Visiting from out of town. Had the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches on rye, which was fantastic! Price was really reasonable with friendly service. Thanks for a great meal!
Ordered a tuna salad on marble rye Swiss cheese pickle, lettuce, tomato. Great service, energetic atmosphere. Best part, they are busy and fast!

Smallmans deli, I will always love you :) Delicious, made with local meats, cheeses, and breads. Small sit in area with a nice vibe. Kind employee, he answered all of our questions. Quick service! Can't wait to come back!
1st time there today because I was on a search for house made pastrami. Well I found the spot for sure here!! Along with many other selections I'll have to come back and try my rueben sandwich and fresh cut fries really hit the spot.
I ordered To Go food for lunch. It was prepared quickly and the food was warm and tasty. will definitely be ordering from them again!

Nice spot. I don't order out for lunch often but this place has some good reviews and a good reputation. They seem to be most known for their substantially large sandwiches like the rueben as well as latkes, matzah ball soup, and other items. I decided to try their MnM cookies and the simple grilled cheese.
You can't really go wrong with a grilled cheese; it's pretty simple. But, they do make it well here. The portion is decent and the price is also reasonable. Compared to some of their other sandwiches, it is smaller but also quite a bit cheaper (other sandwiches are generally somewhat expensive but have large portions). They use classic American cheese, which had a slight plastic taste but it was still good. Bread was still somewhat crispy and buttery. Added bonus is that they serve the sandwich with a pickle spear. Good pickle portion and very flavorful.
They offer numerous baked goods and desserts as well. They gave me two cookies. I'm not sure if that's the standard portion or if they were just feeling generous. Either way they were very tasty. Plenty of MnMs and nice crispy edges.
All in all, would recommend if you want to stop by for lunch. Could be a bit expensive if you order a large sandwich. But, great location and a fair amount of lunch options.
My search is over! Smallman Street Deli makes the world's best Reuben Sandwich...period! Beyond that the menu is full of great stuff, the fries are delicious...and plentiful, and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect from a neighborhood deli...and a diverse clientele. Staff is helpful and friendly and the prices are reasonable for the huge amount of food they serve. It'll be the first place I stop next time I'm in Pittsburgh. Thanks!

I rode my motorcycle 45 miles to dine here. I had the “You can’t eat it” pastrami sandwich with Swiss. It was fantastic. I’ll be back.
1st time to Pittsburgh and had to try a deli sandwich while i was here. I ordered a turkey club sandwich on wheat. Delicious!! Nothing special to dine at. But get a sandwich to go for sure.
Owner is always wonderful! We stop here on our way to Restaurant depot to stock up on food for our truck.. So far the Reuben with fries and slaw on it is my absolute favorite! My cane corso loves the grilled cheese and some of our French fries.
I get a Rueben everytime so I truly cannot review any other sandwich.
Ruebens are my favorite sandwich and this place perfects that art. It is in the south side which is a ways out for me to go, but there isn’t a single time I do go to the south side without getting this Rueben.
All the staff are nice and welcoming and it is a nice building to eat in. Clean and interesting aesthetic.
One of the best pastrami Reuben sandwiches I have had. Very tender meat with a perfect balance of sauerkraut, meat,cheese, and sauce. This sandwich may look a little dark on the outside but don’t be deceived, it was delicious!
Online ordering was quick and easy. Pastrami was piled high on delicious fresh bread.
Needed to find a new deli after a bad experience with my current (old) one. Smallman Street Deli was the next closest and let's face it, I love buying specialized grocery items in the strip. The interaction with the employees was great, they were very friendly and talked to you like they knew you their entire lives. I didn't plan on ordering any sandwiches (since I didn't know they had them) but I figured why not, new deli let's see what they got. I asked what he recommended, without hesitation he said the Reuben, perfect I love Reuben. I then grabbed a bag of sun chips and a diet Dr. Browns cream soda (wow) and enjoyed one of the best reubens I've ever had in the comfort of my own home. Top notch service, top notch food, top notch deli meats! Even the meats were wrapped better than I've ever seen. Smallman Street Deli gained a new customer in me for sure!
Best deli near CMU, no doubt. Pastrami & Corn Beef combo is the way to go.
