MUST GO Mama made authentic South Korean Bakery! It was a hidden gem in Pitts. You should really try to go early, otherwise most of buns are gone. They have what they have until they don't have anymore! My favorite one is sticky rice red bean filling donuts and purple sweet potato cake.
She also carries the best bubble tea in the town, I know I may be biased, but also I am a picky eater. She has two or three in door sittings as well.
If you bring your kids and show big smile, she will give you a free cup of milk.
I've been to Sumi's a few times and have never been disappointed. The green tea cake was so light and airy and just the right amount of sweetness. The bubble tea is amazing. The subororo with butter cream
Everything I've had here has been delicious! Make sure to stop by around 1230 to get the hot buns fresh from the oven. The green tea flavor is especially good.
The cakes are awesome!! We have gotten many birthday cakes from there now!!
I've tried just about all of the sweet buns and bubble teas and everything is spectacular.
If you haven't tried this bakery out yet you are missing out. The buns are semi sweet, light, fluffy and packed with flavor! I love the green tea buns and peanut butter crumble. You can tell sumi uses high quality ingredients in everything that she makes. Try it soon!
Best bakery in the city! Definitely a must stop if you are in Squirrel Hill!
Nice little place for quick cakes or shaved ice. The green tea shaved ice was good, a little too much green tea powder though. There’s also only a large portion size, so you’ll need some friends.
an extremely welcoming and informative staff. These are great people and they do some really cool stuff that you haven’t even seen on Instagram so definitely check them out. New location coming soon to the strip district so that’s good to hear.
One of the best best shave ice , come here every summer!
This place is fantastic there are many delectable delights that you just can't get anywhere else the flavors and the unique items were fantastic I highly recommend if you're passing through Pittsburgh stop by this awesome Asian bakery. The staff was very friendly and well spoken prices were clearly marked and covid precautions were in place to keep everyone safe. Try the garlic cream cheese bread photos below
As I walked in the baker was bringing out fresh coffee and green tea buns. The smell was intoxicating. I purchased a cream filled bun and a coffee bun. To be honest when I saw the coffee buns I didn’t think they would be anything different then some warm fresh bread. After getting home I tried a bite of my two goodies, the coffee bun is in-flipping-sane! So I love me some chocolates and sweet treats, I can not get over the flavor, sweetness and texture of the coffee bun. I would love to buy a dozen next time. The cream bun, I’m not sure if that cream is a sweet, whipped butter or not but that is also absolutely delicious, I can’t put my finger on the exact flavor but also love to buy a dozen the next time!
Called for a small green tea cake. Picked it up for my spouse's birthday two days later. It was really delicious and very pretty. Not too sweet. It was a simple pick up and ready to go when I arrived. A knife to cut the cake was included in the box.
I was looking for 2 last minute birthday cakes and I’m so glad I found Sumi’s! I ended up getting the Mango cake, Strawberry cake, and a slice of Green Tea cake for myself to try. They were ALL delicious!! Seriously, the mango cake was probably one of the best mango cakes I’ve ever had. The mango and strawberries both tasted fresh and the cakes were not too sweet aka perfect for my Asian taste buds.
The green tea cake slice was equally as delicious and had pieces of red bean in it!
I also grabbed a couple pastries to try out as well and those did not disappoint. Highly recommend the condensed milk bread and the red bean bun.
I can’t wait to come back to try all the other desserts and pastries!!
Very yummy matcha green tea cake! The cream is very yummy and not too sweet! I would definitely recommend this place and will come back for more. The cake stays fresh and tastes good after a few days as well.
A little pricy for a shaved ice but TOTALLY worth it and the portion is really big! So glad that I tried it. It was so delicious and authentic! The ice itself is from milk. Love that they use good ingredients. Definitely want to try other flavors. This is red bean flavor.
I find it hard to give this place a rating because it has a lot of interesting Korean deserts you won't find elsewhere but I don't personally like many of them. It's certainly worth trying out if you haven't had something like a shaved milk desert or macha/custard deserts.
They have a lot of delicious sounding bread that you don't see in other bakeries. The cake is delicious as well, a little pricey by the slice but you get a BIG slice.
Great bubble tea! Lots of flavors. And the pastries are fantastic.
They have amazing desserts! Their green tea cake was really really good and the buttercream is light. Their other food items are pretty delicious and very reasonably priced
This is my favourite cakery in the world! Their cakes are very light (both the sponges and the cream) and have real fruits in them. The mango cake is seasonal and the best thing on the menu w real mango bits between two sponge layers -- gorgeous!!
Also try the crispy hotdog and sausage rolls -- very nice snacks! Only complaint is how little they're open on weekends but I applaud Sumi's work life balance!! :))
Red bean buns, strawberry cake, earl grey cake, green tea cake, red bean bingsu, mixed fruit (mango, blueberry, strawberry, and grapes) bingsu, cappuccino, etc. We were couch lounging and this came up on our online search for bingsu. There is not a ton of seating, but late afternoon on a Saturday we were able to order our bingsu and find a seat to enjoy it. You can buy a full cake or individual slices. Prices are reasonable, and the location is great in Squirrel hill.
Got a slice of the green tea cake and a slice of the strawberry cake to go. Both were delicious as always!
I stopped in here on a whim and I very rarely write reviews - but the desserts I picked up here were absolutely amazing. We tried the green tea cake and strawberry cake. I am obsessed. The icing is the best icing I have ever had in my life.
Creative offerings and not too sweet cakes! I highly recommend their bingsu(offered only during the summer).
I was in the area and stopped by a little before closing time. I bought a couple of green tea buns and red bean bread, and they were delicious. Green tea buns were soft inside, just a little sweet, and had a tasty crust. Will definitely go again.
