The food here was excellent and the place was clean and well ordered despite it being a restaurant next to a beer store and in the middle of a major university.
This place is open super late to serve the drunk college students and I'm glad they are because after 10pm finding a place for a sit down dinner is a challenge.
The food we got was excellent and was brought to our table in quick order. Our server did forgot a few things we ordered which disappointed the family members whose stuff they forgot but we had ordered enough for them to feel full as well. When we told the server she had forgotten a few things she didn't seem to care and just came back with our bill.
I think during the day or when Pitt students are not around the experience would have been better, it's clearly also geared towards takeout as there were a ton of people coming in and out to pick up orders so the server was probably annoyed we were sit in guests.
I'm still giving this place a 5 because the food was excellent but the service gets a 1 star due to the server.
If your looking for takeout this place would be perfect because of their speed.
One thing to note is there is basically zero parking after 7pm because all the streets become permit only at that time.
ANOTHER FOODIE’S FIND for A SUPERB THAI in Pittsburgh, a town littered with dismal so-called Thai eateries. This establishment has a good menu, several entrees look a concoction of a creative chef.
There are appetizers that deceptively look like lifted from Americanized Chinese-style food, BUT their flavors are classic Thai, mildly sweet spiced with tangy, slightly sweet dipping sauces. I refer to the Crispy Chicken Eggrolls, generously packed with well seasoned ground chicken; and the Thai Steam Dumpling served with sprinkling of scallions on a fresh lettuce leaves.
Entrees recommended as of October 2022:
1. Crispy Duck Pad Thai: classic pad Thai with boneless duck breast and fresh bean shoots and ground peanuts. No sauce needed with the noodles oozing with sauce they were made in.
2. Eggplant Basil with tofu, exquisitely vegetarian with mild brown sauce. This is not like the sugar-sweetened one prepared by other places. Sweetness to the taste is the natural goodness of fresh aubergine and veggies.
3. Duck Curry, exquisitely Thai in mild curry with veggies. Simply delicious!
I ordered them heat level 4, which lifts up the flavors of goodness.
Oh, don’t forget to use the spoon instead of the fork or chopsticks. Spooning with rice sups up all the goodness in the sauces.
Very highly recommended.
Doesn't look like much as you come in, but truly the food was phenomenal. The food came quite quickly and came piping hot. The veggies were slightly on the more raw side and could have been left to cook for a little bit more! The fried rice was truly delectable, well seasoned and I highly recommend.
As for the panang curry, I find myself somewhat an expert when it comes to this dish. I've had this dish at every Thai restaurant I've ever been (one every week for the past 10-12 years of my life) and in Thailand itself. This panang curry was truly really great, portion size was good and the veggies were really good complements to the tofu. The tofu felt a little over cooked (it was chewier than normal). Can easily feed two-three people. **Warning, they top this dish with peanuts
Pad Kee Mao is a great substitute for aversive rice eaters. Well cooked and well seasoned noodles!
Dinging a point only because the interior was dirty, music was really loud and hard to talk over, and service was a little less than hospitable!
Hospitality: 4/5
Food Quality: 5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Overall, was very happy to dine here and I'll be back!
Very cool place! I especially love the hours and how late they are open. So if you ever feel the need to grab noodles at midnight, this is your place. And, the quality as well as prices are both quite good. I tried the pad see ew with the tofu as well as the Thai custard. Both were very tasty.
The portion for the pad see ew was great. And, the flavors were as well. For $12.50, it's pretty tough to beat. They used plenty of fresh vegetables like broccoli and carrots. I enjoyed that they thoroughly cooked these vegetables since I like them slightly softer. The sauce is tasty and flavorful. The tofu is well soaked in the sauce and high quality. Very good overall.
The Thai custard was also great. I ordered on Uber Eats, and there was no option for Thai custard, but I asked them to replace the mango sticky rice with the custard and they did so, so props to them for reading the note! The custard is delicious and a great texture. So is the rice. I would have liked a bit more coconut milk though.
All in all, this is a great option for anyone seeking out Thai food in this area. It's a great late night meal as well. The pad see ew is great and so is the Thai custard. It's high quality Thai food.
This place is the real deal and I'm glad we stumbled upon it. It's a small hole-in-the-wall type place with only a handful of tables, the owner was really sweet and kind to us, and the food was amazing. Can't remember the last time I had an egg roll that didn't taste previously frozen - Ocha's were fresh and flaky with a perfect duck sauce to go with them. The summer rolls were exquisite. Our soups were very tasty and quenched my appetite. If we didn't live so far away, we would definitely make eating here a regular occurrence.
Absolutely delicious and authentic. I work very late hours and as a working professional I don’t want to eat pizza at 11 PM all the time) so I was grateful to be able to get a fresh meal and so beautiful. Just a heads up: I really like spicy food, but five was almost too much for me. But I fixed that by adding a little bit of coconut milk on my own. So just watch if you’re sensitive to spicy other than that? I’ll be back.
Ordered here twice so far and both pretty good. I like my fried tofu crispy but the texture of these were more on the softer side. They definitely give you enough food to eat for two days. Spicy Basil rice great both times! Also had the orange chicken, good!
Ka prow with egg - excellent. Pad kee mao - pretty good. Fried rice acceptable. Other stuff, meh. How can the masaman curry not have potatoes or be thickened? Strange watery concoction with big carrots. Overall, ok considering options late night.
So so so good!!! The pad thai and massaman curry were phenomenal, and you can’t beat a $3 thai iced tea! Ocha is such a gem in South Oakland - we will definitely be coming back!
A surprisingly amazing Thai food place!
My friends and I were blown away with the quality of the food. The chicken fried rice was the best I've ever had!
My friends loved their panang too.
Nokky was very nice and treated us to a free appetizer.
Definitely coming back!
I ordered through Uber Eats, restaurant was too fast to cook and deliver my food. Pad thai was awesome, really well cooked, good presentation and really generous portion (I did can eat two days!). For sure I will order again !!
It's a small place.thw food was delicious. Byob.we had salad with ginger dressing, veggie roll and masamman curry with noodles.
We ordered something very late and didn’t realize that we were allergic to one of the ingredients, and they remade everything and still let us dine in. Excellent service!
its like a hidden treasure 😂😁 the parking is so challenging!
but im so satisfied with the ocha noodle soup
soooo good!
i love chicken bang bang and pad thai. chicken orange and beef noodle are also good. the price is also reasonable. the staff and owner are so kind and friendly. very good service :)
