What an amazing meal and service. Came on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint!
The cabbage roll was just like my great grandmother user to make and the sauce it was in was absolutely decadent. The vareniki was so delicious as well. The short rib borscht was unlike any borscht I had ever tasted - perfectly salted and so flavourful.
We ended up there for an early dinner after missing lunch and the happy hour was so worth it! The food specials allowed us to try a bit of everything just like we wanted to!
Finally, the service. Every member of the staff was so attentive with their recommendations and truly made the experience social and vibrant.
We will be back next time we're in Portland!
An incredible experience. Every plate was delicious and interesting. The infused vodka drinks were exquisite and really complemented the food. Would 100%recommend trying this place, as it is a quite niche cuisine that you can't find often in the US. It's even better for big groups of people.
Great place to try some Russian styled food. They have a large selection of house infused vodkas each with a unique flavor. This place is great for ordering a lot of dishes and sharing with the table. My top item was the beef and lamb cabbage roll in tomatoes.
This place is absolutely delicious and amazing. Don't be scared away with words like 'reservation for dinner' and all that. They accept walk ins. Might be a wait, but it is absolutely worth it! Also, be available to drink because their infusions are amazing.
Loved everything! We had the meat dumplings, the trout, the salmon roe and the rabbit. All delicious! This with a beer and wine came to a reasonable $150 total (Including service). Wish we could eat there every night, but we live in LA š
Kachka really surprised me. I came here for dinner with a big group and when we arrived the private room was nicely set up with appetizers waiting. I was initially skeptical about the food because Iāve never been to an Eastern Europe restaurant before but Iām happy I decided to give the food a try! I was blown away by how good everything was. From the fish to the dumplings. Definitely had a great time eating here.
We love this place with all our being. The space is lovely, the leather chairs are so comfortable as well as the benches. There's not a bad seat in the space. Every time we come in the staff are all so welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. This is probably the best staff in the city, and we say this as fellow restaurant professionals. We made this our voting day spot because it is right next to the polling station, but it has become our favorite restaurant to frequent. The food is incredibly satisfying, fresh, and the vodka infusions are a lovely adventure each time we visit. The happy hour menu is also great, the cabbage roll special comes out on the cutest tray reminiscent of a tv dinner but full of delightfully crafted items that leave you full and feel like you got your money's worth.
Took our kids here for their birthday dinner and they absolutely loved the experience. Beautiful setting and atmosphere and the dishes were fun to share. Would definitely be back for more with friends. They also have a well stocked bar with delicious drinks. Kids have since learned how to make herring under a fur coat after trying that dish at Kachka.
Just as good as NOBU but eastern European.
Give this place a Michelin star--wait don't, cause then I'll never get a reservation again š jk.
I haven't been so happy after a meal in years. Keep up the good work!
What a delight. You walk in to find a restaurant decorated like an old world Slavic cottage and a fantastic menu of elevated favorites from a variety of countries. We tried and loved the full zakuski menu accompanied by horseradish infused vodka shots which was all delicious. We also added the sour cherry vareniki which were luscious perfect bites. Outstanding service capped off our happy experience.
Alright, so I was a bit hesitant about trying this place. I really hate politics in my foodā¦and this place has it blasting in your face with their comrades and Soviet era posters all over the wall. Plus theyāve got a āvaluesā page on website that has nothing to do with food. Agh⦠then there is the auto added 22% gratuity
However, if you can get past that fluff or theme they portray the food is excellent. Specifically the dumplings, rabbit, pickled dishes, unique cocktails, and one of a kind infused vodkas. Such great flavors on everything we ate and reminded me of eating at my German grandmas house.
Another thing that annoyed me, server wearing face mask in the middle of a hot summer. Who wants to be reminded of those COVID times?!. fān Portlandersā¦.
I recently visited Kachka in Portland and was blown away by the authentic Russian cuisine. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with a bustling open kitchen and colorful decor. The service was excellent, with the waitstaff being knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us through the menu.
The food was absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of traditional dishes to choose from. Iāve been here twice and have almost tried out the entire menu and not a single dish has been disappointing. The drinks menu was also impressive, with a great selection of vodka and infused vodka options.
Overall, I had an amazing experience at Kachka and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time, and I can't wait to go back and try more of their fantastic food.
Kachka offers an incredible experience from start to end. You can just ask the servers and theyāll let you know which plates are the best but to be honest, this is my 3rd time going there and we have never had a bad plate. Everything is delicious! You gotta try the sour cherry dumplings!!! SO SO SO GOOD! If you get there before 6pm youāll enjoy the happy hour menu which have a good variety of food.
Unreal. All-around one of the better dining experiences Iāve had in a while - with one minor regret. Read on.
Atmosphere
Elegant, but not stuffy. Romantic, so itās a great place to bring a date or significant other. You can hear chatter from other people at Kachka, but itās never too loud to have a conversation at your table.
Service
Servers are professional and knowledgeable. We got nudged to place our entire order at once instead of piecemeal, which is understandable.
Drinks
The infused vodka is a must. I got the cacao bean one and my lovely girlfriend got the Earl Grey one. Both amazing.
Food
Where do I start? We had the Baltic Sprat Buderbrodi, which was a nicely textured starter. Next was my favorite: the brindza pashtet, which is uzbek bread with soft sheep cheese spread. The bread was so soft, warm, and pillowy. From there, the Siberian Pelmeni was perfectly flavorful (my second favorite dish). Before the main came my least favorite, the cabbage schnitzel. It wasnāt much cabbage and didnāt taste that unique to me. Finally, the main, rabbit in a clay pot. The rabbit was so tender and flavorful, and potato pancakes were crisped to perfection. Even if you donāt normally have rabbit, this is such a treat.
Dessert
The fenugreek plombir sundae, these squares of ice cream that had an amazing sauce on them. They were just sweet enough. The right way to end the meal.
Recommend?
Absolutely. This seems like very authentic Russian cuisine and Iāll go back whenever Iām in Portland.
Our first ever Russian dinner experience and we loved every bit of it. The dinner was delicious and the service was extraordinary. We havenāt stopped thinking of the Herring dip and sour cherry dumplings š
Seen this place on food network and the history behind it made me want to check it out while I was in town. The Staff was absolutely amazing and the food was just as great. I highly recommend
Wow! This was a wonderful experience. Love the atmosphere and decor. The Moscow mule is delicious but didn't come in a copper mug. For a non alcoholic option, their pomegranate soda is a tangy delight. There are lots of vegetarian options available. I'd recommend the cabbage schnitzel. But if you eat meat, you must try the Golubtsi, traditional cabbage rolls in a sweet and sour sauce. Yum! Don't forget dessert. We decided to try the Fenugreek Plombir Sundae pictured here. The ice cream comes in small blocks that not too sweet and a different dryer texture with wonderful crunchy toppings. It was a standout dessert that is not your typical sundae, a must try and big enough to share. The only complaint that we had was the temperature of the restaurant. It was so cold that was a bit uncomfortable.
Fun ambiance; great for meeting up with friends. We enjoyed the herring and sour cabbage entree the most.
