its opening early in 2011. Our most recent meal was on Valentine's Day. The restaurant created a special 5 course meal which was simply spectacular. The food is freshly prepared, elegantly presented and priced moderately. Using fresh ingredients and their careful attention to preparation make each dish delicious. It has become so popular as of recent, reservations are suggested on the weekends.

Excellent Food. We couldn't be happier with our food selections! Very authentic Greek dishes. The service was excellent too. The owner made a special effort to welcome and mingle with each table. He was also open to adding additional vegetarian selections.
We will be regulars!
One recommendation to future patrons: Make a reservation in advance.

Wonderful!. Have been driving past Mediterrano for several months waiting for it to open. Finally it is and we weren't dissapointed! The food, the atmosphere, the service...all were great! Our table of six ordered different items and all were pleased. Once word gets out it will likely be hard to get a table. Happy to know they take reservations!
Heidi Rhodes Sestrich
Excellent!. We've been waiting for this restaurant to open - it was worth the wait! Food was great, service efficient and friendly. The owner stopped to make sure everything was okay and to chat with us. He said they are taking baby steps getting the place up and running, but have a lot of plans for the future. The decor is warm and inviting - this is a great addition to North Hills dining.
Amanda
Loved it!. The food was absolutely delicious! The genuine Greek cuisine with the added touch from family recipes made it definitely worth the trip. The restaurant itself was quaint, warm, and had a relaxing atmosphere, which went well with the friendly and welcoming staff that went out of their ways to make our time there as enjoyable as possible. Cannot wait to go back and have some of the city's best baklava!!!
Stefanie
BEST greek food!. I've only lived in Pittsburgh for 4 years, and this is the best Greek restaurant that I've found! You know the atmosphere of a restaurant is great when a table of old friends next to us stayed for hours until the place closed, just catching up and having some laughs. When you're there, you feel like your home. The service is great and the servers are a lot of fun. The food....I can't even begin to describe! AMAZING! The restaurant is family owned, and they're Greek and have spent time in Greece, so I'm certain its authentic as it can get in Pittsburgh!! I highly recommend Mediterrano for any date, family gathering, or just out with friends.

Magnifico!. Dolmades (Grape Leaves)- excellent! I could sit and eat them there all night. Very friendly and quick service. We hit the timing just right, because we were not there long before tables were filling and business booming, a true testament to how well organized the staff is. We've all been in a place where we feel rushed, ignored, and like the next person in line, Definetly not the case here! Glad my wife suggested it, will definetly be returning to try some of the other menu items, everything we had was exceptional. If my 6 year-old liked it, then they must be doing something right! Family friendly and elegant decor, can't say enough about this gem, other that location, location, location!- Very easy to get to from any area of Pittsburgh, we came from Monroeville area and it only took us 15-20 mins. to get there!
PittsburghMom
PittsburghMom. My family and I ate at Mediterrano for the first time. We thought the food was wonderful. Grape leaves were TO DIE FOR. Wonderful service, Wonderful atmosphere, makes you feel that you are in Greece. Very reasonably priced. You can't have dinner without ordering dessert, it was all wonderful. We will be back! We have a small child who can't wait to eat there again. Big applause to the entire staff for making this resturant a great success.

Fabulous!!!!. By far the best Greek Mediterranean Cuisine. Had the Mousaka ..yummy. My hubby had the grilled lamb, done perfecto. Small and tastefully decorated with all the best
Greek dishes. Portion and prices were good. The owner greeted us and sat with friends next to us to dine, very nice man and friendly. This is a must try restaurant..will definately go back...hummus was to die for.

Robert Podolinski. WOW!
Authentic Greek Cuisine and did I say in the City of Pittsburgh? I did indeed! Great food, great atmosphere, great portions, super service, and quite reasonably priced. And the grape leaves are a must! I had one dinner there, a take out lunch, and a take out dinner, and the restaurant just recently opened!
I'm hooked!

Food good... service need help. Summary: Food was very good, service is disorganized.

My girlfriend and I decided to try Mediterrano after work. We arrived a little after 6. The hostess said the wait was 15 mins to 1/2 hr, or take out is available. We were both starving so we opted for takeout. The wait for take out turned out to be closer to 45mins. While waiting we notice a few things. (1) Most importantly they lost at least 12 customers, by either the hostess not being there or waiters walking past guests without acknowledgedly them (if hostess was not there) or simply leaving after waiting 15mins. (2) A lot of wasted space - the presentation of entrance area gives it a nice atmosphere, which appears they sunk a lot money into it. It is very impressive & spacious, but it appears to be just for show... that area could easily fit at least another 4 tables. (3) glass food cases were empty - which should they should be showing off the yummy desserts, instead of veggies on top of granite slabs. (4) no website to view the lunch, take out and dinner menus. (5) only bottle soda and water, (so i'd assume no free refills?) (6) never saw a manager.

My girlfriend order the gyro pita, side of rice and pasta sokolata (chocolate lava cake). She said it was very good, but they forgot the side of rice.

I had Hirino Souvlaki (skewered grilled pork over rice pilafi). It was very good also. the portion though seemed small for $13. I had Pasta Kafe (espresso cake) for dessert.

Conclusion: I will order take out again, but by phone. I may try sit down dinner again in a few months.

If you are in the mood for authentic Greek/Mediterranean food then you have to try Mediterrano. The portion sizes were very generous and the grape leaves (Dolmades) were fantastic. We have been really looking forward to the opening of this restaurant and couldn't be happier. The owner came out and talked with us and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely be back!
The Red Headed Traveler
For a rather unassuming restaurant, it was one of the best meals I had had in a long time and the service could not have been any more friendly or attentive.
